Question about reinstalling windows on a laptop that came with it, but the hard drive failed and had to be replaced.

OK, until recently, the hard drive of my laptop couldn't, and I had to replace, no biggie, I really care about this laptop in any case. Then I threw ubuntu top and let it go from there. But recently, I wonder, if I could get windows again for her, for free. I am sure that it is not under warranty, but I could go and check of 90 percent. I have no back ups for it because it was cheap.

If my HARD drive crashes and I have to replace, can I reinstall Windows 7 on the same computer? How the product key is affected? He still believes that I am still on the old HDD?

    Yes.

    Not at all.

    N °

If you have Windows 7 with an OEM license agreement (it came pre-installed on the computer is the most likely scenario for this, but you can buy OEM copies so) or you have a license to retail (upgrade or full version) - the way your question is worded is very specific - you * can * install Windows 7 costs/clean on this same system as much as you wish.  A new hard drive won't stop you activation - well that at some point, you need to activate by phone, as opposed to over the Internet.

Now - if the motherboard is replaced and it's licensed OEM and replacement was not that of the OEM that probably set up your computer...  Then you have a problem.

Unless you happen to have a license of Windows 7 retail sales, so it is not related to the computer (motherboard).

  • I want to save my email and then reinstall it after that I have to wipe the hard drive.

I'll update the hard drive wiping and reloading the software I want, get rid of the junk that I have collected over the years. I backed up my data, photos and music from My Documents, etc. but I can't figure out how I can save my email so that when I reinstall Thunderbird I can just empty files saved in the program and I'm back in business. I'm sure that's not hard, but I don't know the meaning of "Computerese" I get lost in technical language. How can I do this?

    Thanks for your help.

If you have saved your whole Documents & Settings (or 'Users' since Vista) then you have probably already what you need.

Thunderbird stores your data and profile settings.

I accidently deleted pictures from the camera chip while it was in drive d:, but before that I copied them to the hard drive.  Is there a way to recover?

    Hello

What version of Windows are you using?

If it is deleted from the memory card, it can not be recovered. However, there are some third-party applications or the tool that will help you recover photos. If you have saved the pictures on the hard drive and deleted, so you can check in the trash.

  • Question about reinstalling Windows after virus/malware crashed the system

OK, I'm not exactly super tech savvy but I can manage.  Here's my dilemma.  I clicked a bad link in a Yahoo search and started getting all sorts of flashing messages that my laptop has been infected.  The next thing I know... Windows (I have Vista) crashed and does not now.

Question #1 - so... can I spend $85 and make it my buddy to the computer to reinstall Vista... or can I invest in upgrading to Windows 7?

Question #2-si I do it myself, can I just go ahead an installation of Windows 7 since I have no operating system on it because Vista won't load?

I'd appreciate any help I can get with that.  I really think that whatever it is, I would be smart to buy Windows so I have to drive since it is not come with the laptop or my all-in-one.

    Thank you!!!

    Hello

If necessary, you can record all necessary data (files) by putting the hard drive as 2nd in another computer
or in an external box and copy of the data on the removable memory (CD, DVD, USB key or)
    others).

The physical disks in Vista can be purchased cheaply system machine since you already own windows.
Ask them about Windows 7 as they could also make a case here. Normally, it would be more advantageous for you
to buy the disks of Vista and then upgrade to Windows 7 (unless the system manufacturer has a special offer).
Before upgrade you to Windows 7 make sure that the system and the software will run you on it.

To run the Upgrade Advisor you will need Vista work. Check with your system manufacturer support
and/or support of any specific manufacturer of the device to make sure the drivers are available for your system.

  • Re: Questions about reinstalling Windows XP

    Hello...
I have a portable satellite, and I must confess that I do not understand why everything should be formatted when reinstalling the system.
I have several questions if someone could help please.

Is it possible to reinstall Windows without losing programs installed?
If I use the restore CD, all partitions will be deleted or only C:?

    Thank you very much!!

    > Is it possible to reinstall Windows without losing programs installed?
No, because programs written entries in the Windows registry and sometimes in the Windows folder.
If you need to reinstall all programs after reinstallation of Windows.

    > If I use the restore CD, all partitions will be deleted or only C:?
If you use the recovery disk will be formatted the whole HARD drive then back up your data first.
After reinstalling Windows, you save your data on the HARD disk again.

  • Windows 7 says this isn't authentic after changing the HARD drive and can not activate

After a Windows Update I received a notice that my version of windows was not authentic, which is false because I had windows on my laptop because I got it 4 years ago. Recently, I had to have the changed HARD drive as it corrupts. Installed new HARD drive and partition it a space in which the old files to hard drives. Seemed to turn very well when HARD drives were exchanged and windows installed on the new drive until windows update. My Microsoft certificate key is passed out to illegible but I don't have the product key for the OEM version. Any help would be great, thanks.

If Windows was preinstalled on your computer, you can enable using the code from the sticker on the computer.  If you can not read the sticker more, you will need to contact the computer company he built.

If you purchased Windows from the store, you can enable using the code of the case/box/CD.  If you can't read it, you must contact the retailer who sells to you.

  • P7-1490 Pavilion saying that the hard drive needs to be repaired or replaced

Could Netflix streaming on the computer and look at the poster on the monitor have shortened the life expectancy of the hard drive at all?  Otherwise, I do not use the computer that much, and I'm surprised that the drive lasted only 1 1/3 years.  What part of a computer using streaming more?  The processor, hard drive, both?

No, I sincerely doubt that the photos could cause such a problem.

If the drive is empty, do a full format (not quick format) to make it clean.

Just to be sure, it will be useful if you could do a bad sector scan.

  • Had a hard drive crash and had to reinstall Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro Extended.  None of the serial numbers or activation codes I have used in the past are considered to be "valid" at the entrance.  Help!

Hard drives fail.  When they do, I have to reload all my programs on the new drive.  Everything goes without a hitch, BUT for ADOBE ACROBAT.  How can I get this program purchased a valid activation code or serial number?  I'm supposed to have a perpetual license, technical support function.  The Chat group is not able to help, for some unknown reason.  Adobe makes more difficult every time it happens for me to get the program run again.  Makes me want to switch to another program.  [email protected] is my email.  Thank you!

    your serial number is unchanged.

Use the installation file of the program (acrobat 9 pro ext) that corresponds to your serial number.

  • Questions about reinstalling Windows XP after the end of Support

Several members of the family of my friends that I sometimes provide technical assistance for are still under XP SP3 on their systems.  These systems are too outdated and underpowered to upgrade to a newer version of Windows, and it will probably be some time until they are able to upgrade to a more recent hardware capable of running most modern versions of Windows.

If in the meantime, something happens to one of their computers requiring a reinstall of Windows after support for XP purposes, but before they can get a newer computer, I have a few questions about what will happen:

    1. Is there still a way to activate their existing copies of XP during installation process?
    2. While I understand that new patches, updates, patches & will be is no longer provided, existing patches will be available through the Microsoft Update service so that I would be able to get those computers to update state that they would be about to XP supported ends, or do I have to search elsewhere to try & find these updates?  (It would be nice if Microsoft put up a cumulative update that would be sort of a mega-patch for people in this situation to be able to get back to the most current state systems, but I would not be surprised if there wasn't such a thing).

Anyone know the answers to these questions?

    Thank you

You should be able to clean install and activate Windows XP.  You should be able to upgrade as well, even if the wise move would be to get the updates stored on portable media or integrated into a multimedia installation (or both) as soon as POSSIBLE if the plan is to continue using Windows XP for a while.

My suggestion is to set up and to buy Windows 7 Professional renovated systems / lease from places like TigerDirect.com - as pricing is generally about the same as just a license for Windows 7 or a little professional, the hardware specifications of these machines are likely machines Windows XP current in use, using something like the PC Mover take care of Laplink and Microsoft to move files (or for the more than 25 USD the) applications that can be moved as well) to the new system of the former is possible, and Windows 7 will get updated until 2020.

Recently research I've seen systems to Windows 7 Professional for as little as 150 USD with 4 GB of memory and dual core processors.  Not bad.
