Portege M500 cannot start when the USB ports are loaded

We have a M500 that recently seems to be affected by start-up problems when the USB ports are loaded with things like KB and Wireless Mouse USB external adapter.

When these ports are occupied at the start, all the usual tools seem do not load and the associated icons do not appear in the toolbar at the bottom of the screen. The machine in question XP Professional and has 2 GB of RAM. The machine software is generally updated. Machine seems to start normally when the USB ports are empty.

Once completed a successful boot USB ports can be occupied and the machine will then seem to operate normally.

Any thoughts?

Thank you.

Hello!

In your case, I would do a BIOS update and also the chipset driver.
The two you can find on the Toshiba site. I m not sure but I think you have a model for Canada:
http://www.Toshiba.ca

Have you tested the devices USB on another computer laptop or PC? Maybe the problem is the keyboard and/or the mouse and not the laptop.

Good bye

The mouse works, but external HD/Extarnal card sound/Memory stick causing the laptop to freeze. All the drivers are installed right, they are the most recent and have no trouble with other users.

The devices are all compatible. Service pack 2 is installed, and all the hardware drivers on the toshiba have been updated... again, same problem.
The toshiba is about 2 months old and have had this problem since I got it. First I thought it was the drvers, but I cleared of all (?) other options but the USB ports.

    Hello

Believe me, that's not easy to say what the problem may be. It is important to see if the problem occurs because of hardware or software may be. I recommend you to backup all your data and reinstall the unit using rescue media. On this way the unit will be factory settings and will be clean preinstalled. Test your USB devices and see what happens.

Try to use some standard like USB stick or external HARD disk parts, because in this case, you must not install any drivers please. If you use other devices like USB webcam with own software and drivers, it is possible that something goes wrong, but what. On this path, it is not possible to say.

  • The Device Manager on my Windows box lists a hub USB 3.0 as one of USB controllers. This means that one or more of the USB ports are capable of 3.0?

I recently bought a backup disk says he would run faster is it my 3.0 instead of 2.0 USB ports.

Just try to understand the computer itself, if one of the 8 USB ports on my desktop Dell (Windows 7, 64-bit box) is capable of USB 3.0.

    Hi John,.

The message that Windows gives is Windows telling you put a USB 3.0 device in a USB 2.0 slot and the speeds will be Cap using USB 2.0 footrest.

If you are looking for your system on the website of Glens, it should tell you if one of the USB ports are 3.0 or not.  I think that USB 3.0 is marked with the blue wire around the ports.

  • Portege R830 cannot connect iPhone4S to USB port

    Hello world

I have 5 Portege R830-138 with Win7x64 nine completely updated with the latest drivers and patches.
Yesterday I connected my iPhone4S to the USB port on the right side and everything worked well (iTunes, tie, etc.).

Unfortunately, this (the one on the right side) USB port no longer works for today: iPhone, mouse usb pendrives... nothing, it seems to be dead. The USB port on the left side still works with mouse usb and memories but not with the iPhone.

I thought it was a problem of HW laptop on the right side USB port so I tried with a second Portege.
Same problem: plug the iPhone on the right side, USB port, the USB port is not working.

The same iPhone connected to my MacBook Air works fine.
I wouldn't try with a third Portege, do you have any ideas?

    Thank you
    Valerio

    Hello

The left USB port supports the standard USB 2.0 USB port on the right standard supports USB 3.0.

I don't know if the Apple software supports USB 3.0 m.
According to some information in the internet, USB 3.0 is not supported by Apple

  • e9280t cannot start with the USB 3.0 card (tried several providers) new version of BIOS e9280t necessary

    Hello...

I bought a new e9280t year last on the HP site complete with 9 GB of memory (now 16), Blu-ray/DVD writer & reader, tuner TV digital Hauppauge, ATI Radeon 4850 video card bi-ecrans, etc... Since then, I've added more memory and a Firewire 400/800 3 card. His running Win 7 Pro (sp1) and the BIOS is v5.29.

I bought an external drive to USB 3.0 WD (3 TB) and a StarTech USB 3.0 card (Amazon.com). After installing a USB 3.0 card, the system would be powered on for a second then die and then do it again a few seconds later and the cycle continues until the power cord was pulled. Then, I pulled the USB 2.0 card and tried again only to have the same results. The only cards that remained in the system during the trial was the ATI card and the TV Hauppuage card.

Thinking that the problem was with the USB 3.0 card, I bought another provider (Rocketfish of BestBuy) and installed. The same problem as with the other card USB 3.0, the system does not start.

No software driver or other changes have been made to the system before installation tent (according to the vendor's installation instructions).

Given that all failures occur during the power first sequence and cards have been tried with and without power tied to them, that the problem cannot be fixed with an upgrade of the BIOS for the motherboard of TRUCKEE. I could be wrong, but I'm going on 30 years of experience of material as my framework for this review.

If anyone else has this same problem, it would be good to rally them around and see if HP notice us.

    Thank you

I upgraded my power supply 650w (thermal take) and it all works - USB 3 controller (Koutech Dual Channel SuperSpeed USB 3.0 PCI Express Card (2 x internal) model IO-PEU232) - he also has a SATA power connector, but it works very well with just a power bus.
-also updates card reader (put it in the 2nd DVD Bay): internal Koutech IO-RCM630 Multi-in-1 USB 3.0 SuperSpeed Front Panel card reader with a USB 3.0 Port (3.5 ")

  • Satellite L500 - high-pitched noise when the USB port is in use

I have a Satellite L500-1ZP, aged from 1 month. When I connect a usb key or other device in my usb port, the laptop generates a high-pitched noise.
The sound is not strong, strong but enough to irritate me.
When I disconnect a device, the sound disappears.
The sound is also there when I disconnect my laptop to the grid form.

This is a common problem and can it be resolved?

To be honest I don't think that this is a common problem. Is that what you found more threads with the same description of problem?
The same happens when you use the available USB ports?
You can locate where this noise is coming from? Maybe the speakers?

    Any advice?

    Thank you much in advance.

    Hello

During the POST (power on self-test) all parts laptop as RAM, motherboard (also of connected devices) is enabled.
If a problem (compatibility problems, etc.) would be detected during POST, then the laptop would not initialize correctly.

This mouse nano-receiver is unknown to me and I m not very well what s wrong with this unit, but I doubt that this problem is related to the laptop.
I guess that the laptop starts properly with other devices connected to the laptop. right? Well well, in such cases, there s no question cell phone but the 3rd unit affect the functionality of the laptop.

However, if you turn the printer off and turn the laptop it starts up fine!

  • Satellite 1800-100 - cannot start when the cable is plugged

    Hello!
My Satellite 1800-100 now only lights up when the power cable is plugged.

It allows me to recharge the battery well when the laptop is turned off. And if I can use it only on the power of the battery which is not used for a long time - about half an hour just as much.
What do you think is the problem? The battery or the AC/transformer cable?

    Thank you for your help.
    Kind regards
    Irina

I m not sure but I think it is a problem of the motherboard.
I had the same problem 4 years or more (I dunno m) on another laptop. The repairman replaced the motherboard and the problem was solved.

So you can look on eBay for a second hand motherboard for Exchange it.

    HP Pavilion e 9280 t running windows 7 64 bit

All your USB ports should be 2.0, unless you have a USB 3.0 add-on card. Your card motherboard page shows 4 USB 2.0 ports on the back and 6 x 2.0 internal headers on motherboard where front USB ports and card reader are usually plugged.

I use a Portege R930 with the 2nd lowest brightness. I noticed that when something bright is displayed, the overall screen brightness adjusted upwards by about 5 tiny slices to speed increment of 1 / second.

Increments of brightness are not nearly as pronounced as the steps in the brightness slider, but it's there. And very annoying.

    Hello

I put t know if your laptop was equipped with the graphics card AMD but the problem, you take it all sounds a bit like a future provided by AMD GPU called: AMD vari-bright.
Vari-bright save energy consumption by optimising contrast image on the internal LCD screen AMD computers.

This feature can be used if the computer is running in battery mode, using the internal LCD only or PowerPlay settings under mode battery is set to maximize autonomy.

The Vari-Bright feature can be turned on and off in CCC.
