  As what I suppose be a business strategy, RIM specifically does not provide a PIM/Organizer with their software. Rather, they provide guidance to PIMs different so that the user has the choice as to which PIM they prefer.   BES is not required to synchronize a calendar with a BB. Indeed, you can synchronize with the tools available today, two-way calendar, contacts, email, etc. etc. etc.

• Use only the blackBerry PDA Smartphones

  How can I synchronize a blackberry that I use as a PDA only?  I have Lotus Notes at work.  And I thought I'd be able to synchronize the blackberry with this via the USB connection.  Is this possible?  I was a user pilot Palm and I want the same functionality I had previously.  Only, I have a blackberry because my office only allows BB 8800 or better.  I don't have a wireless plan.

  Recently I seem to get a continuous "Connection" message to BBDTS. Have you tried the following:

  -the latest version of the BBDTS software.

  -restarted the pc (Win7x64)

  -restart the blackberry

  -tried a different usb port

  Nothing has worked. It seems that the blackberry connects to the pc OK

  Any ideas on how to get a connection established

  In addition, make sure you use only the root USB ports... without hubs (sometimes the front-end ports are hubs... use a rear USB port). And don't forget to try to disable the USB power management in the configuration of your system (Device Manager).

  Check also on the incompatible software... it was reported that NTI Shadow Ninja & software can cause a conflict; Remove and reinstall the desktop software BB allows to install correctly.

  My apologies in advance if this is redundant - there is no way to be sure that if you have already seen and tried these. Also apologies if all are not currently available... RIM takes their monte and descends at will as they revise things.

  ... I have Verizon wireless and it is not on one of the disks I got with the phone.  I know it is available online to download, but before downloading, I get a message stating "Note:

  If you did not purchase BlackBerry directly from Research In Motion (RIM), please contact your service provider to determine if this software has been authorized for use with your handheld. "I contacted Verizon, and they do not seem to know, either.  Any help is appreciated.

  I know it's maybe a silly question - but I was finally able to download the blackberry Desktop Manager and then back up all the data from my blackberry to my computer via Desktop Manager.  For my own peace of mind, I would like to see some of these data (addresses and phone numbers) just to make sure I did the back up properly.  Is this possible?

  Well, your confidence level in the backup process is your own to define. Maybe if you start the restore process, but do not actually run it, DTM might give you indications of what it contains. I agree that I saw the posts of others who say that the backup was useless... but I have no way of judging if their characteristics are identical to yours.

  BlackBerry Desktop Software will be able to synchronize, you must make sure that the BlackBerry has OS 4.5 or more and it syncs with Outlook 2011.

When I plug in the device, BBDM software recognizes and starts to connect, but then the green circle just keeps turning around and never ends. The other day when it is plugged, I received a message that pops up saying something about a "random number generator '. When I searched the problem of people said to uninstall/reinstall the Desktop Manager software with the latest version. So I downloaded the latest version of the software, and when I ran everything has been disabled. When I uninstall/reinstall the version that we used before the same thing, everything has been disabled. This could be the cause of this problem? I guess it must be a hardware problem.

  The locking function has changed. Now, you must use the lock button on the top of your BB to lock the keyboard. If you assign a password lock to your BB, you will have an additional homescreen icon to activate that. That's how it works now and there is no method to reverse (save, if course, to fall back to your older operating system worked differently).
