  I run windows vista 64 bit and have a motherboard ASUS striker ultimate with an ATI Radeon 4850 (also ASUS) and a processor intel 2.4 ghz quad core Q6600. Yesterday, I downloaded the optional updates and recommended to my system, at the end of that my system went to restart that failed.   Hi all. I am operating Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack 1, 32-bit on an HP Pavilion dv6000.

  My problems started about two months ago, when I installed several updates through Windows Update. I started having problems with my USB ports (even if these pilots were not being updated) and the computer was never able to close successfully. I tried to uninstall these updates, but that did not fix the questions I had. I have also installed software (AutoCAD 2007) at the same time and uninstalled, nothing helps.

  Then my computer started to freeze after running for a few minutes. Time seems to vary from 5 minutes of good use for 1 hour, but I found that it works only because this so long, I only open a program or file and use it all the time (for example, reading a book in Adobe Acrobat format). If I try to open the program or additional files, go to control panel, etc. (read: if I do everything related to Windows Explorer) the computer crashes.   Otherwise I agree with Akuma and you should check the BIOS version and probably an update would be useful. Before you begin to update of the BIOS here are some useful tips:
  -Close all running programs (also, antivirus, firewall, etc.)
  -Make sure that you are logged on as an administrator
  -Unzip all files from zip archive
  -Connect the AC adapter before you can update the BIOS and make sure the battery is fully charged

  I have a similar problem on an issue which was published in 2009 and who was never apparently resolved.

  I have installed the latest updates 'critiques' to my computer that runs vista standard 32-bit and initially things seemed to work, although very slow. First obvious thing that's happened is that the toolbar has changed to a classic type of view (and would not change the type of which I chose) and the system worked extremely slowly (i.e. it took about 20 minutes to open a file on my desktop). I went to reboot the computer and goes really slow. I did a hard stop down, went to safe mode and went to the restoration of the previous system, while everything was fine. My mistake, I didn't prevent download does not happen and the system went through the same as above, except that when I shut down the computer it wen by entirely. When I rebooted the problem was still there, so I made a firm hard to be able to quickly access the safe mode.
