Portege R400 - No 3G module?

I just bought this beautiful Portege R400.
After some research on this forum, I managed to insert the phone card - 3g.
But I am not able to acivate the modem 3g - I don't even find it in the Device Manager

A few basics:

Modellname PORTEGE R400
TEILENUMMER PPR40E-00S01SJN
BS-Version Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate 6.0.6000 (German language)
BIOS Version 1.50 version
No modem

Trying to install TOSHIBA 3 G RF POWER CONTROL UTILITY Version 1.0.1.7 organizers can't do anything (does not install anything, probably because the device is not found)

is anyone able to get some help... Thank you

Hi dude

I think that it s not you know that Toshiba delivers clean products with different hardware configurations and specifications.

Not all Portégé R400 were equipped with the 3G module

Your PPR40E Portege R400-00S01SJN does not support this module and therefore the TOSHIBA 3 G RF POWER CONTROL UTILITY does not work.

Welcome them

  • Portege R400 - does not recognize 3g module?

Please help: I got my new Toshiba Portege R400 (PPR40E-00T018G3). I knew that some of the R400 is module 3g, but I could not know if my has a or not because there was nothing on the box or it will show or not (except that on the screen Toshiba Edge 3g icon is always with a triangle below? I assumed that it was because he has no SIM card...), but when I was upgrading memory I noticed that under a keyboard (where is a memory slot) is also a SIM card reader, so I assume that my R400 is equipped with 3g module (why they would put SIM card without 3g module reader?).

I saw no devices in Device Manager in windows, but I thought that when I put the SIM card, it would install itself (I also did not notice a bluetooth until I installed it later!), but when I put the SIM card, nothing happened - indicator 3g is still off, and I have no new devices in Device Manager. Of course, I installed all the software that was on the page of drivers toshiba r400: Wi - Fi broadband Mobile (Novatel), 3 G RF Power Control Utility and MobiLink, but I have not had any indication that the 3g module is, and when I opened Configfree on dial-up/WWAN, he says: not availible. Mobi link says that there is no device. When I press fn + F8, I get only icons bluetooth and wifi, not 3g. OS is Vista Ultimate Edition and Windows 7.

    My questions are:

    1. is it possible that my R400 (PPR40E-00T018G3) doesn't have a 3 g module, although it has SIM card reader?

    2. for users of R400, you had some indications that your 3 g module exists (i.e., devie Manager etc.) before set you up the SIM card? Or he was dead, and when you put the SIM card he moved.

    3. what drivers did you use and how do you control the connection options?

Need help please with some info, I read all the posts on the forum about R400 and 3g, but found no solutions. I have seen that some users have their 3g modules R400 works, and ask them for help.

    Thanks in advance!

    > 1. Is it possible that my R400 (PPR40E-00T018G3) doesn't have a 3g module, although it has SIM card reader?

    It is correct.
Some R400 were equipped with module 3G and some don t support such module.
Your R400 PPR40E-00T018G3 was not equipped with the 3G module and so it may not be recognized.

  • Portege R400 - how to get the fingerprint device to HDD unlock

    Portege R400 model PPR40E-00901LEN

I've had this laptop since 2007 new (approximately). I put the BIOS and disk passwords HARD and the biometric to unlock the BIOS, HARD and Vista drive. It worked well until recently. Result of an incident when someone tried to crack into the machine, it unlocks is no longer the HARD drive

The attacker confessed to the use of BACKSPACE to work around the footprint digital, correctly guessed the password of BIOS and going on to make several attempts to enter the HDD password.

Now when I try to access the computer by using the fingerprint reader, it unlocks the BIOS ok, so he remembers clearly to me. However, it is not open HARD drive. Apparenlty the fact that 3 + failures to enter the master password disk HARD text forces text of this password and no biometric entry. At least, there seems to be something like that.

    My questions are

    (1) in these circumstances, the BIOS anterio-rite the biometric to forget the HARD drive password?

    (2) or is still piometric my disk HARD but the BIOS password feature is not asking him?

    (3) if 3 or something similar, so this password is always in the biometirc device, how to tell the device to provide this password?

Please note that I can't in the BIOS right now, because do not unlock the HARD drive prevents the POSITION to perform.

Of course, I know what I really need to do is type the HARD drive password. Unfortunately in about four years, I forgot it. I hope that I can get into the BIOS if I remove the HARD drive physically, but wonder if there is something else I should do first in order to avoid making things worse.

    Thanks to hope

  • Replacement of the HDD in Portege R400-106

    Hello
I have a Portege R400-106, which no longer has a hard drive - so can not simply go down the number one :-(
I'm working on which drive hard I can put in it,
I see the hard drive in the laptop space has pins IDE. It is possible that it is type PATA, but my research so far suggests that when readers say they are IDE, I should be OK (please tell me if I have this wrong!)
I think that it is a 2.5 drive "I'm looking for and the original drive would have been 80 GB, which is what I think I need.
    I think I blame a MK8025GAS?

    I found one at: http://www.memory4less.com/ConfItems.aspx?modelid=80028876
but the cost is pretty prohibative as I live in the United Kingdom and the expedition of charges.

I can't find anywhere who can tell me which drive is suitable
Cheers in advance for any ideas :-)

    Hello

I found information that original HDD is 1.8-inch PATA HDD with a capacity of 80 GB and you can use MK8007GAH from TOSHIBA.

  • Can I order the disk for Portege R400 XP downgrade

Is it possible to order XP downgrade disk for Portege R400?

    Hello

I doubt that this is possible.
Your Portege R400 was delivered with preinstalled Vista. Am I wrong?

Well, as far as I know there is only one image of Toshiba for this model of laptop and it s only a VISTA 32 bit ULTIMATE.

But of course, you could install the Win XP clean using the MS Windows XP disc.
There is just one small problem; Win XP drivers are not released for the Portege R400 model. I didn t find on the European driver Toshiba page.

So, you have to collect the drivers with your own hands

  • Portege R400 - I want to downgrade to XP

Toshiba Portege R400, I bought over a year ago.
He had installed vista and I ve worked about a month, but after installing a lot of software on I ve been working VERY SLOW.
I decided to downgrade to XP, but Toshiba don t provide a downgrade installation media.
Then contacted Microsoft official support and get an answer: you can use any legal installation media to downgrade.

And when I asked to double activation I have another solution: I m contact Microsoft activation while support and explain my situation and tell my Vista CD key. They activate my Windows XP manually.

It of so difficult to find support for Windows XP tablet pc in Russia in my city. But I ve found a friend and is like I said. Everything worked perfectly.

But not for long, I have my Windows crashed and had to reinstall it. But now without any legal support original.
After installing Windows XP SP3 I have a message on the the validation failure.

I have more mates with any legal Windows XP tablet pc CD.
I DO NOT WANT to buy another OS to this laptop I ve already have Windows Vista Ultimate with downgrade rights.

I want an answer, what will I do with 'illegal' Windows on my Portege because Microsoft says its manufacturer that provides legal downgrade.

I put t want more Vista I ve tried it on PC and it works perfectly, but on this laptop, it is very slow work of BONE

    Hello

You said that your laptop has been delivered and pre-installed with the Vista operating system.
In this case, you can only get a Toshiba Recovery Vista disc.
If you need another OS, you must purchase a full version.

But I have other important information for you; in you are going to install Windows XP on the R400, then you need to search in internet compatible drivers because it seems that the Win XP drivers have been released for the R400 not at this time.

Unfortunately, I have no other news for you

  • Recommend a DVD - RW for my Portege R400

    Hello

I am a newbie and unfortunately not hot with computers either. So I hope that you will understand what I am trying to explain my frustration level is at it's highest.

I have a Portege R400 and then still have been able to find an external DVD - RW writer. I went through two DVD burners, one being a Sony that never seem to go further than to try to install the disk that came with it. The other a HP took 4 hours to install and has not finished yet so I turned off and tried at all times with the same problem each time. The two products were returned to the store which was good, but now I have so many movies on my laptop that I need to burn it to CD to watch and cannot do.

Whereas now throw the laptop out the window, as here in the Canada in stores can help me! In a store, I ask the salegirls for DVD burners it I looked with love and after 3 minutes to digest what I asked happily answered "we sell only the quarters!" Now what am I supposed to do with this answer?

Any help is greatly appreciated, and I apologize for not being more savvy with this kind of thing.

    Thanks again.

  • How to restore a Portege R400?

    Hi all

I need a Portege R400 of restore factory.
This model is not equipped with a CD/DVD player, and there is no recovery CD in the package.

Could someone advise me on how to proceed?

Thank you, all the best, federicoan

    Hello

I guess you need a drive CD/DVD external, PC card to boot from the recovery disc.
Such disk could be ordered in the ASP in your country, also the recovery DVDs could be ordered in the Toshiba authorized service partner.

On the other hand, I think that the laptop was equipped with HARD drive recovery option. In this case, you could press the F8 key to get the advanced boot menu.
Here you can choose the option called fix my computer.
Then you can choose the Toshiba Recovery option.

Usually, this option is available in most of the new series of portable but I not very well if it was included in Portege R400 too Mr. so just just checking.

  • Portege R400: Very slow Performance with Vista Ultimate

    Hi all

Portege R400 is delivered with Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit Edition and Vista is really - honestly - incredibly slow! (especially with R400, due to the configuration of the laptop)
So I decided to install Windows XP Tablet PC... But I discovered that there is no driver available for R400 XP.

I'm not directly complaining on the Portege models/series...
It's a great design and I bought it, knowing the configuration. But I didn't know how Vista was eager for system resources...

I complain on Toshiba policy or what-so-ever ONLY to the Vista and not XP drivers.
Microsoft is desperately trying to sell Vista because they know, they really don't have this time and I heard stories about how they block their own market XP.

.. .and I think that Microsoft and Toshiba can have an agreement on "selling only computers laptop Vista..." (just a guess but it seems so... correct me if I'm wrong)

It is a torture to use Vista on Portege R400 and other equivalent configurations. (even when all the Visual effects system, disabled etc.)
On the other hand, I can't use my XP on R400 tablet... so...

So, trust me when I say I'm going to throw it away!
But before doing this, if anyone of you knows a solution to my problem. Please let me know,
because I paid a lot of money for this turtle.

    concerning

PS: I hope that this is a democratic platform and my post not be erased or changed.

    Hello

First of all, you don't have to suspect Microsoft or Toshiba has an agreement with Vista. Toshiba isn't the only primary selling units with just a VIsta operating system, almost every laptop to the manufacturer it.
And you're right, Vista is a slow operating system, because it has a new UI with lots of graphic effects here and there and many features like the sidebar, you have really not at all.

Since I bought my first one Vista laptop at the beginning of the year, I thought, as I don't want to not be installed and want my XP back and so on and there was no available to manufacturers of XP drivers download page either. I have a Toshiba laptop no and had the same frustration as you.

Now, I had two options, check every important feature on my own via google or using tools such as engineering pilot or pimp my Vista driver installation.
Firstly I did an installation of XP, all drivers to research, I need, who did not take my as much as I thought it would be. But after a while, I wanted to give the new Microsoft OS a chance.

Used disk recovery and first wiped all the software I didn't need, so goodbye almost every tool installed on my machine, which was not unique to microsoft.
Disabled many features, that I didn't want and I can say, speed increased a lot! This brought my buy an original version of Vista, made a new installation, installed all the drivers necessary, and hey, I'm happy with it.

Thus, ended with my story, you have two options now. Search XP drivers on your own, using the tools and google or tweak your Vista. There are many guides on the internet that can help you.

And do not be angry with Toshiba, as it's the same problem with other manufacturers too, as you can see in my case.

  • How to access internal memory Bay on Portege R400

    Hello

I have a new portege R400 (3G model)... After still be angry that I can't pre-order with 4 GB (comes with 2 x 1 GB and I have to take these and 'waste' by putting in 2 x 2 GB) and even it is a surgical operation... in any case the manual and the online version are both obsolete.

They refer to the sliding of the protection plastic on the keyboard and then using a size zero Phillips screwdriver to remove the keyboard that will expose the memory slot internal...! Nope!... who may have worked on 1st gen R400 and M400, but after you remove plastic cover there is NO screws...

    Grrr

Someone managed to overcome this yet?

    G

    Hello

The manual are not obsolete man. The keyboard is always fixed with two screws!

The an expandable memory slot located at the bottom of the unit and another slot under the keyboard, as described in the user manual.

The 2 teams should be placed near the hinges of the screen!

If you have no experience with these disassembly please contact the ASP or a laptop in your country for a technician help!

  • Portege R400: How to enable the TPM in the BIOS

    I have the Porteg R400.
The TPM is asking me to activate it TPM chip by setting the bios, but the bios setting there is not the activation setting.

This means that it is not the TPM chip installed?

    Hello

AFAIK the Portégé R400 supports the TPM chip, but it must first be activated.
The special BIOS upgrade is required to activate this option.

But it's a little tricky to my knowledge only the Toshiba certified maintainer can do that.
So I would recommended contacting the service guy and ask a technician for more details!

Do you know how to contact the ASP?
On the Toshiba page you will find a list with ASP available worldwide.

    Check it ;)
