Ports USB suddenly not recognized

I have a laptop with windows Vista on it and it came with 3 USB ports.  After doing some cleanup, defrag and that you back up all of a sudden none of them are recognized.  They appear in the Device Manager but not in the "computer" section  The wireless mouse does not work and our Ipod is not recognized, although it will load.  We did all kinds of update.  Have not uninstalled and reinstalled material... bit nervous about it and don't really know how to do it.  Good instructions on how to do it would be useful if that's what we need to do.  What should we do?

Any help is appreciated.

Tried to reinstall windows did not help...

    is there a solution?

    Hello

Hmm. First of all, you should unplug all external USB devices.
Then go to Device Manager and remove it all concentrators root USB and USB host controllers.
    Reboot the laptop.

After this procedure, the operating system should recognize and should install new ports.
Now you can connect to a plug - and play instruments. These devices should be recognized automatically. But some external USB devices need additional drivers.
Usually these drivers are provided with the USB device.

I would recommend this review if necessary!

    Hello

If I understand correctly your computer does not detect the printer. You can try the following steps and check the results.

    1) inspect the cable USB and connection:- icon on the USB () facing up when the cable is connected to the product correctly. Check the back of your product and the back of your computer to make sure that the USB cable connects correctly and safely.

After that you make sure that the USB cable connects correctly and safely, consider the following guidelines to check other potential problems associated with USB:

    • Connect any other USB device. Connect any other USB device to the computer and check if it is detected.
    • USB ports on the keyboard. USB ports on the keyboard and on the front of some computers is maybe not powerful enough to support the product. If the USB cable connects to the USB port on the keyboard, try to connect to it in another USB port on the computer.
    • Length of the cable USB. HP recommends that the lower USB cables or equal to 5 m (16 ft 5 in) long. However, a USB cable which is 5 m (16 ft 5 in) in length must be of high quality. Otherwise, HP recommends using a USB cable that is less than 2 m (3 ft 3 in). Do not use connection cables to increase the length of the cable. Use a powered USB hub, if you need more length.
    • USB ports replacing. Connect the USB cable to a different port on the computer to make sure that the USB port on the computer is not the cause of the problem.
    • Defective USB cable. Replace the USB cable to ensure that the existing cable is not defective.
    • Conflicting USB ports. Disconnect all other USB, USB, USB cameras scanners printers and all other connected USB devices. Start the connection of these devices one at a time to determine if the devices to use too much power. Plan to buy and install a hub USB powered if necessary.

  • USB device not recognized... Unplug the thing does NOT work

It baffles me that THOUSANDS of people have this problem, or a variant of it, and no ONE at Microsoft or elsewhere also offers a real solution. Unless of course you want to count the method "unplug your computer", which is the most foolish band-aid for a problem I never heard, even if it works for a lot of people (most). I, unfortunately, am one of those for which the "disconnect" method magic does NOT work. I tried everything what all other posters and responder suggested (BIOS upgrade, change Legacy BIOS definition Enable to disable to activate again, driver updates, uninstall all USB, full power down and restart hours later, use CMD prompt to show only devices, etc.) and do not know what else to try. I would really like to see a REAL answer as to the cause of the majority of the questions posted about the USB error outside the usual "restore your settings, use your restore disk, unplug it, replace your USB key, etc etc etc. HEY! MICROSOFT! SOLVE THE PROBLEM! OR, Hey, here's an idea, a news for you, I'm sure that... don't they exude products until they have been tested (NO! I mean really, fully tested [see XBox 360 RROD])

In case anyone reading this is a real working solution, I'm on a Toshiba A135-S2386, Vista Home, and each USB port is unusable on any device. All ports feeds the device and noise sounds to indicate that a USB device was attached and then proceeds to the display of the error "USB device not recognized" and shows and shows an unknown device connected. It does this for any USB device.

FINALLY: PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT POST A REPLY IF YOU USED THE METHOD OF "DISCONNECT", AND IT WORKED. Grats to you for fixing your computer, but I can just not read another 400 posts of "wow it worked for me great fantastic" when it does NOT work for everyone. I need something new and real. (Sorry to be all grumpy, but I'm tired of these kinds of problems from companies making billions off the coast of junk, defective, half finished, produced a car!) "You listen to Bill?)

UPDATE: just ran a scan of the system file Confirmation via an administrator command prompt and it's clean...
ALSO - was not that before, but now whenever I do a complete power down / reboot thing that it gives me a "Bad Checksum" error and I have to reset the date and time in the BIOS. I need to change the battery in MB? As I said it did not have this before and the USB error was produced, but could this be the problem? Bad battery MB CMOS?

The bios of your motherboard is probably damaged.

step 1. See if you can find a previous version of the bios of your motherboard and return date of the bios.

step 2. Find the latest version of the bios of your motherboard and update your bios.

Do not use a registered version of your current version.

To check the problem is the motherboard or operating system. find something like a live Ubuntu CD

    http://www.Ubuntu.com/desktop/get-Ubuntu/download.

    or

Make a Ultimate Boot CD for Windows

http://www.UBCD4Win.com/index.htm you are using windows xp or borrow a copy to UBD4WIN.

Both of the above run in memory (does not load on hard drive.

Both a bit slow, but are excellent tools.

    Works like a normal computer.

If you can see you USB devices, magicjack, ETC. your BIOS is not corrupt or motherboard problem.

In normal windows if you see not the USB devices, magicjack, etc your windows install is corrupt.

    Reload Windows of difficulty.

If you you do not see the magicjack, USB devices, ETC., your BIOS is corrupt motherboard or other problem.

Redo your BIOS as described above.

All other unwanted do not work , he was done !

  • USB printer not recognized after Windows update

    OT: usb device not recognized

After that suddenly stop, reboot, done, the device is plugged in where the printer indicates that it does not recognize the device. I said abattissent unplug it and reconnect it and if it doesn't work me to replace... I re install the driver for the Hpdeskjet940c but nothing works...

    Hello grasshopper.

This problem may be caused mainly by broken printer drivers, this could have been caused when you installed the updates. I suggest that you start with a restoration of the system on the computer by choosing a restore point when it was working fine.

    a. Click Start, type system restore in the search box and then in the list click on the system restore program.

    b. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type your password or click on continue.

    (c) in the System Restore dialog box, click on choose a different restore point and then click Next.

    d. in the list of restore points, click a restore point created before you started having the problem, and then click Next.

    e. click Finish.

You can see the following article for reference:

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/products/features/system-restore

You can also try driver restore on the computer and check if it helps.

To roll back a driver in Windows send the driver to the version that was finally installed for the device. Restoring a driver is an easy way to return a driver for a working version when a driver update fails to fix a problem or maybe even a new problem.

    a. open the Device Manager. To do this, click Start, type device in the area Manager search and then click on Device Manager in the list programs.

    b. right click on the device for which the previous version of the driver is desired and then click Properties.

    c. click the tab drivers.

    d. click on Roll Back Driver.

  • Bluetooth mouse stopped working & USB device not recognized error

    Laptop using Windows Vista

I was using my bluetooth mouse when I plugged my mobile phone (via USB cable) in charge. I have done this before w/o a problem (perhaps in another USB Port, now that I think about it) but I did this time and I instantly lost the ability to use my bluetooth mouse and the "USB device not recognized" bubble popped up. • Windows 7 - "USB device not recognized" - to load the new electronic Cigarette device. Help, please?

I have Windows 7 Home Premium.  I just bought a unit of the electronic cigarette, manufacturer is "Innokin Cool Fire IV", the usb charger plugged on Acer laptop and comes to the screen "USB device not recognized".  I loaded different brand before without problem, I don't know what to do and I am NOT GOOD WITH COMPUTERS!  My settings are at "install updates automatically" and I DON'T WANT WINDOWS 10!  Can someone help me please?  Thank you for taking the time to read this.

This seems to indicate that the charger has actually been detected as a device, but Windows can not work it out.

Normally such a device should only connect to 5v and 0v pins and have no connection with the pins of data, in this way, that it will not be seen by Windows. I would be concerned by the quality of the device if it has some form of data connection. If you want to continue with this charger, that I would recommend to use a power supply of 5v USB instead of risking the USB port of the laptop, a lot less expensive if it does not. It has been reported several eCig Chargers catch fire. Something like this:
