Problem with Windows Fax and Scan.
I have a Canon MG5420 and Win7 64-bit. All of a sudden, the Office does not see the scanner. The print function continues to operate correctly. Problem occurs regardless of USB or WiFi connection. The only change in my system is a migration towards Office365. Other than that, no change. I tried all the basics: refreshed drivers, uninstalled the printer and re-installed. Any thoughts on what could be the cause? I get the message error is "No. scanners were detected. The utility Scan Canon IJ can see the scanner, but I prefer to use the Windows fax and scan. Any ideas?
Unfortunately his is possible because there are different drivers and stacks of driver for the printer and the component the same multifunction device installed on the client computer scanner. In a case when the right printer driver is installed and available from the scanner driver may be missing or may be incompatible with Windows Fax and Scan requires the parser must be WIA 2.0 compatible, a TWAIN compatible scanner only for example will not work with this app).

Problem with Windows Fax and Scan does not connect to the Internal Modem
Just got a new Acer Aspire 5542-5416 computer laptop with Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium, 4 GB of Ram and a 320 GB hard drive. It has a 56 k modem integrated fax of like the old days, but I can't make it work. The laptop did not come with the Windows CD.
If I open the program Windows Fax and Scan, it is not able to connect to the modem. Basically, if I click on tools > fax accounts > Add..., I get a box with 2 choices: to connect to a fax modem or connect to a fax on my network server. When I want to connect a fax modem I get a message that says: an error has occurred. Please, try the operation again later or contact your administrator. It allows me to do this then just clock OK and them I'm right where I started.
While in Windows Fax and Scan, if I click on tools > fax settings... nothing happens. No menu settings or anything ever appears. Quite simply, the program does nothing. If I try tools > Fax Status Monitor... I get a box that says entrance exam status, ready to receive a fax. It has a blue progress bar as something takes over, but it gets about 1/100 to and never goes further or ends. There is no box, but there are 3 buttons: view details, answer call or cancel. If I hit details, I get an empty list. If I click on answer call I get an error that says that the fax service is not available.
If I try tools > Options, general tab has only a single option box is checked: play a sound when come it to new messages. If I try to print a Word or PDF file to a fax using Fax in the printer list, I get the same box with 2 choices: to connect to a fax modem or connect to a fax on my network server, but I get the same error message: an error has occurred. Please, try the operation again later or contact your administrator.
I've searched the Internet high and low for a solution but no luck. There is a lot of discussion about this problem, but none of the solutions work for me. If I go to Device Manager, the modem is working properly and if I click on the Modem query on the Diagnostics tab, it seems to be able to communicate with the modem very well. I tried to roll back the driver and updated again and still no luck, same problem. If I go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Fax\Accounts in the registry, there is no subkeys under the folder accounts I can delete.
Has anyone else had a similar problem? Is there any solution for this? I did a Windows Update last night and has not yet solve it. Thank you.
Sorry about that.

creating PDFs with windows fax and scan
How can I create PDF files with Windows Fax and Scan using Windows 7 Home Prem? The only way to create a document with multiple pages is by selecting a type of tiff file.
Hi Ken King1961,
You cannot create a PDF using Windows Fax and Scan.
You will need to use a third party program to create PDF files. Use your favorite search engine to locate the PDF creators.

Has anyone seen a fax USB modem that works with Windows Fax and Scan?
So far I'm 0 for 2. PC Fax modems seem to be a lost art. A few months ago, I tried a USB fax modem and tested the receipt of the fax. The modem answers the phone, the fax sender starts the transmission and... nothing happens. Eventually, the sender times out with an error. Same computer, same Windows Fax and Scan software, with an old modem connected to a serial port, all works well. Modem manufacturer was not able to help.
And now the same problem with another PC, the modem is different, different situation. This time I don't have an easy fallback to a serial port.
And that leads to my question - no matter that matter where in fact seen a fax-modem USB in the field send and receive faxes using Windows Fax and Scan on Windows 7, and if yes, what was the make and model?
Thank you
-Greg Scott
Hello Greg,.
Thanks for the quick response.
You can view the reviews of the product in the manufacturer's Web site and see if that helps.
Also for the Windows Fax and Scan, when your PC or computer would be equipped with a fax modem (or connected to a fax server), it can send and receive documents such as a standalone device. Windows Fax and Scan even includes a handy tool for the design of custom cover pages.

Scanning multiple pages with Windows Fax and Scan
I can't understand how to scan multiple pages in a document on Windows 7 using the Windows Fax and Scan program. Using the same printer (Canon MX300), I can scan in several pages in a single file on my old XP using Windows Office Document Imaging. It works very well. I tried to download this program on my Windows 7 computer and I can scan, but the pages are blank! Can someone help me get this figured out?
MODI is part of the office and requires the rest of the Office to be there. You can also use a PDF as PDF-Xchange Viewer writer to import your pages scanned in a multipage. PDF of the file and send it by fax.

Problems with Microsoft fax and scan
I use Microsoft fax and scan on a win 7 pro sp1 machine, to connect to a Microsoft Fax under windows 2012 R2 server. Inbound faxing works ok, but for outgoing faxes, a few questions.
on the server, I can see 4 pages of coverage. How can I force users to use these 4 cover pages. I thought that they show for all users in the domain, but they did not.
When you send a fax how do I get it to look at outlook (we use office 365) for the contact database?
for both the fax and scanning seems to be only looking on the local computer. I'm looking for something more integrated with this solution.
Thank you

Types of attachment in Windows Fax and Scan
Windows Fax and Scan uses a driver to convert the file into a format that is compatible with fax devices. In, faxing an ATTACHED document using Windows Fax and Scan... What are the FILE TYPES recognized by Windows Fax and Scan it would be Send/Fax compatible for basic fax devices.
MS Word 97 (.docx)?PDF (.pdf)?Image (.jpg .gif .tiff) files?Hi deansterzilla,
Windows Fax and scan is characteristic in construction, there is not a specific driver for the same thing.
There is no specific driver to convert file types. All types of files are taken in charge and compatible fax and scan. But when you scan a document, you can save the file in the file format you want to save.

I'll try to keep this simple - as I already asked this on other forums without the answer. My environment - Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 32-bit client machines. A computer needs to scan patient documents to a network shared by a group of users folder. There will be many people who use this computer even through all day (several shifts - environment 24 hours/7 days). This is why I need multiple profiles from windows to all save the scan to the SAME network location.
Currently I am trying to achieve with Windows Fax and Scan and using the ' Scan 'option under 'tools' routing. " There is a check box (once in this option) for "network location". I am using this option, but its does not work and that's the whole problem. Its supposed to AUTOMATICALLY record each scan to the specified network location, but it does no such thing. The scan is not registered at all in fact it is just in the interface user of Windows Fax and Scan... double you click it, and then it shows you the image.
Some information note for helping people answer this question (and any help is appreciated):
(1) * YES * the network folder, I am trying to record is a valid network folder and * IS * accessible via my network of different devices
(2) * YES * the user of this journal on the computer with the scanner * ALL * read/write to have rights to this location of the network folder
(3) * file YES and printing sharing is already active on clients
If you please if someone either knows how to solve this problem, or at this stage if you can even suggest a different (cheaper the better) application that will scan to a network location please let me know.
One might think to a disabled feature labeled as "scan routing" and then a field for "network location", it would be simple as plugging in the network folder and checking a box - apparently it isn't.
Thank you.

Questions Windows Fax and Scan
Hi all
After modernizing our systems to small business from Windows XP to Windows 7 x 64, we were unable to use the toolkit provided with our printers Canon MF Fax/scanning, we converted in Windows Fax and Scan
So far, it's working fine, but I have three questions that I can't find answers to...
1. when a received fax is deleted, where is he? I can't to the trash, and sometimes, I delete a fax by chance and here to recover, but can't find it
2 can we somehow add a comment/topic to faxes received to allow the best management of incoming messages? Would be really nice if the Inbox can be sorted by sender or subject
3. can you inbox / outbox backed up/archived/export made?
Thank you
Hi Mike,.
Thanks for posting your query in Microsoft Community.
I understand that you have some queries about the Windows Fax & Scan utility. I hope you find the following useful answers.
There is no "deleted items" bin ior recycles n Windows fax and scan, so unless you have a backup system, you cannot recover the deleted documents.
No, you can't add a comment/topic to faxes received to allow the best management of incoming messages.
Ideally, the location of the Inbox of fax is C:\Users\ (username) \Documents\Fax\Inbox.
I would also ask refer you to the following article to understand Windows Fax and Scan.

Scanning documents w / Windows Fax and Scan
I use an HP all-in-one to scan documents. Unfortunately, "sweeping" HP solutions Center function of gel (I can print but not scan), then I use the Windows Fax and Scan with Windows 7 Ultimate. How to scan multiple pages in a Document/picture using Windows Fax and Scan?
Hi jwoodyiu,
If you're using a scanner with a charger of documents and Windows Fax and Scan, you can scan multiple pages into a single file of scanning to the TIFF (.tif) file format. For more information, see:
Scan a document or photo with Windows Fax and Scan

If you use Windows Fax and Scan and a flat bed scanner, you can scan multiple images to separate files probably. Not all scanners flat have this ability, so you may need to contact the manufacturer of the scanner to get a driver so that your scanner flat may offer this option.

Any ideas out there?

If you open Windows Fax and Scan and click on tools and then click Fax accounts, there is an option to remove all the accounts listed. After you have done this, you can configure a different account.
You can try uncheck Windows Fax and Scan via Control Panel / programs and features / turn Windows Features on or off / printing and document Services / Windows Fax and Scan. This allows to uninstall it. You restart and then reverse steps to reinstall.

You must correct any problems with your Fax Modem, before you can do a lot of fax. Maybe deleting and reinstalling that will help or verification of the Windows 7 drivers?
