PowerConnect 5324: esoteric cabalistic

Hello everybody,

I got a Dell PowerConnect 5324 switch and I try to manage it.
I connect it to a computer with a null modem cable and I run PuTTY 0.62. I set options to :
  • Connection: serial
  • Speed: 9600
  • Data bits: 8
  • Stop bits: 1
  • Parity: None
  • Flow control: no
And then, I switch on the switch. I get this :

Waow. I've tried to change the character set, but none give something readable.I still can type basic command : if I type enable, reload, y it seems to reboot.
But I can't manage it because this display is unreadable.
Any idea ?

Thank you, it works! As I always do, I erase everything, then I rebuild.
Because I want to do is slow, but sure, I write this script in notepad ++, then I copy a line and spent in PuTTY.
I was tired of blindly typing my commandments and not be sure of the result...
(of course the line beginning with # is a comment, and 'y' is just to validate the command reload)

#Reset To Factory Settings enable delete startup-config copy running-config startup-config reload y#waiting

#Configure IP Address enable config interface vlan 1 ip address 192.168.77.250 /24 exit ip default-gateway 192.168.77.1 exit copy running-config startup-config

#Reload to make sure it saved properly reload y#waiting

#Create a web UI user enable config username admin password admin level 15 exit copy running-config startup-config
Then I ran to try to access to the web interface... yeah, victory !!!

Thank you very much Dell Community for your support.
Thank you Dell for your hardware, PuTTY & Notepad++ for your software...

    Hello

The switch supports modules 1000-SX and 1000-LX. Those aren't Fiber Ethernet, fiber channel storage. The 5324 does not support the Fibre Channel.

    1. I tried 2 difrent console cables

    2 - I tried 2 difrent computers

    3 - I tried Hyperterminal & PuTTY

    Hello

Can you telnet to it? You can access the web GUI? If you can access the switch in a different way, you can reset to the factory settings by deleting the configuration of start and reloading. For the console, you need a null modem or crossover RS-232 cable.

  • PowerConnect 5324 and Firefox

I searched a bit for a similar thread that covers this but couldn't find one, so if one exists I apologize for mods, if it exists

I can't manage Dell 5324 switches using some of the latest versions of Firefox. I don't know I tried some of the above, but the main body, on that I want to conquer this short Firefox 42.0

It opens the page and seems to authenticate and then reports that I have to use IE 5.5 or Netscape 7.1

    Management opens in IE 9

Given that this switch is in the private sector and is accessible only from inside management is implemented on http https not so I don't see this could be a certificate problem.

    The software is 1.0.0.45
    Boot 1.0.0.21

Is there something simple that can be done or this switch is so old-fashioned that I will never get to be seen by the latest versions of browser?

In my view, there is a Boot update, someone knows it if that would fix it or is a waste of time, given that the switch seems to be fine otherwise.

The last revision is 2.0.1.4 and includes improvements for the management of the HTTP access. I don't know if it will correct the behavior you're seeing, but I think it would be a good first step.

  • Reference Dell Powerconnect 5324/5424 STP Configuration Question...

    Hey guys,.

I have a basic > intermediate understanding of networking. I recently loaded the research in what seems at first sight be an STP issue on our corporate network. Without going into too much detail, I think I found the cause of the problem. Within our network, we have our basic switching infrastructure and then a second pair of switches / second a lot, much smaller network that "needs" to be completely isolated from the base and core STP network.

However, I have discovered recently that this second network / set of switches are not as isolated as we thought. The second, network supposed to be isolated was installed by a 3rd party company - their statements being that the network should be completely independent of our core network and the only link between the two must be access / management connection so that we can telnet to these switches in the network of base if necessary.  However, I recently discovered that these switches on the isolated network are part of our STP! Not only that, but one of these switches is as root (as it has the smallest MAC address). It is through the management / access ports I think of BDPU must be get sent and received. Is there a way that I stop BDPU being sent and received during these management / access of connections between these two networks - therefore isolate the secondary network and making it create two instances of STP - one for the main network and the other for the secondary. We always request the ability to Telnet to these core network switches - I just need to block/filter STP on Internet access / management ports.

Thank you in advance to anyone who takes the time to read and respond to this.

With protocols spanning tree disabled on the port should not send BDPU frames.

I picked up a Dell Powerconnect 5324 off ebay and wiped the configs, updated the firmware and got it mostly set up for what are my needs but I don't know why good SSH than active and working locally on the same subnet as the ip of the vlan has the following two issues:

  • Ping PowerEdge 5324 problem

We buy a new switch Dell Powerconnect 5324 (24 ports) in order to expand our old Powerconnect 2508 (8 ports) for gigabit connectivity.

If we connect the new switch, we have the following behaviors: a very small number of machines can not ping IP one and only . For example, the print server can ping all printers except one. A PC can ping all other devices connected to the network, except the IP address of a server. At the same time, all other PCs work fine.

If I disconnect the new switch the entire network restart to function properly. If I connect the servers to the switch again the network problem appears again.

There are also 2 amazing things:

    -changes of machines involved (IP)

-a continuous ping on the affected machine works for a few seconds then stop for a few minutes and then work again for a few seconds and so on

I use the default configuration, and I think that it is impossible to configure something like this with a managed switch.

    Do you have any suggestions?

  • Disorders from several VLANS layer 2 layer 3

    Hello

We have a layer switch 3 PowerConnect 6248 switch with multiple VLANs and active routing and also a layer 2 with a PowerConnect 5324 switch couple VLANS configured.  My goal is to have several VLANs, through level 3 for the layer 2 switch switch and all VLANS communicate between them.

I followed the steps under the 3 layer + Layer section 2 to the title of this post:

    en.Community.Dell.com/.../19506015

    Unfortunately, it does not work.

Here is my current set up and what I tried. My configuration is made via the web interface.

The 6248 has VLAN 1, 64, 110, 150 and some other configured on the switch. The IP address of the 6248 is 192.168.64.1.  I'm trying to get some vlan 150 and 110 for the layer switch 2 for may I have some ports in the service of vlan vlan portion 150 and some 110.

I have the IP routing (routing > IP > Interface Configuration) for vlan 150 as 192.168.150.1/24 and vlan 110 as 192.168.110.1/24.

The 5324 is connected to the 6248 via a port (connected to the port 1 of the 5324 and 18 the 6248).  18 on the 6248 port is currently configured as general / Admit All/PVID 150.  Port 1 on the 5324 is currently configured for the same, but with a PVID of the 1.  150 of VLAN is sent without the label of the 6248 switch and vlan 110 is sent labeled.

5324 switch is configured with an IP 192.168.150.2 and a gateway of 192.168.150.1.  I am able to access the web interface of the switch and connect machines in any port and get on the 192.168.150.0 subnet.  I created a vlan 110 on the 5324 and it the tag on ports 1 and 4, but port 4 will not any traffic to vlan 110. I tried many settings of belonging to port / vlan various which have all resulted in failure.

I would greatly appreciate help on this.  It seems that such an easy feat, but I just can't understand it.  I have attached some pictures for people to see.

I had figured it out.  I enabled Double VLAN on the trunk of the 6248 switch port and it works now.

  • Try to access 3 switches Dell - 5212 1 & 2 5324

I have 1 PowerConnect 5212, & 5324 2 switches that the previous admin left no configuration information for (at least they were labeled before the INVESTIGATION period). Tried to reach out to the previous admin, no luck for now. Having said that, without doing a full reset to factory default (thus annihilate all the default configurations that are possible on these switches) can I do with them? I'm sure they have a configuration of vlan / etc otherwise I would just wipe them off. What are the default for these switches identification & information anyway that I can maybe get even the username in use on these if I can try wildly random passwords?

    Thank you!

On some switches, the start menu will have a password recovery procedure. This should be a time to access the switch, you can then copy the configs and edit the user credentials.

worth looking in, hope it helps.

  • PowerConnect 6224 piling on XFP

    Hi all

Just curious about something I've been trying to find a hard yes/no answer on but have had no luck.  Long story short, I'm looking to pick up a pair of 6224 switches and would set up in a pile.  I'm looking at the use of fibers to connect and wonder if the switches will allow me to configure FJ727 XFP modules for stacking or if they will only help stacking if you use the CX4, UY108 or GM765 modules for stacking.

My other question is that if I can use the XFP module for stack, it will force the XG1 and XG2 XFP module to use for the stack, or can I configure a port for stacking and the other for a 10 GB uplink to my router?

    Joekamel,

Only CX4 modules can be used for stacking on the PowerConnect 62xx switch.  You can find more information about all the modules supported for the 62xx under 'N-Series Switches of Campus' at the following link.

    http://en.community.Dell.com/TechCenter/networking/p/guides

If you download the file called 'Expansion Modules for network switches Dell' and go to page 17, it it shows all five supported modules and shows only CX4 to stacking.

  • Connection SAN Dell PowerConnect 6248

Our switch in our network is the Dell PowerConnect 6248. This switch has a SFP module.

I was wondering if I could use this module to connect my SAN [activeRAID 32 TB of storage active destocking] and have access to the storage as a network or NAS drive Bay.

To be more precise I'll be plugging the controller [HBA] San to the SFP module on the 624 of Dell PC via a cable Fibre Channel LC.

I'm new to SAN configuration and look for the best solution to access the storage on my network.

Everyone has implemented a San with the SFP Module before; If that set up your look like?

Fibre channel and ethernet/IP are not compatible protocols without another device that can translate. The 6248 has no support for FCoE. There are switches that support both they are called network switches convergent or unified, although generally the traffic is still separated.

  • Recovery of password on PowerConnect 3524

I hate to admit it, but I'm puzzled by the documentation and the CLI on a PC3524 whose unknown password I need to reset. I downloaded the User Guide and the CLI reference and tried the command-line help feature, but it's still not clear to me what commands I'm supposed to enter.

I a PuTTY connection upwards I restart the switch and press [3] to password recovery, after which the switch continues a SwitchName boot > prompt.

Then what? Login? With what parameters? Then what? Looks like it should be 3 or 4 orders for access me via the web console, where I can do the rest.

Anyone can facilitate this nube Dell PowerConnect CLI, providing commands I should use?

    Thank you!

Ok. Read the manual and came up with the answer. And it is here, in case it helps other nube:

After booting into recovery of password mode, these commands to the console will be resets the local 'admin' password:

  • Dell PowerConnect 2724 managed Mode reference works do not?

I recently acquired a dell powerconnect 2724 from a friend, and I can't find the web interface. I tried the default IP addresses and I looked on an application to register all IP addresses on the network, and the thing only dell was my PowerEdge R710. I made sure it was in managed mode and I tried to reset it. Suggestions?

From the factory, the PowerConnect 2708/2716/2724 units have a default IP 192.168.2.1 255.255.255.0 assigned. This IP address is assigned to the management VLAN 1. Be sure not to delete the VLAN 1 management or you will not be able to manage the switch. If the switch is unmanageable, and then change the transition to unmanaged and return to managed mode to reset the default settings.

Remember that the client attempts to access the switch is also in the 192.168.2.0 subnet. If the customer is not in the same subnet, it will be able to access the 192.168.2.1 IP address. Check and make sure that nothing else on the network also has 192.168.2.1 assigned.

    Keep us informed.
