Programs open slowly.

Nearly every program that I run takes 30 seconds. 2 min. to initiate. After instructor, everything works fine.  I don't think that it is a problem of computer performance.  I have an AMD Athlon 64 X 2 Dual Core Processor 3600 + with 3 GB of RAM.  Even opening the notebook takes a long time.  Can someone help me?

Deanofa1,

Make sure you always have all important data is backed up.

Consider doing a startup repair, it will reinstall your windows without performed system files your other data

Also, since you have stated that this problem started occurring after that you upgrade your RAM, you might like to run the memory diagnostic tool http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/Help/4edd5f80-def2-4d32-965c-116d49fb98721033.mspx

I would recommend also looking for any firmware / bios update for your hardware, if you have a pre-generated system you can provide us the brand and model and we can direct you to the appropriate resources. If you assembled your device yourself, then you must provide the information motherboard and graphics card.

As the forums MS Answers does not prompt for any information system when a new question is asked, we know absolutely nothing about your system.

Not knowing the basic information a problem prolongs the frustration and the agony of these issues.

Click Start, run and enter the following command:

    regsvr32 appwiz.cpl

Click OK and you should see a message like this:

    DllRegisterServer in successful appwiz.cpl

Restart and see how things look now.

  • When open my photo album file and clicking on a photo to see the excel program opens the image viewer.

I open an email with pictures.  When I click on the photo attached to the view, the excel program opens and not the image viewer.

One of photo accessories save somewhere you can find it (for example, your desktop computer).
Right-click on the file that you saved and select open with, then select "Choose program" (at the bottom of the context menu).

If the program you want to use is listed as one of the "recommended programs", select it, click on the box to "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" and click OK.

If you want to use the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer to view photos (personally, I like free IrfanView better) AND it is NOT listed as a program "recommended" or under "Other programs", follow the instructions below:

    in Windows Explorer:

    • On the Tools menu, click folder... Options
    • Click the File Types tab.
    • Scroll down to the extension that you like, for example "JPG".
    • Press the restore button, if it exists.
    • Press the Advanced button.
    • Click the Open action.
    • Click on change...
    • In the Application used to perform action: enter C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\shimgvw.dll,ImageView_Fullscreen %1. "C:\WINDOWS" is the directory that contains your Windows installation.
    • Press OK

You'll want to repeat for each extension (GIF, JPG, JPEG, etc.) for which you want to change the behavior.

  • The Windows Setup program opens each time a program is open

My setup issues are not quite like those posted. My Windows Installer is not only appear at any time, but rather opens whenever I want to open a program. I click on explore, and I get the window. It passes through the preparation to installation and the program opens. It should not only be the program well. When I tried to open this Web page, it came, and then when I wanted to post this comment he came again. So I had to wait until he is 'install', and then I could post.  I did a system restore now for something completely different, and once I did, and then it started to happen. I also decided to restore back to an earlier date, and then I got the message unable to restore. I tried to re-boot in safe mode, but it wouldn't take my password! Thank God it's Friday! I really want to solve first the thing of windows installer.

  • Program opens off the screen in a multiple monitor on Windows XP configuration

Original title: I URGENTLY need help with an XP several problem of monitor!

Our company has recently migrated to a new office and I got stuck with the displacement of all the computer systems to the new office. To make a long story short, one of our employees use four 4 monitors. After many difficulties, I finally got the monitors working as a horizontal screen with scrolling smoothly from left to right.

However, I have a BIG problem. One of the programs of this employee uses disappears (flies off the screen right most) when maximized. I can bring it by moving to the right screen, but I can't understand how to do that a permanent solution. ANYONE - your help would be appreciated. Is it a matter of swapping the screens? It was rather difficult to get properly prepared screens because it did not meet the order, I tried. Anyway, these people are rare flowers and get bent out of shape, if the program opens on the designated window. Is there a way to specify which window it can open on whether it can be remedied at all times?

    Thanks in advance

    Hi Petrovsky9000,

Have you tried disabling 3 additional screens and then by testing the application? If you need help of deactivation and activation of the monitors, you can use the following as a guide:
    http://www.Microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/Setup/hwandprograms/monitors.mspx

If you always lose the application when the window is maximized, try the following:

    1. With 1 active display, maximize the application.
    2. In the display properties window, set the resolution of the single screen for a step down from where it is now and apply the changes.
    3. Accept the new resolution, and now to see if your application is in the center of the screen.
    4. Now go ahead and set the resolution to what it was and and apply the changes.
    5. Make sure the application is always visible and maximized correctly. If so, go ahead and turn the other 3 views and see if everything works properly.
Here are a few steps that solved the problem for my own systems in the past. I hope this helps!

My Cookie file was corrupted in data and my programs continually pop up with the 'corrupt file' error when a program opens, pointing to \Users\name\Appdata\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Cookies.

The problem is, Chkdsk will not fix this, and I can't access the file. This opens up a world of problems when I need to fix this error, so I can upgrade to Windows 7. Help, please!

I just ran the scan again. He said of the errors found, but could not be repaired.

This problem actually has nothing to do with internet explorer. It's the cookies folder that is corrupt in the Windows folder in roaming. The error file is in conjunction with the programs, that I try to run (AIM, Skype, so forth). Trying to enter the folder it says it's corrupt. I don't know what is the root of the problems or how to solve this problem, but these measures have not helped so far. Regarding the repair, I will try that next.
