Portege R100 - starting problems

Hi all

just got a used R100, has got to eBay.

the first problem - to start the system.
says "insert system disk" permanently
No matter what camera you select to boot from the
do not enter the bios update mode
inherited settings are set to 'active' in the BIOS

When you plug a usb key, a LED on is displayed for 1 second and then fate

I turned on to the first time he received a message that the RTC battery is dead...
I don't know if maybe it's the cause of all that.
the last test is now to get a USB floppy drive, I'm not sure, but this might help I guess
is or maybe replace the RTC battery - replaceable?

Try to boot Linux via PXE, but I'm not too well known in this...

BIOS version is 1.30

Any other ideas/suggestions how to start this device?

At a first connect the laptop to the power running and let it at least 48 hours. The CMOS battery is overloaded.

What message, you see at startup? Somehow the HARD drive is not ready for start-up.
The question is what is with the HARD drive. HARD drive recognized in BIOS and listed as boot device?
Maybe is the faulty HARD disk. HARD drive controller is maybe defective?

Do you have news of all this?

  • Re: Portege 3440CT - starting problems

    I received a Portege 3440CT by a former colleague. It works under Windows 2000. She has not used in more than 5 years and can't remember what the password was. I tried to log in as administrator with a blank password, but the password has not been left white (grr) so basically I can't cross the password prompt.

    Shouldn't be a problem - there are a lot of Internet password recovery tools. I did a disk using this one here: http://home.eunet.no/pnordahl/ntpasswd/ intending to boot from the disk - there is a brand USB Toshiba external floppy drive.

    HOWEVER: the Portege stubbornly refuses to do. The boot order is set to try the FDD before all other options; I manually told to boot from diskettes; There is no ignoring me and Win2K boot from the hard drive. Would be very grateful for any ideas!

    I do not have:
    a reader of CD or DVD for laptop;
    a network connection or internet on it, as far as I know;
    disk recovery or installation of Windows;
    anyway to start Windows without knowing the password.

    I have:
    USB flash drives / external hard disk drives;
    The installer of Ubuntu (although on a CD, so useless without a CD player?);
    other computers.

    Wipe the hard drive is a solution I'd be happy to see if anyone can advise me on how to do it - there is nothing important about the laptop that should be retrieved.

    Hi abi278,
    first of all: what do you think?

    -install a new os on this machine?
    -use the operating system installed?

    get rid of the operating system administrator password:
    -install the drive in another system and run norhdahls supertool > read each line which is given! It is able to check the registry to another hard drive as the boot device.
    -make an installation of xp on another machine, sysprep this installation and change drive hard back
    -install the drive in another system and make it bootable with back, copy the source files for the system of desires and run the installation after you reinstall hard drive to your ct 3440

    Maybe you need a special player to install...

    BTW: nordahls disc resets passwords * inside * your operating system - read the manual of this powerful tool.

  • Re: Portege 500 - starting problems

    I have the following problem with my Portege 500:

    When I turn on the computer the laptop appears to hang with a black screen, no icon of Toshiba and no Windows icon.
    Light blue hard drive indicates that the computer is something.
    After waiting for a time very, very long time (can be hours) I disable the hard way by pressing the off button for a few seconds.
    When I start her again the computer starts up normally and is in Windows in less than a minute.
    The issue also appears sometimes when I start it from sleep mode.

    I have Windows XP with all updates on the computer. I downgraded from Vista, after slow performance.

    I lie in the newest bios.

    I had the computer on service once when I had Vista on it because I've lived that I think has similar problems. According to me, once again to send to the service.

    A solution out there?

    Have you tried to reinstall Windows XP already?
    And try if this happens when you use your laptop only on battery and only on the AC adapter / CC. Perhaps this can clearify something.

  • Problem of Eve Portege R100

    Dear friends,
    I have a problem with my newly purchased Portege R100. When I try to switch (or in hibernation mode, in fact), it starts the process and then stops and displays an error message saying that it is in conflict with the keyboard player and I might need to update this.
    Of course when I try to update, it shows not any update for the keyboard drivers.
    I was wondering if anyone has experienced the same problem and how you solved it.

    Thank you
    Riccardo

    Hi Riccardo

    As far as I know, this problem may occur if you use the external keyboard because for now what laptop enters standby or hibernation to stop all active processes. Now there may be some conflicts because many programs or processes can make the problems by putting off circuit.

  • Portege R100, PXE - boot problem - E61:Media Test failure, check cable

    My portege r100 4004GAH original hard drive has had some problems recently, so I decided to replace it with a bigger 4006GAH. Specifications, it seemed that it would be appropriate.

    So I tried to install standard windows top. Unfortunately as I soon discovered that didn't work and lead to BSOD. I looked online and remembered that I had in fact to use the recovery of three discs. Fortunately for me I still had the freshly sealed and I've also owned a combined remarkable Targus CD drive supported. If in the three discs are gone. All seemed well and after that the last drive ended, I was asked to remove the disc. The laptop has rebooted and then gave me the

    PXE - E61:Media Test failure, check cable
    PXE - M0F: Exit Intel PXE ROM
    Insert system disk
    Press a key to continue...

    I thought it might be in the order of start, but verified that and it seemed right. HD was first. I also changed the order and the same error came.
    I thought while another component of my laptop may be broken. So I put my old hard drive in. It started fine.
    The next thought that the new hard drive was defective.

    Fortunately, this is not the case. Because when I used the recovery disks not only heard disk hard turns to the top, but the hard drives were detected and recovery installation displays the correct memory size.

    I'm completely stumped on hat w what is the problem. Any help would be appreciated.

    It is not easy to say what the problem is but you said the Portege started fine with the old HDD. So I think that there is something wrong with the new.

    In your case I test the HARD drive with a special tool like Drive Fitness Test. Download the CD image, burn it to a CD and boot from it. Then you can test the HARD drive.
    On the same site is a user's guide if you want to know more.
    http://www.HitachiGST.com/HDD/support/download.htm#DFT

    In addition I am interested in what you have the same problem with a Microsoft installation disc if you have one.
    So try if your HARD disk has no errors.

  • Portege R100 - question about the installation of the USB port and Windows problems

    Hello

    I just bought a used Portege R100, but I have some problems. Of course the laptop isn't a CD or DVD, player so I tried an external DVD drive, but it did not work. What kind of device I have to install Windows (not an edition of recovery or anything like that, but a whole new windows on the formatted HARD drive)?

    I also have another problem: whenever I plug a USB device (I tried the DVD drive external and a USB keyboard) when I start the laptop, it seems to hang. At least, I am not able to type anything more; the keyboard of the laptop is dead (the point where the entrance would still be flashing in the BACK platform, but typing. sth on the keyboard isn't doing anything). It is not normal, is it?

    I also tried to get to the BIOS, but I tried various commands (F1 to F12, DEL etc.), but I couldn't access the BIOS. It would be great if someone could tell me the command for it.

    Thanks in advance for the help and sorry for the bad English, I'm not a native speaker :)

  • Problems with RIS, Portege R100 and, possibly, XP SP2

    Hello

    I have a problem with RIS on my Portege R100, when I try to install Windows XP SP2. I have a problem where he complained that I never had a the network driver needed to use RIS, a quick search in the Intel Web site services showed that there was a new. INF file that should be placed in the folder i386 to enable RIS th work. When I start now in PXE/RIS I move forward, but only a little.

    He seems to have all the necessary files until it says: 'the installation program starts Windows', and then display the BSOD.

    It's very frustrating because I have a number of laptops to build.

    If you need more information do not hesitate to ask.

    Martin

    Hello Martin

    If I understand you just talk about installation service remotely. The problem is that Toshiba supports only the OS. BACK is not supported, but you should try to fix this problem yourself. I'm sure that he can somehow work.

    Good luck!

  • PORTEGE R100 CD-ROM recovery problem

    Hi, I had a few problems of recovery PORTEGE R100. My problem is that when I try to reinstall the system with the recovery of the boot disk CD, it does not recognize the CD. The CD-ROM is not a TOSHIBA product. Is there any solution for this?

    Hello

    It will be interesting to know if your external CD is a USB or PCMCIA device.

    You must make a Windows startup disk and add drivers for your CD-ROM BACK drive and then you should be able to recover the machine with this CD.

  • Portege R100 does not start

    Can someone help me please. My Portege R100 does not start, when I turn the following text appears: in touch with tomorrow toshiba. After a few seconds a black screen with a blinking cursor on the left side of the screen.

    Thank you very much

    Hi Rehana,

    The Toshiba screen you will see first is the initial start screen is displayed while loading the BIOS. Once the BIOS has completed its process of loading, the system tries to boot the operating system and it is at this point that you have found the black screen with the blinking cursor in the upper left.

    Unfortunately, this indicates usually that the laptop can not load the operating system from the hard drive, or because the hard disk itself has not the contents have been damaged somehow.

    You might try to charge your laptop in 'safe' mode (press F8 during the initial loading of the BIOS) or you can try to boot your laptop from a bootable CD/DVD and hard drive.

    Finally, you can try to re - install your OS from the recovery CD.

    Kind regards

  • Portege R100 - does not start from CD player

    I have Toshiba Portege R100. I want to format and start all over again

    I use killdisk, excellent utility program, normally takes place the disc cd but the machine does not start from cd player, even when it is said in the bios, it says 'error of cable' & drive still works fine when the system is installed & running

    I want to remove unbuntu & just xp, thought that I would start plus-plus easy or simply to remove unbuntu?
    If remove unbuntu, how can I do this?

    Best regards, TIM

    Hey Buddy,

    If you want to have XP only, try to boot from a XP disc. You can format the drive HARD whole with XP disc that even Ubuntu is installed. I put t understand why you use another program to format the HARD drive

    Then boot from a XP disc and follow the instructions on the screen. If it doesn't work, it seems to be the material of your player to malfunction.

    What external hard drive that you are using?
    I read in this forum of Toshiba that not all external drives are compatible.

  • Portege R100 and RIPREP

    Hello

    I'm having a problem with RIS and my laptop Toshiba Portege R100. When I try to extract an image from the notebook using riprep, it keeps failing. This happens even with a vanilla XP installation. All other my laptop works very well except this model.

    I noticed that since the file riprep.sif the last lines are missing from the torn picture failure. A successful image should look like this:

    [OSChooser]
    Description = "test image - Toshiba R100"
    Help =' '
    LaunchFile ="%INSTALLPATH%\%MACHINETYPE%\templates\startrom.c omĀ»
    ImageType = SYSPREP
    Version = "5.1 (2600) '"
    SysPrepSystemRoot = "Mirror1\UserData\WINDOWS".
    HalName = halacpi.dll
    ProductType = 0

    An image failed would replace the last few lines with the following information:

    [OSChooser]
    Description = "Windows Professional.
    Help = "this will install Windows Professional in a standard configuration.
    LaunchFile = "%INSTALLPATH%\%MACHINETYPE%\templates\startrom.co m '.
    ImageType = "Flat".

    I also checked the riprep.log file to see if there was no problem there. There are some services that were not arrested before the images were torn off. However, these services also appear in other newspapers of riprep files other images which have succeeded. I also stopped these services before starting the imaging process, but the problem persists.

    I rip an image successfully just now. I showed a colleague what happens when I tried using riprep, and it worked. I was pretty stripped, but this was the first and last time.

    I should also mention that the configuration of the network is DHCP statistics. I also tried to give a static IP address.

    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Portege R100: RTC battery replacement

    Problem: On my computer laptop Portege R100 the RTC battery needs to be replaced (laptop loses date and time system start-up after having done automatically stop when the batteries were empty).

    Question: I am trying to figure if this RTC battery is easily replaceable, i.e. I can order it from my dealer and can their technician quickly/easily replace the battery or is this battery soldered to the motherboard and replacement has so to do by Toshiba technicians, which means that my laptop will be gone for a few weeks?

    Thanks a lot for any input.

    Hello

    As I know the RTC battery is not soldered on the card mother but only connected with the cable. To remove the CMOS battery, you have to disconnect the cable from battery RTC PJ8760 on the system board and remove the battery from the RTC to the RTC battery.

    All that s. But if you have no experience in these things you shouldn't t replace yourself. The safe option is to contact the Toshiba service partner to change the battery. Here, you can also order one compatible
