problem of password with former iCloud account Apple

My wife's iPad has suddenly developed the following fault.

A box with "connect to iCloud / enter the password Apple ID for"old account"appears every time." The problem is that the Apple account he mentions has been disabled or cancelled a long time ago [email address doesn't even exist now] so I can't enter or reset the password.  I looked on the forum and there are problems that closely resemble this but they say to go to the settings, but I can't because the Tin just appearing! I also re started several times, but the box until I can try anything.

I sync ipad with iTunes and it is currently updating the software as is currently ios 7.0.3, however, this update takes a long time to download. Could be the problem?

I did contact the Apple support line, but because I live in Spain their system is in Spanish which I am not competent enough to understand.  I tried to open a session as long as UK, but their call back is only a UK number.

I hope that above makes some sense, and someone can help!

Thank you very much.

Response to my question above, I found the answer on youtube and incredibly, the answer is to change the date on the ipad [you must move fast to click on the buttons to the right until the box keeps popping up again]. It was as simple as that!
