Portege R700-155 - SSD connector question

Hello

I seem to have a non-standard connector type on my SSD (THNSNC128GMLJ). I'm now concerned that I will not be able to upgrade my SSD for a more capacious. Anyone know anything about Toshiba use anything other than standard SATA connectors on their SSD family?

This is quite annoying because the laptop was advertised as follows - "Hard Drive - 128 GB Solid State Drive - Serial ATA-150," I'm not an expert but the connector on my SSD does not resemble something like the SATA connectors I have seen before.

Any help or information would be most appreciated.

Hello

The laptop support a normal SATA controller and connector of the disk SSD should also meet SATA standards.
If your SSD supports SATA interface so I could use an inline adapter.

Maybe you need a micro SATA Adapter SATA? Google for it to get a few pictures.

  • Portege R700 - Sandforce SSD OCZ and Toshiba BIOS v1.9

    Hello

It is a question to the Toshiba techy guys. Please can someone confirm compatibility with SSDS OCZ Vertex2 (Sandforce) with the Portege r700?

Since I've updated the stock HARD drive I had problems with BIOS recognizing the SDS when you restart. If I boot the laptop from the cold, that is nice, DDI is recognized and everything is ok, the problem is intermittent. When requiring to restart the laptop to Windows 7 (64-bit), it hangs at the screen Toshiba Leading Innovation. It seems that the BIOS cannot detect the drive for some reason any and just freezes. I read the threads on the footprint software but am already run version v1.0.2.32 - so think it is independent.

I've recently updated firmware OCZ Vertex2 to v1.32 hoping that it could solve the problem and there is not. The question might be more compatible with the Toshiba BIOS Sandforce.

I am running the BIOS v1.9 - please can you guys do something to fix this?

    > That's obviously a problem with Sandforce
Always is it that there are several different manufacturers of SSDS, and it might be possible that not all the parties meet the same standards.
In this case, many manufacturers of SSDS provides updates of the firmware, but this isn't always the case so have to test other SSDS

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the HDD/SSD Alert cmdlet and the Intel Rapid Storage driver, but none of the measures have worked.

    Thank you

    Try this:

Remove the application HDD/SSD Alert Control Panel-> programs and features
Remove the Toshiba Value added Package Panel-> programs and features application
    Reset
Download and install the latest Package of added value on the Toshiba site
Download and install the latest HDD/SSD Alert on the Toshiba site

Otherwise, it would be possible that the problem is related to the HARD drive maybe that alert the program HARD drive cannot read the info of the disk due to HARD drive hardware problem.

    Hello

You can buy any SSD drive that supports the SATA interface.
It is possible that you need to update the firmware, but this should be verified with the manufacturer of SSDS

  • Portege R700-173: Win7 on SSD - how to get a windows installation disk?

    Hello.

I want to install the new 128 GB SSD in my Portege R700-173.

I want first to recovery media. But I do not understand what will contain this DVD.

It will be Windows7 install disc? (I'll be able to install new windows on my new SSD?) with the pilots additional Toshiba and utilities?

or this recovery disk will contain some kind of image of a real system?

I also think that moving my C: partition (windows) from the old HDD to the new one SSD (with Acronis software - I did it with my desktop computer)

should I move only my C: partition (with good shift of k 4)?

What is this SYSTEM 400 MB partition? should I move it as well?

Toshiba Recovery Media Creator says he needs ~6.6GB
While next to Windows recovery media will contain?

Is it possible to install Windows (from recovery disk) on my partition created previously (by the other program)?

    > want to first make a recovery media. But I do not understand what will contain this DVD.
The recovery disk contains the image of Toshiba.
The image is a package that contains the operating system Windows, drivers, tools and all the stuff that was preinstalled on your laptop as on the first day of purchase.

    Welcome them

  • Portege R700 - upgrade Windows 7 32-bit to 64-bit and memory question

I recently bought Portge R700 and am disappointed by the memory. I have a license of Windows 7 64-bit edition: what problems can arise if I update? Once installed, I can then use 8 MB of RAM.

Moreover, I found the reagrding misleading Web site the option of using the 8 MB of RAM with the32-bit OS. I have 4Mb installed, years to see that only 2.86 MB is usable.

I get "out of memory" messages and would like to know how to allocate more memory to live for video.

Tom's right. If you want to use the 64-bit operating system, you must do clean install operating system. All drivers and tools specific to Toshiba and utilities must be installed Additionally one by one.
If you need assistance with installing Win7 let us know.

I put t know for what purposes do you use your laptop and what applications are important for your daily work, but, in general, I don t think you will have problems using 64 bit OS. Please keep in mind that all additional software is 64-bit capable and everything will be OK.

As far as I know laptop user doesn't have the influence of the use of video memory and it runs automatically. It is unclear to me that you can change these settings and set how much RAM can be used for video operations.

Anyway, Portege R700 is nice for laptop with sufficient power for daily use and also for use with standard applications. I don t think you ve bought this laptop for games.

  • Portege R700-17Z - Linux Mint suspend related questions

Hello. I've been running Linux (Mint 12, 64) successfully on the cell above. Only nagging problem, is that the brightness adjustment does not work once the machine went to suspend and vice versa. He also seems to be a problem related to hang with one of the USB ports.

I hope that an update of the BIOS to 2.20 could improve things. T it?
I found two versions of the BIOS. There is a stand alone ISO dated Jan 2012 you can be burned on a CD and the computer restarts from there. However, the README file. TXT, said
    README FILE. CDC TXT 2012-01-23
    ACPI BIOS Flash version 2.20 for Portege R700/R705 (* PT310U/PT311U/PT314U *)

Does anyone know if it is safe and if it works the upgrade to this BIOS that does not seem to include PT310E? ("E" stands for Europe and "U" for the United States?)

Second option is to try to http://support1.toshiba-tro.de/tedd-files2/0/bios-20120207132338.zip whose support site allows in what concerns the P310E. I have to install Windoze 7 on another drive hard (I deleted it from my drive) and run this update of windows (I think it's necessary).

Any ideas, I would be grateful...

    Hello Velastin

As you probably know Toshiba doesn't support Linux and all updates, including updates to the BIOS, are offered for better functionality with operating system Windows. To be honest I have don t think that this update of the BIOS can help you, in your ad, the issues described.

Have you tried to exchange their experiences on some Linux specific forum.

  • Replacing the drive HARD on Portege R700

    Hello

I just ordered a R700 and hope to upgrade the HARD drive of 320 GB for one SSD OCZ Vertex 2.
Is it easy to replace the hard drive in the R700? Should I remove the keyboard is a Panel on the back?
What size hard disk will - 2.5 "or 1.8"?
A SSD will be simply connect using existing connections, or something else there?

    See you soon.

According to the specifications of the laptop Portege R700 has 2.5 HARD drive is HDD with SATA interface, so I think that you should order 2.5 SSD with standard SATA connectors.

HARD drive is placed on the bottom side near the cooling vent and it is fixed with a screw only.

Remove the screws and HARD drive. You will see how the HARD disc is placed and how it must be removed.
It's very simple and you can do it alone.

  • Portege R700 - how to replace the optical disk drive?

    Hello
I would like to replace the optical disc drive (ODD) with a Solid State Drive (SSD) on my Portege R700.
So my first question is: what is the way to remove the STRANGE?

And my second question is: can I replace it with a Caddy drive HARD ICY BOX IB-AC642 or Akasa AK-OS2SSA-BK?
Interface SATA caddy fits with the WEIRD interface?

    Thank you for your answer

    Hello

It s really complicated because the STRANGE is placed inside and remove it you must remove all the screws that fix the bottom cover.

I wouldn't, because you will lose the warranty.
More I doubt you could get the second HDD to work in ODD Bay.
I think that this is not supported
Just the laptop s as Portege M400, M700, M750, Tecra M9, S3 or S4 with a select Bay slim support would treat the 2nd HDD instead of ODD.

  • Portege R700-19 t - new RAM-> start is no longer

    Hello together,

so I bought two new RAM sticks for my old laptop
    Toshiba Portege R700-19 t

But since I installed them, the machine does not start in an operating system more.
The installed Windows 7 64 bit goes to a black screen before the windows at Startup logo (even in safe mode). And after a few seconds, the fans will quickly but nothing seems to happen.

The next thing I tried was a (12.04) ubuntu live dvd. But it does not either. No error message or anything, just an automatic restart after a few seconds of black screen.

    The next thing was memtest86 + v4.20:
It crashes immediately sometimes a black screen and sometimes at this http://i.imgur.com/eJqIyDp.jpg .
I tested my new two sticks together and alone, still the same problem. The old ones that work perfectly and not crash of memtest.

In the BIOS is the only thing on the memory and then it sees the correct "Total memory size 8192 MB.

    Plug portable-mem from toshiba:

    • Standard: 4 (2 + 2) GB

link to the shop where I bought it: https://www.alternate.de/G-Skill/SO-...roduct/1154622

In my understanding of both new sticks should work well with my laptop, or am I missing something?

    concerning

For me, the question is clear enough; the laptop does not start because of new RAM modules.

The new RAM modules are not totally compatible, or the RAM modules are defective.

I recommend you test an other modules; for example modules manufactured by Kingston.

  • How to reset the sensor of fingerprint on Portege R700-174?

    Hello!

    my "problem":

on my portege (r700-174), I run a win7 (which was preinstalled on your laptop), a victory for 8.1. and for some is true the technical preview of win10

all systems are protected by password and fingerprints.

also the win10-test system (for test prints digital-utility in win10)

now, I deleted an old generation of win10 and do a new install with the latest version

Unfortunately I forgort to cancel the registration of the fingerprint I had entered with this old win10 - so now this finger cannot be used
to be entered for the new win10 (or any other system)

    My question

is it possible to reset it completely (clear all the fingerprints for all systems) the fingerprintscanner out of one of my systems running or to cancel the registration of the
Fingerprints for this system, which does not exist anymore on my portege?

    Thanks for the tips

    Kurt

The fingerprints are stored on the fingerprint sensor and you will need to follow the instructions of this Toshiba document to remove your scans of fingerprints.
    http://www.MyToshiba.com.au/support/items/FAQ/386

In the case that this procedure does not work, only the Toshiba certified maintainer would be able to erase fingerprints users digital related privacy information on the fingerprint sensor fingerprint flash.

  • Portege R700-S1321 - cannot set the resolution of 1366 x 768

I have exactly the same problem, as shown in:

    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=64809

The resolution of the laptop to random times and intervals seems to support a maximum of 1280 x 700, which translates into a 2 inch black bar on the right side and the button start Windows 7 off the screen.

Currently its stuck in the resolution of the screen and no matter what I may not make it back to normal 1366 x 768.

External monitors very well with the laptop work.

Its 2.20 BIOS execution that seems to me later.

It seems that the intel driver must get some information that is incorrect.
Research on different forums and using moninfo, I see that the internal display does not support EDID and settings appear to be set by the registry somehow.

I also tried to make an EDID override by creating an inf file that is customized with Moninfo, but appears not to the question of the effect.

I also tried to restore from the recovery many times discs without success.
During the installation of windows occurs, the screen is fine.
When Toshiba additional programs are added to the screen returns to the 1280 x 700.
I suspect that what happens when the graphics driver intel is installed.

If I boot the laptop in safe mode resolution is 1366 x 768, which seems to suggest that it is the driver who has a problem.

Anyone else had this issue and understand how to fix it? I see also that intel do not support EDID override.

Any idea is appreciated. Thank you.

    > If I boot the laptop in safe mode resolution is 1366 x 768, which seems to suggest that it is the driver who has a problem.

I think you are on the right track, and I think that his untimely pilot.
That's why I recommend you to uninstall the Intel graphics driver in Device Manager.

PORTEGE R700-S1321 was equipped with the Intel® Core i5 - 520 M processor and this processor supports the Intel® HD graphics card

The latest Intel HD driver can be downloaded directly from the page of Intel:
    [Driver for Intel Core with Intel HD Graphics processors | https://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=eng&ProductFamily=Graphics& ProductLine = graphic + portable + pilots & ProductProduct = Intel % C2% AE + Core E2% 84% A2 + processors + with + Intel % 2 C % AE + HD + Graphics & ProdId = 3231 & LineId 1101 = & FamilyId = 39]

I need to download the zip package.
Then you can install the driver through Device Manager by using the Advanced installation procedure. This allows you to link directly to this zip package. Windows system would automatically take the driver. After restarting again you that would have settled the last drivers and you should change your resolution.

  • Portege R700 - original recovery image re-failed installation

    Hello

I have a Toshiba Portege R700 for years.
As I have already some difficulties, I did a reinstall it a few years since the recovery partition. Directly.

But, a few days ago, I had some problems with my portege.
HARD drive seems to be broken because it making the noise and was really, really, really,..., very slow.
Yes, after you perform a backup of the data for hours and hours (remember, it was really, really slow), I run a complete reinstallation of "recovery partition". It seems to be good, but... never finished the process, with the same noise from HDD and slower HARD drive IO.

OK, my own diadnostic: change the HARD drive.
This done, and by using the recovery DVD Toshiba just bought (Yes cannot find the DVD of burn of factors), I have the same question.... The recovery process does not end even if im waiting for days...
And I have the same HARD drive noise. With the new!

In order to have an MSDN license, I installed a Win7 Pro 32 bit, but not the Toshiba one.

And he is running for days without any problem!

But I have to reinstall all the drivers and software supplied by Toshiba.

Obviouly I prefer to find what exactly is the problem with this Portege and reinstall the version of Toshiba Windows 7 Pro.

So, if someonre read the story until the question is: NO IDEA?
How to do a HW diagnosed? How to identify the exact problem?

    Thanks for your help.

    Joel

It is really strange. You bought brand new HARD drive or you use a old and used as a replacement?
Have you used recovery disks in the past with success? I mean maybe it's the recovery disc a troublemaker.
