Protection against viruses, need both ClamXav and opendns?

Recently, I got a Trojan virus on my MacBook Pro stupidly opening an attachment of Google Docs sent to me by e-mail.  I changed the password, the deleted e-mail created by the virus filter and changed the dns to opendns.  Now I'm running ClamXav for a good scan.  I see an offer to purchase opendns on an annual basis.  Is it recommended to buy the two ClamXav and opendns?  What are different and they compliment each other?

You shouldn't have to be.  Generally running a scan with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for Mac will identify these problems and allow you to eliminate them.

https://www.Malwarebytes.org/antimalware/Mac/

It does not run in the background, so it will not have any impact on the negative performance on your Mac.

In addition, it is often recommended by the phone Apple support technicians and the genius bar.

Ciao.

    Hello

    1. do not use ANY registry cleaner like those who claim to be able to solve a lot of problems are all hype or
    Worst SNAKE OIL.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    2. here's what I use and recommend: (these are all free and very effective versions.)

Avast and Prevx proved extremely reliable and compatible with all I have
launched on them. Microsoft Security Essentials and Prevx have also proven to be very
reliable and compatible. Use MSE or Avast and Prevx, Prevx 3 but not all.

Avast Home free - stop any shields is not necessary except leaving Standard, Web, and
    Operation of the network.

    Prevx - Home - free

    Windows Firewall

Windows Defender (is not necessary if you use MSE)

    Protected IE - mode

IE 8 - SmartScreen filter WE (IE 7 phishing filter)

I also IE always start with asset if filter InPrivate IE 8.
(It may temporarily turn off with the little icon to the left of the + bottom
    right of IE)

Two versions of Avast are available 5.x and 4.8 x

Avast - home - free - 5.x stop shields you do not use (except files, Web, network, &)
Shields of behavior) - double click on the icon in the Notification area - real time Orange - click on the
Shield that you want to stop - STOP. To stop the Orange icon to show an error indicator-
Click on the Orange icon - top right - settings - click on the status bar - uncheck shields you
    disabled - click OK
    http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download

Avast 4.8 x - home - free - stop shields, you don't need except leaving Standard, Web,.
and the network running. (Double-click the blue icon - look OK. - upper left - Shields details
    Finish those you don't use).

Or use Microsoft Security Essentials - free
    http://www.Microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/

Prevx works well alongside MSE or Avast

Prevx - home - free small, fast, exceptional protection CLOUD, working with other security
programs. It is a single scanner, VERY EFFICIENT, if it finds something come back here
or use Google to see how to remove.

Also get Malwarebytes - free - use as scanner only. If you ever think malware and that
would be unusual with Avast and occasional Prevx running with the exception of a low level cookie
(not much), to UPDATE and then run it as a scanner. I have a lot of scanners and they
never find anything of note that I started to use this configuration.

    3. start (button) - Control Panel - Windows Update - view update history.
Best to leave only updates, unless there are problems.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    4. set your router to use either WEP (ok), the (better) WPA or WPA2 for security (the best).

    I hope this helps.

    Hello

    Control Panel - Security Center

The problem is that all firewalls (or antispyware/antivirus/security programs) report correctly so
You cannot be 100% sure that this page is accurate.

Check your type of start - Start - programs in the area of search-> find above MSCONFIG and click twice
    -Check the Startup tab.

  • If you download and install Windows 7, it will eliminate bugs, Trojan horses, viruses that exist in your computer right now? I have a virus or some thing, that means, unless I have download this protection against viruses of fantasy, it doesn't let me do

I tried to restore the computer to an earlier date, but not is not good, it let me just go back one day, I tried to start in safe mode, is not good at all.

Formatting the hard drive and installing Windows 7 (or any other operating system) annihilates all infections except MBR (Master Boot Record) disc.

Your computer probably has a rogue security program . If you want to try to remove it yourself, first run a full scan with your antivirus program.  Next, download and run these programs:

  • Protection against viruses with ThinkVantage Toolbox

Recently I had to change antivirus software as a change in University policy. Now, we use Microsoft Security Essentials. However to change antivirus software our computers are still showing the old anti-virus software in the box to ThinkVantage tools--> network--> Virus protection security.

Instead of the ThinkVantage tool box to uninstall and reinstall, there should be a beneficial way to address this problem. Otherwise, users will continue to receive the red X in the Toolbox and the icon on the lower screen.

Will there be an update ThinkVantage Toolbox to fix this? We are also users XP and planned not to migrate quickly our laptops soon.

    Hello
This situation is due to the fact, that directly when you installed ThinkVantage Toolbox it combines all the inside info.
Now, what you face are the correct behavior of this application.
Here's how you can let this go away:
    -uninstall the Toolbox
s ' ensure that it is removed also in %ProgramFiles% %, registry and %programfiles%\Common files
    -* reboot the machine.
    -Install the Toolbox back

The main readon is that metadata is always in the stored registry, you must delete it, so that the information will be reloaded.

  • Built-in protection against malicious software or viruses

Mac Mini OS X El Capitan 10.11.3 has built-in malware and virus protection?  When I tried to install AVG and MalwareBytes, I usually "Mac can't get the virus.  Sorry, but I don't know no better, having witnessed two friends Mac-user suffer by infections.  So I thought to install AVG and Malwarebytes.  That is until I just read a great article on the subject on this site.  One thing that he mentioned was built-in protection against malware.  He has appointed several versions that have this built-in protection, but does not have the name OS X El Capitan.

The easiest way of defence is to avoid downloading software from sources other than the Mac App Store or Developer Web sites; unless you are concerned about malicious Windows software, everything you need to guard against it is integrated into the operating system.

MalwareBytes simply provides an easy way to remove malware; It does nothing to prevent it from entering the computer. It should not be considered as protection.

  • Windows Defender and the malicious software removal tool not doing anything to protect against malware, why Windows Update keep harassing upgrade us on a regular basis?

original title: WHY Windows Update keep up to date USELESS of Windows Defender and installation USELESS malware remover?

I'm a computer technician who makes a TON of virus remove money from Windows computers.  Two-thirds of my tasks of repair involving the elimination of viruses from Windows and trying to fix the Internet Explorer, the worst browser known to humanity.

I have a question about Windows Defender and the malicious software removal tool.  These are two programs entirely worthless, evidenced by the fact that computers with them installed still get infected of all viruses, Trojan and rootkit out there.  Clearly, if these two programs of malware Microsoft has done anything to protect your computer, it would have been without having to release still a THIRD tool antivirus, "security essentials" for Microsoft.   I'm not complaining — the way Microsoft Windows absorbs malware like a sponge, put a lot of money in my bank account. Please keep doing what you're doing... however...

My question is, given that Windows Defender and the malicious software removal tool doing nothing to protect against malware, why Windows Update keep harassing upgrade us on a regular basis?

Windows defender is not an antivirus program, it is designed to protect against spyware.

If you don't like them, so do not use them.

  • computer has office 2003 and win xp3pk win do I need both?

computer has office 2003 and win xp3pk win do I need both?

If you mean, by "win xp3pk" Windows XP service pack 3, then you don't need two, but you probably want both.

Windows XP is the operating system - the Basic program that controls how everything else on your computer is running.  "Service Pack 3" is current day and last major update to Windows XP.  You absolutely need this - except if you want to set up a system of non-Microsoft operating like some variety of Linux.

Office 2003 is a suite of "productivity" applications.  It includes Microsoft Word (a word processor), Microsoft Excel (a spreadsheet program), Microsoft Outlook (personal information manager and e-mail application) and Microsoft Powerpoint (a presentation application).  Some versions of Microsoft Office include additional applications.
