Problem with Updater.dll

I get this message that is displayed in a box indicating - there was a problem starting C:\Users\NEWOWN~1\Appdata\Local\PLAYTO~1\Updater.dll the specified module could not be found.  I have no idea what this DLL and I don't know if it was something that was deleted accidentally or intentionally.  I know that your computer has a virus called playtopus, but I don't know if this has something to do with the message that I get now.  I also can not download anything because the computer gives me the message that my security settings do not allow the download.  Help, please.

I had the same problem...   Click 'Start' and select 'help and Support '.  Search for "Task Scheduler."  Windows should return information about tool - Scheduler tasks.   Follow the instruction and "click to open Task Scheduler.

The list of "active jobs".  Have you seen the 'Playtopus Updater' task?  His regular schedule is probably compatible with the 'Pop Up' message you received.

Get rid of this task!

When I try to update to internet explorer 6 to explore 8 then the error always pops up saying: you have a problem with shlawpi.dll and he can not continue... Very very frustrating.

In general, it is not a good idea to download dll files.   See, for example, http://pcsupport.about.com/od/findtheproblem/qt/dll-download.htm

If you explain more in detail what your problem is, including providing the full text of the error without paraphrase, it is likely that someone in the appropriate Microsoft Answers forum will be able to help.

Because it seems that your problem is related to Internet Explorer, you are more likely to receive help if you post in the forum Internet Explorer, where there are already many threads dealing with issues of shlwapi.dll on IE: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/Search/Search?SearchTerm=shlwapi&CurrentScope.ForumName=ie&CurrentScope.Filter=&askingquestion=false

If you look through some of these threads, you can find the answer to your question without further delay.  If not (or if you just want to watch), do not forget to include not only the text of the error message, but also the version of Windows XP, you have (Home, Pro, Media Center) and its service pack (start > run > winver > OK).

And, based on this thread - with what seems to be your exact problem - also include responses to the following questions (there no answer, certainly because the OP has NOT provided to the request for information):

    1. what application or anti-virus security suite is installed and is your current subscription?  What anti-spyware (other than Defender) applications?  What third-party firewall (if applicable)?

    2. do you have a free trial Norton, or a test of free McAfee [a] come preinstalled on the computer when you bought it? (No matter if you have never used or activated).

  • problems with updates for Windows (for Win XP)

I have problems with Windows (for Win XP) updates...
    (1) I installed the hardware updates for my sound card (via Windows update) and now I can't hear the music through my speakers or headphones.  In addition, related to my sound card software do not work either!
    (2) at the same time, I tried to install Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 through Windows Update and that would not install (.. .and I tried several times).

So to rememdy those issues, I tried for hours to use the system restore, but whenever I've tried I'm not able to successfully restore and I tried several unique restore points.

    This issue is now resolved.

I'm not sure how, but I think it had something to do with a question I had with ehshell.exe (click here for more on this topic). KB973768 has something to do with Media Center, and given that I had problems with it, it did not cross the installation of this update. Once the ehshell.exe issue has been resolved, I was able to install this update.

  • PROBLEM WITH UPDATE OF VISTA HOME BASIC

I've never had a problem in the past with update. All of a sudden this month there are five important to download updates and the progress bar shows 0% and nothing happens. I am at my wits end and have tried everything. Initially, I did a restore to July 6. Download not successful, but updates to the. I manually downloaded the file tool verification KB947821 for 32 bit (150 MB) and now update Windows Installer says independent research updates? It has worked for centuries.  I thought it was supposed to ask me to install the hotfix, and then do the scan? Any help would be appreciated

    Manually install KB3168965.

The value "never search updates" updated machines and Windows before restarting.
