PowerConnect 7048 Port Mirroring

Hello everyone,

I'm trying to mirror two ports on my 7048 Powerconnect switch. One of them is a Trunk Port, and the other is just a port not marked. I don't see any incoming traffic on port of destination. Is it possible a bug in the Web management interface, which does not apply this correctly?

Current firmware 4.2.2.3

Thank you

David

We can try to activate the admin mode. I couldn't find the command to do this, but in the GUI there is a drop down under the switch > ports > traffic mirror > port mirroring. Allowing and see if the behavior changes.

I am also curious to see of any change in behavior after an update of the firmware.

Thank you

    Hello

It is possible to port mirror use as a source, a SHIFT, consisting of 4 ports (2 in each Member of a set of 6248 s PowerConnect stacked). Whenever I'm trying to add the source, using GUI, I get an error:

Error! There not together "Type" with "Tx and Rx" error occurred in FILTER_MISSING

    This allusion is what filter?

I can't select a spring, unit 1 or unit 2, members of the LAG, like the gui only shows them not from the ports drop.

    Thank you.

Unfortunately, the switch is able to mirror individual ports as source ports. You can check this by trials of establishing a mirror session where the source port is not part of a LAG.

  • Port mirroring for the uplink of 10 GB of PowerConnect 6224

I need to take a copy of the traffic over a 10G fiber link. The amount of traffic on this link is less than 1 Gbps.

I am considering using the mirror port on a PowerConnect 6224 for this function. However, I don't know if port mirroring also works on the links to the top of the switch.

Anyone know if a port 10G uplink on the 6224 can be mirrored on one of the 24 Gigabit Ethernet ports?

I've been the mirror of able port of a fibre port with an Ethernet port, following the instructions on page 333 of the owner's manual.

    http://support.Dell.com/support/eDOCS/network/PC62xx/en/UCG/ucg_en.PDF

He took it and did not return any errors. But I see potential for some issues if the fiber port went above 1 Gbps.

Keep us updated and let us know what are your conclusions.

  • Problems of redundancy PowerConnect 7048

Hello! I recently put in place a network I have a problem with and need someone to go through my configs of switch and tell me if they see something that I did wrong.

The network consists of a blade M1000 - filled completely, Equalogic 2, 2 Powerconnect 7048 and 2 Powerconnect 8024-K (inside of the blade). I have everything configured for redundancy. Each server blade has 4 NIC, two are for iSCSI traffic and the other 2 are for virtual machine network traffic.

The 7048 are stacked. I got everything is configured so I can unplug all four NICS (one at a time) on a blade, and the server will remain connected to storage and the network of the VM. I can also 2 (one at a time) 8024 switch K to shoot, and servers will be connected for the storage and the network of the VM. However, when I unplug one of the 7048 s 2, or the other, I lose the storage and access to the VM network, these all the network goes down. There is a lag configured for the uplink of the 7048 to a Meraki switch, so I should be able to always pass traffic, but the network is down.

Attached are the configs of switch and a Visio diagram, I hope that someone can choose the problem immediately. My goal is a total redundancy, so when I lose a 7048 network remains standing. Thanks in advance!

I try to activate the transfer non-stop on the battery and test it again. Nonstop forwarding allows transfer of battery units plan to continue to transmit packets while the control and management of aircraft restart after a power failure, hardware failure or the software on the management of battery unit.

  • SRW2048 port mirroring

    Hello

Does anyone know the specs on port mirroring feature for Cisco SRW2048 48 - Port Gigabit Switch?

    I need to know:

1.-y there a limit to the port mirroring sessions?

2 - a target port can receive traffic from multiple ports?

    Hello Alejandro,

This switch supports only 1 session - i.e. the 1 target mirror port. SRW and EMS/EMS switches can have up to 8 ports source while SLM switches can have up to 4 ports from source. In any case, there is only one target mirror port.

    Thank you

  • vDS Port Mirroring

I am mirroring traffic of the virtual machine on a VDS.  It is mirrored traffic to physical server somewhere else in the data center.  As always, I also have a vmkernel port used for ESXi management traffic. When I create a Port of vDS session - that the interface of mirroring is the traffic opposite Let ESXi on?  The vmkernel port or virtual switch still port management ESXi virtual machine is on?  Port mirroring sessions send all data on the management port vmkernel at all?

This means that the traffic in the opposite direction will leave the ESXi management vmkernel port?

This seems to be the case and is the only way that seems logical. I mean that you have need of a few independent existing IP stack to carry the encapsulated traffic.

It is also suggested by this article:

I need each VM added to a file given in the vCenter to be added to an existing distributed switch port mirroring session.  Is this possible with PowerCLI?

The following will add the virtual machine ($vmName) to a port specific, mirror of the session ($mirrorSessionName) on a distributed switch ($dvSwName).

You can define the directions of traffic for which the virtual machine must be added with the $Ingress and $Egress variables.

  • Distributed Port Mirroring on hosts in same vDS

    Hello:

I have two hosts (esx01 and esx02) 5.5 ESXi running connected to the same vDS 5.1.  I have no problem passing traffic between virtual machines that are on different hosts and in the same port group, so I know the vDS does what it is supposed to.  Each host has 8 vmnic and vDS 8 links rising, all set to active.

However, when I install a port mirroring distributed on the vDS and choose a source port and the destination port, I get only the traffic on port of destination if the ports are on the same host.  If the source and destination are on different hosts, no mirror traffic is received.

Sort of, I worked around it by using the following https://everythingshouldbevirtual.com/vmware-vds-rspan-port-mirroring, however, that ends up giving me lots of duplicated packets when I attach to a single connection (probably the switch is to see the input/output traffic on the two vmnic of in the binding rising vDS?)  For each package, I see 8 duplicates.

But it seems to me that it should "work" without having to do anything to miss.  I also tried to look: vSphere 5.1 - VDS - Port Mirroring feature enhancements - part 3 | VMware vSphere Blog - Articles VMware., but with that it seems that are filled with separate vDS, which in this case an RSPAN makes sense to switch to pass traffic.  But in my case, it's a simple switch that is sitting between two hosts connected to the same vDS.

Thoughts or directions to guide me to the answer would be greatly appreciated!

    Josh

    Hello jmapt,

    Please note the following:

    Page 152:

Distributed Port Mirroring:  Mirror of packages of a certain number of ports distributed to other ports on the same host. If the source and destination are on different hosts, this type of session does not work.

    And:

    vMotion compatibility:

Port mirroring between ports distributed may be local. If the source and destination are on different hosts as a result of vMotion, mirroring between them will not work. However, if the source and destination are moving to the same host, port mirroring works.

    http://pubs.VMware.com/vSphere-55/topic/com.VMware.ICbase/PDF/vSphere-ESXi-vCenter-Server-551-Networking-Guide.PDF

Good vDS seems to essentially be a single switch is not. The control plan is unique and is driven by vCenter but the real data plan in at the host level, and each host has its own data plan for the vDS. So the underlying terms of data are they different switch running on different hosts.

  • ESXi 5 port mirroring (possible)?

    Hi all:

Is it possible to configure port mirroring on a virtual switch on ESXi 5? I heard that the feature is supported on vSphere.

I want to mirror traffic between guest so OS between ESXi instances

  • PowerConnect 5448 Port lights flash up to 10 times per second in unison

The ports on our PowerConnect 5448 switch lights flash very quickly in unison.  We use this switch to an office network.  No servers or computers are available on the network.  We believe that this was due to a power failure which resulted in a failure with our internet connection.  We have restored power to the modem and restarted the firewall because it was out.  Then, we noticed the lights on the switch.  We have manually operated switch PC 5448 and then turned it back.  The switch always shows the same problem.  We can connect directly to a modem, so we know that we have internet.  It seems that something is wrong with the switch because of the flashing lights of port.

In addition, the admin user and the password to connect to the switch are lost, so we cannot see what is happening.

There is a port of the console to the back of the switch. Connect to the port console and you will have access to the CLI. Once connected to the CLI it should give an idea of what's going on.

  • 8024F Port Mirroring not capture all traffic

We have a router plugged into port Te1/0/21, that all our WAN traffic comes in our data center.  We have duplication of port configured to mirror Te1/0/22 of this port.

control interface of destination session Te1/0/22 1
control the source session interface 1 Te1/0/21

We have a Sourcefire traffic monitoring device and when I do a tcpdump for this interface I see only ARP, STP and the interface of the switch http connections.

We have mirrored on a N3024 that works very well for a different router.

The 8024F is stacked with an another 8024F via ports 4 fibre first.  8 other ports on the 2 switches have fiber connections, then we have 7 fiber for rj45 connectors in each switch connect the CAT5e cable with other devices.  21-24 ports, we use the rj45 ports rather than the fiber on each switch port.

    The switch firmware is 4.2.2.3.

Try adding this line to the config and see if it helps.

session mode 1 #monitor console (config)

  • Aggregation of links between Powerconnect 7048 battery and battery S55 Force 10

    Hi all

I'm trying to connect a battery 7048 with a stack of S55 (2 switches in each stack). I would use two ports (one on each switch) each battery to connect to each other. Can someone help me with the configuration of this please? I guess I'd go with LACP in this situation?

If orders to fill what could be made, it would be much appreciated.

    Thank you, Carl.

On the 7048, placing the ports in a SHIFT with LACP looks like this:

Console (config) # interface gigabitethernet 0/1/2

    Console (config-if) active in mode channel-group 1 #.

    Console (config-if) output.

Console (config) # interface gigabitethernet 0/2/2

    Console (config-if) active in mode channel-group 1 #.

    Console (config-if) output.

    Console (config) # interface port-channel 1

    Console (Config-if-PO1) #.

And then configure the port channel but you need.

  • PowerConnect 2824 Ports SFP does not

We bought a new switch 2824 with a corresponding to SFP module replace old 2724 PowerConnect and SFP module.

After the configuration of the switch and installing it, we were able to get a connection on our uplinked to fiber.
SFP light illuminates and flashes from time to time, and the switch detects correctly module SFP is inserted and that the fiber is connected.  We can see the insertion of the SFP is detected and the switch for change of fiber mode by looking at the output of the console, and the web administration port status page lists the port as "ComboF" when the SFP is inserted and the fiber is connected.

However, the switch always indicates that the port State is down.  (The port is not administratively disabled.)

The old switch works very well with the old SFP module.  The new switch does not work with the old or the new module SFP.  We tried two combo SFP ports.  We also checked that the fiber itself is fine. We cannot get the new switch to display the drop-down list port status that up when you use the SFP. We tried to completely reset the new switch by removing the configuration file via the boot over the serial connection menu and re-run the initial configuration wizard, but the port still won't go up.

    Any ideas?

After a few tests yesterday, we determined that part of auto-negotiation must be disabled for switch work with our copper and fiber Media converters.

The 2724 works very well with our media converters, with auto-negotiation enabled.

The 2824 works very well with auto-negotiation enabled when it is connected to an another SFP transceiver in building switch.

But when we introduce the Media Converter in the path, the 2824 will bring only the link up if you disable auto-negotiation.

    So far, everything looks good.
