Question about changing XP Media Center edition xp family

I don't want to do anything illegal, but is there a way for me to put Xp home on my laptop without having to buy a new
one. Kind of a downgrade, I guess. MCE came with my laptop that I have upgraded to Vista shortly after, but I'd rather have plain ol XP.

See you soon

Hello Anthony

It is unclear to me that you can downgrade OS, just upgrade. I'm afraid you have to reinstall WXP using facilities of Microsoft CD.

I don't know what model of laptop you have, but if you want to have the new OS installation, I recommend installing WXP professional.

Hoping to get help with this, because I searched everywhere and had not found an answer.  All the work around the items, reference Windows 7 and 8 not XP my Dell Dimension C521 shipped with Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 pre installed.  I've upgraded to SP3 of XP.  A friend of mine gave me his old Xbox 360 (bought a new unit).  When I try to connect to the XBox 360 I get an error message in media library "uninstall the update for media center 2005 and then re-install the update of the site Web of Windows update.  Then, re-run Setup for Xbox 360'

I checked in my under settinds program control panel, but don't see any element for Media Center 2005, even with show checked all of the updates.  I don't see Media player listed and 2 updates for it.  I have disabled the Windows Firewall did not help.  The Xbox 360 test shows that I can connect to the internet, Xbox Live (no NAT problems) and PC running Media Center.  It fails on the media center connection test.

I don't want to reinstall all of the Dell backup image software supplied with the camera, I'll have to back up and start over.  Any help is welcome!

Since you tried a system restore and it does not, another option would be a place in update available here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/help/install-reinstall-uninstall if there is some registry changes that could help. It depends on if they designed the program to overwrite the files again.

  • My hard drive has failed. I have Microsoft XP media center edition 2005. How can I get a recovery disk?

I had a hard disk crash.  I don't care about data loss, but I bought a new hard drive and you want to install Windows XP media center edition 2005.  I have a sticker on the side of my pc with the product code.  How can I get a recovery disk?  Download the program from another PC?

As your original failed hard drive, you would of course not be able to access any partition contained on this hard drive recovery.  Therefore, your best option is to contact the manufacturer of the computer and see if you can get the installation of their own media.

Can I attach a printer wireless with XP Media Center Edition 2004?

    Hi DWGSMITH,

Yes, you can connect a printer wireless on XP Windows Media Center Edition 2004.

You can follow these steps to install the printer:

    (a) you can use the supplied with your printer installation CD to install the drivers for the printer on your computer software. Alternatively, you can download & install the software of the printer from the manufacturer's website.

    (b) connect the printer wireless on the computer. Make sure the printer is powered before you continue.

    (c) click Start menu > settings > Control Panel > printers and faxes.

    (d) click on "Add a printer" in the navigation bar on the left under "Print jobs." The "Add Printer Wizard" opens.

    (e) follow the wizard until you reach the page "Network or local printer" and choose "Local printer"... «or «Printer network...» "Choose the basis on the question of if the printer is connected directly on this computer or a print server or other computers on the network.

    (f) type the wireless network password, if prompted. The Printer Wizard can also ask to install drivers to print before the final connection is made. Click 'Yes' If you receive this prompt.

    (g) close the wizard when you get to "Finish."

  • No sound in Windows XP Media Center Edition

I have Windows XP Media Center Edition Service Pack 3. I lost the sound when you try to install Windows Media Player 11. Under the configuration/sounds and devices Panel there is now no device not listed for the Volume, the speaker settings. All the devices on the Hardware tab have been checked and they are supposedly correctly, even if I do not hear a thing. I've also updated the Realtek audio drivers and nothing has changed. And... There may be a limit to the number of files that can
Add in the root directory of the drive. This can be
fixed by adding a few folders to sort the files.
