Preview of Windows 8 consumers: AMD Switchable Graphics - Unswitchable

Hi all

I have a HP Pavilion dv6-6004tx laptop and I recently upgraded to the consumer preview Windows 8 (Build 8250). I wish that some troubleshooting those who have / are affected by this and may have found a way around it.

Insofar as the specifications of my computer is:

Intel Core i7-2720QM

6 GB DDR3 RAM

64-bit operating system

AMD Radeon HD 6700M

Family of Intel graphics

The problem in my display drivers. Some of you may also have a Switchable Graphics feature that is installed in your computer. But for those who do not, basically, what it is is a feature that allows to switch the display adapter to a GPU to save energy to a GPU performance and vice versa.

In my case, as you can see above, the GPU performance is the Radeon 6700 M, while the GPU to save energy is the integrated Intel one. My problem with not being able to switch back and forth, as if I was able to come back on Windows 7. As it is a feature of AMD Catalyst Control Center, I searched their site and they actually have a version of supported driver for Windows 8 CP, although still in beta and sometimes glitch.

http://support.AMD.com/us/KbArticles/pages/Windows8ConsumerPreviewDrivers.aspx

(As you can see, my model: AMD Radeon HD 6000 M Series is listed)

I rebooted after installing the control center, and a popup notifcation tells me that:

"The Catalyst Control Center is not supported by the version of the driver for your compatible graphics card. Please update your graphics driver from AMD, or activate your card AMD using the display manager. »

I found this curious at first, my model was clearly indicated. But after an inference, I realized that my computer needs to run on the Intel integrated graphics by default. This has been further strengthened when I tried to play a few games and other applications (it would be a bit rough - also experienced before when I forgot to switch on GPU performance).

The graphics card AMD Radeon used to have a mistake (the unit does not start. Code: 10) in the Manager of devices, but with a new installation of the driver got to AMD, it seems to work very well. However, my computer is still using the default Intel card, and I have no way to switch to the other GPU as catalyst will not start.

Has anyone found a way around this?

I'll give you a way to make it work!  He has listed there so many incompatibilities with the FIRST METHOD , you will not get use an Intel (less power consumption card) GPU to work after the changes! You have to wait until HP allows him to work properly or deal with the thirst for energy GPU AMD even in battery mode.

THE SECOND METHOD listed works without any problems with the compatibility of all the apps BUT it IS demand the pace and order (can be comprehensive for beginners, no worries listed below has got all the information you need to make it work)

IF the first option:

NOTE: THIS WILL TRIGER OUTCONTROL EVENTS SO AS A PRECAUTION METHODS I RECOMMEND IN ADDITION AS WE GO STEP BY STEP _ DOWNLOAD CHROME IF RUNNING INTERNET EXPLORE (GRAPHICS CARD WORKS WITH THE GAMES BUT NOT WITH APPLICATIONS METRO THEY WON'T CRASH NOT JUST SE NOT LAUNCH)

ALL METHODS BELOW TESTED BY MYSELF AND HAVE WORKED YET MUCH INCOMPATIBILIES WILL ALWAYS USE IT AT YOUR OWN RISK!

I know all the games work properly battlefield 3 is yet to launch

1 AT first make sure that windows UPDATE IS SWITCH OFF or let you choose to download and install (not automatically or it will update your device (in Device Manager) without your permission and all efforts are gone!

2 uninstall AMD Catalyst "program and components" in Control Panel, and then uninstall all Intel and AMD devices in Device Manager in the control panel (unistal check pilot to pilot intel HD)

3.reboot! After the restart, download this http://www2.ati.com/drivers/hotfix/win8/amd_catalyst_win8_consumer_preview _ [rc10] .exe

and this

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp53001-53500/sp53025.exe - 300 MB

4. install sp53025.exe in windows compatibility mode 7 (it will unpack in C:/SWsetup by default)

then start the istalation make sure that u choose a "custom", THIS IS CRUCIAL - uncheck the CATALYST (check all the rest intell driver amd driver ect.) do not restart after the instalation

5. then start the instalation of windows 8 consumer driver overview of AMD.

Uncheck everything (after that the sp53025 it will be only the AMD (check/uncheck) driver and catalyst box (check/uncheck) available) uncheck the AMD driver and install the driver CATALYST only!

Reset! Enjoy! There is no CATALYST (only preference of intel and the settings where the CATALYST should be) click the mouse but switchable graphics is now awailable LIKE THIS

Unfortunately you won't be available to choose between the INTEL and AMD! AMD now works by default

All the .exe now recognizes 6770 m

AND METRO APPS WON ' T WORK! AS internet explore will crash as you will open it

SECOND METHOD, IF THE FIRST FAILS (WHICH IS IMPOSSIBLE IF THE HANDS ARE MORE OR LESS STRAIGHT)

IS PROVEN!

THIS METHOD EXCLUDES THE SUBWAY APPS CRASH AND ALL INCOMPATIBILITIES REST WITH ALL PROGRAMS EXECUTABLES AND GAMES!

Note: Requires knowledge to sign your own drivers, disable the application to start signing and modding some inf files.
I am not responsible for any damages that may occur. This guide is not exhaustive.

Requirements:

  • .NET framework 3.5 - can be activated in Windows 8, in "Turn Windows features on or off".
  • Windows Driver Kit (WDK) - Can be downloaded from here
  • Configure Windows Update to only "download updates but let me choose weather to install' and hide updates from Intel and AMD. This is to prevent our updated driver by Windows.

1. download the latest switchable graphics drivers from this site: leshcat IT blog tips & tricks: catalyst 12.3 Pre-WHQL UNIFIL for Switchable Graphics

2. run the Setup program that will extract the content of the file, by default it will ask you to turn off "Signature enforcement of Windows", you will know that it does not work after restarting as a "Test Mode" watermark is added to the desktop, "Windows 8 preview of consumption."

3. at this moment, do not run Setup AMD yet. We need to modify some files. By default, the driver will be extracted for "C:\Drivers\Catalyst 12.3 Pre - WHQL UNIFIL".

4. go to this directory and open the file after "Packages\Drivers\Display\W76A_INF\C7133662.inf".

Make the following changes:
In the [Version] section, add:

I use Windows 8 starting November 1, 2013. I'm waiting for the compatible driver AMD 10 months already.

  • Upgrade to Windows 10 & option lost switchable graphics card

Sorry if this has been discussed before. I looked for a solution for the last hour, and I don't have much time today. I need to solve this problem as soon as possible. My problem was when I upgraded to Windows 10 on my laptop Windows 8.1 Y40-70. This laptop has the video card Radeon R9. After you have installed Windows 10. I lost the option when I right click on the desktop, the option "switchable graphics card. The laptop detects only the Intel version in the map.

Is there a solution for this yet? Thank you

    SOLVED

Found a link to the beta version of Catalyst Control Manager. It worked.

  • Not available after a Windows 7 install own switchable Graphics

    Hello

I had to clean install Windows 7 due to a problem that I created in the first place. In any case, everything works fine, except for the Radeon graphics card.

I own a HP Pavilion g6-1279sl Notebook. It is supposed to have an Intel HD Graphics 3000 and an AMD Radeon HD6470M.

I installed the latest version of Catalyst driver and when I right click on the desktop, it says "switchable graphics", but if I click on it, it shows me just another option of the catalyst, HydraGrid.

Using a tool that shows what video card is currently running, I noticed that, even when I'm running games, the graphics card Intel's works, giving a whole worse performance that the Radeon should give. I mean, the Radeon never works. I also tried to disable the Intel of the Device Manager (I think it's called like that, I have a portable Italian), and there have been problems because of the card Radeon runs does not correctly.

The BIOS is updated and no other choices don't worry we Switchable Graphics.

Is this what can I do to access the feature back?

Also, I'm kind of a newbie, then I want you to be clear in the explanation of things me!

    Thank you

Sorry if I happen to reproduce an old post, but I have not found a solution in messages older.

Hope you can lend a hand,

    Ruben Tura.

    Hello:

The only driver that you can install is the AMD driver page driver and and care of your laptop.

Uninstall the graphic drivers you have installed (AMD and Intel) and only use this one...

    http://h10025.www1.HP.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-99756-1&cc=us&DLC=en&LC=en&OS=4063&product=5173421&sw_lang=

You are unable to update Intel or AMD graphics drivers individually, or switchable graphics will not work.

You cannot use the drivers supplied by AMD or Intel Web site.

Support page and the driver of your laptop is a driver made on order and unfortunately, it is not updated.

But it's the only one that you can use if you want the chart to work properly.

    Hello:

There is no graphics card AMD switchable for my model, even with a BIOS update.  That is right.

Or is it still be grayed out as in the current state.  That is right. An update of the BIOS will do nothing to allow you to change the graphic memory settings.  Everything will be grayed out as before.

So if I overload a game settings, from the middle to the extreme, this means that most of the 3 GB memory graphics will be allocated to catch the game? Or even will not use the 737 MB dedicated?   The laptop will initially use all the dedicated memory.  If that wasn't enough, he will then consume the maximum (2.4 GB) memory system available and put it to the chart.

  • Is it possible to update preview of windows 8 consumers to widows 8.1 with license without any skills?

OK, so probally a lot of people ask to our... but I have a problem. IM always on windows 8 preview of consumers (you know, this free version) and I want legit upgrade to windows 8.1 what can I do? After payment for upgrade I need any qualifications (such as entering the bios files and formatting hard drive)?

Or is just an application that is updated you system?

Thanks in advance... (if this is not the right section application please tell)

    -Adrian

    Dear friend,

    Unfortunately, this is not possible.

Windows 8 Preview of consumer is not an operating system, it's just a pack of transformation (theme) to resemble windows 8.

So, you cannot update preview before consumption.

BUT, you can upgrade your existing operating system.

If you use Windows 7, Xp or something else. Check here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-in/windows/buy

(you have to buy Windows 8... Then you can FREELY set to windows 8.1...)

Windows 8 will be automatically updated to windows 8.1

There is no technical skills not necessary to a friend, he just insert your dvd... & start your development process :)

    All the best :)

  • Windows 8 on AMD Radeon graphics card is not completely fill the screen

Just installed Windows 8 Pro on a Dell Inspiron Zino HD with an AMD Radeon HD 4300 Series.

Display is a LG on HDMI monitor.

Installation went well apart from my screen Windows does not fill my entire screen.  I don't think it's something to do with the resolution of the screen, it's just the way that 'image' does not fill the screen correctly.

    Hello

Did you install these legacy AMD official drivers?
There is also a setting in the Catalyst Control Center associated with overscan (he has a slider).
This one should expand your image to fill the edges of the screen.

  • AMD/Intel Graphics switchable and upgrade to Windows 8

    Hello world

I know that many HP Pavilion DV6T-6100 Quad Edition Entertainment laptop owners might consider the upgrade to the new Windows 8 operating system platform. DON'T DO IT!

I just bought and installed the official version of Windows 8 Pro o my laptop Pavilion DV6T, which came with Windows 7 pre-installed. I had followed the whole windows 8 preview of the incompatibility issues with the graphics driver fiasco switchable HP for some time. I decided to wait to install the official version of the new OS when it was released on October 26, 2012. I bought and applied the upgrade of Windows 7 to Windows 8 last night.

I thought I'd call HP this morning to find out when they have planned out an official HP Switchable Graphics driver update to resolve incompatibility issues that many HP users have experienced after the upgrade to Windows 8.

    • They've said, in no uncertain terms, "they have a driver available for this problem, but switchable graphic users would have to pay $200 for the reader and have their technical support engineers to apply."
    • He also told me, "HP has no plan to release an update to the free rider problem, so anyone who decided to upgrade to Windows 8 will have to pay support of $200 to fix."
    • I got also said, "my warranty does not cover this update, not being hardware related and related software."

I paid over $1,200 USD for my laptop model HP Pavilion DV6T-6100 CTO, less than a year ago. Switchable graphics on this laptop was actually a selling point for me, as well as many other owners DV6T. I find it a very irresponsible business move for HP handle that many of their customers in this way. No other manufacturer of the laptop charges their customers for updates, while their product is still under warranty. I work in it and I'll make sure that the HP brand is avoided by everyone that I know in the future. HP has ceased to be one of the best manufacturers of PC, regarding their support for the customer, to be the ABSOLUTE WORST!

Every computer I've ever owned was a HP, but I will never buy another PC of this society, ever! It is a promise that will be preserved.

Switchable graphics users per HP: HP has a compatible driver Windows 8 update available, but it will cost $200 more than the price you already paid for your computer and its security.

    Hello Asebeba,

My solution to the problem is neith, supported or recommended by HP.

It is well known that HP released several categories of patterns DV6t. It seems that they knew they were going to get rid of the graphical configuration AMD/Intel switchable by the end of November 2011. Which is a not keep from seeling as of soon to become obsolete DV6t models that have been do with the soon outdated AMD/Intel graphic switchable setting possible. However they they built a little more of these models after their passage of OEM to Microsft Windows 8.

This means that it has supported HP DV6t systems with AMD Switchable graphics, which came the same factories that built our systems, but are running Windows 8. These systems have newer versions of the AMD HD drivers that where fate to the DV6t users whose system supplied with Windows 7 pre-installed.  What are these systems including switchable graphics are incompatible with the 'NEW' Windows 8 and windows 8.1 operating system platforms.

I could give you the exact name of the HP driver for your switchable graphics special configuration that would work flawlessly on your system, but wouldn't you get anything good for me to do. Because of Windows 7 HP Framework installed on your system. You still have questions, try installing updates later than those offered by HP.  HP would also remove any meantion that I would do whatever it is that they offer and which did not come with your system.

    SP59850

As far as I know the latest AMD/Intel driver is offered by HP which works with systems built by them with Windows 8 x 64 bit preinstalled.

Merger of Treexy pilot would be required to uninstall all previous versions of display drivers that you have on your system.

You would also need to disable the Windows 8 and 8.1 automatic update of device functionality. (Go to: settings/PC Info / Protection of the system / hardware / device settings)

    Once there,

Select: "no, let me choose what to do."

Select: "never install driver from Windows Update"

Apply also to the: Action Center settings (settings / control panel / Action Center / change Action Center settings)

Deselect "Device Software" (Yo can also deselect 'Windows Update')

Do not worry! Is not disable Windows Update function. It simply avoids messages from receiviing to update your display drivers that work very well. Do these two things also get rid of this triangle of peskyyellow that appears on your display drivers in Device Manager.

Unistall old drivers display and software. Then, install the latest version of Windows 8 of the package AMD/Intel HD Graphics Driver availible for your particular display configuration. I will also not allow HP Support Center to automatically install the device drivers on your system at this time. In addition, most systems that encounter this issue with display drivers and windows 8 are no longer under warranty anyway.

You will have no additional problems running, use or configuration of your HP AMD/Intel graphics switchable on your, shortly after you bought, card HP DV6t system with AMD/Intel switchable graphics.

No Beta Leshcat driver not required to use the only feature you spent all that money for.

  • Switchable Graphics (AMD Radeon HD 7670) problem in Hp Pavilion g6 2305tx-windows 8.1

    Hello

I would like to draw your kind attension to this serious problem, which I do face with AMD Mobility Radeon HD7670 driver for windows 8.1

I use Hp pavilion 2305tx g6 that has double graphics. I bought it 6 months ago and it cost about 60 grand in Bangladesh.

I was using Windows 7 and everything was fine. I could play every game I want, but after upgrade to 8.1 window, I am facing this switchable graphics problem. Device manager shows that driver was installed correctly but when I go to high performance for any game, it (game) is not responding but game can start without any problem in IE graphics Intel HD 4000 I cannot use my dedicated graphics card which I bought this laptop!

Here too, no driver to blueooth. Specifically the driver Ralink RT 3290 Bluetooth. I found the driver for this hardware, but not suitable for windows 8.1. Okey BT is not a big problem, but what about the graphics driver? What is Hp? sleep? Where the drivers updated for Windows 8.1? How long I have to wait? As I brought it BDT 60 grand I have right to ask for updated driver and I want to that they as soon as POSSIBLE.

Again, I chart AMD Radeon HD 7670 in my laptop and driver is correctly installed, but every time I spend my graphics to high performance I cann't play any game. It's because I'm not have good drivers for Windows 64-bit os 8.1.

I've been looking for this driver for months, but I don't get a updated driver for AMD mobility radeon 7670.

Please, I beg you! publish drivers for windows 8.1 updated 64-bit os.

The problem is resolved. It took 6 months but in the end I finally thought to her

    Follow the steps precisely

    1. open this Pc or workstation then go to uninstall or change a program

2 appears in the list, you can see graphics driver Intel & AMD Catalyst install manager. You must uninstall both in express mode so that no other previous parameter no longer exists.

    3. Firstly, uninstall the Intel Graphics driver. If you are asked for a restart of the pc to go for it.

    4. that the list appears, you can see AMD Catalyst install manager, right click and uninstall in express mode. Uninstall all components of AMD. Restart your PC because you will be asked.

    5. go on this Pc or my PC and then drive C. open Program Files and Program Files (x 86) the two of them, if you use the 64-bit operating system. In the search box write AMD and you find some removal files remaining them all.

    6. now your PC is free of previous records and other files. Although the right, click on sign Windows and Device Manager. You'll see graphic cards and uninstall both. This step is not necessary, but just to be sure that your PC has not previously installed drivers.

    7. open your browser and download the latest graphics driver for your PC Intel. My driver was Win64_153322. Install it. If you install it correctly you're at half way through. Restart your PC, if she needs.

8 go to the AMD web site and download the latest version of the driver. To avoid the complexity best option is to download Autodetect. Because he will choose the best suitable driver for your system. The file name is amddriverdownloader.

    9. open the amddriverdownloader file and download the driver. Download will end and it will automatically start the installation. Install it in express mode. Restart your PC because you will be asked to do.

    10. I hope your driver problems will be solved. To check it out go to Device Manager and see if the drivers are installed properly. Turn on the CCC and try to play a game of High Performance. You will see that the problem is solved.

Here's how I solved my problem of graphics from AMD. I've been suffering since I installed Windows 8.1 right after being released and today 15 Jun 14, I solved the problem. I can play any game in now high performance.

If you think that my opinion is useful to you, please share it.

  • Windows 8 Switchable Graphics Support for AMD Mobility Radeon and 1st Gen Core i5 Intel Graphics

Since I've upgraded to Windows 8 my graphics did not work at all (only the work aside Intel). This is a problem because it seems that my HDMI port is plugged directly into my ATI card and with it disabled I can't play half of my games or make use of my HDMI port. I contacted AMD and have tried all their drivers but nothing has worked for the past 3 months. They said that, because Intel is a competitor, the manufacturer must release these new driver updates to manage the two cards. I couldn't find anything to help me with this and I am planning to switch brands because it has been a frustrating experience for me. In addition, I can not install AMD Catalyst Control Center because for some reason it does not recognize my card. If you guys could help me find a solution to this problem or point me in the right direction would be great. Thank you.

    Hi Matt,

I don't think that HP will develop Windows 8 drivers for your model, but you can try the switchable graphics avaiable to measure on the following link - I would suggest that you read the guide on how to install these drivers correctly.  It is also important to note that the driver signature enforcement is disabled so that these drivers to load, - more details can be found here.

    Hello

I just installed Windows 8 and switchable graphics does not work on the system. The most annoying is that I can't use the radeon graphics card, because the stop system it works.

I've attached a screenshot of what I see:

What I have tried to solve the problem:

    • Install the latest drivers AMD radeon HD (http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/AMDCatalyst1211betadriver.aspx)
    • Reinstall the driver built-in Intel (HD Graphics 3000)
    • The latest version of the A09 bios for laptop
    Nothing has worked.
Switchable graphics worked very well under Windows 7 64-bit.
    Help, please!

I have HP Pavilion dv7-6b75eo laptop and have recently updated to 8.1 x 64 windows. Obviously with the OS update the old graphics drivers no longer work. Any ideas how to solve the problem or at least to the when HP released new drivers (if it ever will be)?

    Thank you.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the situation is that you should not do the upgrade of Win10.  Their upgrade tool has done a really poor job of detecting switchable graphics before the updrade, and as a result, people like you end up with machines that are no longer fully functional.  Same thing happened to me.

With switchable graphics, the only work pilots come from OEM making machines, because the material is suitable, so having to be engines.  MS does not supply these drivers any more than the video card manufacturers.

So, without driver HP Win10 for your PC, you're stuck with only two results:

    (1) keep Win10 and faced with the problem of graphs

    (2) to return your PC to the original operating system.

I chose the second because I prefer a PC with an OS more old where everything worked, to a PC with a new operating system, where things don't work.
