Printer prints in symbols

I am trying to print on a Panasonic KX-P1123 matrix printer connected to a Windows XP SP3 computer.  The printer is set up as a printer between multiple computers.  When I try to print anything from this printer to any computer, printing appears as nothing more than a cluster of symbols, without apparent rhyme or reason.  This applies even to the windows test pages.  The computer, the printer is connected directly to an antivirus (AVG Free 9.0) software has and had an anti-spyware (AdAware free and SUPERANTISPYWARE Free), but I've uninstalled the antispware software and restarted the computer.  The problem remains.  Any thoughts?

Michael

Note that if you do not have a manual for your KX-P1123, get one here: http://safemanuals.com/314159.php?k=80df3754c2c20dcbba291cb15f7a88ef&ID=202796&q=PANASONIC%20KX-P1123

You don't mention how the printer is actually connected to the computer.  These older printers were designed to connect to the parallel port of the computer, a device that does not appear in most modern computers.  If your computer uses a USB-parallel adapter (or cable USB / parallel), so I guess that device or its driver first.  The following discussion assumes that the printer is connected to the parallel port of the computer.  You can perform the following steps (A - F) in order any.

A. assuming that all of your computers use Windows XP, the simplest question would be that the printer driver on the server 'impression' (the Windows XP computer to which the printer is physically connected) is damaged.  Clean the current driver and reinstall the printer on the print server as follows (if some of your computers do not use XP, they will use a different driver, and it seems unlikely that several drivers become corrupted in the same way at the same time):

  1. Go to printers and faxes
  2. Right-click on the icon for the KX-P1123, and select Remove
  3. Click file > server properties > tab drivers
  4. Select each driver associated with the KX-P1123, and then click on remove
  5. Restart the computer
  6. Go to printers and faxes
  7. Click on "add a printer".
  8. Click on the "Local printer attached to this computer" radio button and uncheck the box for "automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer."
  9. In the combo box to select "Use the following port" LPT1 (again, assuming no adapter USB to parallel)
  10. Select Panasonic KX-P1123 list
  11. Give a name to the printer
  12. Click on the radio for the 'No' button (assuming that you do not want this as the default printer)
  13. Give it a share name (use the same share name that he had or you will have to reconfigure all computers)
  14. Print a test page.
  15. Complete the wizard

B. as a first step of troubleshooting, check that the printer prints correctly outside of Windows.  Self-test of the printer mode is described on page 2-16 of the Manual: turn the printer off, and then turn everything on by pressing the button LF (line feed).  This should display all ASCII characters in draft mode, followed by the 4 LQ (letter) of quality fonts.  The event will continue in draft mode for 20 minutes or until you turn the power off, sooner.

Assuming the printer that self-test prints normal characters, I see four possible causes of your problem (other than the USB question above):

  1. There is something wrong with the parallel port of the computer to which the printer is connected (hardware or configuration);
  2. parallel port the printer hardware has failed;
  3. There is something wrong with the cable; or
  4. a configuration change has been filed with the printer (I used to have a KX-P1092, which is only slightly older than your 1123; the 1092 is configured using tiny "switches" under the lid of the printer - but things 1123 makes it much easier to change - and therefore easier to ruin - by using the buttons on the front panel).

C. Si you have another computer with a parallel port, connect the printer to the computer and install it (steps 6-15 above).  If it works, then the problem is with the first computer and quite possibly the first parallel port.  If it doesn't work, then the problem is either the cable, material internal printer; or printer setup.

D. logically, the next step would be to replace a cable checked, but probably, you don't have and don't want to buy one at this point.

Setting up the machine, Checking E. is a bit complicated.  I suggest that read you Sections 3.1 and 3.2 (pages 3-1-3-11) and in particular Section 3.4 (p. 3-18-24-3) in the User Guide.  You should probably print the current settings, as described on page 3-9 and her you need to interpret the results using the matrix on page 3-3.  The printer must be "program" mode to enable your apps Windows control the font setting.

Note that on page 3-20, a possible setting for the "initial Setup" is to use one of the 3 different graphic character sets.  If your printer is somehow obtained in this mode, that could be your problem.

F. If at this point you have not found the problem, do the following (as a substitute for Section 4.4 of the manual - I highly doubt you have Basic on your Win XP computer):

  1. Create a short test file in Notepad and save it in the root directory, for example, C:\test.txt
  2. Open a command prompt window (start > run > cmd > OK), type the following command and press enter
  3. Copy C:\test.txt > LPT1

If you still get the output of your all-symbol, the problem is probably the material, all you should take the printer to be repaired - and ask them to check on their computer, with their parallel cable, first.

Moreover, if I print a test page for the printer, I see racks, which are printed in black!

At the same time, the black level is not printed!

    Please, help to repair!

    Hi @MobileWanted,

The printer is probably using composite black. A mixture of the color cartridges will create black.

The print head is probably clogged. This model has a permanent print head. Not one of HPs, my personal recommendation is to use the solution put forward in the next video.  I suggest you only do this if the printer is out of warranty: How to fix a HP printer, printing black ink not.

If the printer is still under warranty, please call for a replacement printer.

    Hello

As OEM HP is responsible for the good operation of the printer and their drivers. Check with
HP support, their documentation online and drivers and ask in their forums.

If the update of drivers does not resolve the problem contact the seller and the support of HP warranty service.

Good luck, you need to update or reinstall the latest driver.

  • HP LaserJet P2050 Series PCL6: How to print the mark using PCL commands

Our old system is printing of document using PCL commands, previously, only contanins text and barcode (using BARDimm), but we need now to print the mark registered with the name of the company, that the police should I use which has this symbol? Thank you.

Assuming that your old system uses PCL5. You must first issue a set of symbol code that has a mapping to the registered symbol.  The Windows Latin 5 symbol set has the R symbol maps to chr (174) or (0xAE) said in

Hex. The first publication of the code for the symbol set...

    (5 T

    and then the character itself

    0xAE

Now that the characters cannot be entered directly on the keyboard, then you will need to find a way to integrate the character in your print workflow.

Before the character himself is printed, you should choose a font. For most, if not all, printer fonts probably supports this defined symbol. For the test I used the arial font and it printed fine. The code for arial 12 pt would be...

    (s1p12v0s0b16602T

Specify police, symbol set and finally the character. When you printed the character that you'll want to come back to the police in the use and the previous symbol set OR you can print the symbol as a secondary font. If you don't know how, ask here.

I now have the idea how you would do this with PCL6. @dansdaduk can give you good (or bad) news on that.

    http://h10025.www1.HP.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?product=5218794&LC=en&cc=UK&DLC=en&lang=en&cc=UK

It is absolutely vital that this update via a USB cable or ethernet so it is physically wired to the printer. An update of firmware through a wireless connection is NOT recommended and may cause other problems with your printer.

I have also attached the link for the User Guide in case you want to review.

Hello, I have a problem with HP DesignJet 4500.

With the new driver ver.7.10.0.0 (the most recent in the HP support page), when I get to the printer options - all symbols are unreadable (screenshot 1).

Old print server - I found already installed ver.6.17.0.0 driver 32-bit and 64-bit driver ver.7.10.0.0 (screenshot 2). When installing 6.17.0.0 driver for 32-bit PC and open the window-it works very well, all the symbols are in English (screenshot 3).

So, how do I make the symbols in 7.10.0.0 readable? Or, if I can't fix it, where I can download 6.17.0.0 driver (64-bit)?

    Thank you.

P.S. It's unreadable that symbol in the windows printing options, but 7.10.0.0 prints correctly.

Remove the driver completely from the computer (devices and printers, properties of the server), download the driver from the HP website and install it.
