Portege R100 and HDD upgrade

Hello

I have a Portege R100 and I want to upgrade the 40 GB HARD disk. What is the highest size that I could upgrade using Toshiba or not Toshiba HDD?
There are 1.8 "SSD? What would be the best way to update?

Thank you
Romeo

I have an old Portege 2000 and it's almost the same specifications your one, but my has been delivered with 20 GB of HARD drive. I've updated it with 60 GB and it works perfectly.
I can understand your wishes on the HARD drive upgrade, but I recommend you to be a little more realistic and spend it is logical and understandable for this older model laptop.

So I can confirm that 60 GB HARD drive will be working well. Maybe you can use the HARD disk with more capacity, but Toshiba is now your Portege with 40 GB max. What you can do is to contact the nearest Toshiba authorized maintainer and ask them if they have more experiences with the hardware upgrade on this laptop.

To be honest, this laptop is not designed for multimedia stuff and in fact 60 GB HARD drive is quite enough for the installation of applications and for the registration of all the important things like maybe a few videos, photos and office documents.

What you want to do with this laptop?

    I think to put in a larger capacity internal hard drive - 40G is now a little bit :(

    Does anyone do this? The traps? Any suggestions on compatible drives?

    TIA

    Hello

    As far as I know the old Portege R100 supported a HDD IDE controller.
    So you will definitely need an IDE HDD. I think that it s a 1.8 IDE HDD.

    I think the HDD IDE controller supports only the 28-bit LBA and it would mean that there would be larger than 120 GB hard drives not recognized.

    That's why I choose smaller hard drives.

  • Portege R100 and Linux - function keys not working do not and the latest version of the BIOS?

    Hello world

    I have a Portege R100 (PPR10L-13G10P). I am trying to install Linux and when you try to access function keys (F6) the computer does not allow me to... no idea why?

    Also, what is the latest version of BIOS for this computer? And where it can be downloaded?

    Thanks in advance!

    Terrence

    Hello

    At first, I must say that Toshiba doesn't support Linux in general if you are alone with this problem.
    I hope that someone will be able to help you a bit.
    If you want to discover the latest version of the BIOS, just enter the BIOS settings and check it out.
    BIOS version latest won't help you at all, so my opinion is that you shouldn't change anything.

    Anyway, the bio download page is - http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_bios.jsp

    The feature keys F is supported by special tool Windows and it only works on Windows.

  • Portege R100 and RIPREP

    Hello

    I'm having a problem with RIS and my laptop Toshiba Portege R100. When I try to extract an image from the notebook using riprep, it keeps failing. This happens even with a vanilla XP installation. All other my laptop works very well except this model.

    I noticed that since the file riprep.sif the last lines are missing from the torn picture failure. A successful image should look like this:

    [OSChooser]
    Description = "test image - Toshiba R100"
    Help =' '
    LaunchFile ="%INSTALLPATH%\%MACHINETYPE%\templates\startrom.c omĀ»
    ImageType = SYSPREP
    Version = "5.1 (2600) '"
    SysPrepSystemRoot = "Mirror1\UserData\WINDOWS".
    HalName = halacpi.dll
    ProductType = 0

    An image failed would replace the last few lines with the following information:

    [OSChooser]
    Description = "Windows Professional.
    Help = "this will install Windows Professional in a standard configuration.
    LaunchFile = "%INSTALLPATH%\%MACHINETYPE%\templates\startrom.co m '.
    ImageType = "Flat".

    I also checked the riprep.log file to see if there was no problem there. There are some services that were not arrested before the images were torn off. However, these services also appear in other newspapers of riprep files other images which have succeeded. I also stopped these services before starting the imaging process, but the problem persists.

    I rip an image successfully just now. I showed a colleague what happens when I tried using riprep, and it worked. I was pretty stripped, but this was the first and last time.

    I should also mention that the configuration of the network is DHCP statistics. I also tried to give a static IP address.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    If you need further information do not hesitate to contact me.

  • Portege R100 and software Cyberlink

    Hi people.

    I tried to use the Cyberlink PowerDVD software that should have come preinstalled on this laptop, but it does not appear to be installed. Where can I download a copy from this laptop?

    Also, is there a way to save the machine that I never received any CD / DVD in the machine when it was bought new

    Thank you

    Hi Clive

    Why are you offering this software must be installed on the Portege R100?
    Where did you find this info?

    As much I know as the Cyberlink Power DVD doesn't do not part of the image of Toshiba.
    On several sets of portable Toshiba the WinDVD software was preinstalled and could be used to play DVD movies.
    But I m the Cyberlink Power DVD is not available, and I doubt that the ASP can help you!

    Welcome them

  • Various installation with the Portege R100 and Windows XP issues

    Hello

    I recently bought a used Portege R100. It came without OS and I wanted to install XP SP2.

    I know that restorations only work with PCMCIA readers adapted, but the HARD drive is formatted, so there is no recovery possible I guess.
    Here are my problems:
    -with my very old Freecom PCMCIA CD player the Windows installation CD is recognized, and it starts to load the XP drivers until he wants to start copying files installiation--> then I get the blue screen of Windows with the error 00 x 7 (virus or driver)
    -the same thing happens with my former W2k Pro installation disc.
    -With the even more ancient W98SE, strange things are happening too: installation seems to work fine, but when it comes to start with W98SE, for the first time, the system hangs up with pixelgarbage.
    -Make the 6 Bootdisks with makeboot doesn't work anymore.
    -J' also tried MS-DOS! And guess what! It worked! Loading the Freecom drivers and copy of Windows I386 folder on my hard drive with the volkov Commander (something similar to NortonCommander) worked too! So I got hav files on my drive but after running Windows NT in the i386 folder, the system hangs after some time, when it starts to copy the files to a temporary folder.

    So I tried almost everything I know. at this moment I am download knoppix to try it.

    I ran Memtest86 and 9 Diskmanager to test the RAM and HARD drive, finished two withut errors, so the priority of main parts in the installation process seems to work. Maybe it's that my IDE controller is broken?
    I have no idea, WHY does he not move windows!

    Help is hot!

    Thank you

    Christian
    Does

    It should work out that way, run you own your HD first in Fat32format - file-system, otherwise it won't work!
    Don't forget to use "smartdrive' in your BACK-commissioning, otherwise it will take a lot of time, even the 'freeze' is possible.

  • Problems with RIS, Portege R100 and, possibly, XP SP2

    Hello

    I have a problem with RIS on my Portege R100, when I try to install Windows XP SP2. I have a problem where he complained that I never had a the network driver needed to use RIS, a quick search in the Intel Web site services showed that there was a new. INF file that should be placed in the folder i386 to enable RIS th work. When I start now in PXE/RIS I move forward, but only a little.

    He seems to have all the necessary files until it says: 'the installation program starts Windows', and then display the BSOD.

    It's very frustrating because I have a number of laptops to build.

    If you need more information do not hesitate to ask.

    Martin

    Hello Martin

    If I understand you just talk about installation service remotely. The problem is that Toshiba supports only the OS. BACK is not supported, but you should try to fix this problem yourself. I'm sure that he can somehow work.

    Good luck!

  • Re: Portege R100 boot - HDD ok

    Hello people,

    I hope you can help me with this one. I have a very nice R100, works fine until a few days ago, when he decided not to start over.
    -Light HDD rises, then immediately turns off and the laptotp gets stuck in the "Toshiba" screen
    -can not get into BIOS, looks like it freezes before BIOS could be accessible
    -If I press F12, it gives me the possibility to choose the startup mode (HARD, pxe, PCMCA, floppy drive), so I can move the cursor between the options, but when I hit enter it gets stuck again.
    -HDD is ok, I installed it on an another R100 and works perfectly
    -tried to start using Windows server from another computer, but it cannot work cause when I hit F12 and select pxe stuck yet (as I said before).

    Any idea?

    Thanks for the help

    Hello

    you see, it's not easy to say what is happening on your computer. Perhaps, it is overheating, failure or hardware Bios issue... Have you tried to clean the computer with compressed air? Overheating can cause the system to halt or freeze. Is there only one connected external usb devices? Have you tried to do the BIOS with the external keyboard, it stuck? the Bios may also the cause of the problem, had to be reflashed.
    Have you paid attention to something wrong with your computer before the problem occurred? in most of the cases. the problem is not itself appear but follow after certain circumstances.
    Sorry, I'm asking too many questions, but to understand the problem needs more information.

  • Portege R100 and WUXGA(1920x1200) external LCD display

    I bought Dell 24 inch wide LCD display.

    I thought that my portege R100 can support the resolution 1920 x 1200 because its maximum resolution is 2048 x 1536, but it's not. TT

    Graphics chip is trident cyber xp4.

    I already tried to use software PowerStrip, but it did not work for the chipset graphic trident.

    Is it possible that I can use the resolution of WUXGA(1920x1200) using my portege R100 as regestry change or what ever?

    Hello

    I found the info that 1600 x 1200 is a resolution supported max for Portege R100. As much as I know there no way to change this through any changes to the registry. As you know the performance of the graphics card can not be changed.

    Good bye

  • Portege R100 and external 17 '' LCD - cannot set the resolution of the screen to the right

    A 17 "LCD is connected to my Portege R100 via the port replicator. The native resolution is 1280 x 1024. But the actual resolution is only 1024 x 768. The LCD screen can adjust images automatically. Actual resolution can be verified by LCD menu. This distorted text on external LCD.

    I put the exteranl LCD resolution at 1280 x 1024 on panel--> display--> setting...
    The version of the video driver is v6.4823 - 104.22_2. BIOS, common module, Toshiba screen device Cahange the Toshiba Hotkey utility for display were all updated to the latest version.

    I used Fn + F5 combination to switch between display modes: Simoutaneous, external monitor only. This has not fixed the problem.

    Someone has an idea?

    Thank you very much in advance.

    Hello

    The preferred resolution is not available on the external screen because the display driver that is installed on the laptop does not support!
    The external monitor is able to manage the 1280 x 1024, but if this resolution is not listed in the display driver, then you will not be able to choose!

  • Portege R100 and Windows 7

    Hello

    I have a portege R100, which, with the new 1 GB memory is very good. I want to update from XP to Win7.
    All the world does? Any suggestion? Win 7 slow down the system?

    Richy

    If I undestand you, you have only 1 GB of memory? If you do, I'm sorry, but your system would be slow as hell. 2 GB is a minimum in my opinion.

  • Portege R700 - 15U HDD upgrade to SSD using recovery media

    Hello

    The installed HARD disk was 320, he developed surface errors.

    I decided that I would upgrade to an SSD. I got a 64 GB m4.

    I swapped the drives and booted from the recovery DVD. He gave an installation option. Selected, then it opens a command prompt where it starts to partition the drive, everything ok, until it copies the files. It errors with "CRC error or HARD drive.

    It is, with the resumption of Toshiba, there is more than 64 GB? How I choose partition sizes?

    Thank you

    Hey Buddy,

    And now your problem is solved or how to understand your second assignment?

    Is that recovery disk can also restore the factory settings on another SSD or HARD disk. There is no problem and 64 GB should be enough.

    These CRC errors could be linked to the SSD itself have you looked for an update of the firmware on the page of manufacturing SSD?
    Have you updated the BIOS?

  • Re: Satellite P300-150 and HDD upgrade

    Hi, my wife Laptop(P300-150) has developed a tick unit HDD1 - I would like to replace this 250 GB drive with other, larger capacity HARD drive. So my question is twofold

    (1) what is the maximum size of disk HARD of this laptop can tolerate? -500 GB?
    (2) does it matter if I buy a SATA - II - when the original disc in a SATA drive?

    Thanks in advance
    IMM

    Unfortunately there is no document where you can find this info on the maximum capacity of the HARD drive that can be used with the Satellite P300 but I m 100% sure you can use 500 GB on Satellite P300.

    I don't know if your laptop has a SATA II controller but, as far as I know, SATA II is backward compatible and I think you can use it on your laptop, but it runs with SATA that access speed.

    Upgrade disk SATA I HARD and you will be happy with it.

  • Portege R100: FDISK and format HDD takes a long time

    I have a Portege R100 and when I tried executing FDISK it will take a lot of time to create a DOS partition.

    After executing FDISK, I tried to FORMAT the HD and takes more than 6 hours to format the hard drive.
    After Format, I tried to load Win XP but it hanged system with loading messages files...

    Could someone hep me

    Hello

    Why you do not restore CD to create new partitions? It can be done very quickly. This option is available in the installation in Expert mode.

    Time FDISK is long gone. :)
