Printer prints only in black

I have a HP Photosmart Premium 309 series printer not. MY96UG916H related to an Apple MacBookPro running OS / X 10.6.4 wireless.

I recently moved my printer and the only problem was that the tray at the rear of the printer was out of one side, which once replaced was OK. I changed a 364XL black cartridge, as the previous one was empty and showing signs of impression of streak.

Since then, I am unable to print pages print black either best, quickly or project.

Using the options of the system, I cleaned the cartridges twice; aligned the cartridges twice, even if it showed in both cases that the action had "failed." The printer seems to go through the print operation, but nothing is displayed on the page.

If I print this page using the best impression, nothing is displayed.

What are my next steps

    Dear all,

I have a problem with my Printer 3050 Deskjet. (USB connected with my laptop).

My printer does not print documents colors in color, but only in black and white (with the exception of JPGs (photographs) which are printed in color.

Word or PDF documents (for example) are always printed in black and white - even if they are in color.

Copy of pages in color on my printer is not a problem.

This works perfectly well. The printer is connected to my PC via USB.

Cartridges (color and black and white) are practically new and original HP cartridges.

Could the problem be associated I could have changed by accident print settings.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

  • Officepro HP 8600: How to bypass the color cartridges empty on my HP Officepro 8600 to print only in black

I am wanting to print Grayscale / black only, still does not allow me to print because I have empty color cartridges.

How can I get around this?

    I tried changing the settings

    Thank you very much

While printing in black is only an option when the color is low, it is blocked once a cartridge is exhausted.  You will need to replace the depleted cartridge. Page 94 of the said the manual here:

Printing in black ink or color only

For regular use, this product does not print using only the black ink cartridge when the color cartridges are out of ink. However, your printer is designed to allow you to print as long as possible when your cartridges are starting to run out of ink.

When there is enough ink in the print head, printer will offer you the use of black ink only when one or more cartridges color is out of ink and color ink usage only when the black cartridge is out of ink.

    • The amount that you can print using the black or color ink is only limited, so the available spare ink cartridges when printing in black ink or color only.

    • When it is no longer sufficient ink printing, you will get a message from one or more cartridges are exhausted, and you need to replace the depleted cartridges before you resume printing.

HP and other printer manufacturers have technology another printer for different needs.  For ink jet printers:

    • Some have integrated into the ink cartridges print heads.  These printers can print generally with one or more of the colors completely empty, or even with color or black cartridges (but not both) removed. The 8040 a Officejet is an example.
    • Other printers have separate replaceable printheads and inks.  An example would be the printer Officejet Pro 8600.  In these printers print head can be replaced if they are damaged by running the printhead with colors off.  Some of these printers allow printing with a color, the other will not.  If the printer is run without ink in one or several colours, the printer may be damaged, but the user may be able to recover without having to send to the printer for the service.
    • Other printers have permanent print heads.  To run only those without little ink in all colours would risk causing damage to the print head because of clogs, air ingested in the printhead or grilled printhead resistances of shooting. The Officejet 6700 is an example of this type of printer. For printers with fixed print heads that could require the service to get the printer to print properly again when the ink is finally replaced.

The document described here how the ink is used.  The document is written for inkjet printers HP the same principles apply to printers inkjet from other manufacturers.

If you do ever print color laser printer would probably be a better choice.  If you occasionally print color but especially black a HPI printer as those in the first category above can be a good choice.

    Hey Ladyli

Welcome to the Forums of HP Support! I see you try to print in black and white for your Photosmart HP 6520, but since I use Mavericks even if you have defined, printing prints always in color.

I would like that you do the following:

    Reset the printing system

    1. click on the Apple icon and then click on System Preferences.

    2. in the hardware section, click Print & Fax/scanning. Dialog Print & Fax/scan opens.

3.right - click (or Ctrl + click) in the left panel, and then click Reset printing system...

    4. click OK to confirm the reset.

5 type the name and the correct password.

    6. click OK to reset the printing system. The Print & Fax dialog box shows any selected printer

Note: This will remove all printers in the print and Fax/Scan, any printer deleted can be re-added later by clicking the sign plus (+) symbol.

Now go ahead and add the printer to the back and continue here: OS X Mavericks: set the print options

You are now able to print without color? I'll watch for your reply.

    Thank you

  • HOW can I PRINT ONLY in BLACK WHEN THE COLORS ARE DEPLETED officejet 6600

cyan and mag are exhausted but I want to only print in black for a contract and it will not!

    How can I replace it?

This printer does not print with missing cartridges, need individual ink cartridges (IIC), be sure to leave the cartridges and then try to go into the settings to print under file > print > printing preferences and locate the Look paper/quality tab under color/Gray scale options and see if Printers lists "Black ink only" as an option available to use. You will still need to replace the cartridges at one point because the printer uses ink in other ways besides just for printing. Here is a link to a document that contains more information about IIC cartridges, black ink only and the other uses for an ink jet printer ink. http://goo.GL/EB1dn

  • How can I set up my printer to print only in black for coupons?

Is it possible to print in black only coupons? They seem to ignore my print settings leaving me unable to change my preferences print black or gray.

    Hi Pattie,

What is the brand and model of the printer?

The problem may occur due to incorrect printer settings or because of obsolete printer drivers.

You may need to change the printing preferences. Because you cannot change the printing preferences, you can check the printer manufacturer's manual or contact the manufacturer of the printer to change the settings of the printer.

Also install the latest drivers from their site.

You can also read the articles and check if it helps.

    Change color management settings

    Choose printing options

You can also try running the printer Troubleshooter to check the issue.

  • HP Deskjet 882C prints only in black and pink

    Hello

I need assistance with my printer.  Before changing the cartridge, my printer started printing in black and pink only.  Then, I changed the new cartridges and it is always the case.  My OS is windows XP Version 2002, service pack 3.  I have had no changes to the operating system at the start of this problem. Short buying new printer cartridges, I thought I would check with you.

    Thank you.

The issue has nothing to do with the drivers or the operating system, there is a problem with your cartridges.

You have probably some very old cartridges #23. The cartridges have a life span and may lose colors (usually of first yellow and cyan) if stored for years. If these are original HP cartridges check cartridge warranty date as shown here.

If the cartridges are inside their two-year warranty call HP to 1-800-HPINVENt or contact your dealer for replacements. If the cartridges are beyond their warranty period, then buy a new cartridge.

Where to buy new cartridges are looking for the date "install by" on the package. I would look for a package at least six months before the "install by", which would have had a year of remaining warranty.

When to store unused cartridges for an extended period to keep them in a cool place and keep them trained as they would cling on a store display. This will give you maximum shelf life.

    Kind regards

  • OfficeJet 8625: printer prints only in black and white

Many of us share a wireless printer and I'm the only one the computer won't print color.  I tried to reinstall twice with no success.

Thanks for your help.  My screenshot is not a quality of page for Details button but I did go to the preferences and found that only the fax software is installed and not the printer.  I didn't know that there were two different add-ons to do this, so I added the printer and now it prints color.

  • Photosmart B110e: Photosmart B110e print only in black after reset

Because one of the rolls were filled with black color and then influenced the paper with the black dye, I decided to disassemble the machine to the roller cleaning and cleaning mechanism on the right side. Now black print is ok, but cyan, magenta and yellow was very low. I tried to clean the printheads several times, but apart from that I have spent a lot of ink, it has changed nothing.

Since I'm sure that the machine's physical in order, I thought that the whole system may have to be reset. Here I could have made a big mistake. I chose to do a total of redefinition and now color cartridges apparently not activated.

There are brand new original HP cartridges in the machine, but I confess that I sometimes used without originality. The problem with discoloration of the paper began, when using non original cartridges. Them I'm not going to spend more, but I would like to have the colors in return.

What should I do when I have more cartridges that accompanies when I bought the machine?

    Hi @jlund6,

You may need a full set of cartridges of installation, or a new printhead. In my view, that a new printhead comes with cartridges installation, but honestly, if I were in your position, I would consider a newer printer. If you call us, we may be able to offer a discount on a newer model.
