Portege R100 freezes - CPU fan is defective?

I ' v was Portege R100s for a long time, maybe 7 years old, I am at my last one.

I'll be back from it after eating and the XP screen froze, no mouse movement, CntrlAltDel did nothing. Press and hold the power button it stopped.

Now I can start, but it freezes again in a very short time, a few minutes. I'm guessing that the processor fan is stopped.
Not tht sounds good to people, it's a realistic possibility to cannibalize the carcass of my previous and hang the fan of my current group?

Thank you

Of course, it could be linked to the question of the CPU.
If the CPU wouldn't be cooled correctly then the system can stop to answer.

Are you sure that the fan has stopped working?
If yes then the cooling module must be checked and replaced by the compatible.
You may not use the cooling modules. It should be compatible.

But to be honest, I think that the RAM modules need to be checked also
In most cases, a RAM problem is more realistic as a defective cooling module

My old laptop has stopped working because one of the RAM slot is faulty
I delete a module and the laptop worked using a single module of RAM
However, I couldn't use it as I wanted and I bought the new notebook.

  • Portege R700 - high CPU fan noise

    Hello

I own the Canadian version of the Portege R700, called Tecra R700 (PT319C-00E002).
The CPU fan always runs between 43 percent and 51 percent (regardless of the mode of selected frequency), which makes the noisy computer - too noisy to be used comfortably, too noisy to be used at meetings of air-conditioned silent.

The fan seems to be controlled by the BIOS, as well as applications such as SpeedFan are unnecessary. Is there a way to fix this?

    Kind regards.

    Hi dernierrecours,

    > CPU fan always running between 43 percent and 51 percent (regardless of the selected frequency mode)
This means that the fan runs always at the same level regardless cooling method that you can choose in Windows power management?

Well, have you tried updating the BIOS? The latest version is installed?

  • Portege R100: fan and screen

My portege r100 fan no longer works and I wonder to the service change only the fan or the mainboard... and my screen has 24 dead pixels color do that I have to do
    Kind regards

    Hi Murat,

From my experience, repairers will be the fastest option for them and not the cheapest for you. If your fan can be replaced easily without changing the motherboard, then it is what they will do.

In regards to your dead pixels, the only real solution is to replace the screen.

I think that it is a job more suited to a Service Agent

  • Portege R100 - CPU usage 100%

    Hello!

    Everyone knows about this problem?
My Portege R100 after installing the new copy of Windows XP and directly after the installation of the display driver, Trident (reboot) bizarre behavior.

Welcome screen goes white on the lower part (when the first yellow line is). Then I have some software problems.

When to start records search engine, when I update the list of wireless networks and I explore the files by clicking on 'My computer', (this does not happen when I right click on START and 'Explore') displays CPU usage 100% and everything is so slow that I can barely move a cursor.

Everything goes back to normal once I closed above applications.
I can install all drivers and all right, but after Trident display it is bad.

This is the driver I use since I bought the laptop, I do not know that is fine.
I installed it several times before and I have a few copies of it, which I've already tried so it must be good.

The cross thing only my mind is a hardware failure.
Someone of you knows than before?

    Thank you...

It has nothing to do with your computer - this is the trident driver problem - there is a work - around
    Try changing your display configuration-

    (1) right click on your mouse to the desktop to bring up the display property, and then click Advanced - here, you will see a tab say somethng like 'graphic acceleration.
    (2) reduce the rate of acceleration - move the tab to the left - make sure it is not full
    (3) this trident driver can cause the BONE to redraw the screen whenever you move your mouse with some applications

If my post is not detail for you
Try google with the keyword "how to turn off the graphics acceleration in windows xp" - you will get some good instructions

    That will solve your problem!

Good luck and enjoy your nice laptop!

  • Portege R100 - defective headphone jack

Headphone 3.5 mm on my R100 hole seems to be defective (I tried it with another helmet and with them the sound is distorted unless I managed to get the plug in the right position).

I will provide Toshiba on this subject shortly, but I was just wondering if anyone could tell me if this component replacement is a simple procedure?

    Thank you very much.

    Hi Dan,.

The headphone jack is a pretty basic device that can usually be bought quite cheaply from most electrical spare outlets. The real problem is to find a repairman that will repair to the component level. Nowadays, the trend is to replace a whole PCB rather than simply weld on a new component.

According your description of the problem as it sounds as if we spring metal tags is either loose or bent and therefore does not sufficiently wityh contact the helmet when it is inserted.

If your laptop is still under warranty, then it should be replaced at no charge.

If your warranty has expired, it may be useful to check for repairers of local PC that quote ' component-level) repair services.

    Good luck

  • Portege R100 - Random Blue Screen of Death (IRQL not less or equivalent)

    Hello

I've been making 'Blue Screen of Death' screens random in the last few weeks. The error is "IRQL not less or equal ' and it performs a memory dump each time. If I get the error and try to restart the phone after, I usually get the same screen of "Blue Screen of Death" when starting.

I have not installed new hardware lately. Last update about a year; upgrade memory. I tried to replace the RAM with a spare that I had and I was still getting the same error.
I have not installed new software in the last weeks, which would coincide with this error.

I am tracking the temperature of the processor and I'm higher than 48 degrees Celsius.
I'm not an expert, but I guess it's purely a hardware problem? As I rarely hear the CPU fan, I thought it might be overheating of the CPU.

But even after that make the CPU fan to operate at 100% using a free software called "Fan speed" I always got the same random screen of 'Blue Screen of Death'.

I would really appreciate any feedback and assistance. Really, I love my R100 and want to fix it.

    Select this option.

    Hey,.

    > If it's the memory controller can it be replaced?
No, you can only replace the motherboard together. The memory controller is a part of it and it of not possible to replace the memory controller only.

Theoretically, it could be the motherboard (memory controller) to malfunction if Memtest86 errors even you have replaced the RAM already.

But 100% sure answer you can get a service provider approved because they have professional diagnostic tools.
Then get in touch with the guy and ask for help. They can also order a new card of mother if she needs to be replaced.

  • Touchpad does not work on Portege R100

    Hello

I have recently boght a Toshiba Portege R100 without any installation CD Windows XP Home Edition worked fine but the touchpad is not.

I installed additional drivers of Toshiba. Now, I'm able to adapt to all kinds of things about the Touchpad, but still it does not work. I was also running Knoppix 5.2 since July 2007. Same problem with Linux.

Have I not a faulty laptop? How will I know, please?

Have you tested the touchpad with Windows XP?
You connected an external USB mouse and you have the same problem?

Normally the touchpad should work without a driver, they are part of the operating system.
You can disable/enable it with FN + F9.
I'm not sure, but you can also enable/disable the touchpad in the BIOS.

It could be that the touchpad is defective, but ask an ASP for help. They can check the necessary parts for laptop and Exchange.

  • Portege R100, PXE - boot problem - E61:Media Test failure, check cable

My portege r100 4004GAH original hard drive has had some problems recently, so I decided to replace it with a bigger 4006GAH. Specifications, it seemed that it would be appropriate.

So I tried to install standard windows top. Unfortunately as I soon discovered that didn't work and lead to BSOD. I looked online and remembered that I had in fact to use the recovery of three discs. Fortunately for me I still had the freshly sealed and I've also owned a combined remarkable Targus CD drive supported. If in the three discs are gone. All seemed well and after that the last drive ended, I was asked to remove the disc. The laptop has rebooted and then gave me the

PXE - E61:Media Test failure, check cable
PXE - M0F: Exit Intel PXE ROM
    Insert system disk
    Press a key to continue...

I thought it might be in the order of start, but verified that and it seemed right. HD was first. I also changed the order and the same error came.
I thought while another component of my laptop may be broken. So I put my old hard drive in. It started fine.
The next thought that the new hard drive was defective.

Fortunately, this is not the case. Because when I used the recovery disks not only heard disk hard turns to the top, but the hard drives were detected and recovery installation displays the correct memory size.

I'm completely stumped on hat w what is the problem. Any help would be appreciated.

It is not easy to say what the problem is but you said the Portege started fine with the old HDD. So I think that there is something wrong with the new.

In your case I test the HARD drive with a special tool like Drive Fitness Test. Download the CD image, burn it to a CD and boot from it. Then you can test the HARD drive.

  • Portege R100 install XP on the replacement drive

    Help, please

My hard drive in my R100 went bad and I replaced it and it became a nightmare to install XP.

I spent 2 days on this subject, and I can't break! I have the original Toshiba USB floppy drive that can be accessed by cell phone and a desktop USB external CD/DVD drive mounted in a USB chassis. It's the Sony DRU - 540A. I tried everything on this forum and it does not work.

I copied the I386 folder in the C: / once I'd fdisk and formatted it and when windows was running from the CD it came to try to find the asms file. When I run the Portege R100 Recovery Bootdisk V1.1.zip he can see my Cd/DVD drive however the virtual D: it creates, causing the PC to freeze when I run Windows NT.

Please help because it's pretty darn painful!

    Thanks Brendan

Why would you copy the files from the CD to your HARD drive? To install an operating system, in your case Windows XP just boot from the CD and follow the instructions given by the installation routine.

You can change the priority of booting into the BIOS settings, or by pressing the C key laptop start upward.

  • Windows XP Setup stops with "Stop 0x0000007B" on Portege R100

I have a Portege R111, but it is the same model as R100. I am trying to install WinXp on it, with a lot of problems.
I have no CD to recover, but as I've read, it's possible.

I use a PCMCIA-cd/dvd player. It starts fine, but after I get a blue screen with the error "* Stop 0x0000007B."
On the microsoft home page, I've read a lot about this
    [http://support.microsoft.com/kb/324103/en]

It seems that it is a problem with my hd, so I disassembled the 1.8 "HD and connected to my normal pc. Here, I could install WinXP without any problem.
Then I reassembled the hd (with the top winxp system), but guess what, it doesn't. I just get get the menu in what mode I want to boot into windows (safe mode, safe mode with network,...). Whatever mode I select screen freezes after.

I tried to run a normal linux (ram only) on it to see if that works. But it's not. The screen freezes while trying to load the kernel modules.

Any ideas on how to solve this problem?

    Hi guys

Portege R100 supports the recovery through the BIOS (by pressing 'C') with (16-bit and Cardbus) PCMCIA cards.
Sequence of disks and controllers (PCMCIA) might work:
    (a) Toshiba, PX1055E-1NST SN: 3431490096 with PC Card (16 bit), II cable, PCMCIA, Rev.043.242
    (b) Toshiba, PX1055E-1NST with a CardBus, cable II, CARD BUS, Rev.136

The drive used in conjunction with the PCMCIA controller is not so important due to the fact that the driver in the BIOS must allow the controller first. There is a generic CD-ROM drive implemented in the BIOS for the connected player. The "PC Card controller Mode" settings in the BIOS has been 'Automatic Selection '.
This means that you have nothing to change in the BIOS, because it is the default value.

It could happen, to connect the power supply in certain circumstances, for example:
    Battery is charged too less.
The PCMCIA supplies unless energy location.
If a player is used with a built in battery, please always connect an appropriate adapter.

  • Various installation with the Portege R100 and Windows XP issues

    Hello

I recently bought a used Portege R100. It came without OS and I wanted to install XP SP2.

I know that restorations only work with PCMCIA readers adapted, but the HARD drive is formatted, so there is no recovery possible I guess.
    Here are my problems:
-with my very old Freecom PCMCIA CD player the Windows installation CD is recognized, and it starts to load the XP drivers until he wants to start copying files installiation--> then I get the blue screen of Windows with the error 00 x 7 (virus or driver)
-the same thing happens with my former W2k Pro installation disc.
-With the even more ancient W98SE, strange things are happening too: installation seems to work fine, but when it comes to start with W98SE, for the first time, the system hangs up with pixelgarbage.
-Make the 6 Bootdisks with makeboot doesn't work anymore.
-J' also tried MS-DOS! And guess what! It worked! Loading the Freecom drivers and copy of Windows I386 folder on my hard drive with the volkov Commander (something similar to NortonCommander) worked too! So I got hav files on my drive but after running Windows NT in the i386 folder, the system hangs after some time, when it starts to copy the files to a temporary folder.

So I tried almost everything I know. at this moment I am download knoppix to try it.

I ran Memtest86 and 9 Diskmanager to test the RAM and HARD drive, finished two withut errors, so the priority of main parts in the installation process seems to work. Maybe it's that my IDE controller is broken?
I have no idea, WHY does he not move windows!

    Help is hot!

    Thank you

    Christian
    Does

It should work out that way, run you own your HD first in Fat32format - file-system, otherwise it won't work!
Don't forget to use "smartdrive' in your BACK-commissioning, otherwise it will take a lot of time, even the 'freeze' is possible.

I understand that since you had the laptop he had an overheating problem with a loud fan noise that causes freeze it.

Recently, you have received the message that the CPU fan has stopped working and you couldn't hear the rotation of the fan to the top.

You have removed the fan and checked, but the fan works.  It is possible that the connection was not safe in Notepad.

    Hi, AOG,.

Reset the bios to default values (including all the bios profiles) and delete all the utilities of the could adjust the speed of the fan.  The overclocking utility is an example that could change the fan curve.

    Use the stock Intel heatsink?

Try a couple of different temperature, followed problems to ensure that the CPU temperature is correct. CoreTemp, PC Wizard and real Temp might be good choices.  Some temporary programs are known to be buggy.

Check the level of the bios of the motherboard against what has been posted.
