Question about creating a recovery (file system) USB flash drive

Hello and happy new year to all, (I'm from greeece, sorry for the mistakes of language possible)

(Pavilion dv6-6c01ev - Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit - bought 08-21-12)

I want to create a USB stick recovery, and I just bought a USB flash drive 32 GB 3.0 for this reason.

I've never done it before, but I have read how, according to the this page.

My question is:

What file system must be the USB key, before the decision-making process? FAT32 or NTFS ?

Bought, thati USB file system is FAT32 by default.

I already read that on the page above: 'a message of Recovery Manager opens indicating that the flash drive will be formatted. Click OK to format the USB key and continue. »

but I would like to have, and a more definite answer from someone who knows better.

So, does change the NTFS file system.

or should I now start the manufacturing process of the recovery USB flash drive as it is (FAT32)

Thank you for your help

I have already created the recovery USB flash drive, and formatted Recovery Manager the disk before the process,

and at the end, when the recovery files was written and verifyed.

I look at the file system of the USB flash drive, and it's NTFS...

I worried for nothing...

Thans anyway...

  • Split 13 x 2 PCs 13-m110dx: cannot perform the system recovery using a USB flash drive

I just bought a Split 13 x 2 13-m110dx PC that came with Windows 8. I have upgraded the OS to 8.1 and made a copy of the recovery Partition using a USB flash drive, and deleted the recovery of the PC disk that I learned that I could do. However, when I tried to retrieve OEM provided using the USB flash drive by following the directions at creation and use of a recovery of Microsoft USB drive (Windows 8) "System Recovery" was not available to the title of "troubleshooting." I tried to tell it to boot from the USB, but it askes me to insert the support of windows or other media, but rejects the flash player. What do I do now because I have not all discs?

    Hello.

    Just a few questions please:

    1. when I do only once "HP Recovery Media" to a USB key, I can then 'copy' and 'paste' on another USB flash drive as long as the 2nd flash player has sufficient capacity?

    The recovery still works well?

I ask this question in case I have to change to another USB flash drive and I am aware I can only have a copy of the HP recovery.

    2. If this is the case, I then can also make a backup on a Western Digital external drive so that in case of malfunction of the USB flash drive, can I still transfer files to another USB flash drive?

Thanks in advance for the answer.

    Hello Jane

When you create the recovery disc, saved on your laptop recovery image will be copied to the disk. This recovery image contains the operating system, all the drivers necessary, Toshiba specific tools and utilities, and also some additional software.

  • Dell files and USB Flash drive

I did a 128GB flash drive back to Dell PC.  I have now only 508 MB of available space.  Is there a way to delete the files and recover my USB?

Because you used the Dell backup tool, you can ask them, but it sounds like a problem with the USB device.

Try to insert it at different PC and check if you are faced with the same question.

  • In Windows XP Home edition USB Flash drive

In order to manage the partitions on a hard disk in Windows XP Home edition, I use disk management, which allows me to set sizes of partition and DISKPART, which allows me to CLEAN the MBR or the whole disc. No idea why I need both.

However, when I insert a USB flash drive, partitioning options are not available everywhere, either by right-clicking on it in disk management, or by typing SELECT DISK n in DISKPART, which tells me that the drive number is invalid. A number of the disk that I copied from disk management.

How can I configure WXP as I want to repartition my USB?

    Hello

We cannot create a partition on a USB flash drive in Windows.

  • Laptop HP 17 p100: how the usb flash drive big that I have to create a system of 10 Windows Recovery?

How the big usb flash drive do I need to create a system of 10 Windows Recovery?

    Yes

    Hello;

Let me welcome you on the HP forums!

There is really no way accurately guess in advance, with one of the reasons being that the options are available when you do this.  An option creates a recovery drive minimum with what is needed to repair the operating system.  Another option creates an image that is able to completely restore the operating system and its partition.  Thus, the size can vary from 4 GB to the size of the partition to the OS.

Myself, I found as build-in recovery to be unreliable, especially those of Ms.  So instead, I use a third-party imaging/restoration solution known as Macrium Reflect.

What I recommend is the following:
    (1) download and install Macrium reflect (MR)
    (2) run M. and choose the option: "Create an image of the partition (s) required to backup and restore Windows" to write a full backup to an external drive or USB key
    (3) use the option to create a CD or a USB startup key

My experience is that SIR, when you use the option of Compression high, typically allows to compress the image file recorded at about 50% of the space USED in the OS partition.  This means that if you have a 40GB and 80GB OS partition is used, MR must only about 20 GB to store the image file.

I use all the time and it usually takes less than 10 minutes to make the backup of the image and at the same time or less do a restore.  In addition, MR has the ability to add a recovery Boot Menu entry.  This then allows you to boot into Windows re, and then you can use it to do a restore - when you cannot start Windows!

NOW, you have the means to restore a full system that works for the external hard drive or USB key in a few minutes.

    Good luck

I'm a volunteer and I do not work for, or represent, HP.

  • Dell DataSafe - 'Create System Recovery' does not recognize my USB flash drive

    Hello

I just set up my new laptop Inspiron and 'Dell DataSafe Local Backup Basic Edition' pops up advising me to "Create system recovery media" restore my system to its critical failure of hard disk factory settings.

It gives me the option to save this on a disk or a USB Flash drive.  I have a drive hard laptop "Western Digital My Passport Essential' that I would use for this, that's why I chose the option of USB Flash drive.  However, I get a message "no USB key not found.

Can someone tell me what I need to do to store the backup recovery system on my laptop hard drive?  (I know a recordable DVD will be probably easier, but I did not and do not want to buy a bunch of them just for that!)

    Any notice received with gratitude.

    Thank you

  • USB flash drive receives an error "volume does not contain a recognized file system" in Windows 7

I plugged my USB on a windows 7. He always invites me to analyze and correct or cancel. I cancelled each time, but I got bored with it popping up each time, so I said to investigate and fix.  A loading screen came so I waited patiently. After that it asks me to format my USB flash drive. I can't format it but because I have files from work to home and all my other personal files out there. So I cancelled the format, but every time that I plug it into my computer it asks t format. I even plugged in on a computer running windows XP and wanted to get in shape. When I try to run it without formatting as it is said, "E:\ is not accessible. The volume does not contain a recognized file system. Please make sure that all required file system drivers are loaded and that the volume is not corrupted. "My question is... what we Windows 7 to my USB and how can I recover my data?

This is common with USB drives used on different operating systems. It happens alwaysto me when I use my drive to work (which is managed since my MacBook Pro) on Vista and Windows 7 client computers. Like you, I learned the hard way you must cancel the digitization of Vista/Win7. The only thing to do at this stage is to connect the player to a computer that can read the files OR use the software of data recovery on it to get the files. I believe that Recuva can do it for free. Format the Flash DRIVE, then start again. Either way, you don't want to use a USB key as a single backup of important files because - as you have unfortunately discovered - stuff happens.
