Programs list is empty.

I got a bad virus that took on my computer saying that the hard drive was bad. I return my computer finally after downloading avast and Windows security. The only problem is my program in the start menu list is empty (with the exception of Avast and Google Chrome I downloaded after disabled infection). The programs are always there, just not listed. To use them, I have to go through the help to find auto icons. Any help would be appreciated.

  • "All programs" list empty

Yesterday, I noticed that when I click on "All programs" in the Start Menu, there are all the programs listed. I can still access all of C:\Program Files, so I know that I've accidentally deleted all the programs. Is it possible to restore them to "all programs"? Attached is a link to my "All programs" list look like now.

    Hi LisaEB,

    1. you remember to make changes to the computer before this problem?

It seems that if you have something close to 70 or more shortcuts/folders in the all users folders & Start Menu/user combined program, the list of all programs will eventually be empty or empty. Check the number of recent programs that can be displayed in the Start Menu.

    Method 1:

    a. click Windows orb to open the Start Menu.

    b. right-click on all programs, and then select open.

    c. double-click the folder programs. There should be a list of folders.

    d. create a new folder.

    e. Select a bunch of files in the folder programs and drag the folders to the new folder.

    f. restart your computer and check if the programs are shown when you click on start > all programs.

g repeat the above steps until the list is displayed in all programs.

    Method 2:

You can also try the following steps and check if it helps...

Important: This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click the following windows Help article.

    Back up the registry

    a. Click Start and type regedit.exe.

    b. Select regedit in the search list.

    c. now, navigate to the following keys:-
    HKEY CURRENT USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders

    d. the value of Start Menu to "%USERPROFILE%\Start Menu".

    e. go to HKEY LOCAL MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders.

    f. common value Start Menu to "%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Start Menu.

    g. close the registry editor and restart the machine.

    Hope this information is useful.

  • can't see installed updates_says no updates installed (windows on_off list also empty features)

I installed windows 7 ultimate (32 bit) on three new Vostro (I - 5) machines and all the updates and software that we use. Then Windows Update list says "no installed updates" and features Windows on_off list was empty. To i.d. the problem I reinstalled win 7 ulimate (32 bit) and all of our programs on one of the new computers. After every installation or Windows Update, I checked Windows Update/Installed Updates list and the list of windows features and all the elements included (visible). When most of the installation path through the updates to ArcGis 9.3.1 a flag came who said two critical windows updates were available. We stop at installation of ArcGis for windows of the road updates. After you run the windows updates XML Core Services 4 SP2 (KB973688) and an update of security for the same (KB954430) I went back to check the windows update list and he said "no updates installed on this computer" also, nothing has been shown and list of windows features box was empty. Tried to roll back to a previous time, but that doesn't seem to work. Automatic update still seems to work, but we cannot see the list so that we can remove individual updates... What is happening and what can be done, any ideas, thank you.

I thought that I should let one more message for anyone after that because I think that the problem is solved. I googled on the number 'KB973688' and "Arcgis 9.3.1" update it lead me to a thread that has referenced the following urlhttp://forums.esri.com/Thread.asp?c=93&f=1148&t=287391#902480 . It offers a solution to change the registry size limit. It seemed risky, but it worked all updates are now visible and windows features on_off shows what should be. Two updates came back and auto installed but now did the damage. They do not appear on the list of Windows Update, but the rest don't. Maybe install Arcgis was the culprit

for Win 7. All three new machines work properly, thanks again for your support.

  • Add or remove programs list has an extra space with black blocks and white space.

This problem causes the list to be VERY long with some programs listed at the top, and then, many white and black spaces blocked in betweent the rest of the programs.  I do not have autocad and I ran the .exe that true negative results in Exposeicon.  None of these have solved the problem.  I had this problem for a while, so I don't know what to install or uninstall caused this problem.  Does anyone know what anyone else for this problem?

    Thank you.

I did some more research online and found another thread on this problem.  I downloaded 'Add Remove Pro' from the list of items on the list provided by this software and a list of the computer gives me.  I uninstalled a few programs that have been identified between the programs before and after the empty space in the list given to me by the Add/Remove on my pc.  After you have uninstalled a few things that have been in the interval and restartig the pc, the empty space is left.

  • Something has happened to the "programs" list when I click on 'start '.

Lasst Saturday when I was on the computer, I must have done something - I have no idea what - but all my icons disappeared and when I click on start and then all programs - all programs that have been missing there. I tried everything I can thru & assistance. It doesn't let me do a "System Restore" back in the day where the night before, he started. Any suggestions are appreciated!

    Hi KimBrusenhan,

-What exactly happens when you try to perform the system restore? You receive an error message or error code? If Yes, indicate the same.
-What version of Service Pack of Windows XP you are using?

These problems occur if the value of the Start Menu common registry entry is inaccessible or if the value is not valid. In this case, Windows XP cannot initialize the shell program.

Method 1: Try this method and check if it helps to fix the problem:
Connection to an account administrator and do the following:

    a. Click Start. Click run.
    b. type the following command and press ENTER:
    regsvr32 /i shell32.dll

Method 2: If you use the version of Windows XP Service Pack 2, then download and install the hotfix from the link below and see if the problem is resolved.

If you use the version of Windows XP Service Pack 1 or 2, I recommend you to upgrade to Windows XP Service Pack 3 version that will improve the reliability of Windows by installing the software - new drivers for hardware updates and much more.

  • Installed the programs see the emptiness on the Satellite A350-212

    Hello

I hope someone can help here. My brother left England in the Turkey a couple of years ago and his cell phone, which was the United Kingdom's irreparable, so he bought one in Turkey, A Toshiba Satellite A350-212 and has problems with the downloads. For example he downloaded a free trial of Coverxp and he seemed to download ok and asked if he wanted a shortcut on the desktop. He said yes to the shortcut, and as I say, it seemed to have installed ok.

The iicon office never appeared and the Coverxp in all programs also shows empty.
This is the case for most of the things it has downloaded, such as the trial version of Winrar.
In programs and features uninstall, applications are here. In my view, this could be a security problem.

All the things he tried to install it I installed on Vista without any problems

If anyone can help with information ill be most gratefull

    Thank you.

    Hi mate

First I put t think it's a problem of Toshiba.
I recommend saving the downloaded packages somewhere on the second partition.
Then go to that partition and unzip the package.
    Then follow the installation instructions.

By the way; shortcuts on the desktop can be created manually.
Simply right-click on desktop and create a new shortcut and point to the exe of the installed software.

  • Generic icon in the Add/Remove Programs list

Hello to you all, useful forum fans!

I have a nice custom icon that I built in my specs of the executable version, but when I use an installer to install my program, the icon in the Add/Remove Programs list is the software generic one (with the box open and CD).  How can I get my custom icon to use in the list as well?  I'm using LabVIEW 8.5.1 (and wishing my company should pay for 2010! ).

  • Try to build the application, the screw startup list is empty

    Hi all

I am following the directions on this page:
    http://zone.NI.com/reference/en-XX/help/371361G-01/lvhowto/building_a_stand_alone_app/

But somehow, when I get to Statup screw selection stage, the list is empty and cannot add the VI I intend to use it. Why is this happening? What step am I missing?

    Isaac,

The first step in the help file you cite says «Open the LabVIEW project...» ».  You have your VI within a LabVIEW project?  If you want help with your Build, it would be useful to look at the project.  The best way to proceed is to implement the project (and all the screws, you wrote that belong to the project) within a Windows folder, compress the file (at one. Zip file) and fix it. Zip file.
