Portege R700: HDD/SSD Alert "cannot get disk information.

The Toshiba HDD/SSD Alert keeps popping up on my Portege R700. It gives the message "failed to get disk information, cannot use the alert function.

The OS is Windows 7 32 bit. Everything else works well.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the HDD/SSD Alert cmdlet and the Intel Rapid Storage driver, but none of the measures have worked.

Someone at - it ideas?

Thank you

Try this:

Remove the application HDD/SSD Alert Control Panel-> programs and features
Remove the Toshiba Value added Package Panel-> programs and features application
Reset
Download and install the latest Package of added value on the Toshiba site
Download and install the latest HDD/SSD Alert on the Toshiba site

Otherwise, it would be possible that the problem is related to the HARD drive maybe that alert the program HARD drive cannot read the info of the disk due to HARD drive hardware problem.

  • Satellite L655D-011-HDD/SSD Alert, HARD drive failure?

I have an old L655D-011 of 6 months and yesterday it started to appear with the message to back up my files because there is a problem with my HARD drive. Well, after having a technical support in the past, I don't give that easily and simply run my laptop to the nearest authorized service center. Instead, I help out.

I did the BIOS update finally. No change in question.
Finally had time to create a recovery media. No problem with that at all.
I reformatted. No change in question.
Checked the health monitor. It shows that my HARD drive is "good". Yet, when I double-click the icon, I get a pop - up with the following message:

    "Toshiba HDD/SSD Alert."

    Disk0

Your HARD drive is SMART failure to predict which monitors the status of operation of the HARD drive. Your HARD drive is facing a problem and CHIP controlling the software predicts that the HARD drive will fail. Toshiba strongly recommends that you create a back-up to the date of your HARD drive. Contact an authorized service provider to check your drive and buy a new replacement if necessary. »

So, after that I decided to run a CHKDSK /f /r. Result: 'windows replaced bad clusters in file name \hiberfil.sys 44990.'

I should be good to go, right? N ° same problem with the precaution of backing up my files.

But this isn't good, is it? If my HARD drive is about to fail why monitor health show that everything is "good"? There is no problem with gel, pxe.boot errors, rattling disc, unusual vibrations or read/write failures.

So, my questions (after all the above and see other threads to ask questions about HARD drive failure messages) are: were there any known issues where the SMART software does not work correctly? Are failure drives hard all from the same manufacturer (I've seen this happen - get a bad batch of a single manufacturer HARD drive)? The health monitor working correctly?

In my opinion your questions cannot be answered simply.
    > Are there any known issues where the SMART software does not work correctly?
How many people must confirm that they have the same problem? I guess this happens from time to time, but you cannot say that this problem is known.
You will always find people who noticed the same issue and not on Toshiba forum only, but on all the forums where people discuss cell phones in general.
    > Is the disk failure hard all from the same manufacturer (I've seen this happen - get a bad batch of a single manufacturer HARD drive)?
How to check or confirm this?

You know, during the first backup all your important data, watch carefully what happens the next few days. If the info appears again and again, contact the nearest service Toshiba and let them Exchange the HARD drive.
The guarantee is valid and it will be free of charge.

  • TOSHIBA HDD/SSD Alert - do I need if I have my laptop on a desk?

Hello all, I guess my question is not on the HARD drive or the hardware itself, its subject the load or the process CPU usage alert hdd in my laptop. Fact it gives a heavy load for my memory?
Someone at - he noticed your laptop to be a bit slower when this option is enabled?
I know it's protection for my HARD drive, I understand that was a time when my laptop falls or is hit, the hard disk will fail and my HDD is damaged.
But how useful this app if I have my laptop on a desk all the time without danger?

Do you advise me to turn it off?

In general the TOSHIBA HDD/SSD Alert function must monitor the operating status of HARD drive and run the backup of the system. It is very useful, but certainly not so important, tool that must run all the time. It runs in the background, does not use the resources so and in fact there is no reason to stop it, only if you want.

    That recommend you?
In my opinion you should let it run. I have the Satellite P500 and it works all the time. I t n t n stop and I noticed a few performance bad/slow more laptop because of this.

  • Tecra R840-109 - alert HDD - unable to get disk information

I turned on my Toshiba Tecra R840-109 and everything looks that the factory settings have been restored, but I still have my files on the hard disk in the users folder (where the system has also built a temporary user I'm connected now, I guess).

At the opening, the computer asked me to do the things you do when you get a new computer (for example accept the license, install browsers, register fingerprints, if applicable etc.). In addition, it showed an error, alert HDD/SDD saying "Could not get the information from the disk, cannot use the alert function".

Is there a way to solve this problem, that is, to apply the previous (original) user?

An obvious solution would probably be to restore the system, but I don't have a backup set to the top (which I will fix as soon as this problem will be solved). Tried to reboot, nothing has changed.

Information on the mobile phone: http://www.toshiba.co.il/en/disconti...ecra-r840-109/

    Any help is appreciated!

    Hello

To be honest situation described sounds pretty confusing and not logical for me.
If you do not have recovery (DVD or USB) media create using preinstalled Toshiba recovery media creator tool.
After this use this bootable media and reinstalling the recovery image so you will have 'presets' again. After the installation of clean operating system, it is not possible to have the old data stored on the HARD drive, not on the C partition.
The fact is that before the installation of recovery begins any HARD drive will be deleted and formatted.

Sorry if I got you. If you have any concrete and clear questions do not hesitate to ask.

    Hello
I would like to replace the optical disc drive (ODD) with a Solid State Drive (SSD) on my Portege R700.
So my first question is: what is the way to remove the STRANGE?

And my second question is: can I replace it with a Caddy drive HARD ICY BOX IB-AC642 or Akasa AK-OS2SSA-BK?
Interface SATA caddy fits with the WEIRD interface?

    Thank you for your answer

    Hello

It s really complicated because the STRANGE is placed inside and remove it you must remove all the screws that fix the bottom cover.

I wouldn't, because you will lose the warranty.
More I doubt you could get the second HDD to work in ODD Bay.
I think that this is not supported
Just the laptop s as Portege M400, M700, M750, Tecra M9, S3 or S4 with a select Bay slim support would treat the 2nd HDD instead of ODD.

  • Portege R700 - Sandforce SSD OCZ and Toshiba BIOS v1.9

    Hello

It is a question to the Toshiba techy guys. Please can someone confirm compatibility with SSDS OCZ Vertex2 (Sandforce) with the Portege r700?

Since I've updated the stock HARD drive I had problems with BIOS recognizing the SDS when you restart. If I boot the laptop from the cold, that is nice, DDI is recognized and everything is ok, the problem is intermittent. When requiring to restart the laptop to Windows 7 (64-bit), it hangs at the screen Toshiba Leading Innovation. It seems that the BIOS cannot detect the drive for some reason any and just freezes. I read the threads on the footprint software but am already run version v1.0.2.32 - so think it is independent.

I've recently updated firmware OCZ Vertex2 to v1.32 hoping that it could solve the problem and there is not. The question might be more compatible with the Toshiba BIOS Sandforce.

I am running the BIOS v1.9 - please can you guys do something to fix this?

    > That's obviously a problem with Sandforce
Always is it that there are several different manufacturers of SSDS, and it might be possible that not all the parties meet the same standards.
In this case, many manufacturers of SSDS provides updates of the firmware, but this isn't always the case so have to test other SSDS

  • ESXi SCSI 5 to "cannot get disk partition information.

Off I must first say that I have tried to follow the guides as much as I could find to solve this problem, but nothing has worked.

We have a server with a single 130 GB drive that ESXi 4.0 resides on and another disk SCSI 5 to that we wanted to use as a VMFS partitioned drive, with a big VMDK, who accesses our Server VM file.

ESXi installation went well, however, when we arrived to add the second drive as another data store, we got an error message: "error during the configuration of the host: could not get disk partition information. From there on, we tried several solution, manually formatting the drive with the tools of command line vmkfs, Re-partitioning for ext2 with GParted Live, erasing information from partition with dd, deleting all partitions, all without success.

We are posting our problem here as a last resort, I can confirm that vSphere displays the total capacity of the car, but not the partition information. It seems also a gap between the capacity of disk fdisk reports and esxcfg-scsidevs - l capacity.

Here are a few out of order, it was after the partitions have been deleted on 5 TB disk (the one that ends with "67"):

I had heard he had some problems with the help of 2 TB disks in ESXi, however I was not sure if it was directly relevant to this problem. I am open to using Raw Device Mappings, I think I've seen a few guides on the methods not supported for adding THAT RDM on a local drive - all advice on this would be welcome.

Currently, we hold a store of data from 5 to and VMDK join one of our virtual machines. I guess my question is: How can I get the 5 TB drive work in ESXi?

Hello and welcome to the forums.

ESX (i) can be used to the maximum 2 TB - 512 bytes to the size of the LUN.  It is documented in KB 3371739.  You can just cut up this 5 TB drive into partitions smaller than 2 TB - 512 bytes each.

    Good luck!

  • Portege R700-155 - SSD connector question

    Hello

I seem to have a non-standard connector type on my SSD (THNSNC128GMLJ). I'm now concerned that I will not be able to upgrade my SSD for a more capacious. Anyone know anything about Toshiba use anything other than standard SATA connectors on their SSD family?

This is quite annoying because the laptop was advertised as follows - "Hard Drive - 128 GB Solid State Drive - Serial ATA-150," I'm not an expert but the connector on my SSD does not resemble something like the SATA connectors I have seen before.

Any help or information would be most appreciated.

    Hello

The laptop support a normal SATA controller and connector of the disk SSD should also meet SATA standards.
If your SSD supports SATA interface so I could use an inline adapter.

Maybe you need a micro SATA Adapter SATA? Google for it to get a few pictures.

  • computer windows XP won't load does not and cannot get disk recoevery to run

After turning on my computer comes up with the Dell logo and then turns off. I tried to start in safe mode and thus to an earlier point, but nothing happens, and the processor is very quiet, so maybe it's that. My main problem is how to get all my files and folders from the hard drive...

    Hi carelesstalk,

    1. don't you make changes before the show?

Try these steps and check the result.
Step 1: Start the computer using the 'Enable VGA '.
    a. see the Description of the Mode of course in Windows XP startup options
    b. in the safe mode options, select "Activate the VGA Mode" and check if the computer starts.

Step 2: If you are able to run the computer to activate the VGA Mode, then turn off the graphics card and check if the computer starts in normal mode. To do this, try the following steps:
    a. Click Start, click Run, type devmgmt.msc, and then click ok.
    b. expand display adapters, right-click on the sub element and click on disable.
    c. start the computer and check if the computer starts.

Note: If the computer starts in normal mode, and then uninstall the video card.

Step 3: If nothing works, then perform the repair facility using XP disk and check the result. To do this, try the following steps:
    a. start the computer using the XP CD. You may need to change the boot order in the BIOS OF THE system for the CD starts before the hard drive.
    b. on the "Welcome" screen, press ENTER to start the installation of Windows.
    c. accept the license agreement and Windows will search for existing installations of Windows.
    d. Select the XP installation you want to repair in the list, press R to start the repair.
    e. the installation program copies the necessary files to the hard disk and restart.  Do not press any key to boot from CD when the message appears. Setup will continue as if it were a clean install, but your applications and settings are preserved.
    f. when the installation is complete, check if Windows starts correctly.

If the problem persists and you are using a desktop computer, we you recommend removing the hard drive and connect it to another computer and then back up your data.

You can buy any SSD drive that supports the SATA interface.
It is possible that you need to update the firmware, but this should be verified with the manufacturer of SSDS
