  • some of my desktop icons are white, how can I solve them?

the desktop icons are white and must be corrected. How can I solve this problem?

    Hi, Frédéric L.Jackson,.

    1. Did you the latest changes on the computer?
    2. Are you referring to completely white desktop icons or icons changed?
    3. You have security software installed on the computer?
    4. What happens when you try to access white desktop icons?
    5. Are the program of white desktop icons or any file?

See the link below and run the Fixit tool available, check if it helps.

    Method 3

If the problem does not persist in safe mode, then it is possible that some third-party programs installed on the computer is causing the problem.

I suggest that you configure the computer in a clean boot state and check if it helps.

To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows XP by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

  • cannot access the programs on the second hard drive

Hello all, I hope someone can help me.

I bought a computer with a 1 TB HARD drive and a 128 GB SSD, unfortunately, the operating system has been installed on the 1 TB HARD drive. I then bought a program that migrated from the OS (W7) on the SSD and eventually was able to do that. I restarted the computer and according to recommendations adjusted BIOS while the SSD was the first to start but after I did it I can access only the programs that have been migrated to the SSD. Programs on the 1 TB drive are not on the 'Programs' menu and desktop icons do not work "that c/xxxx/xxx file path does not exist" appears. Now, when I go back into the bios and change the boot order back to disk HARD original starting the computer (slower than normal) upward, but all the desktop icons and all programs appear after clicking on the tab 'Programs' obviously I have not deleted the W7 OS on the drive HARD original still. How can I get my SSD to 'see' and to exploit all programs on the 1 TB HARD drive and then remove the operating system on the HARD original 1 TB disk?

    Hello

I don't know what is most important to you, but the following freeware application will allow you to migrate your operating system from the disk to your SSD: http://download.cnet.com/AOMEI-Partition-Assistant-Standard-Edition/3000-18512_4-75118871.html .

I would like to do the following steps, in order:

    1. Back up all the data and programs on an external drive for added security.
    2. Delete / erase the hard drive SSD of all files (a reformatting would be a good way to do it).
    3. Migrate the operating system from the HARD drive to SSD following all the instructions in the partitioning of the AOMEI program.
    4. Remove the installation of Win 7 from HARD drive (again, reformatting the drive is the best way)
    5. Change the settings of the BIOS as needed / educated (if you have not already done on instruction).
    6. Restore programs and data stored on the HARD drive.
    7. Test the system.

Let me know if this helps you.

  • Windows XP: desktop icons changed to the same names, but retained their original functions

    Hello

I know that put at the point before, but the problem was never properly solved. I have Windows XP. While I was changing the name of one of my Office Word Document files yesterday, all of a sudden all my desktop icons changed under the same name. I can't tell you how it happened. 'My computer', 'My Documents', 'Trash' 'Internet Explorer', 'Adobe Reader', 'Corel Photo House', "MS Paint", "HP Solution Center" and eight other program launch icons, as well as 12 document records and 25 files of Word document on my desk, all had the same name change that I'd just been undertaken with one Word on my desktop files. Each icon has yet launched the successful operation or properly open to its original content.

I called my friends in the Geek Squad to two different Best Buys and they had never heard of him. I called Microsoft Corp. in Washington State and spoke to someone there. He had never heard of this before but found a couple of reports, one in 2006 and one in 2009. He said that he asked around the House Microsoft and if he could find an answer, post it on the forum.

No one was able to tell me how it could happen and no one could tell me how to fix it.

I then, on my own, done a restore of the system in two days. He restored the original names on all the items that I have listed above and it restored the original names on all 12 desktop file folders. But it does not restore the names under the 25 Word document files. Those that I had to open individually to see what they were and then rename them manually the original name. Would enjoy to hear your opinion on this.

    Pete Speth

    Hi Pete,.

I tried what you wrote... Select all the files, rename one file and all the files are renamed automatically - as I thought - but for a change of my computer, my network places and My Document obtained renamed the sting that it represents in the registry! I tried CTRL + Z file names seem to be restored, but not for the default icons!... Seems interesting...

  • on registration of the desktop icons are not displayed

Registration using Windows XP, the desktop icons do not appear.

You see only your background image and the wallpaper?

Miss all your desktop icons and you don't see the taskbar at the bottom of the screen or are simply missing icons and you can see the taskbar at the bottom?

Check the simple things first.  Right-click on an open space on your desktop, choose Arrange icons by and make sure the option show desktop icons has a check mark next to it.  This will work if you don't miss you that the desktop icons, but still see the Start button and the taskbar.  If you are missing as the Start button and the taskbar, which isn't your problem.

If only you can see your wallpaper background picture and don't see the desktop icons and no start button or taskbar, this means that the explorer.exe program does not run (and it must be running) or the explorer.exe program are usually afflicted.  A good way to think about at the moment, it is that the process explorer.exe "is" your desktop.

If this is the case of malware in general prepares.

What is your system brand and model?

What is your version of XP and the Service Pack?

You have a true bootable XP installation CD (it is not the same as any recovery CD provided with your system)?

Describe your current antivirus and software anti malware situation: McAfee, Symantec, Norton, Spybot, AVG, Avira!, MSE, Panda, Trend Micro, CA, Defender, ZoneAlarm, PC Tools, Comodo, etc..

Sometimes your anti malware program to quarantine (and indeed remove) your file explorer.exe (or other critical files on the XP system) if it finds that the file is infected.  The file may really be infected, but you can know for sure and then reconsider your anti malware options.

First, you need to get your work desk in order to have room for manoeuvre, then you can solve your problem of potential malware.

Of your background image, press Ctrl-Alt-Del and open Task Manager.

Look at the processes tab and if the process explorer.exe is not running, start it as follows:

In Task Manager, click file, new task, and in the Open box, enter:

    %windir%\explorer.exe

Click OK and see if get you your office.  If you get an error, we need to know what it says.

If explorer.exe is already running in the processes tab, it is likely that the object of the affection and will need to be replaced (which is not difficult).

If you notice that the explorer.exe process is already running in the Task Manager, highlight the explorer.exe process, and then click end process to stop and start a new explorer.exe process as described above.

If things look right now, your system is still not fixed, but it should be enough usable so now you can fix it.

I would start with these scans:

Perform scans for malware first, then these scans by operating clean, difficulty of problems:

Download, install, update and do a full scan with these free malware detection programs:

    Malwarebytes (MMFA): http://malwarebytes.org/
    SUPERAntiSpyware: (SAS): http://www.superantispyware.com/

They can be uninstalled later if you wish.

  • The desktop icons not working not not & programs does not properly

I got pop ups from Windows Vista, which indicates that 33 files were infected and I could download Vista Security (or something like that).  I have McAfee I chose to leave warnings.  McAfee has run several full virus scans and found none of the 33 listed viruses.  However, none of my icons on my desktop works and I get error messages when I try to open Excel, Quickbooks and I keep having to select a program to open these files.  What should I do?

If I click on any desktop icon, I am invited to a screen that asks me to "choose the program you want to open this file".  I've recently updated for Internet Explorer 9, but this has been done because by clicking the Internet Explorer icon on my desk gave me the above message.  Basically, what I do to have my computer function normally (i.e. be able to use the icons on the desktop).  Can I have a virus?  McAfee, seems to indicate that I don't have.  All of this started happening when I received a message from Windows Vista stating that I had a virus on my computer.  Initially, I refused to buy the virus scan software because I have already and I thought it was a thing of sale.  Thanks for any info you can give me.  It's very frustrating, especially if I lose my data from office.

  • All my desktop icons open under 1 program. How to return to the original way can be opened as part of their own program?

Long story short, all my desktop icons and pretty much everything else opens under the same program.

I deleted the program that went all other programs and now all the desktop icons are left white and they don't know where to go.

I saw several responses to this before, but none of them were really clear. How can I get my programs to open to their original programs?

    Hello

It's like as if all your slots target for your shortcut got a little messed up. Here is a list of the simple troubleshooting steps that I suggest.

    • When this problem started to happen
    • Have you made a change to your system, such as installing the software before that happens?
    • Have you tried to delete the shortcut icons and create new ones on the oldest?
    • Have you tried to change the target location manually? -To do so, right click on any shortcut icon of the present Office on your computer, locate your target and see if it takes you directly to your location of program if not, go to your local disk, program files and scroll to the program that you want as a shortcut on your desktop. Then go on the address tab and click once. Copy and paste the address into the location your shortcut properties target.

    Hope this helps,

    Kind regards

  • Win 8 (Pro) - Questions on program files, the desktop icon and taskbar

    Hello

I just upgraded successfully Win 7 (home) to Win 8 (Pro).

I have a few questions in mind:

Q1: A program icon can be PIN to the taskbar and desktop at the same time?

Q2: Under Win 7, user can easily see all installed programs by clicking on all programs in the Start Menu and select no matter what and copy and paste it on the desktop or PIN to the taskbar task, but under Win 8, I could not find this feature. CAB user to access the program to install all at the same time? Or the user needs to type the name of the program to the search box one by one? How to pin it in the Start Menu Win 8 on the desktop instead?

Appreciate someone could help me in this area.

    Thank you

First question: Yes, of course.  You can place an icon where you want. Desktop, taskbar, start screen, at the same time.

    Second Question:

The start of Windows 8 has a screen view "all programs" similar to the former in Windows 7 (except the new is full screen).  To get her on Windows 8, right click on an empty spot.  If you have Windows 8.1 update, which makes it easier to find by putting an arrow at the bottom of the main screen.

To take an icon from the start menu or the list of applications and put them on your desktop, right click, choose "Open file location" and then copy / paste the icon on the desktop.

  • PSE12 - I lost my desktop icon when I tried to move to the gutter. Now I can't find how to start the program.

The useful suggestion only so far is to uninstall PSE12 and reload it. However, I bought this package as a downloadable copy and I don't have an original disc. Because I have now recorded copy, will be - this PSE refuse to allow a second attempt to sign? See you soon

    Hi Ned

A.... With the help of your response and assistance from Adobe, my query has been resolved. Help Adobe's response is that, with the PSE, reset the validation is done automatically when the program is uninstalled. I just deleted the previously created desktop icons. Please see excerpt of conversation Chat Adobe below.

    1. Adobe: uninstall and turn off are the same in PSE
    2. Dave_t_9: Wow! I didn't know that! So if I have problems loading, I can try to load several times on the same machine, providing I have uninstall between each attempt?
    3. Adobe: That is absolutely correct.

    1. I'm sorry that my download was backwards. Also to add the attachment, I tried to use the print to the screen but it was rejected saying that the format was not supported.
