Portege M400: Why am I not asked a password at startup?
Hello
I have a Portege M400 and I used the Toshiba security software help put in place a the BIOS boot password, but also a protection of HARD drive password. This software, as well as the true BIOS (Esc + F1 at startup) show that the password I set is recorded or recognized.
However, I'm not really asked any of these passwords when I start the computer.
I have a system to dual-boot with the original WinXP for Tablet PC on one of the partitions and one Feisty Ubuntu on another. My boot loader is GRUB, but I do not understand why this should affect the behavior of the BIOS which should arrive before calling the bootstrapper...
Can someone help me with this? It would be really important for me to protect my BIOS and the hard drive.
Thanks in advance,
dsokus
1. check your security settings with password for Toshiba utility. Are these these configured correctly?
2 you have the user or supervisor password? If you only set the supervisor password that you are not prompted for the password.
3. try to put the HDD and user pw in the initial bios setup (press ESC when prowering on).

Hello
Eventually the partitions that appear on the HARD disk is corrupted.
I couldn't install the OS on my laptop because the partitions have been confues up, I don t know why, but I couldn't format the HARD drive using the recovery disk. Finally, I took the Windows XP disc and formatted the whole HARD drive and deleted all partitions on the HARD drive. Then I installed Windows XP by using the Microsoft disk.
After that, I made the recovery disc and installed the operating system using the Toshiba disc.
Then, it was possible to reinstall the OS.Notes; The M400 seems supported RAID and therefore, you need to install the RAID driver first!

Portege M400: Windows XP does not recognize the 160 GB HARD drive
Hello
I have a Toshiba Portege M400 with Windows XP Tablet Edition. Now, I bought a new 160 GB drive. This disk can be recognized within the location Phase Installation of XP. Do I need a new driver?
Best regards
Karl Weber
Hello
You have to install and include the Portege M400 RAID drivers.
It's a bit confusing because little protégé M400 does not support 2 HARD drive, but the RAID driver is required. Please check the Toshiba European page and download the RAID driver. During the installation of XP her you have to press the F6 key to include the driver from an external USB FDD drive.
After you have included the don t RAID driver format HARD drive because this will lead to the driver losing.
Best regards

- I created a standard account for one of my children. He installed a program that refused him permission to run. I went to "run as administrator" and should be asked for a username and password to allow him to use the program. Instead he gave me the same error message access denied.
- I then tried to implement other programs on his desk to run as administrator and they opened, but they ask me password. Why not invite me for a username and passoword?
But the my administrator account has a password!
Log in as administrator, and then set a new non-empty password. Now, repeat the test under your son's account.

Windows 8 will not ask for password on wake up from sleep
My Dell laptop since the upgrade to windows 8 Windows 7, when I close my lid does not go to sleep, or when I wake to sleep, it does not ask me for a password, everything has been reset to the default values, but I don't know why it doesn't work. someone please help!
The solution, as someone else has asked this question also and got the correct answer - see http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-performance/password-after-sleep/8ef46143-300e-41e8-aafb-b61782b67145 . There is a new setting of Windows 8 on top normal settings in the power settings.
Be aware that setting how long time should pass before asking to specify a password is required is a per-user setting, so if you need to change the default value of 15 minutes, it takes to each user created on the system.
For me, I took me 1 minute rather than always for all users, as it is pleasant, if after an accidental sleep, a user can always resume immediately. But the foregoing I have a password.

Apple Watch does not ask for password
In recent days, I discovered something disturbing. If I take off my Apple Watch and put back on without having to type in the code 4 digit, even after an extra charge per night, it will not ask for a password after an hour or two and works normally. If it's supposed to happen? I couldn't find anything in the support forums.
I got my setup shows to use a password because I got it last December.
Suzanne
Hi Suzanne
If you use the following settings:
-On your iPhone, in the application of Eve, go to: My Watch (tab) > General > detection of wrist - on.
-On your iPhone, in the application of Eve, go to: Watch My > password > enabled.
-Also on screen settings of password - unlock with iPhone turned on.
Then, after putting on your wrist, your watch will unlock after whatever you do first: unlock your watch manually (by entering the access code) or unlock your iPhone.
Then, it will remain unlocked (including when the screen is idle) until you remove it from your wrist. When you remove your watch, it locks automatically.

Stor.E Slim 1 TB does not ask for password
So I put a password on this disc using the supplied software.
Then I took to use on another PC and it will not ask for a password?Do I have to install the software password on all laptops / PC that I use?
Lock password software is needed to define the password reset / clear the password already set.
If the HARD drive / data on the disk HARD has been already locked, you should always asked a password in case you want to access the protected data.

Windows will not ask for password after disconnection and stop
machine is aspire R13, WIN 10
I set up a password for OS - on the machine, do not use a windows account. After the outside panel and closure, opening the lid takes me straight on the desktop without having to ask for a password. What is a password, if anyone can open the lid and have access to everything?
If instead of disconnecting and leaving the computer to sleep, so he asked a password to wake up - as if an unknown person will have access to the computer to wake up from sleep. How stupid!
Is that the reason for this is that microsoft is forcing me to use a MS account for the connection in order to use my machine?
From another forum, the solution was simple: change the password. Now, he asks a password after disconnection.

Hello
Well, there is nothing to see. I guess the camera asking BIOS password and it of not possible to remove the BIOS password without knowing the old.
If you n t know the password the only way to remove it is to contact the Toshiba service partner in your country. Only the ASP can remove this password. -
Portege M400 - Windows 7 does not see HARD drive
Hi, I have the problem, I am trying to install Windows 7 on my M400, but he didn't see the hard drive.
The hard drive is surly ok, ' couse I tested it in the other netbook, I can see it in the BIOS, but any program installation can not.(I tried both Ubuntu and XP Tablet Edition)
Hi Radzik,
I think that Windows doesn't see the drive HARD due missing RAID drivers Windows needs of these RAID drivers before you can install it because it doesn t contain these drivers for the disk HARD is not recognized. You can download the RAID driver from Toshiba Web site.
You can then create a new installation disc using nLite with drivers or copy the drivers on an external floppy drive. Start Windows XP after you press F6 to load drivers from floppy drive.
Check this box!

Portege M400: screen saver does not work
Hi all
like many of you, I think, I need the screen saver protected by start-up automatically when I let my M400 unattended for some time.
Everything works fine if the bluetooth is introduced to the wide. Otherwise... the screen saver does not start automatically.Site Microsoft learns something about the problems related to (Microsoft mouse) wireless devices that do not allow the screen saver appears.
The proposed solution is to kill a process called PCMsomething, or download an update windows named KBsomething and install it.I actually a bluetooth wireless (non-Microsoft) combined with my PC mouse, but no PCMsomething process is executed and, although my mouse is turned off, the screen saver organizers can't work until I turned off the bluetooth of the M400 too. In addition, windows update does not suggest a KBsomething patch to install (maybe because my mouse is not a Microsoft one?).
Any idea to solve my problem?
Thanks in advance.> when I let my M400 unattended for some time.
For this application, Toshiba has designed the FN + F1 feature to lock your laptop.
When you want to leave your laptop using FN + F1 and lock it.It is a lot easier than this solution with screen saver.

Portege M400 - CD/DVD Drive not accessible, Incorrect function.
Hello
We have 1 machine that shows the above error, and strangely enough, it is only to show this error when you try to play the DVD. CD is reading and fine engraving. The H/W is a carpet * a DVD - RAM UJ-8425. The drive is correctly activated and we have about 100 other machines with exactly the same formatting and set up using XP that do not display this error. I changed the H/W and uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers of devices, but without result.
Anyone has any ideas that can help?
See you soon
Steve
When you get this error message exactly? You get this error message if you're looking for a DVD or watch a movie on DVD?
In your case, I would try to remove the upper and lower filters. Then follow this work around:
(1) run Regedit (start > run > Regedit)
2) go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
(3) in the right pane, delete the "UpperFilters" key and delete the key "LowerFilters".
(4) restart.Good luck!

My function keys on my laptop are all of a sudden does not.
I've never had a problem with them before, but I don't know how to fix them at this stage. When I hit the key function by itself, the green light under the F11 still responds, but it's really the extent of the activity.
I had the laptop for almost a year, and I'm on an XP operating system.Your comments and suggestions are appreciated.
Thank you!
Hello
It would be interesting to know what OS you are using.
But if you are using XP then I recommend reinstalling the common Modules.
This application is on the European driver page.Good bye
