ProBook 6440 b: cannot upgrade to Windows 10 - "The CPU is not supported" error message

Hello everyone

I have a HP ProBook 6440 b. CPU is intel core i7 M640. It is currently running Windows 7 64-bit edition. I'm trying to update to 10 Windows using Windows 10 Upgrade Wizard and it gives me error. It says "Windows 10 does not work on this PC. The CPU is not supported (NX). »

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hello:

I suggest that install you the upgrade from the DVD (authoring tool of your own from the link below - media Make).

https://www.Microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/Windows10

The DVD will bypass the hardware checks.

Also, when you install W10 from the disk, skip verification of updates when you are prompted.

My laptop with Windows XP home (2002, upgraded to SP3), crashed after almost 10 years of perfect service. Then I reinstalled my OS (not OEM, bought and paid for a full installation of Windows XP Home, 2002), and after 3 hands hours hardware controllers and drivers, installation was finally able to connect to internet to make updates on Windows XP and hardware. Arriving at Windows Update of the site, I realized that I couldn't do web updates up-to-date, because my old version of Windows. It will not be updated to SP3, because I need SP1 or higher. So, I tried to download and install SP1a. Error says that I can not reach the server. So, I download SP1a on my other computer, burn a CD and try to install SP1a directly from CD. Now, I get an error message stating "error installing SP1a, unable to reach the server. Try again when you have access to the web... Hello! I'm not trying to install from the web... why this message? It's probably something simple, but I'm frustrated. Help when the first thing I see on the Microsoft Update site is a special page, telling me that I am not able to update Windows. Help, please!

You must use this upgrade path:
Gold XP to XP SP2 to XP SP3.
Note that installing SP1a is TOTALLY USELESS! (Not only that, the file available these days is EVIL, because you knew.)
    Here are the detailed instructions:

    1. download the installation files from SP2, SP3, IE8 and Microsoft Security Essentials, which is an effective antivirus/antimalware program. I prefer to keep these on a USB key, but this is optional. Here are the links to all the installation of three files:

    http://www.Microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?ID=28 (for SP2)

    http://www.Microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?ID=24 (for SP3)

    2. disconnect Internet.

    3. temporarily disable the automatic updates.

    4. install SP2. Restart twice.

5 install the SP3. Restart twice.

6 switch to IE8. Restart twice.

    7 install an Antivirus software.

(What happens very often is that someone has their software antivirus running as they try to install SP3, which often translates into chaos! "This is why it must be done after installing SP3 and IE).

8 make sure that firewall Windows is activated (it should be).

(Now you can physically reconnect to the Internet.)

9 visit Windows Update to download and install only the critical security updates.

10 re - enable automatic updates.

  • Upgrading from Windows Vista Home Premium at 8 - CPU does not support NX

    Hello

I have Vista Home Premium (very probably OEM as it came with the PC) on a PC and I bought the upgrade license to Windows 8 Pro.
I understand that it is in terms of the license transition, but here is my problem:
The CPU does not support NX (and for sure there is no setting in the BIOS for this).
    So I can't move to 8.
To replace the CPU, I need to replace the motherboard.
If I replace the motherboard my understanding is I'm losing the license because it OEM.
So, in reality, I can't switch to Win 8.
The license, I bought said that I can pass any system running XP, Vista, Win 7 to 8 Win.
It does not distinguish between older versions of Windows OEM and retail versions.
For me, it's a huge conflict.
    So the question is:
Can I change the CPU + motherboard to earn 8? or not?
    Thank you
It has been some time but I finally had the time to do the upgrade (hardware + software).
For history and for others who could come on this post with a similar question and be discouraged by responses like this:
I contacted the technical support of MS and they confirmed that I had a Windows 8 Pro upgrade license and after upgrading my license would Win 8 Pro full-detail (what you want to call it). Essentially, after upgrade, I can reinstall any other motherboard. Of course you can only use a license on a machine at one time.
(Of course your upgrade license type may be different to mine, so you should check they type of license)
In any case, what is more interesting, it of that I got the confirmation that I can do a clean install and activate my upgrade license. Not only that, but they recommended the installation of Vista should not be present when installing on 8 to win. I was very skeptical and I asked for an account of the cat to be on the right side. They assured me that the support had made several times and is not a problem.
And so, I do a clean install on the new motherboard (and a new player) and activated windows 8 with no problems at all.
It seems very stupid that you can change the motherboard after the upgrade, but could not make the move and the Windows update at the same time. Fortunately, it is not the case.
To me, it seems that the MS are aware that in you to go from XP (soon), they should also use the materials for the upgrade.

Using WMP 11 on Windows XP SP3.

Windows Media Player has somehow forgotten how to play wav or midi files. Doubleclicking either of these file types give an error "Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The player might not support the file type or does not support the codec used to compress the file. " There is a button 'Close' and 'Web Help' which still informs me, "you met the C00D1199 error message... I can easily play these files with RealPlayer or VLC so I don't think it's a driver problem, and it wasn't a corruption right after installing the other players. WMP seems to work OK when playing music or AVI. And there is no harm to hear a sound (wav or midi) in Windows for various system events. Have already uninstalled/reinstalled WMP without result.

    Thanks for your reply.

I have since determeined the problem comes from an updated codec package I installed a few weeks ago. These codecs were from Shark007 which I believe is a Microsoft MVP. Use the codecs from this site for a number of years without any problems so I did not initially suspect it was the source of the problem. I uninstalled the codec pack and installed K-light package and everything seems to be Ok now. Now, I'll be in contact with the members of this forum.

    Thank you

    Hi Lydia,.

There are three services that are important to check, download and install the updates. These services are Background Intelligent of cryptographic services service and the Windows update Service. These should be in the started state and currently running on the computer so that the computer connects to Windows Update Server, check the update that corresponds to the computer, and then download them accordingly.

Follow the steps in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2730071 and make sure that these services are started on the computer. If they are, then if he please stop and then restart the services. Restart the computer once that change in services.
