PORTEGE R100 CD-ROM recovery problem
Hi, I had a few problems of recovery PORTEGE R100. My problem is that when I try to reinstall the system with the recovery of the boot disk CD, it does not recognize the CD. The CD-ROM is not a TOSHIBA product. Is there any solution for this?
Hello
It will be interesting to know if your external CD is a USB or PCMCIA device.
You must make a Windows startup disk and add drivers for your CD-ROM BACK drive and then you should be able to recover the machine with this CD.

My old portege r100 doesn't quite work.
I tried using the recovery CD product, but during the resumption of the process the following message apears:
Drive partitioning error!What it means?
What can I do to overcome? Thanks in advance

Hello
It seems that HDD might not be partitioned correctly.
Perhaps the HARD drive is not ok?Check if the HARD drive is recognized and listed in the BIOS.
If the HARD drive is not listed, then the HARD drive is dead and must be replaced. If the HARD disk is listed, then there might be a problem with the HARD drive partition table
You could test the HARD drive by using a tool called Drive Fitness Test. You can also try to format the HARD drive first. You could fix this HARD drive on another computer by using a USB HDD controller. This allows you to access the HARD disk and format this drive

Portege R100 - CD-Rom drive not Bootable
Could someone help please? I recently followed a number of discussions on this forum in order to get my R100 to life.
I have quick recovery discs.

I also have a USB CD Rom / DVD is not recognized. (MY - link - 5060183570214). Clearly, I don't have the right drivers.
I got drivers for the said CD-Rom / DVD but looks only for Panasonic/IBM.I want to know is how I can get the CD/DVD drive recognized while booting from the diskette. What files should I change and which edition is required?

Portege R100 - burn my own recovery CD
Hello
I tried to reinstall Windows on my Portege R100 for weeks and finally discoveredhttp://support.toshiba-tro.de/KB0/TSB5100S70004R01.htm
It is said that if you have a CD player of UBS by Toshiba or something equivalent and appropriate recovery CD, you can boot from the recovery CD to reinstall Windows.
But I have the recovery CD is not that one "appropriate". In this case, the above document suggests to download the bootimage for floppy drive, then"you can make your own CD for recovery bootable directly with this bootimage, if extract you it and use as (1, 44MB) floppy emulation in your Favorites, engraving software and combine it with data from the original CD."
Can someone explain what this means? Once you unzip the bootimage file attached to the document, you will get a .exe file, which, when you click on, trying to put a bootable diskette. How can I use this .exe file to create a bootable CD?
Thanks in advance.MJ
Hello
On this Toshiba document described how you can preinstall your Portege R100 using original recovery (already delivered) media. As you can see you can use Toshiba external drives listed there and on this installation path is very easy because the designed Toshiba recovery image already contains the necessary driver for Toshiba external drives.
If you n t have Toshiba drives but start other USB drives, you can retrieve the device using Toshiba drive.
There is nothing on your recovery media burning on this document. As far as I know, you can do so by using some applications like Norton Ghost (I use it) and if you have an external hard drive. Application of Norton Ghost to make the recovery image on the HARD drive directly (I prefer this option and save the image on the D partition) or burn it to CD/DVD bootable.

Windows XP Setup stops with "Stop 0x0000007B" on Portege R100
I have a Portege R111, but it is the same model as R100. I am trying to install WinXp on it, with a lot of problems.
I have no CD to recover, but as I've read, it's possible.I use a PCMCIA-cd/dvd player. It starts fine, but after I get a blue screen with the error "* Stop 0x0000007B."
On the microsoft home page, I've read a lot about this
[http://support.microsoft.com/kb/324103/en]It seems that it is a problem with my hd, so I disassembled the 1.8 "HD and connected to my normal pc. Here, I could install WinXP without any problem.
Then I reassembled the hd (with the top winxp system), but guess what, it doesn't. I just get get the menu in what mode I want to boot into windows (safe mode, safe mode with network,...). Whatever mode I select screen freezes after.I tried to run a normal linux (ram only) on it to see if that works. But it's not. The screen freezes while trying to load the kernel modules.
Any ideas on how to solve this problem?
Hi guys
Portege R100 supports the recovery through the BIOS (by pressing 'C') with (16-bit and Cardbus) PCMCIA cards.
Sequence of disks and controllers (PCMCIA) might work:
(a) Toshiba, PX1055E-1NST SN: 3431490096 with PC Card (16 bit), II cable, PCMCIA, Rev.043.242
(b) Toshiba, PX1055E-1NST with a CardBus, cable II, CARD BUS, Rev.136The drive used in conjunction with the PCMCIA controller is not so important due to the fact that the driver in the BIOS must allow the controller first. There is a generic CD-ROM drive implemented in the BIOS for the connected player. The "PC Card controller Mode" settings in the BIOS has been 'Automatic Selection '.
This means that you have nothing to change in the BIOS, because it is the default value. It could happen, to connect the power supply in certain circumstances, for example:
Battery is charged too less.
The PCMCIA supplies unless energy location.
If a player is used with a built in battery, please always connect an appropriate adapter. -
Reload Windows XP on Portege R100
I have a R100, who does not start in Windows (XP) - gets etc. secure mode/last good on-screen, then dies. I was going to try to repair the Windows installation using a XP normal drive, rather than a full recovery of the product, as the back-ups have been exceeded, of course, and I need some files.
Another problem, my external PC card drive of Toshiba (PA3246) seems to be dead - power light turns on, but door will not open and not recognized on any PC. It seems impossible to get a Toshiba PC card disk now, only USB.
So, questions:
(1) what is the probability to repair the Windows installation, as opposed to the full recovery of the product?
(2) any thoughts on a failed external drive?
(3) would be a R100 boot from a Windows CD via a USB connection, or no one knows source of suitable PC card reader (already tried ebay etc.)?Any help at all welcomed.
Hello
I see you have a lot of Guy question ;) I will try to provide the best answers and proposals of solution :)
Then on the point:
1. I don't see any other chances of recovering all of the operating system.
If you need some files, you could first remove the HARD drive and it could connect to another computer via the external USB HDD controller.2. If the external PC card reader is dead, it will take a new :( Sorry, but I don't see any other possibilities for a fix.
Perhaps that the guarantee is valid and you will get a new one for free3. If you want more details on the R100 and boot USB please check this:

Portege R100, PXE - boot problem - E61:Media Test failure, check cable
My portege r100 4004GAH original hard drive has had some problems recently, so I decided to replace it with a bigger 4006GAH. Specifications, it seemed that it would be appropriate.
So I tried to install standard windows top. Unfortunately as I soon discovered that didn't work and lead to BSOD. I looked online and remembered that I had in fact to use the recovery of three discs. Fortunately for me I still had the freshly sealed and I've also owned a combined remarkable Targus CD drive supported. If in the three discs are gone. All seemed well and after that the last drive ended, I was asked to remove the disc. The laptop has rebooted and then gave me the
PXE - E61:Media Test failure, check cable
PXE - M0F: Exit Intel PXE ROM
Insert system disk
Press a key to continue...I thought it might be in the order of start, but verified that and it seemed right. HD was first. I also changed the order and the same error came.
I thought while another component of my laptop may be broken. So I put my old hard drive in. It started fine.
The next thought that the new hard drive was defective.Fortunately, this is not the case. Because when I used the recovery disks not only heard disk hard turns to the top, but the hard drives were detected and recovery installation displays the correct memory size.
I'm completely stumped on hat w what is the problem. Any help would be appreciated.
It is not easy to say what the problem is but you said the Portege started fine with the old HDD. So I think that there is something wrong with the new.
In your case I test the HARD drive with a special tool like Drive Fitness Test. Download the CD image, burn it to a CD and boot from it. Then you can test the HARD drive.
On the same site is a user's guide if you want to know more.
http://www.HitachiGST.com/HDD/support/download.htm#DFTIn addition I am interested in what you have the same problem with a Microsoft installation disc if you have one.
So try if your HARD disk has no errors. -
Portege R100 - installation operating system 16-bit bootable CD-Rom PCMCIA
Hi all
I was wondering if one of you boffin can advice on a very frustrating problem I am experiencing.
I'm trying to re - install the recovery CD on a Portege R100, so far without success.
I have learned that I need (ed) a cdrom of 16-bit pcm bootable to do the job - after getting a 16 bit pcm [LG] bootable disk I found that seems not be recognized at startup, choose to boot from the pcm does nothing, it loads just of the HARD drive and I am at a loss on how to move forward.
I talked to Toshiba and Freecom, both advising all 16-bit pcm bootable CD-ROM should do the trick, they confirm that they are no longer manufacturing or selling these devices and both suggest I source one of it like eBay... someone at - it ideas?
Hello
If you start Windows, the drive will be then recognized?
Have you tried to change the boot priority in the BIOS?Good bye

Portege R200 recovery CD recovery problem
I tried to recover with different portege R200 from the recovery disks. The two models are identical, and both models have the same problem. I boot with the recovery disk 1, I get the choice of 1, 2 and 3.
I choose number 1 to retrieve the machine (a recommended) hard disk, and then restarts gives me another set of choices. As soon as I make a choice and confirm it, I get an error message saying that my cd/dvd drive is not connected. The CD/DVD drive is a USB which I've tried two different brands with the same result. All I can think is that I have to do something wrong.
If someone knows what that please let me know.

David TarrHello
I studied a bit in this forum and found this interesting thread:
http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?MessageID=32612罤There is a list of the compatible and tested external CD/DVD drives.
one) Toshiba, PA3352E-SCD2, CD-RW/DVD-Rom USB 2.0 drive
(b) Toshiba PA3402E-1DV2, Rev.501, USB 2.0 DVD Super Multi drive, SN: 5362870112
(c) Toshiba, PX1055E-1NST, (Freecom drive), SN: 3431490096
with a PC Card (16 bit) card, cable II, PCMCIA, Rev.043.242, SN: 18496 043 3999 0343 01093
(d) Toshiba, PX1055E-1NST, (Freecom drive), SN: 3431490096
with a CardBus cable II, MAP of BUS, Rev.136, SN: 16693 136 3999 0149 06122Is that not all external drives are compatible and updated day and in my opinion, this could be the reason why your laptop starts properly since the external hard drive.

Portege R100 - question about the installation of the USB port and Windows problems
Hello
I just bought a used Portege R100, but I have some problems. Of course the laptop isn't a CD or DVD, player so I tried an external DVD drive, but it did not work. What kind of device I have to install Windows (not an edition of recovery or anything like that, but a whole new windows on the formatted HARD drive)?
I also have another problem: whenever I plug a USB device (I tried the DVD drive external and a USB keyboard) when I start the laptop, it seems to hang. At least, I am not able to type anything more; the keyboard of the laptop is dead (the point where the entrance would still be flashing in the BACK platform, but typing. sth on the keyboard isn't doing anything). It is not normal, is it?
I also tried to get to the BIOS, but I tried various commands (F1 to F12, DEL etc.), but I couldn't access the BIOS. It would be great if someone could tell me the command for it.
Thanks in advance for the help and sorry for the bad English, I'm not a native speaker :)
The forum has a search function, but to help you look still these 2 wires:
http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=19232
http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=23921Here you can see that XP installation isn't very easy, but can be done successfully
as long as you are working in an environment with appropriate back-drivers back, you can use any kind of external (USB or pcmcia) CD player you want
the bios is accessible by pressing ESC and the Start button

Portege R100 - recovery CD lost
Hi... There's a year ago, I had installed a vista transformation pack on my portege r100, but when I uninstalled it, I was still left with icons and displays pop-up ads and other stuff from the Pack... Also, I've lost some features like system restore lately... all this has added to my frustration and I need to reinstall windows XP pro again... But I lost the CD of toshiba recovery... I have a separate bootable XP installation CD although and want to install on my portege
I have a few questions:
1. I have an external USB CD RW/DVD Rom Combo from Toshiba. Do I need any other than a bootable XP Pro installation CD?
2. can I use the serial number of the COA under my portege?
3. can I use the recovery CD to my friend toshiba instead?I would appreciate any kind of help on your part, thank you.

You usually have a compatible CD/DVD of PCMCIA drive in order to boot from a floppy disk for Win XP.
But I met some people here in the forum who have tried to reinstall Win XP without using a CD/DVD drive.
Check these discussions:
http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=19232
http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums//thread.jspa?MessageID=155632> 2. Can I use the serial number of the COA under my portege?
I doubt that this serial number work in relationship with other Windows operating systems. This serial key belongs to the Win operating system on the recovery disk. It s version an OEM and cannot be used with the other Win XP.> 3. Can I use the recovery CD from Toshiba to my friend?
You must use the recovery disk that was specially designed for the Portege R100. If your friend is the owner of the Portege R100 even then the recovery disk should work on your Portege R100.
The point is that the recovery disc contains drivers, tools and other software that has been developed only for some notebook series. If you want to use the recovery disk that does not contain drivers for Portege R100 then you could damage it the hardware or an error...Greetings

Dear friends,
I have a problem with my newly purchased Portege R100. When I try to switch (or in hibernation mode, in fact), it starts the process and then stops and displays an error message saying that it is in conflict with the keyboard player and I might need to update this.
Of course when I try to update, it shows not any update for the keyboard drivers.
I was wondering if anyone has experienced the same problem and how you solved it.Thank you
RiccardoHi Riccardo
As far as I know, this problem may occur if you use the external keyboard because for now what laptop enters standby or hibernation to stop all active processes. Now there may be some conflicts because many programs or processes can make the problems by putting off circuit.
The external keyboard?
