• Rotate and move the 16-bit Image

  I would like to rotate and move a 16-bit RGB (U64 in LabVIEW) image.  The IMAQ turn and shift functions do not accept this type of image, but they do not accept an image in 16-bit grayscale (I16 in LabVIEW).  Unfortunately, this clips all values in my original image since it extends from-32, 767 to + 32 767.  The ExtractColorPlanes function requires a 16-bit image to be wired as the destination image but the IMAQ create VI does not U16 to create image.

  Any ideas?

  Just to be proactive... Here is an example of the problem.  I tried to download a (small) 16-bit tif, but is not a valid extension to download.  Photoshop allows me to record a 16-bit RAW, TIF or PSD: none of which can be downloaded.  Sorry for the inconvenience.

  I'm trying to save incoming data to an AVI file using the AVIOutputSession in c# (.Net VS 2008).

  The data is a grayscale image and is captured as ImageType.I16, but when I try to use the WriteFrame() method, I get an error of invalid image type.

  I read the forum and I've seen a few similar problems with the fix is to convert the images in ImageType.U8 and I can confirm that it works, however, he destroyed the upper 8 bits of my image and (obviously) can not be recovered by trying to read the AVI later (using AVIInputSession).

  I'm under the impression (good, bad or indifferent) support than AVI 16 bits per pixel, correct?

  Is this a bug in the NOR-IMAQdx?

  LEADTOOLS encoders that support 16-bit grayscale are the following:
  -DRIVE the CPSM/MJPEG Codec (2.0)
  -(3.0) LEAD MCMW encoder
  -Encoder MJ2K LEAD (2.0)

  But you won't be able to use it through functions, OR the function uses the standard Windows way for interfacing with the codec, you will not be able to pass your 16-bit image to the codec because this type is not supported in Windows. I already tried to change GenAVI example comes with the LEAD library (located in "C:\Program Files\LEAD Technologies\LEADTOOLS multimédia EVAL 16.5\Examples\Ltmm\C\GenAVI\") and it failed.

  You must have Microsoft SDK, then put the filter DirectShow (Source), which will push your images for the codec of LEAD. On the other hand, this filter should receive your images IMAQ.   I am an image with a camera CCD of Basler Aviator avA2300 30km, that camera for 8-bit and 12-bit files. I play with 12 bits for the first time.

  When I display the image with the histogram (see attachment), the depth of the gray level is correct (0-4095), but it includes all the pixels in 16 evenly distributed 4096 levels of bins. I used the setting of Bit Mapping display 16 to map pixels (see attached photo, that is maybe what I am doing wrong?).

  You see in the two pictures that it renders with vertical bands of light and dark, could suggest it is read as 8 or 16 bit and read my data of 12 bits incorrectly? (it isn't just a mistake in my screenshot, that's what I actually see).

  Why does seem to give the right number of gray levels, but not to distribute the pixels than I like? This is the first time that I worked with anything other than 8-bit images in labview, so I guess it is something simple that I'm missing.

  I take a look at the manual camera, this camera allows you to exit from faucets 1 or 4.

  Are you problems when you are in mode 1 tap?

  Check the configuration (gain, correction) that can be passed to every tap.

  Then check the output of data camera 8, 10 or 12 bit mode.

  I think that we have found the problem... I uninstalled Flash by using the uninstall program located here Flash: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html

  I then reinstalled Flash Player and open the HP Solution Center. Then he showed a dialog box that says that the Plugin Flash to Internet Explorer. I use Firefox as my main browser and therefore never installed the Flash Plugin for Internet Explorer, so the graphics error.

  I produce large photographic reproductions combining my own photo images modified RAW 16-bit with 8-bit stock photos and 8-bit of photoshop work. I used just reduce my photos from 16-bit to 8-bit and then change my image composite 8-bit, but I stumbled on the banding and other problems in the color gradients, I created later in my composite image.

  I want my composite image at 16 bits to get more specific and better degraded colors. What is the best way to bring the image to 8-bit files in my composition and maintain the best quality? Is it good to convert images to 8-bit to 16-bit in PS, before you import it? I've also heard bringing 8-bit images as smart objects? Thanks for any help on this.

  Even when there is no need to convert the document to the item in 16-bit mode is not.  If you need all the layers to adjust the image of the element to be light or mix better, it's better you have two choices. Do not open the file of the item in Place as a smart object layer and then open the embedded object and change the copy of your document.  Or open the target document element all the layers and then drag the document you are working on.

  The second way would produce a larger file of the document then the smart object layer way. For all layers will be 16-bit color. When the layer of integrated dynamic object is a copy of an 8-bit image file only the composite made of pixels of the object is to convert 16-bit mode.  A smart object layers pixel is like a whose pixel raster layer cannot be changed only acted on.  To change the pixels, you need to open the embedded object and modify the object.

  I think that's what you hear.  Take a look at the screenshot.  When you create a constant, or a control on the entry called Pixel color value it will create a dialog box that lets you choose a color you want to use when you click the command/consatant.  If you want to enter the actual value of the U32, you can replace this with a digital constant/control and enter the direct number you need.

When I read the "IMAQ Vision for LabWindowsCVI Reference Manual", I found that the imaqBCGTransform function only supports 8-bit Image, while I do the BCG to turn on 16-bit image.   because imaqBCGTransform is implemented as a lookup table, we can understand why it is limited to 8-bit images.

  Now let's take a look at the definition of each of this mandate (from the NI Vision Concepts documentation):

  -brightness: a constant added to the components red, green, and blue pixel of color over color, decoding of the process;

  -contrast: a constant multiplication factor applied to the components of the luma and chroma of a pixel of color in color to decoding process.

  -gamma correction: expand high gray-level information in an image while removing information of low level of gray.  (the chapter on lookup tables gives some examples of corrections gamma)

  now that you understand that this transformation is a simple mathematical function, simply calculate the correction for each pixel on your 16-bit images.

  I know not the exact formula used by the imaqBCGTransform function, but you should be able to approach by performing some tests on images 8 bits with the original function... or you can make your own formula... or find one on the net... or you can ask someone at home OR you give the formula...

  You have an another "Black Screen of Death" problem on Vista 64-bit.  I downloaded and burned the CD to repair, and it loads fine.  However, whenever I go into the options, it is not read my C: drive.  It will not restore the system, it cannot run a "Startup Repair" and if I go in the "Command Prompt" and type "C:", it says that the device is not ready, so I can't change the registry to attempt to repair.  Am I missing something that I need to do first in "Setup"?  Note that without the disc, I go straight to the black screen with cursor.  I can't go in Mode safe, I can't perform sticky keys, and I can't do anything else.

  I recently updated my Canon 7 d for a 5 d Mark iii and this made me learn all about 16-bit vs 8 bit files... (so many hours frustrated I was wondering why my pictures lost their color when I saved as JPEGs from photoshop).  Thus, you cannot save the 16-bit images in jpeg jpeg manages only 8 bits.  I get this now, but here is my Riddle... I am a wedding and portrait photographer, and I want to send my customers the best possible quality pictures that I can.  An image that I just finished work on East of 118 MB saving as tiff.  These seem ridiculously large files to send to customers - in terms of storage space, or perhaps their computers are fast enough to deal with all this information.  I tried zipping it, but he went up to 110 MB.  What other photographers are doing?  It seems such a shame to work in 8-bit - banding is horrible.

  Also, how is it when I export directly from lightroom, having never been through photoshop, my photos do not lose their color?  Lightroom is still save in format jpeg - so why does not them?

  Your color changes are more likely to result from the color profiles not used correctly seen, rather than 8-bit / 16-bit.

  I work entirely in 16 bits (using the Adobe RGB or ProPhoto color space). In this way I avoid introducing bands, when editing and my own files do not lose color information.  However, if I send an edited image to anyone who is likely to display on a managed without color system (that is to say almost everyone!), then I export to JPEG (which is 8 bits) and convert it to sRGB. I always include the sRGB profile in jpeg format. Most of the clients will be discovered on systems that ignore the profile but at least sRGB is the safest in this situation.

  I do a lot of pre-press and the restoration work for printing, mostly working with equipment that requires released as a 1 bit image - very fine line work and mechanical tones that will break or cause the moire if printed with dithering.

  For this reason, when you work with commercial printers I've out usually images with superior typical resolutions - 1 bit 2400 ppi files, i.e. the same their imagesetter resolution works.

  I have a request current a client that involves, at their request, to place images with transparency in Indesign rather than manipulate raster images in Photoshop and just out of the final 1 bit image and placing in Indesign.

  So, I was playing with alpha channels to try to find a solution to this. Is there any image format that will support two channels - one for a piece of mono ppi (1 bit) 2400 line drawings and the other for an alpha channel that will be used to hit transparent sections in Indesign after the fact? Is this possible?

  I COULD simply threshold - adjust my image to make pseudo-1-bit and then place the file in Indesign. But it's a big waste of space (the file resulting in dozens of times larger) AND it makes it more likely that someone will accidentally mixed the image during the RIP to print, thus defeating the objective of providing a high resolution 1-bit image in the first place.

  Well, the next day-

  I read some more about how little coding works on different file formats. There is no place for the information/alpha channel for transparency on image 1 bit because, well, there is only a single bit, i.e. two States - on (ink) or disable (paper). If the shutdown state is managed like a white by Indesign, or the stop State is managed as paper and is presented in a transparent manner.

  So what I really need, is a 2-bit image format. A PNG. While there are four States - on (ink), (off-white) and another way for transparency.

  So I have 'threshold' converted by alpha channel and my channel of the image, then to export--> save for Web (inheritance) and selected 4 color PNG. Voila! Perfect bitmap 1-bit with transparency.

  Now, if he is a pretty good solution for my printer and their Raster image processor, we get to see!
