  I had the same experience in trying to follow the steps of the OverDrive.

  

  I managed to get the upgrade by following the steps in this document.  Step 1 has a protected DRM file that you can play using Windows Media Player.  If missing the upgrade, since the upgrade button was grayed out on the site, you will receive a pop-up window to upgrade the DRM.  This should be the upgrade which does not work on the site.  Just make sure to play using Windows Media Player as my default player has been set up for a different program and it does not work.

  WMP always updates the library for a few seconds at the start, it's quite normal. Here, update means that new files will be added, no existing files will be deleted and the news of the changed files will be updated.
