QQ on Camera Raw Cache and why mine is empty

Small question about Camera Raw Cache:

Mine is empty. Always.

I read that the develop module stores information about the pictures, it opens in the Camera Raw Cache, while the library module stores its previews in the adjacent LRDATA directory to the Lightroom Catalog. I also read that the first can be stored anywhere and are limited to a size specified in preferences, whereas the latter must accompany the catalog file and has no limit on its size.

Why so my Cache Raw camera always empty? I'm going in and out of the develop module, edit, switch between photos to develop, see 1:1 and larger images to breast to develop, etc. Should not that cause the cache to be generated in Camera Raw Cache entries? I tried to move my Camera Raw Cache of preferences and I the size of the cache the value 30 GB with plenty of space on the disk, but it is always empty.

The Camera Raw cache entries consist of a few early demosaiced and partially processed data which gives a head start when loading the image in the develop module. But ultimately, it is the original and complete file that is finally loaded once the raw conversion and a modifiable built and displayed real-time preview. This happens whenever you load a picture to develop. A Jpeg file is little different in the way it is loaded, i.e. the complete original of the file is read each time and the real-time preview generated, except that as there is no raw conversion to do it are obviously didn't need at this time for this entry cache to exist. There is no file of 'internal' which was held to facilitate the process of development, the LRDATA extracts are mainly for use in the library only.

  • Curious question about previews of Lightroom and Camera Raw Cache

Posted in the Flickr Lightroom group as well:

I noticed something on the previews of Lightroom (3.6) and cache Camera Raw, intrigued me.

I create a new, empty catalog, and purge the Cache of Camera Raw.

Then I import ONE Nikon (NEF) RAW file with dimensions 2592 x 3872 (10 mega pixels - 10,036,224).

Then I export this NEF file to a TIFF 8-bit file uncompressed. You can expect this file size TIFF about 30 MB (10 megapixels x 3 bytes per RGB value) and in fact the TIFF file is size of 30,135,830 bytes. If you export the TIFF file same ZIP compression to specify the size of the resulting file is 10,834,038 bytes. The compression achieved here is obviously going to be highly specific to the image, but so far no surprises.

When you import I said make 1:1 previews and I spend in the Loupe and see the whole picture in the format 1:1. I also visit the development module and do a lot of manipulation on the image but not cropping.

At the conclusion of all this, I got out of Lightroom and examine file camera Raw Cache as well as previews of Lightroom file size. It would be my expectation that the previews folder should have a complete image rendering and Camera Raw Cache should also have a display form of raw data. What do you expect the size of these respective folders to be?

Indeed - in my tests that the previews folder totals a simple 1 675 264 bytes and Camera Raw Cache that contains an image DAT file cached one is simply 267 374 bytes. This doesn't seem like enough bits to preserve the image rendered, nor there at - it an image is full-size, nestled in the actual catalog - the file is not large enough to hold that. And yet I can use the magnifying glass to the format 1:1 mode and move an image to the image without loading delays (even when you import multiple files).

I wonder if I missed something obvious in my analysis and that, if someone might not care to speculate on what magic Adobe's practice here. Even if grant us them special algorithms to compress their insights that I don't see how they can achieve a compression so much larger than the file ZIP compressed TIFF realizes.

And for those who might think to ask - I have told these experiences with multiple raw images and on MAC or PC platforms.

I look forward to answers or interesting theories or maybe someone could reproduce the results of the experiment and report.

The previews in the preview cache are JPEG files. JPEG compression is much more effective than the lossless zip compression. No magic here.

  • Location of the camera raw cache on the same drive as LR?

I know that cache camera raw should be the fastest disk for optimal performance.

I was wondering if it should be on the same drive as the catalog, or isn't it important?

I wonder whether or not you will be able to detect a difference. My Camera Raw cache is on the same drive with my Lightroom Catalog program. But I installed an SSD. Once Lightroom is loaded and running, I couldn't determine a difference in performance. The program loads faster, but as soon as it is running I could not see a real difference.

  • Photoshop or Camera Raw, Lightroom and Photoshop (with Bridge)?

Since then, if I understand correctly, Camera Raw is a match for the Lightroom Develop Module these days, I wonder how using Camera RAW and Photoshop with bridge as an organizer, compared with Lightroom and Photoshop.

Would be grateful pros Rapids or disadvantages on these two approaches.  Thanks in advance.

That would explain the differences and circumstances: Photoshop Lightroom of Versus, which is right for you?

  • Pls help. My Camera Raw, CS6, and Lightroom will only read the NAVE of D610 files.

I've recently updated to Nikon D610 and NEF files were not readable from my old version of CS6, Camera Raw and Lightroom. So downloaded the recommended updates and I now have Camera Raw 8.4.0.199; Lightroom 5.3; CS6 13.01. But still has not read my D610 NAVE. Help, please. Thank you.

Oh wait, I had. Just in case for those who have the same scenario. I downloaded my D610 NEF files using the old software ViewNX 2.1 and it was the cause of the incompatibility. So, I improved my ViewNX to 2.9 and downloaded my images again. And it worked this time.

  • The duller colors of Camera Raw in Photoshop: why?

    Hello!

I open my Canon 70 d with Camera Raw 8.4.1 RAW files. After this step, I open the file corrected in Photoshop CC. At this stage the colors have changed, everything is duller and less contrasted.

    See the image.

    Capture.jpg

Color-managed raw camera: Adobe RGB, 16-bit.

Photoshop color management: RGB: Adobe RGB (prepress Europe 3)

In addition, no verification of color is active.

How can I fix this problem?

It is a problem with your display profile. The conversion of source profile to display the profile is not the same in these two cases, so a bad display profile can appear in this way.

ACR converts from its internal workspace, linear ProPhoto. Adobe RGB is just export color space here, so not relevant. Photoshop OTOH converted Adobe RGB.

Recalibrate and review the settings of your Stallion. Profiles of V4 and focused on the LUT have caused problems for some, so try and matrix-based v2 if you have these options. You can also test by substituting a known, good profile that would be for a standard display sRGB or Adobe RGB for a wide range.

  • Camera Raw Versions and PSE

On my Windows 7 PC, I installed (and have a license for) among others the PSE V10 and V12 PSE.  On my PC, when you edit a NAVE of Nikon, PSE V10 uses Camera Raw 6.4.1 and PSE V12 Camera Raw 8.2.

Given that on my C drive, I see only one copy of a folder named "NIKON D5000" (this file is in C:\ProgramData\Adobe\CameraRaw\Camera Profiles\Camera), I have the impression that 6.4.1 versions and Version 8.2 Camera Raw share identical patterns of the camera.   This impression/assumption is correct?

Question No. 1: Can I conclude, that (as the two Raw camera Version share the same camera profile folders), if I buy a Nikon D5300 (which gets officially supported by Camera Raw 8.n (n is probably equal to or greater than 3)), which once Camera Raw 8.n (n = > 3) will be installed on my PC (because it will be the camera Raw Version supported / used by PSE V12) , I'll be able to deal with my future D5300 Nef files both with the combination of PSE V10 Camera Raw 6.4.1 and the combination of PSE V12 and Camera Raw 8.n (although officially, Camera RAW 6.4.1 does not support the D5300)? Thank you very much in advance for your answer.

Question 2: Can someone point me to a downloadable file of the NAVE photographed by the Nikon D7100?
I'll then download this NEF file and see if I can deal with the combination of PSE V10 and Camera Raw 6.4.1. This will allow me to check the answer to question 1. Thank you very much in advance for your answer

N ° they are two separate applications and have cameras different gross plugins. You may be able to copy the file Camera Raw.8bi of PSE12 to PSE10 although some versions of the PSE reject the subsequent updates.

  • Camera RAW 7 and 9 elements

I'm using the Beta version of CS6, and there is a program of CAMERA RAW 7 that I would use in my program elements. The editor of RAW elements (current) has always cursors in a preset configuration, not zero. Using CS6 Beta, the editor of Camera RAW (7) opens with the sliders set to zero, a much better way to edit. Given that I'm a bit overwhelmed by CS6, I resorted to the edition of RAW with version beta, it closes all by saving the. Given DNG and then open to the elements and continuing from there. I have 7 WINES, but if anyone can help with my problems with my version, this is so cool! I tried to change the settings, nothing seems to do the trick. Thank you *.

  • How to download cs5 Camera raw update and how Photoshop default in the menu "open" bridge?

    Two problems, who defeated me.

First, I have a new Canon EOS 500 d and need to download the recent (July 2010) CS5 Camera Raw update. However, both of my computers freeze when I move from Adobe's Support web page to the download web page.  Is this a known issue? What do about it? I use CS 5 on a computer Windows XP 2007.

Second, (probably related to the first) opening a file in Photoshop is not among the options "OPEN AS" of the bridge. Also, the default 'OPEN' is "PAINTING". How can I configure default menu Photoshop "OPEN"?

Thanks for your suggestions. I am really baffled by these questions.

    JackIsaac

    Your second question:

In Bridge, click Edit > Preferences > file type Associations.  Scroll through the list to find the types of files you want to edit in Photoshop, click on the arrow down.  Click Browse and navigate to Program Files > Adobe > Photoshop and select Photoshop.exe.  (I'm looking at an older version of PS as I type this, but you get the idea... I hope so).

  • LR4 and Cache folder Camera RAW

    Hi all

I know that many are complaining about the LR4 responsiveness and how LR3 was faster in response.

Like many others, I have a new and very fast PC, but apparently LR4 crawling when it comes to navigtaing through images.

I've done my share of tweaking LR4 for best results optimized such as catalogues Optimize, Render 1:1 previews, increase the Camera Raw cache of 30 GB size, move the folder, camera Raw Cache next to the catalog folder as Adobe recommends and what not.

LR4 has become more sensitive, but I noticed something strange, which is the subject of this post.

While filddeling autour with LR4 performance issues on my PC, I noticed that even if I have more than 20,000 images in my PC and some files are rendered with 1:1 previews, the Camera Raw Cache folder is empty.

This could explain why render 1:1 previews did not affect LR4 while browsing through the images.

For example, just after I created 1:1 previews (whether any right of importation or after the fact) I'm back navigation during this action of navigation, LR4 makes 2 images every time I discover them--which beats the purpose of using the cache file.

Thus it comes to think how, even with such a catalog size and raw camera remains empty 1:1 previews, the cache folder? And this could be the cause that makes LR4 make every single picture over and over again without worrying if I saw the picture a second ago?

    Thank you.

    Gil.

    There you go then.

LR does not need to use the Camera Raw cache folder because there is storage essentially the same data that would be stored in the folder cache directly in the file itself. "Fast loading data" Google and you should find a reasonable amount of information on the subject. This also rules out this folder specific as being a source of any performance issues, you may face, as implied by another poster.

  • Is there a downside to Lightroom to synchronize metadata with Adobe Bridge and Camera Raw?

It seems to me that this is something you want to do if you want to use the bridge, but it is not set by default so I wonder why.  Diminishes anyway Lightroom in?  Changes to my pictures are always not destructive?

According to the Adobe Help article.

"By default, Lightroom metadata are stored in the catalog file. Camera Raw, Photoshop, and Adobe Bridge display changes to Lightroom metadata, including development module adjustment settings, metadata changes must be saved in XMP in Lightroom. When you save metadata to a raw file, the changes are saved in an XMP file. With other types of file, metadata are stored in the file itself. "Lightroom help | Advanced metadata actions

Adobe is trying to say that if I chose to synchronize metadata - Lightroom will save it is no longer in the catalog?

Thanks for the help.  I don't want to change a setting and then 1000 photos later know that there is an unintended consequence.

Adobe is trying to say that if I chose to synchronize metadata - Lightroom will save it is no longer in the catalog?

I doubt it, the metadata created in Lightroom (including the metadata created by synchronizing metadata or sync settings) are ALWAYS saved in the catalog file. You can not disable this option. Optionally, you can tell Lightroom to save XMP metadata

  • Why can't save default camera raw?

I'm currently impossible to reset my camera raw default in CS5 (Camera raw 6.5).  When I click on "Save Camera Raw Defaults", the changes do not appear when I open a new image using Adobe Bridge. I seem to be stuck with the changes that I made some time ago. What could happen?

Camera Raw uses the same settings you last used to open a file.  It's just the way it works.  The default values that you define will be used on any image that you have not opened before.

To restore an image that is open before the new default values, you must do one of the following:

    1. Choose Camera default Raw in the menu:

    2. depending on how you have configured Camera Raw to remember your parameters passed, either delete the XMP sidecar files or go to Edition - Preferences - Camera Raw... and empty your Camera Raw cache if you want to discard all the previous and future parameters opens using your new default values.

  • Camera raw for items 11 and iMac

I have 11 items and an iMac.

I bought a new camera that has need of camera raw 8.5 in elements to work on raw files.

I can't find an update for this work.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you

Camera Raw plugin and Adobe application compatibility

11 is only compatible with Camera Raw to version 7.4.

If you need Raw 8.5 then you go to 14 items.

Alternatively, download the free Adobe DNG converter, convert all of the Raw files to DNG, and then change the DNG files in 11 elements. An extra step for you, but no extra costs.
