Question about "split partition" command

Hello

I have the following partitioned table...

CREATE TABLE trans_tab
(

TRANS_ID number (10),
DATE OF TRANS_DATE,
CONSTRAINT PK_TRNS_ID PRIMARY KEY (TRANS_ID))
PARTITION BY RANGE (TRANS_DATE)
(PARTITION TRANS_2010 VALUES LESS THAN (TO_DATE ("2010-10-01 00:00:00 ',' SYYYY-MM-DD HH24:MI:SS ',' NLS_CALENDAR = GREGORIAN '")) TABLESPACE TRANS_2010,)
PMAX VALUES LESS THAN (MAXVALUE) TABLESPACE TRANS_MAX PARTITION);

Now, I intend to add a partition, as shown below...

ALTER table split partition pmax trans_tab at (TO_DATE (' 2012-10-01 00:00:00 ',' SYYYY-MM-DD HH24:MI:SS ',' NLS_CALENDAR = GREGORIAN ')) in (2012 partition, partition pmax);

The command above split partition worked well and ended quickly in the TEST environment which had only 100 records. I now intend to do in the production, which has about 90 MM records in the table. Here are my questions...

(1) I will try to find how long would the "split partition" command to run into a table that has ~ 90 mm record table the command "split partition" to physically move the records or just logically to remap the records to the appropriate partition? If it is logical remapping, I guess that the split command would complement quickly even against a huge table... Could check you?

(2) in the TEST environment, I checked the non partitioned status of the global and the local index after splitting the partiton and they look good? Should I be rebuild the index after splitting the partition?

Thanks for your time...

Assuming he has no line of 2012 year in partition PMAX, the SPLIT would create a vacuum PMAX anew. However, it has the maximum value of TRANS_DATE in the PMAX partition - so he must sweep the partition (or use a LOCAL index on the partition, if available). Therefore, depending on how it can identify lines, it may take a little time.

I think that the current PMAX partition is not empty (that is, it has lines of 2011). As a result, a SPLIT will cause GLOBAL Indexes to score UNUSABLE unlesss you use the UPDATE GLOBAL INDEXES.

Was your test with the actual number of lines to PMAX?

    Hi readers,

    Bought Satellite Pro A200 last Nov. I am looking for what is called hidden Hidden 1.5 GB partition. I thought he would have shown in disk management.

    I started pressing F8 for advanced boot options, as the manual says, the repair option is not listed.
    Other users had this experience? Although I have the recovery disk.

    Hello David

    To be honest, I don't understand what you want. To make things clear: If your laptop is preinstalled with the Vista operating system this WinRE (Windows Recovery Environment) partition will be automatically created and this option is listed in disk management.

  • Question about RMAN DUPLICATE command

    Oracle version: 10.2
    Operating system: Solaris 10

    To create a physical standby DB, I'll take full DB more backup archivelog on main site and copy it to the location of the previous day.
    I'm going to standby mode,
    startup nomount pfile=/path/init.ora
    rman target sys/password@primDB auxiliary /

    RMAN> run {
    allocate channel t1 device type disk;
    allocate auxiliary channel t2 device type disk;
    duplicate target database for standby nofilenamecheck;
    }
    1. is it true that I need to keep the full backup on the main site when you run the RMAN DUPLICATE backup server? In the affirmative. Why? We have already copied the full backup to the backup site. Right?

    2. why the command DORECOVER is optional?

    3. several archived newspapers may have been generated after that full backups have been copied to the backup site. When you run the backup site COPY command, RMAN will extract the info again newly generated primary and apply automatically in standby mode?

    Hello;

    I keep the RMAN backup on the primary until the copy is complete, so my RMAN catalog know about it. Sound cleaner this way. What magic RMAN can or can not do with it is not very important IMHO.
    Don't forget that the news of the eve doesn't have to be registered with RMAN, because it is the same database as the main. However you can use a tape with the method too, so it's probably more to do with not having to repeat the same backup if you make a mistake.

    I've never had to use a DORECOVER to a double never. Completing this task at least 30 times and I think 'optional' is not a word strong enough. According to the doc DORECOVER specifies that RMAN should recover the database after it is created. I've never had to use it. See this doc for more information:

    http://docs.Oracle.com/CD/B19306_01/backup.102/b14194/rcmsynta028.htm

    On move any what archiving log new expectations before to start the double so the news of the day before can start working immediately, without additional measures. Usually the Data Guard will begin apply immediately and have RMAN does not do anything. None of the notes has any special note for additional archives moving after starting two copies. RMAN duplicates and Data Guard apply struggling upward.

    Here are my notes on this topic: (these works on Oracle 10 or 11 of the Oracle)

  • Satellite Pro P200 - 1EE: Question about two partitions on the disk with Vista

    Hello

    I've had my laptop for 2 months now and when I click on computer to watch my hard drive there are two; 1 called vista (: c) and other data (: E).
    Why is it two hard disks?
    And called Vista one 21.5 GB free and the other has 71.2 GB free.
    So if we get full my laptop will automatically use it?

    Thank you.

    Hello

    According to my experience, the Vista operating system to the second partition for data backup. It s necessary and important if you want to restore or repair the Windows operating system. This is a new feature in Vista!

    > So if you get full my laptop will automatically use it?
    No, it will automatically switch to the other partition if the first partition is full.
    You must point to the second partition if you want to store data on this second partition.

  • Satellite Pro C660 - 21(d): question about the partitions on the HARD disk

    Hello

    I just started using my new satellite pro c660 - 21 d

    My office has drive c, d, u, s
    C either windows 7, Vista D
    The drive U is 342 meg in size

    I didn't have the disk in two 230 gig drive so thoughtless narrowed C drive of 70 GB and D drive with 10 gig (it's the primary recovery partition

    I have now two empty partitions of 170 Gig (from c drive)
    and 214 Gig (from d drive)
    But windows will only allow me to add one as a disc of the user
    He says may not have more than 4

    The reason for being there is a partition of Active recovery without letter.

    I can't unshrink drive C or drive D then I went with 170 GB of unused space.

    I guess that a solution would be to lose the data disk 10 gig that contains the recovery software but then I don't have a backup.

    Suggestions as to what I could do to work around this problem.

    I am now under the Create recovery disks (2 of them) so maybe I could remove one of the partitions after.

    I don't know why he answered instead of edition, but if the recovery disc creation complete with no errors, I can remove the hard drive?

    Does anyone know if I can delete the first partition and have just two?-only 15 MB/1.45 GB is used I can resize?
    I present the same for everyone or is it just me?

    Thank you very much

    William

    Hi wsb123,

    (> Partition-1 1.46 GB Active recovery) hidden
    It's the Windows recovery environment partition. On this HARD drive are for the repair of the system files if Windows can start t more. It s a Windows feature and has nothing to do with Toshiba. This partition, you can find on all installations of Windows 7.
    -Online http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Recovery_Environment

    > Partition-2 580 active GB (drive c)
    With other words, the primary partition because on it a Windows is installed with all your files. Nothing unusual ;)

    > partition-3 12.5 GB Active (HIdden) (know toshiba recovery thing is here)
    As you have already written s the Toshiba Recovery for file recovery partition.

    So I t understand the problem. Everything is normal, and if you install Windows recovery disk you have at least 3 partitions.

  • Question about the partitions on my HARD drive

    My hard drive is divided as follows:

    (1) 1.46 GB recovery Active
    (2) 455 GB C: primary partition
    (3) partition primary gb 9,27

    If the partition of 1.46 GB ensures recovery system (such tiny disc?), what the gb 9.27 partition for?
    Please?

    Hello

    Hmm, I think that 3) gb 9.27 primary partition contains also the Toshiba recovery system files.
    The point is that you can create the recovery disk using the preinstalled Toshiba Recovery creator tool. This tool could create image contain the Win 7 32 bit and 64 bit OS.
    I think that the 10 GB are necessary so that

  • Question about the partitions on satellite Pro L300-164

    I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro L300 and it came with vista on the 1 74 GB partition and a data partition 73 GB but it has a folder called HARD drive recovery, but I want Vista to all of the 140 gb and have the recovery partition on a small partition of 4 GB for HARD drive recovery.

    Is this possible without mucking up the HARD drive recovery?

    No, is not possible, but that you can and should do is create recovery DVDs.
    After doing this, you can remove this folder and organize partition how you want it to be.
    Remember that you will lose the ability to install the operating system from the disk using F8 and repair my computer option.

    If a problem occurs, you can install Vista using this recovery DVDs.
    Please note: after installation of recovery, you will have the same structure divides again and all your saved data will be gone.

  • Question about deleting partition 'Recovery '...

    Thanks to all who read this post.

    What I want to ask that it is on the deletion of "Recovery" partition and merge it with the system. I was thinking of doing this tonight:

    1. - create the recovery on three DVD-L single discs layers HP brand DVD.

    2. - I hope that I will be able to enter certain partition management application and with this OS 'Merge' partition disks and a recovery in one big partition.

    3 - reinstall completely default OS and software in this one big partition.

    4 - be happy using every inch of space from my hard drive.

    Well now that I was dreaming and that is why I came here my friends HP colleagues to ask you, if I do the foregoing, things will be good? I mean I'm missing something?

    Please advice me, someone must have tried that before...

    Thank you!

    After your set, recovery disk use the procedure HERE to delete the partition. However_if you use recovery reinstall the value will just re-create the recovery partition and reinstall Windows, forcing them to repeat the deletion process.

  • Question about backup validate command datafile

    DB version: 10 gr 2, 11 2 GR

    Is the following command intended to control block corruption in the original or data file is that he intended to check if this file rman backup is suitable for restoration?
    backup validate datafile 1;
    Is equivalent to the command above in 11g
    validate datafile 1;
    Right?

    The two are brought together.

    The command POST to check corrupt blocks and missing files, or to determine if a set of backups can be restored.
    If backup validation detects corrupted blocks, then RMAN updates the view DATABASE_BLOCK_CORRUPTION of V$ with lines that decry the corruptions. After that a corrupted block is fixed, the line identifier this block is removed from the view.

    Oracle 11g,

    The VALIDATE command options are semantically equivalent to the options for the BACKUP VALIDATE command.

  • Question about partitions on Equium A100-027

    Hi all!

    I'm new to the forum but have been hidden for a while and he thought at the time that I said "Hello".

    This and the fact that I have a question about my laptop Satellite A100-027.
    The hard drive on my laptop seems to be divided into three partitions = Vista (c) / data (E :) / WinRE (d) with the WinRE (D :) is quite small but others, quite large.))

    My C drive is up to 3 that GB free with about 35 GB of free data (E :) is possible to merge these two to give me a big drive? And if so, how?
    Please excuse my ignorance, but it seems impossible to me to "get my head around" this thing hard drive and would split the a large hard drive.

    Any help would be greatly appreciated and once again, Hello to all.

    Hello

    As the user previous already said, you can manage HARD drive partitions in disk management settings.

    If you n t want to have a data partition (e) then you can try to delete it in disk management.
    Then you can add this empty space of the HARD drive for other partitions on the HARD drive.

    But note; the empty space will be placed at the end of the HARD drive. I don't know if your C partition is placed as a second HARD drive partition, but if so, then it should be no problem to add empty space to partition C (System) of m.

  • Question about the recovery partition

    Hello.

    I have a question about the recovery of HARD drive partition.

    If I do the operation to clear the hard disk option in the wizard it will remove * all * or it will keep my partition recovery in this way I can come back later. I want to know because I would like to put on a different OS.

    I know he said he would, but caution in the PDF, I found it says that on a normal recovery too (that he would remove each partition) and I'm a little confused about how the recovery actually worked.

    Thank you.

    Hey Buddy,

    To be honest I n don't know what you mean exactly with this option to erase.

    In General, Toshiba Recovery disk will wipe your entire HDD to restore factory settings correctly. This means that if you start from that disk and follow the instructions on the screen, everything will be removed.

    In addition, the recovery disk doesn t create a recovery partition. It is not available. Disk copy just the files on the second partition in folder HDDrecovery to start an installation of HARD drive recovery.

  • Question about Table of Partition MBR

    I have a Toshiba laptop running Vista Home Premium SP2 with processor Dual-Core of AMD Athlon 64 X 2, 1 GB of ram and 150 GB of HARD drive.

    My question is about the partition table in MBR. It shows 4 partitions it.

    I have the Ultimate Boot CD, so I took a look at the MBR. Here are 4 partitions occupying its table:

    1. (without drive letter)-file system: blank - EISA config partition type code'n - 1.46 GB -: x 27
    2 C: - fs: ntfs - system, boot, primary, active partition - 92,01 GB - code: x 07
    3 D: - fs: ntfs - primary - 5.98 f - code: x 07
    4. (without drive letter)-fs: blank - primary - 5,64 GB - code: x 17

    c: is free of 17%, d: is 99% free, the other two are 100% free

    Can you explain what the purpose of D:? What about the other two (with no drive letter)? I read somewhere that ' x 17' code means "hidden IFS (ex: HPFS)' & 'x 27' means a rescue partition... true?". Do I need them, or I can remove the part'ns 3 (other than c :) & make use of space?

    Looks like the recovery and BIOS utilities. You need to check with Toshiba so one any of them can be deleted.

  • Question about the differences in commands

    Hey guys -.

    I just had a few questions about the differences between orders that seem to perform the same function.  Can you let me know if an order is more preferable to the other and what the difference is.  I would really appreciate it as it I currently practice some INE laboratories and I see that orders change from lab to lab.  Thanks advance!

    1. When you write a static NAT for specific host 1 - is - this important if I understand the 32 subnet?

    EX: static (inside, outside) 1.1.1.1, 2.2.2.2 VS static (inside, outside) 1.1.1.1 2.2.2.2 netmask 255.255.255.255

    2. when I'm setting up a router as a CA server and it is necessary to "export" the key, whatever my method of exporting the key?  If so, in which method call for which solution?

    EX: key export cryptographic rsa ciscox pem URL nvram: cisco VS. exporting key 3des cryptographic ciscox pem 3des rsa terminal cisco

    3. If I have to mark a packet with a DSCP of X value, matter if I use the 'set dscp' VS 'set ip dscp?  If so, what is the difference?

    FXY

    Policy-map X

    class X

    the dscp X value

    VS

    Policy-map X

    class X

    X ip dscp value

    I guess pertaining to 2, if i was speaking in terms of from a cisco router to another cisco router - would terminal be acceptable?

    Yes, the "Import cryptographic key" command can take a url and also from the terminal entrance. In this terminal case wil is much easier.
