  We have a Dell MD3000i power vault, I want to add 3 new readers more to it, is the MD3000i hot? or must I turn the unit off?

  Currently, the first half of the unit contains 3 discs should I complete first part with discs or I can add the new drive in the second half which is empty elso?

  The MD3000i is hot pluggable you can add more drives to him without it turn off.  You can add the disks on each side.  If you are looking to expand your virtual drive then I suggest that add you them to the team that has the 3 disks.  If you want to create a new virtual disk you can add to each side & create the new virtual disk.

  Your photo shows your problem; You cannot use a PERC H800 to connect to a SAN MD network. You must replace this card with a SAS6E card.

• MD1000 attached to MD3000. Virtual disk not on the preferred path

  I have a MD3000i box connected to 2 boxes of MD1000, these are connected to a Dell Power Vault Storage server 2003 running.

  Last night I connected the 2nd MD1000 and added in 25 TB of drives worth. I had initially hurt mapping the new virtual disk after 20 minutes or so, I noticed that I had shot the Ethernet cable plugged into the Module Raid 0 by mistake. I plugged it back in and was able to map the drive and started the initialization of disks.

  I came this morning to check how everything is done and found an error on the table. Disk not on favorite virtual path, preferred owner: at location 0 RAID Controller Module. Current owner: Module to slot 1 RAID controller. Group MD1000_2 of disc. Ramdisk: Virtual4.

  Now, it seems that influence the new virtual disk that I created. I checked the path virtual disk property and all the other virtual disks are using path 1 and try that I created to use channel 0.

  The virtual disk seems to be working for the moment it is detectable and to initialize itself in the area of operations of MDSM. I'm under pressure to get the space of storage as soon as possible, so I can't really afford to have to blow the virtual disk and restart the initialization. I'm hoping a simple reboot of the storage array will cure the problem, but I guess I can't do so until the end of the initialization of the disks. I could also remap the path to the virtual disk, but I saw online that it does not solve the problem, and I always have to wait until the initialization is complete.

  Any help would be appreciated.

  I deleted the disk group and created a new one that even once, did not help even after that I tried to change the path. I deleted again and created a new and then changed to RAID 1 controller quickly while he was still on the controller 0 (before it came with the failure of the path) as the preferred path that has cleared the error.   Allowing the frames on the switch will allow the frames extended on all interfaces. I don't see a way on this option to activate the frames extended on a specific interface or VLAN. Allowing the Jumbo will not create any problem with common computer network traffic. If this switch is connected to another switch, it's a good idea to have some Jumbo frames enabled on the interface of switches connection also.

  The keys are to use an Adaptec SCSI card not an Adaptec or any RAID card. make sure that you can see the Adaptec in the Service Console, device management using lspci, "cat/proc/scsi/scsi" If either of those who fail then your card is not supported by ESX to RAW device mapping. It is a must. If you have only the VIC, when you attach a SCSI device to passthrough, you need to be able to see the tape drive in the list. If it doesn't happen this way, the device is not supported.

  I would check the firmware revision on the SCSI Adaptec card, as well as the list of VMware HCL.
