question iMac i7 to power 2011

Greetings,

I think I'm having an interesting eating problem and I hope that someone with an Apple hardware experience could read this before blindly, I replace the power supply (and spend money, I don't).

I have a 2011 27 "iMac12, 2. Model A1312 EMC No. 2429, iMac Core i7 3.4 GHz. 12 GB of memory running 10.9.5 with the latest updates. 8 GB of third party RAM and an SSD of third with OWC temperature sensor cable. Fans will work perfectly and normally respond with this SSD and cable.

This is a long post, but I think I describe an interesting problem. So read on if you want. Otherwise - thanks anyway.

I am an electronics engineer and use Macs for a long time. But don't have the inside scoop and experience with the power of the iMac and logic boards, maybe an Apple technician will see this and be able to answer a few questions I have.

This computer has been great for years of work but began acting strangely in the last week. I noticed that he wouldn't wake up from his sleep, and then I noticed during active use would block after about 45 minutes or an hour or two.

Sometimes, I'd get the (pizza wheel) spinning wait cursor when in the finder, then for each open application that I would try to activate it once that this started happening I couldn't recover from it. The box to force out would not come to the top. Only a (switch) forced shutdown and restart would bring the computer to life.

When the problem occurs, I'd get the spinning wait cursor, no response from the keyboard. Windows remains visible on the screen can be moved, but otherwise don't would not respond and applications would hang.

When you run properly, the OS and applications behave normally and appear to be catchy as ever.

I did a lot of troubleshooting. It felt like a problem of material for me.

I first turned off the Bluetooth, then removed all external devices and connected a wired keyboard and mouse. The problem occurs when you are logged in different user accounts and not appear related to a specific application. When she fails the computer stops responding on the network as well.

I started in safe mode which did not help.

I ran after each failed disk utility and reboot. The third internal SSD seems fine and passes check and permissions check every time.

I did a virus scan. No detection.

I ran the diagnostics of material. Usually happened, he only missed once during the test expanded memory after an hour. I then removed the 8 GB of RAM third leaving only the original Apple 4 GB of RAM installed. The successful test material. Sounds like bad RAM?

No, Frost continues with only the Apple installed memory. I think the hardware test failed, because the power supply problem would happen after a time anyway.

I turned off the screen saver and sleep so I could see the contents of the screen when it failed and during that time, tried to use the machine for a normal job. I have to prepare taxes and screen 27 "is very useful at the time so I can open lots of windows. But the computer crashes as I get into my work.

Finally, I pulled my copy of HardWare monitor (v4.99) and noted the various sensors. I noticed that the voltage sensor shows two voltages, 12 volts for the MXM graphics module which seems stable and right around 12 volts.

The other specified voltage is the provision of CPU. I guess this is supposed to be 1.2 volts. But it varies - much.

The offer varies 1.2 Volt to as low as 0.87 volts. It must be the way out of the standard if it is supposed to be a supply of 1.2 volt.

So the first question, is that really supposed to be 1.2 volt? I don't know about you, but this makes sense to me.

Then the provision of 1.2 volt regulated on the power Board or regulated on the logic board? In other words, replacing the power supply would be an interesting test?

But here's the interesting part: the voltage INCREASES to 1.2 volts and becomes stable if I give compliant to do computing. I started to run the chess playing program computer vs computer. The tension immediately stabilized at 1.2 volts and looked good! I was expecting to fall!

Who knows what is happening with this switching power supply? The increase in workload may actually it wrong in appropriate regulations. That being the case, I'll keep the computer play chess in the background while I work on my taxes that I monitor the voltage and see if this prevents crashes until I can replace the power supply, or something else.

Thanks for reading.

Greetings,

I solved this problem. It was pretty weird. On the way, I discovered that it is normal that the voltage of the CPU has to vary, it is a feature of the processor Intel 2600 for energy savings. I discovered that gel that happened exactly one hour after re-powered to the top of my iMac. Exactly. It was too weird. It turns out that my Crucial SSD drive has a bug in the firmware that comes after 5200 hours of operation and then every hour thereafter, requiring a power cycle to get it going again. The problem is described here. I'll replace the SSD with a larger (from another manufacturer!) rather than trying to update its firmware.

Why my iMac (27 inch, mid 2011) cannot run Windows 10 in boot camp? And if he can't, he would work in something like parallels?

To be honest, Windows 10 is compatible with your Mac, but Apple does not release from Windows 10 drivers for it. There are various guides on the Internet to install the drivers for Boot Camp Windows 10 even if your Mac is not supported, but follow them at your own risk (don't forget that you won't receive help to make).

However, you are free to run Windows 10 on a virtual machine. To do this, you can use Parallels, VMware or VirtualBox, but remember that a virtual machine will give you less performance than Windows natively on your iMac. Read-> Windows in BootCamp or Virtual Machine?

  • Should I update iMac 21.5 mid 2011?

When I got my new iMac iRetina my old iMac was put in mothballs. By this, I mean that he sat at a desk not used for more than a year. My wife wants to start using it and I just turned it on and a miracle happened, it works. I thought I had left it in a State ready to be configured for a new user, but it is apparently already configured to connect to my apple id because I see an option to close your session with my name on it. Two questions: 1) how that it is configured to check? Since we went with the iOS devices, we used the same ID apple so if we buy apps, they are working on one of the devices. (2) it is a 21.5 "mid-2011 with an Intel Core i5 to 2.7 ghz and 1333 mhz 24 GB DDR memory. He is currently in OS X Lion 10.7.5. What OS should I update 1) this iMac can deal with good performance and 2) is free? Did someone using Open Office for the iMac? If yes it you please?

    1. System Preferences > users and groups > Admin account

System Preferences > iCloud > sign in

If it is not configured as you wish, the easiest would be to wipe the drive with disk utility and reformat. Then, in the wizard configuration, make your choice.

    2. you can upgrade directly to El Capitan 10.11.5

In General, you should always pass to the last possible system like you meet the specs for, as long as you do not have "must have" applications that do not meet specifications. https://support.Apple.com/kb/SP728?locale=en_US

Several things you should do before moving...

    1. If you have questions on your current system don't their compound by installing above them. Solve them first, and then upgrade.

    2. check HARD drive for free space. At least 8.8 GB of available storage. Preferably more.

    3. check your applications for compatibility here... http://roaringapps.com/apps

4 make a bootable clone SuperDuper! or clone double or use TimeMachine.

    5. unplug all devices, including USB hubs.

    6. After downloading the installer, it will be in the folder/Applications. Copy and then drag it to a different places like downloads.

7 be patient, the download takes a long time, and the installation may appear as sometimes it is dead. Ignore it.

  • Problem Windows/Bootcamp Partition with unsupported Mac (iMac 21.5 "mid-2011)

I tried many door routes stealth to install Windows 10 on my iMac (21.5 inch, mid-2011; 1 TB SATA disk), which seems to be not taken in charge by Apple. Whenever I try to use Bootcamp to try to establish a partition, in the end it cuts and force restarts my computer.

I decided to make my own (150 GB, FAT MS-DOS) partition and a bootable USB stick with all the files .iso on it. The bootable USB key works very well and can get into Boot EFI without problem. The score, according to the EFI boot and Windows Installer, "has a table of MBR partition...". [and] Windows can only be installed on GPT disks. »

I tried to format the partition to NTFS by using the command-line Windows, such as proposed in the link below, but after downloading the Tuxera NTFS file to move the .iso to the Windows partition image file (I guess to make its own bootable drive) the drive itself is not started.

In fact, the Windows partition came not in the start screen (hosting option after reboot OR allowing the computer initiate by itself).

    https://www.reddit.com/r/Mac/comments/3rzxd5/guide_windows_10_bootcamp_on_unsupp orted_macs.

After trying to format this partition using the Windows command line, Windows begins to remove it and provides the same error message. After some research, I found that the partitions are hybrid and need for special maintenance. I tried to use gpart, but when trying to convert ONLY TPG, took place the message in a terminal:

Caveat! Main partition table overlaps the first partition of 32 blocks!

You need to remove this partition or resize in another utility.

Caveat! Secondary partition table overlaps the last partition of

    33 blocks!

You need to remove this partition or resize in another utility.

I activated the command 'csrutil disable' in Recovery Mode in order to bypass the Protection of the integrity of the system, I found that some users of El Capitan were problems with this.

I was not able to proceed to the question since this last error and I'm not sure how to proceed, especially because I don't want to lose my data on my Mac hard drive. If anyone knows any information on how I should proceed, please let me know!

    1. you use Boot EFI on a preUEFI computer.

    2. to help TO do a FAT32 partition will also create a hybrid MBR. Please after the release of

    sudo fdisk/dev/disk0

    3. you need not of Tuxera, because Windows install has already the ability to convert FAT to NTFS.

    4. your built-in optical drive works? If so, your W10 ISO burn to a physical DVD and try to follow the standard installation of the BCA.

  • iMac G3 stuck power button / stop

So, I bought a G3 iMac on eBay. It's a PowerMac 2.2 If you need this information.  A few months later, the power button is stuck in. So I have to keep hitting the power button to get it to turn on. And if I shake the computer, you can turn off. All solutions on how to get this button to be able to take off. The computer was probably not the best handle I see a few pieces chipped through the case and the door for the RAM has tape on it since there is nothing to hold the bottom.

The initially supplied with your iMac keyboard has a power button.  If you use this keyboard, can you use this button to power instead?

    Hello

On all laptop computers from Toshiba, Toshiba Power Saver is installed and this application is responsible for control the modules and CPU cooling.
The brightness of the LCD screen, you can set with the additional application called FN keys.
The FN + F6 or FN + F7 combination controls the brightness of the screen.
The Extension of power unknown to me.

I put t know what you want to do with the use of this device as the primary monitor, but I suppose you want to set the external monitor as the primary monitor. Am I wrong?
As far as I know it of not possible to set the external monitor as the primary monitor.

You can switch to the external display or you can use extended desktop on the second monitor but it of not possible to define as main screen.

  • Question of ThinkPad T450s Power adapt

Hi guys, this is my first post

I want to buy the Thinkpad T450s soon (US version) for my personal use. My only concern about this is that the power adapter can operate with the South American power (220V, 60 Hz), because the United States 110V operation as far as I know.

Only the product specification is as follows: country Pack 45W AC adapter / CC of the United States (2 pins).

PS: I sent this question a week ago to Lenovo support and they did not respond, so I take this way.

    Thanks in advance.

Power adapter 110-240V, then it should work, I use mine in Europe, you just use the adapter and the end to match your outlet in the country.

You don't need a new computer.   You will need the adapter to the plug, that's all.   Mac run on any voltage from 100 to 250.   You will be able to buy tha adapter of any electric store.

I believe you can buy adapters to travel in any store of large 'Boots '.
