Programs stopped working properly on my new Windows 8.1 Pavilion

I recently bought a HP Pavilion with Windows 8.1, and it was fine for several days until that one day almost all of my programs stopped working. Browsers will open and load the new tab, but then appear not to respond. All my games or their pitchers will start but will then stay here and won't do anything. If they have a progress bar, it will be 0%. I managed to open a game player single steam but the game itself closed to the time wherever I tried to start playing. Some RTS a few years ago was the only thing that still worked.
My anti-virus software (McAfee) also will not open, but I see in the task manager that there a lot of processes running. The percent use of my CPU, memory, and disk were not overloaded either. I was not at all the sites that Web of Trust have not scored green so I doubt that it would be a virus, even if the main computer on my home network has some nonsense on it.

RedRocky54,

Welcome to the HP Forum.

I'm not sure what the other computer on your network has to do with your new laptop - unless they have both started to get into trouble at the same time - in which case I suppose it's possible that there is an infection or incompatible Update shared by both computers.

It looks like the system may indeed be infected - or at least could have been assaulted with a bad update.

System restore

You can try using system restore - if you can find a usable restore point, i.e. a date you can return before the problems started.

It is sometimes easier to start over if you don't know what to do next and your diagnoses and anti-virus tools stop working.

In any case, if you have run out of options on how to proceed, then you might consider that the computer is indeed again: you have had not long ago and you have no time to install more than a certain number of programs on it.  You might consider that it may be time to start over.

There are a certain number of options that can help you do exactly that come built-in to your operating system.

Understand the same update will eliminate your programs installed - you need to reinstall your program steam, for example and your browser (with the exception of Internet Explorer).  You need to reinstall everything that came with the system in the first place.

  • several programs have stopped working properly

Hi, I am very concerned about my computer who acted very strange.

I am running Windows Vista Home Premium, I think.

It started about a month when I went to run Google Earth. A notification pops up saying that he could not communicate with the google server and therefore did not work. It was very strange because I've been properly connected to the internet. I tried troubleshooting by using the google Web site, but nothing has worked. I finally re-installed and still got the same problem. I uninstalled the program and have not tried to use it again. This is not my major concern, however.

I also realized that Google Chrome and Internet Explorer do not work. I've been successfully using Firefox to use the internet, but for some reason, those other two programs do not work, even when the computer is connected to the internet.

The final problem and the one that worries me the most because I am a writer and dearly need Microsoft Word, is that Microsoft Word has stopped working properly.

When I start the program I get the message: "Word could not create the work file. Check the temp environment variable. »

I check the temp environment variables which are on the right track, I know that it is: "% USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Temp.

"I have also checked the registry editor, and under"Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders"AppData is set on ' %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming

It was of all things, that I was told to check by others, and they all seem to be fine, but Microsoft Word still does not work!

The only reason I included the issues I've had with other programs is because I think they can be related somehow, even if they have all stopped working weeks of interval.

I would really help to get my programs to work! Thank you!

  • Photo Gallery Windows has stopped working properly

When I try to use the windows laetitia Gallery, it shows a window that says "microsoft windows."  Photo Gallery Windows has stopped working properly.  then he said: it's the search for solutions, and the solution is always to update windows.  When I check my windows updates, it is said that it is up to date.  I have an automatic update.   This has happened for weeks.  I checked for solutions, installed things he told me too, etc, it continues to be every time.   I am able to use windows movie maker and media player, but it has happened with the photo gallery.

Here is a solution I found:

    (1) Control Panel > Folder Options > view > show hidden folders and files
    2) go to: [reader
Letter]: \Users\ [user] \AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows photo library
    (3) delete all content (or back up if you like or at least copy to a folder separate until that you confirm the data is not lost and everything works as it should)
    (4) Photo Gallery start Windows

All files must still be there, and should remain intact, but the problem
should be resoved. It may take a minute or two to rebuild your library.

If this does not work go to start / search and type in reports on problems and Solutions, and double click on the program icon that appears.  See if he has everything related to this issue.

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!

  • iMovie suddenly stopped working properly when editing

    Hello

I worked on a project basis in iMovie when it froze and stopped working properly.  I decided to force smoke but every time I have opened since then, it still does not work right.  (Can't see the project in the upper left window, can't see the cue for where you are in the video, cannot change and several other things).

    I tried the things:

    Restarted my computer twice

Tap, it turns off and unplugged for more than 20 minutes before restarting

Has sought the apple.com.imovie.plist files in the preferences, but they do not exist (so can't remove them)

I use a macbook pro with the latest operating system and running iMovie 09 (version 8.0.6)

It was working fine until something "reversed".  I think I just change a duration of the clip when he went weird on me.  It was supposed to be a very simple project that I could finish quickly and now it turns into a "big thing"!   Advice please!

I tried and it seemed to work.  The only part I did was the film the iMovie file plans on my desk.  Then I edited the clip and it exported fine.  I had trouble getting images will appear and abandoned on that because it was not necessary in this case...

I had the same problem and today met with a representative of Apple Care. Here's what he told me. Quit iMovie; go to computer > movies and move the folder of projects iMovie on the desktop. Open iMovie; Create a new test project using footage of the event library. Attempt to export it or do whatever it is you were doing in the crash (selection of titles below a certain rank in the window of securities done as well mine accident that export). If you do these things, and iMovie goes not down, the problem is caused by a corrupted movie project. (Although the representative wouldn't say, iMovie is originally the corruption - and the problem lies in securities - information on this below). Just have something corrupted in the project library will make the program crash, even if you are working on a new project. You must re-create your file piece by piece, see if it exports after each addition to see if the new addition is at the origin of the problem (choose the film because it's faster). I managed to recover all the video edited more than transitions by clicking on a movie clip in the corrupt project and selecting all and copying and importing into a new project (even if in the meantime, I had to open and close iMovie to drag this project corrupted on the desktop as it kept crashing). I discovered that a particular type of headline - organic - was this project and program crash - all of the titles. When I tried it add to the project rebuilt, it crashed. When I went to the old file was corrupted and tried to remove this title, it crashed. When I tried to remove the clip that had this title on this subject in the former, it crashed. The transitions that I used worked well (although not sure if all of them would be). Music, photos, excerpts from films, etc. all beautiful. The problem with iMovie and it needs a fix! But I was able to restore my project - I like less the style of the title - and export using this method.

  • Office Pavilion Elite HPE message: AMD/ATI Video Driver has stopped working properly

I have a Windows 7 Desktop HPE-410y, this morning, that the flag of the action center was at the bottom of the screen.  I clicked on it and there was a message: AMD/ATI Video Driver has stopped working properly.  He also said I should click on a link for a solution to this problem, but of course when I made the site of HP said that the page does not exist.

Maybe say if you have in fact noticed nothing else Action Center indicator would be useful.  If it seems to you that the computer was OK and run satisfactorly, then perhaps he had already solved the problem.  Usually reviews can occur if a program did unexpected things and crashed the video driver, then the driver recovered.

HP site can be set to an old page.  The real driver has not been updated recently on the HP site.

Note: The PX Engine Setup may require a restart after the installation.

So, it is a fake website, or is it ok? I'm a little worried, because I have a small Toshiba laptop with no CD/DVD-ROM. And to be honest, a few weeks ago I bought a Microsoft Office 2010 Professional Plus and had problems with the installation. Since then, I got the blue screen twice by saying me serious error. So, would be - that or else, I need to be aware of?

    Thanks in advance!

    Danielle

ImgBurn does not use the PX engine,

However other software may install it.

For example, Winamp can install if you do not uncheck 'Sonic Ripping/ardent support' under 'Media engine' during installation

I would say that it is safe to install the PX engine update if you're headed there by Windows Error Reporting.

We could create a system first Restore Point.

However, the PX engine update is unable to solve the problem.
