Qosmio G40-12 s not start - only blinking cursor

My Toshiba lights up, he has power over the security in place. When I slide my finger he tells me certified, unlocked hdd1, hdd2 unlocked, then a blinking cursor and that's where he stops forever.

It won't start, I guess that the BIOS is not working.
When I remove my drives to be used on another laptop as external drive, so I can access my files, the system cannot mount hard disks because they are locked by the Toshiba laptop.

I love this Toshiba, I hope there is help out there that can get out me of this mess.
No, my Toshiba model is PQG40E-02Y02EG4.
Would appreciate any help

Hello

> then a cursor flashing and that's where he stops forever.
Do you mean that you have a cursor blinking in the upper left corner?

Blinking cursor is a typical sign of a malfunction of the HARD drive
My HARD drive died some time ago and I noticed the same flashing cursor in the upper left corner of the disk HARD was not available and I had to replace it.
New HDD to solve this I was able to install the new system on the new HARD drive and could start Notepad.

I bought my laptop at pcworld.co.uk while I was in the United Kingdom, but now I'm in Mauritius (Africa).

    Hello

Manufacturers recovery disks normally do not have Service Options; they are normally a relocation to the factory only settings option.

Acer definiterly only reinstall to factory settings, new condition.

Here is the guide to repair Options using a Vista DVD from Microsoft.

If a friend or a work acquantance of yours has one, you can borrow and use it for repairs.

    Hello

Unfortunately, it looks like a hardware malfunction. I guess that it s related to the motherboard or perhaps CPU, if you have already tried another memory module.

You should go to an authorized service provider. Guys have good diagnostic tools to check your laptop and repair. In addition, they can order spare parts Toshiba.

    I tried to:
    * Remove battery and power up with AC only
    * power only to batteries
    * remove the battery power button hold for 30 seconds and over power with AC, battery only athen

    but it did not help.

I checked the LEDs AC & battery, but they do not blink, they are just RED, so there is no problem in battery or AC.

No idea where could be the problem?

    Hello

The failure of RAM could be the reason for this behavior of the laptop.
Remove the RAM modules with good modules tested and check the functionality of the laptop.
In the case of RAM isn t the troublemaker, the motherboard could be affected.

    Hello

I'm having a problem with my Satellite 2450 where it is not initialize properly - is stuck in the screen of Windows XP (just continues to scroll through and hangs there).
I can boot into safe mode.
Have not had any other problems with it - no errors, do not have installed/uninstalled anything recently.

Any ideas what could cause this problem?
Do you think I should use the recovery disk to reinstall the OS? Anything less drastic I can try?

    any advice appreciated,
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello

Usually, if the laptop does not start correctly in normal mode, but only in SafeMode because some drivers or / and software applications are false or defective.
In this case, the recovery procedure should solve this problem.
If you n t have the Toshiba Recovery CD, you can install from the original CD of Microsoft's operating system, and then you can try to install stuff together from Toshiba (driver, tools)
These software, you will find on the page of the Toshiba driver.

I upgraded to Windows 7 from Vista and found that my infrared chipset (SMSC SIO1049 SuperIO chip) does not appear in Device Manager.
According to this page, it should appear as an unknown driver (ACPI\SMCB0C0)
    http://msdn.Microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd567986.aspx

The IR remote control provided by Toshiba does not work (it used to work fine under Vista). All the world had the same problem B4? How to fix you (if you resolved at all)?

Does this mean that Ineed to wait for the next update of the BIOS (my BIOS version is 2.20)?

    My computer is a Qosmio G40 PQG40 02201NCE.

    Hello

If the device is not visible in the Device Manager, not even as an unknown device, then this means that the device does not exist or was not detected by the BIOS.

Usually, the infrared receiver must be visible in the Device Manager under:
Human interface devices - > infrared receiver SMSCIR

In system devices, you should see the device consumer infrared.

Don't forget that you have enabled devices hidden sow option perhaps of Device Manager, then you might see this

    Please also check the BIOS
I'm not very well if the infrared device option would be listed in the BIOS, but you should check it m

    Hello

You see the Toshiba BIOS screen after turning on the laptop?
    You can access the BIOS?

If you see something on the screen and access the BIOS, I would recommend load default settings here.

But, generally speaking, for the moment, it is difficult to say why this happens, so you should test step by step.

    Hello

Well, if you are not able to boot up the laptop I'd follow the instructions here:
[What steps must be followed if your Toshiba laptop does not start? | http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/ann.jspa?annID=21]

And as you already read in this article of official Toshiba if it doesn't work, it looks like a serious hardware malfunction. This means that you must contact an authorized service provider and let guys check your laptop.

But not don t worry: If your laptop is under warranty, the repair is free. :)

  • Satellite A105-S4164 - will not start only white screen

    Hi all
I have a laptop Toshiba Satellite A105-S4164 that will not start.

I thought that maybe there is a problem with the battery. I took out the battery and then plugged the laptop to the power outlet, makes no difference. The blue lights in the front of the laptop, lights, but I hear no noise from the motherboard or the fan. The laptop is bought in July 2006 and it is out of warranty.
All I see is a white screen.

My guess is that the motherboard must be replaced. I have also had kept with Symantic anti-virus and windows updates XP before April 1, 2009.

    Thank you for your comments.

Well, I think that in this case the laptop must be verified by the technician for laptop. You should contact an ASP and ask for help. It would be the best way because the technician can be sure what parts are defective.
