Portege R930 - Cyrpto erase Self Encrypting Drive (SED)

I have a R930 delivered with a model 320 disc Toshiba SED MK3261SYG.
The confidential nature of the existing data to clean the disc to reuse the system and understand that the reader has the possibility of being "completely erased" in replacing the encryption key, eliminating all access to information existing, any new data written after that the wipe using a different key.

This ability is well documented by Toshiba, but I can't know how in fact do this type of "rag". I understand that there is a lot of "crush" wipe the apps that I can use and have used in the past but the Toshiba WIPE"ability is what interests me as he will be much more quick and logical (at least to me) a"safer"approach

The worm R930 BIOS is 6.50 and although there are settings on the Security tab to activate passwords BIOS and HARD drive that restict access to the drive there is nothing there which allows me to do a "wipe" (or at least I think). None of the applications Toshiba security Assist, etc. utility password that are supplied with the 64-bit version of Win 7 appear to have this ability either.

I searched variousToshiba support sites and can't find any reference to any application that Toshiba makes available to allow a client to perform this type of wipe. I found a utility on the Seagate site, called Seatools which appears to allow you to do this with their readers, but hesitate to try it with Toshiba hardware

Can someone tell me the solution 'approved' Toshiba?

Thanks in advance for any help.
..

Some new discs hard Toshiba supports the technology to wipe of Toshiba.
The unique thing about these new readers is the fact that in certain circumstances, data are automatically removed from the hard drive.
For example, if the hard drive is stolen and it is connected and installed in another system.

Toshiba called the 'SED' HARD disk - which means sed Drives.

I could find a Toshiba info
http://www.Toshiba.co.jp/about/press/2011_04/pr1301.htm

In addition, the technology wipe never work until the customer to activate and when wiping technology has been activated, the user cannot remove activation.
How to activate it?
You can do it by the HARD drive password settings.

With the Perc 5 controller / i you can't use sed, the first controller that supported was the H700. It is not a software solution that I know. Depending on the server you have, you can consider the upgrade to the H700. If you let me know the model then I might let you know compatibility and the part number.

so I want to buy the new HDD, and I want to know how I got my windows 8 key back?

I don't want to buy the new windows 8.

Each laptop comes with preinstalled operating system also preinstalled recovery media Creator called tool. This tool can be used to create bootable recovery DVD or USB media. This recovery media can be used in case this recovery HARD drive installation procedure no longer works or if the HARD disk fails, as in your case.

I presume you didn't create this media, right?
Is that you can order the original recovery image but is not free.
More information, you can get the Toshiba service provider in your country.

I don't know if you can order it on https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx but please check.

  • Portege R930 - upgrade the mSATA SSD succssfull

Just briefly, I wanted to report an SSD upgrade.

When I got my Portege R930 (PT331E, i7) two years ago, I changed the HD to a PRO 840 Samsung SSD 512 GB (big improvement). Now, this SSD is too small (photos!) and I wanted to increase the capacity up to 1 TB.

But instead of a new SATA, I decided to go for an mSATA + adapter SATA I felt an mSATA unit would be more "evolutionary" - next update of the laptop for me would be a Portege Z, who use mSATA.

So I bought a Samsung 850 EVO 1 TB with a Delock adapter/converter mSATA SSD, made a clone of the Apricorn cable and the software switched the SSD and everything works fine (actually a little faster )! At first I tried to use the clone with software from Samsungs migration but this didn t work, maybe I didn t the right version.

-Now I have a lager SSD that will live longer than my R930. Please note that I'm not an expert with computers - just a happy user Toshiba! Thanks for a good forum with my good ideas!

    Please, you have a solution.

    Thank you

    Hello

Fn keys are controlled by special tools of Toshiba and depends on the running system.

Using Win XP, you need to install the common Modules and this must be done first. The common modules is an essential component of Windows systems.
He will perform the other original programming from TOSHIBA to work properly.

    Check this box:
    [Common Module Win XP v6.07.03 | http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_driver_details.jsp?service=EU&selCategory = 2 & selFamily = 4 & selSeries = 151 & selProduct 7565 = & selSh ortMod = null & language = 13 & selOS = 10 & selType = all & yearu pload = & monthupload = & dayupload = & useDate = null & mode = a llMachines & search = & action = search & macId = & country = al l & selectedLanguage = 13 & type = all & page = 1 & ID = 83752 & OSI D = 10 & driverLanguage = 42]

To get the other buttons FN working (ie the screen switching output), you must install hotkey utilities for display devices

Without the good work Toshiba PPV, other software Toshiba would not work properly.
It is important to get the PPV of work package before you start the installation of other software from Toshiba!

From my point of view of a few you should update the Win 7 in the last State before starting the installation of the software. The Win 7 SP1 must be installed before using the additional software.

  • HP zbook 14: encryption driver Hp

I installed the driver Hp encryption, when asked me to reboot. After this he showd a screen to enter the password after it hangs at a black screen with a prompet blinkin, how much time should I wait?

    Mudarjamal

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but a black screen with blinking cursor means the material priming procedure cannot find the Windows boot loader - and that's probably because, based on the title of your thread, you encrypted the bootloader with the files of the OS.

When you do this, Windows will NOT start because the boot loader should NOT be encrypted to make it work.

Won't be hard, but you shouldn't be messing around with the drive encryption unless you know exactly what you are doing.

What MIGHT work is to try to reinstall the Win10 bootloader files.  You need access to a PC for this phase of work in order to create the necessary support to fix your PC boot loader.

Once you have that, please download and create the Win10 installation media from this link: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/media-creation-tool-install?ocid=ms_wol_win10

Note that when you download and build install media, the default tool corresponding to what is already installed on your PC (as in home for the House, and 64-bit to 64 - bit).  While you CAN change these settings, are NOT. If you do, the media that results will be different and will force you to enter a NEW product code.

Boot from the media that you have created and follow the instructions in this link: http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2294-advanced-startup-options-boot-windows-10-a.html

You will need to go to the Advanced Options screen and click on startup repair.  You will probably need to run Startup Repair three times for him to fix all the boot loader.

If it works, your computer should start OK.

If it does not, the only recourse is to do a complete reset of your PC, and to do this, you need to order recovery HP media.  It is a set of DVD and a CD or a USB key, which will erase the hard drive (removing all data, applications and settings, reinstall the original OS, drivers and utilities for HP. In some cases, you will be able to order a USB instead of discs.  You must order at HP; they cannot be downloaded.

You can look online for recovery from the paged media related: http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers

Once there, enter your product name or number. On your software page and download the drivers, select your operating system and version. Click on "Update".  If the HP recovery support is available for your computer, down near the bottom of the page, you will see an entry for the command Recovery Media-CD/DVD/USB. Click on the symbol '+' to expand this entty and click on order to press for more details.

Or, if you prefer, you can do the same by contacting HP Customer Service:

If you live in the United States or the Canada, details are on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/phone-assist.html#section1

If you live elsewhere, contact details are on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.html

NOTE: once you get through, stay on the line until you are finally able to talk to someone ' one - it can take a while!

Note that if HP no longer provides a recovery media for your model, a few other sites, you can check are: http://www.computersurgeons.com/ and http://www.restoredisks.com/

Don't forget to read through the material in the linked thread before attempting the recovery: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00707939

    Good luck

  • Bad connection WiFi on my Portege R930-15E

    Hello

I have a strange problem on my R930 which I tried to solve already for several months, but could not succeed.

As I recently replaced the WLAN router and the problem remained to the laptop, I know now that it's really the Toshiba which hurts.

Question: The WiFi is on the 2, 4 GHz WLAN and there are only two local wireless networks here in the neighborhood. The intensity of the signal is supperb (5), but the speed of the network status changes in a few seconds between the 26 and 130 MBit according to the diagnostic tool for Windows 7 (without doing anything with Notepad). I would not care about it if WiFi would work well, but it's not.

Download videos from YouTube makes sometimes troubled (videos are stuck) but the most important problem is that access to the data to our NAS is really bad.

I know it can work much, much better that I have also two other laptops that work well, both HP, older than 7 years, shows no such a question, signal WiFi is still at 54Mbps or, on the new, with 150 MB / sec. Other tablets and smartphones also do not have these issues.

I tried already to have different channels, but does not help. I've updated also the WLAN, the last driver of Toshiba seems to be: Intel Centrino Advanced - N 6235 Version 13.03.2012 15.1.0.21. Is this really the last being?

In addition, I found around many problems of WiFi in the Toshiba Internet, but so far, none really match my situation.

But I found that Toshiba seems to have bad WiFi antenna, but I sat just 5 meters from the router, so I don't think that it's a software problem (driver). Operating system is Windows 7 Professional 64 bit.

Do you have recommendations for me what to do?

    Thank you

    Volker

    Hello
Indeed, Portege R930-15E was equipped with the Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6235 WLan/BT combo card that supports the 802.11 A/G/N standards.

The latest driver should be available on the Intel page:
    http://www.Intel.com/p/en_US/support/highlights/wireless/can-6235

It seems that the latest driver (at that time) was published at 29/12/2014 and its v15.14.0.1 for Windows 8.1
Anyway, as you can see, this WLan module supports the 802.11A/G/N standards.

I think you should check in the Device Manager-> properties-> Advanced tab WLan card which WLan standard was chosen. Probably, you could change cela a/g or just N

Last but not least, I would recommend allows you to check the WLan Card power saving option.
Option for WLan module energy savings are in the advanced power settings and I recommend you to choose for two profiles (dough/adapter) the performance of the value

  • Can CPU overheating if Portege R930 goes into sleep mode?

I have an a Portege R930. I run an application of 25-30% of the CPU for long hours. If I put the laptop in mode 'sleep', the calculation get suspended? If not, and it is still running, how the CPU is cooled when the fan is off mode 'sleep'? The CPU can overheat?

I * don't * want my program from several hours to be interrupted by a detector from overheating. If I know that the program is suspended in mode 'sleep', I fear enter "standby" mode.
