If you want to upgrade to windows 8, I believe that you will find no difficulty in finding the drivers for the HP product support page. The NIC with this port is Realtek 8139 PCI Fast Internet Adapter.   Before you try the procedure below, change the security settings for the firewall at various levels and check if the problem persists.

  I suggest you to update the network drivers.

  Steps to update of network driver:

  1. click on the Start button.

  2. in the search box type devmgmt.msc, and then press ENTER.

  3. Select the network device and right click on it

  4. now, select Properties.

  5. in the Properties window, on the driver tab, click Update driver.

  I work on a Satellite Toshiba C850, that my parents recently bought and spin in a certain number of questions.

  (1) wireless won't connect to my network. Have done the following: verified by connecting on two other computers, reset the router, the open network, reset the map, reinstalled the realtek drivers, checked the settings in the networking of Toshiba Utilities.   The normal recommendation for the CMOS (RTC) battery is to leave the laptop connected to the power supply at least 12 hours when the main battery is fully charged. The charging circuit is going to hijack the current to the load automatically RTC battery and no current will be forwarded to your main battery.
