  Hi all

  Recently, I replaced a non redundant power supply on my Dell Poweredge R410. During troubleshooting, I also temporarily removed the battery from the system at any given time.

  The server is back up and running, but when booting, I get:

  "The 4 fan speed can change in installation configuration feature and the option card systems

  Press F1 to continue, F2 to run the configuration utility.

  I think that some BIOS setting reset to remove the battery? I also see a lot of forum posts mentioning the cause of this error is the integrated SATA is connected to anything.

  My hard drives are connected to a PERC via the PCI slot, and the machine has an optical drive. I don't see the existence of the optical drive in omreport.

  Here are a few outlets omreport about SATA settings.

  SATA port 0: Auto
  SATA port 1: Off
  SATA port 2: stop
  SATA port 3: Off
  SATA port 4: Off

  Any advice on how to go about this debugging more?

  Yes, it is possible that the optical drive is defective. Check the logs of equipment. Also enter the system BIOS setup using the F2 key and search for devices listed as unknown.

  I have a few questions on VMware Infrastructure.

  I use two hosts ESXi with ESXi 5.0.Dont have Vcenter Server.

  1. can I update H/W version of virtual machines without Update Manager or Vcenter Server. Y at - there a patch available to update the Version of virtual machines?

  Should I update ESXi host first 5.0 to 5.1, and then update the hardware version of the virtual machines.

  2. I get as a GROUP in a file server (Dell PowerEdge R410) was attached.it happened 7 times before, in the last 3 months.

  Please guide me for these issues.

  To add to above, make sure you have the latest version of the tools VM installed on your comments before the upgrade virtual hardware.

  You can also patch your host without Update Manager - download patches, copy them to the host and run it from the DCUI;

  software esxcli vib install path_to_bundle.zip d

• Dell PowerEdge R410 sliding ready Rails - no connector CMA inside the rail

  I have a second hand that came with Dell R410 sliding ready rails which is mounted in a rack in my 22u rack.  I just bought a new MAC for her, but I found that the outside rails have the ears to fix the MAC (and the support leg), the inner rails that the R410 attaches to did not sense that the arms attach.

  Is someone can confirm if the ready rails to the R410 have ears for the inner rail and if yes, someone has the part number?

  If anyone can take a picture of them if possible that would be great.

  I was wondering if I can use a Quadro with my R410? The card says it has a pci-e slot, but I imagine that there are some other limiting factors that I don't know. Does anyone know if it will work?

  Hello.

  The R410 server does not support the addition of GPU cards. This is just a possibility that they may (not) work and if they worked, you are bound to face issues related to the speed of the fans, boot, POST etc.

  Here are the minimum expenditure for the R410:

  • Risers
  • CPU1 (minimum for troubleshooting)
  • Radiator for CPU1 to prevent overheating
  • 1 DIMM for CPU1
  • Power supply
  • Control Panel
  • Motherboard
  • Power distribution Board

  Looks like you can miss the risers.

• A Poweredge R410 with wired readers maybe upgrading to support hot by adding a H200 controller and backplane hot?

  I'm buying a R410 used to use domestic and it's Wired, not hot-plug/swap hard drive configuration.   While this is not a HUGE, hot concern is more pleasant.   Looking at the photos of chassis (and system maintenance manual, I can't tell if it is possible to convert the hotswap cable configuration.   Is it possible to do, assuming that I buy the bottom of basket, platters of hard drive and a controller H200?

  I agree, it's a ruthless design and we apologize for the inconvenience. I do not think your missing something and you have clearly identified the limit down to a physical problem chassis to adapt. As indicated, it an experiment to the best of what we had to spend. I can not recommend changes to chassis that I don't know what else could happen or that it would be a good fit.  It would be completely up to you to continue experimenting, but I suggest calling it a valiant effort and return the parts.

  2 years due to a disk hard failure we have replaced both the physical drive connected to the raid controller.

  Were the previous hd 500 GB in size the actual hd are 1 TB each. We have two 40 GB partition and one of 422 and 465 GB unallocated.

  We have the following 4 questions:

  (1) which is the correct procedure to enlarge the first and the second partition?

  (2) do we have to change the size of the raid controller hd, tool system or a tool of third party software (if any third party software tool, please recommend one)?

  (3) there is no precautions, that we must apply (backup, copy hd picture, etc.)?

  (4) ca we have technical support by phone during the procedure?

• PowerEdge R410 new RAID boot issue

  We have an R410 on which I'm trying to install a new RAID 6 with 4 new SAS drives. However, after the configuration of the RAID on the PERC 6 / i BIOS utility, I have the "OK" tab, and immediately, the LEDs blink amber on all readers. Utility, the new VD shows as offline and under the physical disks, all readers say FAILURE.

  All four discs are brand new. I tried to configure the RAID with the PERC BIOS utility and the interface of the USC, but with the same exact results. Lights are green and seems good RAID settings are applied, how all four disks have flashing orange LED. Once booted to the Server 2008 r2 installation disk, Windows does not see the disks.

  Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

  Hi Jeff,

  Thanks for the update.  It can very well be a problem of compatibility of drive.  I'm not saying you cannot use non-certified Dell disks, because there are a lot of clients that do. It's just that we cannot tell you the expected behavior of Dell not certified, we are able to solve effectively because of communication problems with the controller.  Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't.  I've seen them work but with weird errors on the controller log.

  You better bet to make sure that the controller in question is not faulty by entering a known well certified readers and test it by creating some temporary VD.

  For updates of the platform, you can also try to configure your network via the menu of USC and make updates to the platform by hitting the source ftp.dell.com. Followed by the option of operating system deployment. If your lifecycle Controller (LCC) is updated, it should work well for system updates and operating system installs.
