• SATA HDD via SATA_A or SATA_B on Power edge 2950

  We use a power edge 2950 server in our lab with 32 bit Linux (Ubuntu LTS 10.03).  4x250GB SAS hard drives via (3 of them are RAID5 and 1 is for backup).  And also a 3 (single partition) external HARD drive to use for the collection of data via USB.

  I tried to connected external HARD disk to the SATA_A internal port. I did the BIOS setup (it is updated) the system recognized the disc as 3000 MB. But even the BIOS and the operating system (by fdisk) is recognized the HARD drive, I couldn't reach the files.

  What could be the problem? Here are the possibilities that according to me:

  (1) I can't use SATA_A or SATA_B ports to connect a HARD drive

  (2) there is a > 2 TB disk situation. (but I can use it via USB 2.0)

  (3) in view of the LINUX version (but I can reuse it via USB 2.0)

  4) there is a problem of partition type (thing 512 and 4096 bit)

  What are the answers?

  Is there a solution to connect the drive HARD 3 to (or ability of the lover) to use a faster speed?

  Can I use a usb 3.0 PCI exp card?

  If the drive is recognized in the BIOS, then it is a software problem. There is probably a problem of compatibility with the driver in Ubuntu, or there might be a problem with the file system.

  Make sure that the file system is supported by the operating system. I would recommend starting a RHEL or CentOS live CD/DVD to test the functionality. If the drive works very well in one of these BONES, then this is a problem of driver on Ubuntu.

• Dell Power edge 2850 will not let me install windows server 2003

  I tried to install windows server 2003 on a few servers, I received a few weeks back.  The RAID put a system in place and turned but when it tries to install WS he says that there are no hard drives.

  I tried to download "server Dell Power Edge update through bootable media / ISO ' but there is no download for a 2850.

  It will come down to RAID installed on the servers. With the H710 (T620) and H730 (T630), then YES the Raid 6 and 60 are supported, in the State with the H330 (T630).

  Yet, none of the controllers S (S110 (T620) or the S130 (T630)) will support Raid 6 or 60, nor will the H310.

  Could you confirm the raid controller is installed, if any?

  I don't think that you can pass directly from 2003 to 2012 R2, but R2 2012 is fully supported on the 2900, so there should be no problem running it on there. I strongly suggest you update the system firmware (BIOS, GER/BMC, PERC (first pilot)) before moving on to 2012 R2.

  Hello, I received recently 2 servers working on an installation an operating system however both these server with the same problem where you set the boot device in the bios to cd/dvd drive and reboot and insert a windows install cd in the drive, but the server will not start on that drive and continues to boot hard disk operating system.

  However, if you insert a live cd as erd control for example server start at and run the cd I had the same problem on the power edge 2850 but I could boot from a usb flash key, but this is not possible on 2550 and 2650 as a usb flash device does not appear in the bios.

  A laptop IDE drive should work, but 2003 should be in CD format.  There are however a few books press, however, use DVD format.
