  I just bought this used from a friend.  I can sync via bluetooth, but not via the USB cable.  I get the message "USB device not recognized", "one of the devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it.', 'Recommendation', 'try to re-connect.  "If Windows does still not it, replace the device.

  I uninstalled and reinstalled ActiveSync.  I cleaned the contacts for cable and the phone with alcohol and a toothbrush.  I tried 3 different computers.  I also tried reset them hard and soft resets the phone.

  Has anyone found an answer to this problem?

  I am unable to get ereader PRS-600 to be recognized by the computer (Win7).
  I tried to update the software (even if I think it's in)
  (date) but the window 'connect a PRS-600 to update' does not progress and the update button is dimmed.
  I deleted the "unknown device" in the drivers, but when I reconnect the USB cable and the ereader, I always get the display of device not recognized and the message "USB device not recognized".

  I seem to have solved the problem. I contacted Sony through esupport and a chat with a tech.

  Make sure that the battery has some charge inside. Completely charge if you can.
  Stop eReader (fully)
  Remove the SD card
  Press the button Reset (at the bottom of the ereader)
  Turn it on
  While the display shows "Open book", at the same time press the button to "turn the page" (back) and the Volume button until the "Reset All" + screen
  Enter 'Yes' to reset the ereader. You may need to configure the screen (X button with the tip to draw at various points)
  If you charge the battery, you may need to contact the support chat for sorting.

  If I understand correctly your computer does not detect the printer. You can try the following steps and check the results.

  1) inspect the cable USB and connection:- icon on the USB () facing up when the cable is connected to the product correctly.   (b) in the Open box, type services.msc, and then click OK. The Services window opens.

  (c) to seek the 'Plug-and-Play services' and check if the status is started.

  (d) if the status is not started, then right-click on it and select start.

  (e) once on the way out of the window.

  (7) uninstall and reinstall the printer software.

  (8) re-enable the startup programs: -.

  (a) click Startand then click run. The run window opens.

  (b) in the Open box, type msconfig, and click OK. The System Configuration utility window opens.

  (c) click the general tab, click Normal startup.

  (d) click the Services tab, and then select the hide all Microsoft Services check box.

  (e) click applyand then click close.

  (f) click on reboot to apply the changes to the next time the computer starts.

  (9) try to install the software on another computer.

  Are your self-powered usb hubs? Who's got it power 110? Try plugging an item at a time and see if they are good.   I was using my bluetooth mouse when I plugged my mobile phone (via USB cable) in charge. I have done this before w/o a problem (perhaps in another USB Port, now that I think about it) but I did this time and I instantly lost the ability to use my bluetooth mouse and the "USB device not recognized" bubble popped up.   This seems to indicate that the charger has actually been detected as a device, but Windows can not work it out.

  Normally such a device should only connect to 5v and 0v pins and have no connection with the pins of data, in this way, that it will not be seen by Windows. I would be concerned by the quality of the device if it has some form of data connection. If you want to continue with this charger, that I would recommend to use a power supply of 5v USB instead of risking the USB port of the laptop, a lot less expensive if it does not.   At this point, I think it's a good idea to run a scan for viruses/malware on the PC with the anti-virus software that you have installed.

  Also, if you haven't already, I would try removing the USB controllers and restart again, now that the updates of Windows are installed. Don't forget, you can even download the drivers directly from manufacturer support site for your PC, if they install automatically when you restart after their removal.

  That error usually comes up when a non bootable USB device is connected. Check the Bios and make sure that the CD drive and HARD drive are loading first. That should solve your problem. If this is not the case, make sure that you don't have any USB stick or disk external HARD connected until the PC load.
