Portege R700-172 how to replace SSD

How can I replace the SSD by a standard HDD? Toshiba has used connectors in the R700-172.

Hi tron.

Can you post a screenshot of this special connector?

AFAIK all SSDS on the market have the same connector, it s SATA port so that I can t imagine that you are not able to install a normal HARD drive, because they have the same port SATA SSD.

  • Portege R700 - missing rubber stopper, replacements?

    Hi all

I have a Portege R700, and the rubber plug on the lower left corner, the one nearest the suction fan broke.

Other than aesthetics, it has consequences more serious, which impede the flow of air to the system and potentially leading to higher time and/or limitation.

My question is, is it possible to get replacements?

    Thanks in advance

I put t know for sure, but I think he can be replaced. The question is where you can get it.
Try to contact the closest service Toshiba and ask if they can order it for you. To be honest, I don't think you can buy it as part separately.

  • Portege R700 - 15U HDD upgrade to SSD using recovery media

    Hello

The installed HARD disk was 320, he developed surface errors.

I decided that I would upgrade to an SSD. I got a 64 GB m4.

I swapped the drives and booted from the recovery DVD. He gave an installation option. Selected, then it opens a command prompt where it starts to partition the drive, everything ok, until it copies the files. It errors with "CRC error or HARD drive.

It is, with the resumption of Toshiba, there is more than 64 GB? How I choose partition sizes?

    Thank you

    Hey Buddy,

And now your problem is solved or how to understand your second assignment?

Is that recovery disk can also restore the factory settings on another SSD or HARD disk. There is no problem and 64 GB should be enough.

These CRC errors could be linked to the SSD itself have you looked for an update of the firmware on the page of manufacturing SSD?
    Have you updated the BIOS?

anyone experienced a high frequency of the Portege chirping. I admit just a few days. Twice I had such a sound and wonder what it is (it is not the typical fan noise.)? I disabled speakers, but this wans't ' the source of it t...

It will be difficult to address this issue on the forum.

Look closely at what will happen in the future, and if this keeps happening again and again I recommend you contact the nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help.
In general your Portege should bring up some strange noises.

  • Desktop HP ENVY Phoenix 860VX: how to replace ssd boot drive in a desktop HP ENVY Phoenix 860VX?

I bought a desktop computer HP ENVY Phoenix 860VX with an SSD of 256 GB of disk as a boot disk with a disk of 1 TB storage.  I have a Samsung Evo Pro 500 GB SSD I want to use as the startup disk.  I cloned the original drive to the Samsung Evo without problem.  I opened the PC folder to move hard disks, and I can't find the SSD drive.  I found the pretty easy storage of 1 TB drive but cannot find the SSD drive.  Can anyone help?

    Greetings,

You can have a PCIe M.2 (Non - SED) Solid State Drive 256Go.

This drive connects to the motherboard, it's the size of a stick of gum.

It can be mounted vertically or stand flat on the motherboard (MB).

M2 the drive is much faster than an SATA 3 SSD.  You may not be happy with this change if you bought a SATA 3 SSD. You might be better off going to a 512 GB m2 if the MB supports. I noticed that the m2 drive runs closer to the rated speed when using a k i7 - 5930 or an i7-5960 x due to the track of 40 PCIe bus as opposed to 28 tracks on the i7-5820 k.

It should be close to the PCIe slots. ASRock, Asus and Gigabyte locate M.2 slots here as it connects with the bus PCIe x 16 and uses the bandwidth of one of the 16 slots x.

If this is true, install the SATA SSD in the available Bay HHD using an adapter 2.5 inches. Then change the default boot device in the BIOS for the SATA SSD. You may need to experiment on what SATA port you use. EFI can be finicky. It is also possible that you may have to reinstall the original image. I have an Asrock x 99 card in m.2. Asrock BIOS is much more forgiving and configurable. I'm not familiar with MB of your PC or the boot configuration options available during the passage of a m2 boot device to a boot SATA device.

This change of equipment could also ruin to restore the PC using the original image. It depends on whether this change of equipment is a configurable option to purchase.

    See you soon!

  • Portege R700-186 - how to install the 3G connection?

I just bought a R700186 and tried to put the sim card from my Iphone in the laptop to check the GSM connection worked although I will soon he needed to travel abroad, but no internet connection.

You have to install windows etc before it works is it plug not and play as on Apple products?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hey,.

Most important thing is that the 3G module is installed correctly with the tools and drivers, but if you use the preinstalled version of Windows 7, everything is pre-installed and works well.

Pilot 3G also contains the software you need to establish a 3G connection.

That s all that you need.

  • Portege R700 - 172 Portable Firefox does not work with Win7 x 64

    Hello
did someone use successfully the portable firefox on this machine? It does not work on my machine. I guess it does not support Windows 7 x 64?

    Hello

AFAIK the portable firefox is designed for mobile use.
Means that you can place it on the USB flash key, and there is no need to be installed on the operating system.
Therefore, I doubt that the Win 7 64 bit operating system is the reason why it s not working do not.

The portable firefox is based on the official version of the common Firefox browser and is compatible with Win 2000, Win XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7.

In your case, I would ask in the forums of Firefox for details.
But it would be interesting to know what could cause this part please so the news with us if you will get more details

  • Portege R700 - BIOS-update 2.20 - WIN does not work

    I have a Portege R700-172-PT311E-03201KGR
    It's a WIN 7 64 bit Machine.

    Current BIOS 1.70
    EC-current Version: 1.40

For this machine, an update of the BIOS and IT's there.
So I downloaded the "BIOS220_EC160.exe" update and tried to treat.

The first message during the update process is: "it is necessary to update the BIOS and THIS.
When I continue with "Run the update", I get the error message:
    "Error: preparation of updated failed.
Given the image file is not compatible with this cimputer.

There is no change in the material of the machine. The only problem I see is that we use McAfee Endpoint Encryption (V6.0.2.6) that could have some influence on the update of the BIOS.

    But I'm not sure.
    Does anyone have an ideas?

    Hello

BIOS update is important to you?
Do you have problems with the laptop?

I have portable three-year-old BIOS was did not updated

However, AFAIK the VAP (value added package) must be to get the updated BIOS updated. Also the firewalls and other security and antivirus preinstalled on the system software must be disabled before attempting to update the BIOS.

  • Portege R700 - how to replace the optical disk drive?

    Hello
I would like to replace the optical disc drive (ODD) with a Solid State Drive (SSD) on my Portege R700.
So my first question is: what is the way to remove the STRANGE?

And my second question is: can I replace it with a Caddy drive HARD ICY BOX IB-AC642 or Akasa AK-OS2SSA-BK?
Interface SATA caddy fits with the WEIRD interface?

    Thank you for your answer

    Hello

It s really complicated because the STRANGE is placed inside and remove it you must remove all the screws that fix the bottom cover.

I wouldn't, because you will lose the warranty.
More I doubt you could get the second HDD to work in ODD Bay.
I think that this is not supported
Just the laptop s as Portege M400, M700, M750, Tecra M9, S3 or S4 with a select Bay slim support would treat the 2nd HDD instead of ODD.

Then I insert the CD change once again, the sequence of boot on the CD, but now, the computer does not recognize the recovery CD. Now, the freezing of the PC after start.

    2. I have a legal windows vista CD I tried to install in the PC but I'm not a clean install because the computer does not read the CD

    3. I tried the CD in another computer. I insert the CD to reboot and the computer immediately went to the wizard of microsoft vista.

    4. I tested the CD rom and it works.

    5. I believe that the solid state SSD laptop drive has failed.

I opened my laptop to check what I need to buy the brand SSD. However, is the first time that I change a SSD drive and I don't know where he is and how to replace. So, if someone can answer with the steps of how to do to replace the SSD I will appreciate it.

    Thank you
    Nils.

    Hello!

In my opinion, it could also be a problem with the CD/DVD drive. I mean you have tried another drive and the computer laptop doesn t read this disc too.
So for me it sounds like this drive is also defective.

But as Akuma said you should also check the SATA Mode in the BIOS.

I think the best way would be to contact you nearest ASP. They can check a defective hardware for laptop parts and Exchange. If your laptop is under warranty, repairs are free.

  • Portege R700-173: Win7 on SSD - how to get a windows installation disk?

    Hello.

I want to install the new 128 GB SSD in my Portege R700-173.

I want first to recovery media. But I do not understand what will contain this DVD.

It will be Windows7 install disc? (I'll be able to install new windows on my new SSD?) with the pilots additional Toshiba and utilities?

or this recovery disk will contain some kind of image of a real system?

I also think that moving my C: partition (windows) from the old HDD to the new one SSD (with Acronis software - I did it with my desktop computer)

should I move only my C: partition (with good shift of k 4)?

What is this SYSTEM 400 MB partition? should I move it as well?

Toshiba Recovery Media Creator says he needs ~6.6GB
While next to Windows recovery media will contain?

Is it possible to install Windows (from recovery disk) on my partition created previously (by the other program)?

    > want to first make a recovery media. But I do not understand what will contain this DVD.
The recovery disk contains the image of Toshiba.
The image is a package that contains the operating system Windows, drivers, tools and all the stuff that was preinstalled on your laptop as on the first day of purchase.

    Welcome them

  • Replacing the drive HARD on Portege R700

    Hello

I just ordered a R700 and hope to upgrade the HARD drive of 320 GB for one SSD OCZ Vertex 2.
Is it easy to replace the hard drive in the R700? Should I remove the keyboard is a Panel on the back?
What size hard disk will - 2.5 "or 1.8"?
A SSD will be simply connect using existing connections, or something else there?

    See you soon.

According to the specifications of the laptop Portege R700 has 2.5 HARD drive is HDD with SATA interface, so I think that you should order 2.5 SSD with standard SATA connectors.

HARD drive is placed on the bottom side near the cooling vent and it is fixed with a screw only.

Remove the screws and HARD drive. You will see how the HARD disc is placed and how it must be removed.
It's very simple and you can do it alone.

  • Portege R700 - Sandforce SSD OCZ and Toshiba BIOS v1.9

    Hello

It is a question to the Toshiba techy guys. Please can someone confirm compatibility with SSDS OCZ Vertex2 (Sandforce) with the Portege r700?

Since I've updated the stock HARD drive I had problems with BIOS recognizing the SDS when you restart. If I boot the laptop from the cold, that is nice, DDI is recognized and everything is ok, the problem is intermittent. When requiring to restart the laptop to Windows 7 (64-bit), it hangs at the screen Toshiba Leading Innovation. It seems that the BIOS cannot detect the drive for some reason any and just freezes. I read the threads on the footprint software but am already run version v1.0.2.32 - so think it is independent.

I've recently updated firmware OCZ Vertex2 to v1.32 hoping that it could solve the problem and there is not. The question might be more compatible with the Toshiba BIOS Sandforce.

I am running the BIOS v1.9 - please can you guys do something to fix this?

    > That's obviously a problem with Sandforce
Always is it that there are several different manufacturers of SSDS, and it might be possible that not all the parties meet the same standards.
In this case, many manufacturers of SSDS provides updates of the firmware, but this isn't always the case so have to test other SSDS

  • Portege R700 - SSD devrais I buy?

Hi I'm new to the forum and I was wondering if people can give me advice on what disk hard solid state to buy for my laptop Toshiba Portege R700?

I heard that a number of readers can give problems Starter such as some Ocz and Corsair models.

Ideally I'm looking around 256 GB of storage space; any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello

You can buy any SSD drive that supports the SATA interface.
It is possible that you need to update the firmware, but this should be verified with the manufacturer of SSDS
