PowerEdge R710 E2011 memory configuration error

I have a question that has me running around in circles.

I'm the filling of a PE R710 server with 1 GB 1Rx8 PC3 - 10600E DIMMs, which works very well when the first two DIMM slots are filled for each channel. However, when I fill the third slot DIMM in any channel, I get the E2011 Memory Configuration error.

I've already updated the system board BIOS to version 6.4 and still get this error.

Can anyone out there tell me how to fix this?

Thank you!

Pripley,

Based on what you say, it seems that the question you are running in is due to the DIMM you are populating the server, that sound as if they are UDIMM. With UDIMM, as well as Quad DIMMS, you are limited to 2 DIMMs per channel. At the bottom of page 129 of the present manual, you see this limitation.

Let me know if that answers your question about the memory problem, or if you have Rdimms and see this.

Hi, we need to upgrade memory on our R710s. trying to find recommendations for configuring optimal memory for gen 11 servers without losing the memory speed. Came across a doc 2009, saying that we can not go beyond 1 DIMM per channel to 2 RDIMMs x without dropping speed to 1066. I'm sure that, after the updates to the BIOS, than the limit went from 1 to 2 DIMMs per channel. Can anyone confirm or share a most recent doc? Thanks in advance.

    Hello.

The speed of the memory of each channel depends on the memory configuration. Yes, with the BIOS update as of May 15, 2009; Memory only rank and dual-rank modules supports up to 1333 MHz speed. See General information below.

    • Modules memory single or double-row:

      • One module of memory per channel supports up to 1333 MHz.
      • Two modules of memory per channel supports up to 1066 MHz. (review of BIOS on May 15, 2009, support was added for two modules per channel at 1333 MHz speed.)
      • Three modules of memory through are limited to 800 MHz, regardless of the speed of add-on memory.
    • For modules of memory Quad-rows:
      • One module of memory per channel supports up to 1066 Mhz.
      • Two modules of memory through are limited to 800 MHz, regardless of the speed of add-on memory.

If the memory modules with different speeds are installed, they won't work at the speed of the modules slower memory.

    I tried

    C1, D1 - C5, D5

who should be the best according to the manual also, but it gives even the same question. Can someone tell me please how to configure this option to solve this problem?

    Thank you

    Riazansary,

A couple of things that I see that would need to be clarified. What about processors, how you have installed? If you indeed have 4 processors installed, then the minimum number of DIMMS that you can use is 16, as it is necessary to have 4 DIMMS per processor. If you use 2 CPUs (1, 2) then the population would be 4 - A1 and B1 - 4. Table 3-2 on page 94 covers this, it shows that the minimum number of DIMM slots for 2 processors is 8 and 16 for 4 processors. - http://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_ser_stor_net/esuprt_poweredge/poweredge-r815_Owner%27s%20Manual_en-us.pdf

  • Memory support for the Poweredge R710 speed

The Dell Poweredge R710 supports up to 1600 MHz memories? As [manufacturer: SNP20D6FC / 16G |] [Dell Part #: A6994465] is compatible with R710?

    Osmanhamid,

Frequency of memory in servers are affected by a number of factors, including; Speed DIMMS and CPU and memory configuration.

    R710 server supports:

    1. Speed up to 1333 MHz for one module of memory through
    2. Speed up to 1066 MHz for both modules of memory through
    3. Speed up to 800 MHz for three modules of memory per channel. All these speeds correspond to memory single or double modules. Therefore, the speed of 1600 MHz will be down-clocked at a speed suitable depending on the configuration.

Hello, maybe someone can help. I have a Dell R720 which had to restart Windows updates, once its been a bit problematic in that it sits on the configuration of the memory for about 20 minutes. Last night it never comes not beyond that.

I read on a forum that it could be a driver of KVM switch problem?

I also read that you can press ESC after publication and which will bypass this, problem, the server is a domain controller and nobody is there.

    Someone knows something similar?

  • PowerEdge R710 24GO of RAM 40 GB upgrade

    Hello

Our PowerEdge R710 has 2 processor E5620 and 24 GB of RAM (6 x 4GB Dual Rank registered synchronous DDR3 1333 MHz). The memory is set to optimizer mode and uses the memory following media:

    • A1
    • A2
    • A3
    • B1
    • B2
    • B3

In the next 12 hours we want to add 4 x 4 GB of additional RAM (modules) so that we have 40 GB of RAM instead of 24 GB. The owner's manual gives only configurations for 32 or 48 GB RAM. What should be used? The following configuration is correct?

    • A1
    • A2
    • A3
    • A4
    • A5
    • B1
    • B2
    • B3
    • B4
    • B5

    M., accommodation,

    With the configuration of the CPU, as well as the existing configuration, you would not be able to add 4 DIMMS to 4 GB. Either you need to add 6 2 DIMM 4 GB or 4 GB DIMMS. It will be because of the rule of memory you must also complete 3 memory channels. With this said beening DIMMs would be met as one of the following values;

Addition of 6 4 GB DIMMS (two results in 48 GB)

    A1, A4, A7, A2, A5 and A8 / B1, B4, B7, B2, B5 and B8

    or

    A1, A4, A2, A5, A3 and A6 / B1, B4, B2, B5, B3 and B6

Addition of 2 4 GB DIMM

    A1, A2 and A4, A5 / B5, B2, B1 and B4

Let me know if this helps to clarify.

  • Connect a Powervault MD1200 to a PowerEdge R710 5.1 running esx using SAS cables

    Hello

    I bought a Powervault md1200 and a perc h800 controller.

I'll install the perc controller in my PowerEdge r710 5.1 running esx server.

Then connect the md1200 to the r710 via sas cables. The powervault is no NIC.

My question is, how to configure the RAID while booting the r710? I understand that if I were on Windows, I could use open manage but I'm not familiar with how to do this from a 5.1 esx server.

    I'd appreciate any help.

    Thank you

    Flynn

    Hello Flynn,

What you need to do is to go into the Bios of your H800 controller and you can then configure your virtual disk MD1200.  Once you have the virtual disk created, then you will be able to do a scan in ESX & he should see the virtual disk that are created.  To access the boot controller bios you need to hit Ctrl + C to enter the bios.

I have a PowerEdge R710 server and try to configure startup when the main switch in case 19 "is turned on. No chance, there is no option in the BIOS. It is possible at all?

    WK77,

In the BIOS to the title of the SECURITY of the SYSTEM, you have AC POWER RECOVERY. If you set that on IT and programming your waiting time if desired, and then the will to power server when it has power restored to it.

I would like to know if that's what you were talking about.

The only documentation I found was Dell PowerEdge RAID Controller cards H700 and H800 Technical Guide but it says nothing about the configuration of the table I can find. Is there documentation for a complete reconstruction of this server?

  • R715 not Optimal Memory Configuration

    Hello

We have a bunch (35 ish) R715s all configured exactly the same. Each with two CPUs of AMD and the factory had modules memory 8 x 2 GB (1Rx8 PC3L-10600E-09-10-D0) inside.

Recently, I wanted to test the addition of extra ram. So, I bought 8 x 4 GB ram (2Rx4 PC3-10600R-9-10-E1). It is based on manuals Dells and determinative webpage about what would accept this server. When you try to install the ram here are the scenarios and what happens:

    (1) add 8 new modules for the empty slots of 'Black '. The machine does not start just buzzing.

    (2) take the 8 old modules out of the 'White' slots and REPLACE them with 8 new modules. It starts, but says "WARNING: the installed memory configuration is not optimal.  However, the bios reads 32 GB of ram.

    (3) take it down to only 4 modules (new modules). Set as described in 'A1, B1, A2, B2' slot machines. Same message "not optimal" appears and reads the 16 GB of ram.

I also made sure that I am under the latest firmware available. Can you please explain what I'm doing wrong and my best option for ram I have?

    Linxxs,

Sorry you are having memory problems with the server. The first question that you see, which once try to mix modules DIMM, is that new modules DIMM was purchased are Rdimms. The original DIMM, you have on the server are UDIMM, which Rdimms and UDIMM cannot be mixed in the same system. That's why you see the post No..

Now, when you install only the 4 GB Rdimms, the reason for the error "Not optimal" is that with the R715 with dual rank Rdimms, best would be 1333 mhz DIMM, where the rdimms 4 GB you ordered are at 1066 mhz. Now, these bars will work in the server, but is not optimal, where the error.

Just a note side when examining options, with unique access, you are limited to only 2 GB DIMMS, in order to extend it to allow only allows you to add several DIMMs of 2 GB. With double access, you can run as is, but will be the error, or you can swap in DIMM 1333 mhz modules.

Just a few things to consider.

Let me know if it helps.
