It does not and no other light either, just the orange flashing light DC/plug light flashes. Infact, it continues to Flash even after I disconnect it. I have to take the battery out to stop the blinking.

I search on the internet and only found this:

So, how can I fix this problem now? Can someone please help?

Thank you.

Hello

Which is really strange, buddy.
Have you tried to remove the battery and the AC adapter? Then wait an hour and after that connect the two devices again and try to start the laptop.

If it doesn t work I think you need professional help from a service provider allowed. It seems to be a hardware malfunction, and this must be checked by a technician from Notepad to determine the cause of this problem.

If you n t know where to find the nearest ASP, you can search on the Toshiba site for her:
http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com > support & downloads > find an authorized service provider

Good luck!

  • How to boot from a USB - Portege R500 flash drive

    Hello

I have a Portege R500 running Windows XP, presented about 2 years ago and recently contracted a virus that has infected some of the startup files as the minute I connect it disconnects again, even in SafeMode! The quickest way I can think sorting is to reformat with the XP Recovery disk and reinstall windows.

Problem! The CD/DVD drive on the computer laptop stopped working earlier, tried almost everything in the thread on this site, but had no luck.

So my plan was to boot from a USB flash drive and do it this way. However in the boot parameters I only have the options of HARD drive / floppy drive / CD-ROM / LAN, none of them work. Does anyone know how to boot from USB flash drives?

Any help would be really appreciated

    Hello

As far as I know, it should be possible to boot from USB FDD

I don't know if you would be able to boot from a USB flash drive, but it of certainly worth a try m

Generally, you can try to press the F12 key when the laptop is turned on.
A start menu should appear on the screen, then you should see all bootable devices.

PS: as far as I know the USB startup was available in ToshibaHWSetup (tool of Toshiba which changes the settings of the BIOS under windows OS.) So I guess boot from USB must be possible.

  • Portege R500 stops automatically

Portege R500 stops automatically when it is connected to the power for a certain period.
It comes on Toshiba power cable and cable igo juice. Tends to happen when it's hot, with or without battery.

Yellow flashes 2 long, short 2, 1 x long, 3 short. Only way to reset is to subscribe to the battery and the power cable.

Now the case more often, even if the connection to the laptop isn't hot.

This is the 3rd generation of this laptop I've had over the last 10 years and with the memory of mid-life upgrade, they seem to be very robust and this is the fundamental problem only that I have met.

    Are there patches?

    Hello

The blink code means that a hardware problem has been detected on the motherboard.
So I think this could be a hardware related issue and not an overheating problem
    But nothing is impossible
You can try to clean the cooling fans/modules with a jet of compressed air
Would it help to remove dust from the computer laptop cooling grids
This workaround is useful if the laptop temperature is too high and the laptop stops automatically to avoid that the pieces of equipment against damage

  • Portege R500 - replacement of the keyboard - success

After buying a new keyboard for the R500 on EBay about a year ago, I finally blew the courage to replace a badly scratched by a new keyboard. The reason I've waited? I was worried about how to get out the old keyboard (it is locked down to the chassis, and it was obvious that I have would hurt one during the withdrawal.

There is a nice write-up general on how to disassemble a R500 here:
    http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/Toshiba-Portege-R500/disassemble-laptop-remove-hard-drive.htm

The description above is not to discuss the keyboard however, so here's some additional information and tips:

    * Read this whole procedure before you start - it's simple, but not for the faint of heart.

    * Shut down, unplug the power, remove the battery.

    * Make sure that you have the correct keyboard for your model. The US keyboard is p/n G83C000903US for example. One I removed was a Rev 1 and a new one, I had a Rev 2 (don't know the difference - they look identical). They can get as low as $40-mais check the part number before you buy.

    * The keyboard connector is located under the computer, and so you will have to take off from the bottom, carefully following the instructions in the link above.

A couple of notes: (a) the cable Ribbon PCMCIA connector must be opened to disconnect the cable, as this is the only thing that prevents you from removing the bottom of the computer. You can easily do so through access memory on the back door, but BE careful not to damage the cable lock. It works by switch to the top the little plastic lever that is held in place by small pieces of plastic on the sides of the connector that flex * a little *. Be gentle with this connector. When you put it back later-connector, if you placed the cable all the way into the connector, you can lock with only slight pressure down on the connector, and it will snap into place.

    (b) there are other types of cable Ribbon connectors use too. For example, to unlock the keyboard connector, now visible also on the bottom of the deck, slide both ends of the connector in the direction where the cable plugs in. They are snug and will only move about 1/4 ", be gentle but firm.

    (c) the two tiny connectors blocks free access to the water of the keyboard do not have locks on them. We're a band with only a few drivers, and one is a red and white power connector. Just pull out them. All the other connectors, you will probably miss through requires unlocking, so be careful!

_Now back to the keyboard: _

Once you have managed to disconnect his cable on the bottom, turn the laptop and start to remove the keyboard on the edges. It is supported by many small pieces of sticky tape, 2 faces, and that's it. As the base of the keyboard is made of aluminum, it is likely that you will distort the keyboard a bit as release you it, even though it may be downplayed maybe using a tool like a rule or something plastic and pry with it. Take care of not to damage the connector of the Ribbon and try to ignore these scary cracking sounds that identify each section!

Once you have turned it off, you must remove any excess tape before starting point and again put a bunch of small pieces of new, good quality 2-sided tape (such as 3 m). No need to use anything stronger or thicker - just put a bunch of parts everywhere on the base, especially near the edges and the space key.

Now, finally, turn the keyboard in position, making sure that you screw the connector back Ribbon through to the correct place. Turn the laptop over and re - insert and lock the Ribbon connector (make sure that it is directly and fully forward lock connector). All other connectors back in too. Then come back and push down hard on all sections.

Re-assembling, taking care to put the 4 mm and 6 mm screws in the right places and a tiny on the side.

Cross your fingers and turn it on!

    Good luck!

    Thank mate for this review.
Generally the replacement of keyboard is not really complicated and someone with small technician skills should be able to replace it

  • Portege R500 - HARD drive failure

I am just a HARD disk failure in my Portege R500.

It will not recover from the recovery for all disk options seem to point to a new HARD drive. Is this something that needs connection factory? How to replace (160GB)? Is there an option of a SSD instead? I remember it was talking about

    Adrian Lucas (UK)

    Hello!

You can use each SATA HDD, because there is no capacity limit. So you can buy the biggest HDD 2.5 and I think that it s a 500 GB.

You can use the product for your new HARD disk recovery disk and you will then have the factory with all the drivers settings and tools of Toshiba.

I put t know if its possible to use an SSD, but I think that it s better to use the same technology has been integrated. So it s sure that you have no problem with your new drive.

    Dear all,

I have updated my portege R500 WIndows 7 64-bit OS and had the following problems:

    1. as a first step the touchpad scrolling has worked well (with no driver installed) but then it works more... so I tried a driver but
    2. There is no driver for the touchpad (Alps) which is recognized as a compatible mouse PS
BTW, uninstalling and reinstalling didn't work and I searched a lot on the web but found no solution.

I downloaded the drivers for VISTA 64 bit, is it safe to use?

    Appreciated advice, thank you.

    Simone

    Hello

    > I downloaded the drivers for VISTA 64 bit, is it safe to use?
Yes, it s safe you can try to install the drivers for the touchpad for Vista in the worst case, you will get an error message that this driver is not compatible or will not work.

But look man there is Win 7 Alps and Synaptics touchpad drivers for Win 7.
The drivers were released for other series of laptop.

My Portege R500 screen is a light quite leak in the edges and it is impossible to display anything on the sides.
It is very difficult to watch videos. Black is dark gray.

Can I have a defective unit?
Is it possible to fix this screen to warranty service?

    How is your R500 screen?

    Hello

I'm not quite sure of what could be the problem exactly. There may be something wrong with the FL inverter, but it is my personal suggestion.
To get a detailed fault diagnosis audit specifications would be necessary.

    > Is it possible to fix this screen to warranty service?
If you warranty is valid that everything should be done for free just contact the ASP in your country and ask for later handling.

The technician of the authorized service provider should be able to provide more details and should help you.

  • Portege R500 - Nokia PC suite does not work with Bluetooth

    Hello

Toshiba bluetooth + nokia pc suite works DO NOT!

I have problem with Portege R500. Toshiba Bluetooth stack 6.40 (from the download page) is not compatible with the new Nokia PC suite 7.1.
PC Suite only works with Toshiba Bluetooth stack, driver version 5.10.12. PC Suite indicates that bluetooth can not be found.

Where can this 5.10.12 version be downloaded for 64-bit operating system? I just need for the trial which would even work.

    Help, please!

    Hello

I'm not very well if you want to get an older version of battery BT m.
On this Toshiba Bluetooth portal, you can get the new version 6.40.00 BT

But I don t understand why it should not work with c. 6.40

  • Failing utility Portege R500 fingerprint after upgrade to Windows 7

Just, I improved my Portege R500 to Windows 7 (clean install) and downloaded the latest Tosh utilities and install.

When I tried to set up the utility of fingerprints by the registration of fingerprints, I get to the end where I am asked to register the imprint, and then get the message "operation failed. Model duplicate already exists. "

    Can anyone help please?

    Hello

Seems there is something wrong with the registration of fingerprints for me it looks like the old fingerprints are still present, somewhere in the registry or on the folder of files to HARD drive.

I think you should first remove the traces of fingers and then have to uninstall the software.
After this should clean the registry using a tool like Ccleaner.
Restart the unit. Install the VAP (value added package) and fingerprint software!

    I hope this helps!

I have good gear wheel in the front of the laptop, no sound.

OK, you already checked wheel in front of your laptop. Make sure it is not disabled via the FN + ESC key combination.

The other thing could be, she is silent in sound options or level is set to low.
    Got to control panel configuration-sounds.

There should be a green mark on the speaker icon. Enter the properties and go to the level and put them to 100. Check that there are no red symbol above the speaker symbol.
