Question about importing RAW and JPEG

Greetings,

Support of Adobe at the following page talks about the "import and preferences file management Definition:

http://help.Adobe.com/en_US/Lightroom/3.0/using/WSA66356E1-47C3-405f-8E7F-0FD7AAEB0575.htm l

I have a few questions about this, and I would really appreciate your input gtting. (I also posted this question on this page, but I don't know if it was the right place...)

1. that means 'otherwise, Lightroom treats the JPEG in doubles as a file? The JPEG format is not available at all in these circumstances? What can I do with this file "jpeg"? Is located in the same folder as the RAW images?

2. my understanding is that the JPEG image contains the treatment unit (e.g., Vivid, sharpning, etc.); When I import pictures from my Nikon (NEF) raw, LR does not apply to these parameters, and the image I see in LR is * really * gross (i.e., bland and "free upgrades").  If I shoot and bring in JPEG and RAW, LR is it possible to have LR somehow automatically "make RAW image look like the JPEG?

Thank you in advance!

Zevi

(1) No, it simply as an initial overview.  LR replaces this overview as soon as it renderes its own.

(2) the profiles are already built for Nikon and Canon.  Look in the calibration Panel in the develop module.

  • Two questions about Camera Raw and Lightroom

I am now shooting in RAW image format only and catalog images in Lightroom.

My first question is: how to open an image in Camera Raw from Lightroom? When I right-click on an image in Lightroom, it gives me a choice to edit > Photoshop, but does not not the choice of editing in Camera Raw. In fact, when I'm outside of Lightroom and just double-click on one of these RAW images, it opens in Photoshop. What is going on? Before that I installed Lightroom, a double click on a RAW file would force the latter open in Camera RAW.

My second question is: Lightroom seems to have all the same controls during processing of a RAW image as does plug in Camera Raw. Does this mean that I no longer need to open images in Camera Raw? I just did all my settings inside Lightroom? I guess that the xmp file is the same as modified in Lightroom or Camera Raw.

Pleas put me straight on that.

    Thank you

    Ken

    Your second question:

My second question is: Lightroom seems to have all the same controls during processing of a RAW image as does plug in Camera Raw.

Responding to your first. Lightroom and ACR share code, rendering you get from Lightroom with the same parameters is therefore exactly the same as in ACR. What happens is that when you say "Edit in Photoshop", ACR is recalled by Lightroom and the development parameters are passed along. ACR then renders the RAW with these settings and open it in Photoshop. Then, because you already have a working for the settings interface, there is no point in showing them to you once again.

Does this mean that I no longer need to open images in Camera Raw? I just did all my settings inside Lightroom?

It depends on your workflow. I have more if open images in ACR directly like Lightroom offers a more effective interface in my opinion. Other people I'm sure that prefer the approach of Bridge/ACR.

I guess that the xmp file is the same as modified in Lightroom or Camera Raw.

Lightroom is not change the default sidecars. All changes are stored in the database. This allows you to have virtual copies with different parameters of development and more stuff like that. You can have Lightroom write using xmp sidecars "save metadata to file" in menu metadata in library or by turning on the automatic xmp file generation in preferences. There is usually no real point to do this however as "Edit in Photoshop" route works fine. It is really useful when you have a stream of mixed production that still use the bridge. If you share images with others, you are better of DNG, exporter or subsets of images as catalogs with the included images.

  • RAW and Jpeg import in LR3.3

    Hello

Just upgraded to LR3.3; I can now import the RAW files from my Sony A33.  I shot the images using the RAW and JPEG setting.  The import was successful and the extensions of file on the image shows ARW & JPEG.  My question is, how do I access the images separately; RAW and JPEG format.  In IPhoto, the images appear separately.  I am a newbie to LR; any help appreciated.

If you 'Treat JPEG files next to raw as separate photos"checked in your preferences, LR will import ARW and JPEG completely separately and you can access (and work on) two of them. But there will be no automatic synchronization of metadata and other.

If you have this option unchecked, JPEGs are only imported as a so-called "files Sidecar", that you can not look at or for development.

  • Import into LR CC problem when recording RAW and JPEG image camera

I have my unit set up to record the RAW and JPEG formats for each image, but when I import it imports only RAW files.  However, if I take just the RAW or JPEG only it is important as I shoot very well.  I can go to the card and recover JPG files and manually copy them to the directory and then go and import them into LR, but even then, when I'm in the folder they are in they do not appear, but when I go into the parent folder they show.  When the camera creates the FIRST and JPEG files, it gives them exactly the same name except for the extension which indicates if it's RAW format or the. JPG.   I have double and triple checked and the. JPG file is located in the same directory as the RAW file.  When I import the photos I have change the name for a custom name, so when I copy and past the. JPG files in the folder plus the suffix of the file, the file name is also different. How can I solve this problem?

    Hi BullRhino,

Its setting, you need to activate in Lightroom.

Open Lightroom > go to Lightroom preferences > general tab > check the option "Separate processing Jpeg in a file" > restart Lightroom.

    See the screenshot below

Let us know if that helps.

  • RAW and JPEG on the disk, only import RAW files?

I shot some photos this morning, and the camera is set up to generate a RAW and JPEG file (if it's a difference, the camera is a Panasonic Lumix GX1). I copied all the files from the SD card to a folder on an external HARD drive and then tried to import into Lightroom.

In the import dialog box, the only files he showed me import were the RA2 (Panasonic RAW) files, not JPEG files. My first thought was that he decided my name do not import duplicates - but the file names are the same, but extensions are different and the file sizes are different. Why LR would consider that these are duplicates?

Any thoughts on how to get my RAW and JPEG imported?

    Hello

    Greetings!

Yes, there is a setting in the preferences.

    Open Lightroom

Click on edit-> preferences-> Genaral or Lightroom (Windows)-> preferences-> General (MAC)

Check the box below and click ok and relaunch lightroom.

    Now import and check.

  • Raw and jpeg in Lightroom 5 Fuji

This is probably a dumb question with an easy answer, but I am shooting Raw and Jpeg on my Fuji XPro-1 and treatment by LightRoom 5. Most of the time the jpeg gives me everything I need, but sometimes I need the flexibility of a raw, so the jpeg/raw file. I thought that LightRoom would show both me and give me the choice, but when I go to import only RAW format files see the place. Is it possible to access the jpeg or raw when importing?

    Fuji jpeg/raw with L

In the Lightroom preferences, there is an option to process JPEG images next to raw in the form of separate images files. Then you should check this option (that is, make it active) Lightroom will import JPEG format so much raw images, and they will be next to each other.

  • RAW and JPEG shooting - how to reach?

Hi all - I want to shoot in RAW & JPEG tomorrow for an event. I'm sort of a newbie to this, help a friend at the last minute.

I don't have the original software provided with my Rebel T3 (that I read that I would need access to the RAW files).

    So I have 2 questions:

    (1) if I shoot in RAW and JPEG mode, I'll be able to access the correct JPEG files right now?

    (2) is there anywhere I can download free software to be able to access the RAW files then? Or is the software available for purchase as a replacement if you lost yours?

Digital Photo Professional is the free software which provides Canon. You can download the site somewhere.

RAW + JPG mode does let you see that the jpg immediately using software you already have on your computer.

This combo is a good idea since you don't know yet how to deal with RAW files and they seem very dull until you their punch up with some sharpness, contrast, color, etc. I'm not at all familiar with the DPP software.

2 pictures of each shot shooting into space memory fast burns. Take an extra memory card.

  • Why Lightroom5's copy of the RAW and Jpeg formats files in the destination folder?

    Hi all Lightroom experts.

I want to copy the RAW files of my SD dsra on my hard drive Drobo. And every time I did that Lightroom has copied BOTH raw and jpeg files

How to load Lightroom to copy only the RAW files?

Just a little disgress, actually the same problem happens in Adobe Bridge despite me by selecting only the RAW files to copy, but it always copied both!

    Any tips?

    Thank you

You can tell Lightroom to qualify alongside jpg FIRST separate photos, or treat the JPG as a file by following the instructions here:

Lightroom help | Set import preferences

If the JPG file is a sidecar, the JPG is always imported but is not displayed in your library module.

If you don't want to import the jpg files, you will need to select the RAWs, but not the jpgs in the dialog box import; or import them all and then delete the jpgs of Lightroom and your hard drive (easier, but takes a little longer). or don't shoot RAW + JPG

  • RAW and JPEG as a thumbnail?

    Hello

is it possible to display the RAW + JPEG as a thumbnail in Bridge as in Lightroom? I shoot RAW and JPEG and I see the same image 2 times. A BAD Version and a JPEG.

I want to see the two as a thumbnail. They should be grouped. So, if I erase it the RAW and JPEG version is deleted.

    Help, please!

    Kind regards

    Husband

You still don't understand what I mean, and you seem to have no idea what I'm talking about. But it's OK...

Maybe you should read a little more about LR works before you write things you clearly don't know anything.

I explain it one last time: I have RAW and JPEG files. I seek only to RAW files when I sort my photos and I don't want to manually delete the JPEG images. So I wanted to bridge pile JPG + RAW together so they both deleted when I delete the image. It is not difficult to understand in fact

For those who has figured out what my problem was:

I found a script to LR that does exactly what I was looking for in Bridge :-> RAW + JPG battery

So my problem is solved and everything works fine

  • RAW and JPEG management

I'm shooting RAW (for CF card) + JPEG (to SD card) on my Canon 5 d Mk III. When I import into Lightroom 4.1 RC2, I see JPEG and RAW (CR2) image side by side. I have Aperture 3, where the two gets stacked together and I can choose which (JPEG or RAW) is the master.

Is it possible that I can do something similar in Lightroom? It's annoying me for JPEG and RAW side by side in a collection. (Looking for a frame or something automatic happens when importing).

    Thank you!

There is a photo-> stacking autostacking option that can do what you want. It automatically stack at the same time of the capture of images (for example a raw and jpeg from the same exposure). Can you swicth the plus one of a battery of similarly as in Aperture with a copy of the value as master in the Photo menu. I don't think you can do the autostacking immediately upon import, so you will need to invoke the automatic stacking yourself.

  • See RAW and JPEG in two separate photos?

    Hello

Understand that the Photos automatically stacks RAW + JPEG as a photo. Wondering if you guys have found a way of:

1 see separate RAW and JPEG in individual photos?

    2. If this is not possible, is there a way to set default pictures to show the RAW version as photo thumbnail/principal for each fireplace?

Currently trying to find a way to effectively create a workflow involving Photos + Lightroom (raw changes), as well as JPEG/RAW files

    Thank you!

You can do this by selecting the photo stacked and then enter the command ⌘D to duplicate it.  You will see then two separate versions of the same photo.  Open the first version in edit mode and use the command "Image > use RAW original title" to use the RAW file as the original image file, then select the second version and in edit mode and use the command "Image > use JPEG as the original" to use the JPEGfile as the original image file.

You can now see the two versions of the image separately in the browser.  Duplication will only duplicate previews, not the original images. But you can now edit the RAW and JPEG format separately.

There is no option in the user interface of the default RAW version.

  • A question about the methods and parameters.

Hey guys, this is my first post here. I am very new to Java and done a bit of C++ before Java. I had a question about the methods and parameters. I do not understand the methods; I know they can be repeated when it is called, but it's almost everything. I also know that a program should have a class that contains the main method. What I really, really understand on methods is what the parameters are. I know they are in parentheses and that is it. Could you explain what they are? I really appreciate it. Thanks to all in advance. Best regards, Michael

    Taking an example:
Suppose you calculate area of the rectangle you need two inputs one is the length and the width. Area = l X b, where l = length, b = width

If your method, say, calculateAreaOfRectangle (length int, int width) will be two parameters as arguments.

    System.out.println ("field of rectangle:" + calculateAreaOfRectangle (40,30);)

    public int calculateAreaOfRectangle (int length, int width) {}
    int area;
    Area = length * width;
    return of area;
    }

So if you call this method then the output will be returned in 120.

Parameters of a method are simply the input variables for the method of treatment for all calculations or something useful.

And we cannot have methods inside the main method in Java. It is in the java syntax and if you do, it will throw a syntax error.

  • Question about the interruptions and priming

    Hello

I had a few questions about the startup and interruptions in a virtualized environment

Assuming that, plenty of virtualization (no material assistance to virtualization of memory ).

1 initialization: in an ordinary PC, the boot process starts with the BIOS, to expansion ROM, back to the BIOS and MBR secondary boot record, then grub (is it) and finally the operating system. In a virtualized environment with VMM running directly on top of hardware (Native VMM), how is the initialization of the different process, as I understand it takes BIOS-> Expansion ROM - > BIOS-MBR-> other record secondary-> VMM-> OS--> applications >. Am I right on that?

2 breaks: VMM examines the source interruptions prior to the interruption, so in a multicore environment, assuming a 2 processor core, how the VMM decides on the kernel for which the interruption in intended, prior to shipment of the interruption. Interruptions are tag ID, said core ID?

    Thanks in advance

It is simplistic but essentially correct.  A metaphor would be a little better thinking that the hypervisor/vmm is an operating system, except that the process on this operating system are requests or comments OSes.  If the BIOS-> OPROM-> BIOS-> MBR-> hypervisor-> init process of the hypervisor-> reviews of fork () s operating systems.  This can become blurred by the design choices (for example Xen/Hyper-V init start a coded parent hard partition that makes hypercalls privileged to fork() guest OSes; ESXi init runs a very limited subset of applications directly on the hypervisor and ESX Classic is somewhere between these approaches).

There is a subtle distinction between "hypervisor" and "www."  The "hypervisor" is the operating system of single root (e.g. ESX) who interacts directly with the hardware and has access to everything; a hypervisor is not to be used to run virtual machines.  When we talk about a "hypervisor", the tendency is to describe something which is a BONE (although usually a minimal OS designed only to run virtual machines).  The "www" is the layer that allows a virtual machine run: it provides the interposition, virtualization and emulation services and can be plural (for example a vmm by guest operating system).  Architecture of VMware deal with these two separate components, while most other virtualization platforms merge the two.

Strictly speaking, the interruption is not transmitted to a guest operating system - receives the hypervisor (or rather the VMM it transmits to the hypervisor), the hypervisor drivers interpret the interruption (for example reading package of NIC, I/O process of HBA, the timer tick completion), then after a new appropriate break in the guest OS.
