  Hi people,

  I'm trying to consolidate as many VM in simple ESXi servers on HP on AMD Opteron blades with 32 CPU available logic (based on the number on the vSphere console)

  Can anyone here please share some thoughts and comments about what is the best indication to avoid adding more VMS that ESXi hosts can treat?

  I must ensure that the number of vCPU altogether exceed is not 32 logic processor available, or it can be more than that?

  Running a script powershell LucD to collect CPU ready percentage shows that some virtual machines had prepared more than 10% CPU (for the most part 2 x vCPU) up to 22% (this one with 8 x vCPU)

  I had the same situation on HP Blade and DL serer with two different CPU vendors.

  Intel CPU based on my experiences, has better performance compared to AMD CPU when the CPU is too committed on ESXi server.

  I have HP BL460c G6 and G7 on one of our sites, the server has 12 physical and 24 cores logic core.

  I assigned four cores to each customers (to fix the voice problem) and virtual machines are working properly, RDY CPU is less than 5% in general and there is no performance problem.

  Each blade server hosts 20 VMs and total virtual cores are 80 cores, so we attribute 1:3 (Physics: virtual) core.

  On the other hand, I DL585 G7 on our sites some server has 64 physical cores (4 Sockets and each catches have 16 cores). Servers host 50 active VMs usually but RDY CPU is greater than 10% or 7% on them. Total virtual cores are 200 and CPU assignment ratio is 3.

  I think that, if you want to optimize performance on AMD CPU, 1:1 or 1:2 CPU assignment report is the best choice.

• Questions about adding a NAS to the existing environment

  We have an existing deployment of VI with an EMC SAN and three ESX host.  We would like to add additional storage to NAS and storage ISO tests.  To do this, we were going to set up a RHEL 5 server, as others on the forum have done and use NFS to provide a data store for ESX.  However, I have some questions that I found only partial answers on the forum.

  (1) is there a performance by adding NAS on the network of IP storage for the existing deployment of VI?  Our EMC SAN uses iSCSI to provide a storage boxes currently.  Mix iSCSI and NFS on the IP storage networking a bad idea to turn performance and stability?  Anyone done this?  Looks like a logical thing to do that many small deployments may not afford to buy company for test/development equipment and storage ISO.

  (2) what are the security implications of placing an NFS server on Red Hat-based IP storage network?  How to do this safely?  All posts of forum and documentation of security seem to focus on the need to separate the traffic of IP storage (which is clear text) to run virtual machines or physical servers.  In order to add the NAS on the network of storage, we allow access to the Red Hat server for IP storage network.

  (3) is there a way to limit the traffic on the network interface facing the storage over IP to NFS network only?  We would be two interfaces on the server Red Hat to fight against it, as our network of IP storage is not returned to the other networks in some way.  It is an isolated network by design, for security reasons.  Thus, we would need an interface connected to the stroage and one IP network that is connected to one of our management systems.

  I can understand a problem of pure load.  What I meant is there at - it a greater load on the servers simply having to use two different storage (NFS and iSCSI) protocols?  Or is it better to use iSCSI on the storage of test/development device so that we only configuring and using a storage Protocol?

  There is some overhead in the vmkernel, but it is also to be expected.

  I think that it is at the heart of the case.  I don't use a full OS is the way to go for me.  I'm really a Windows administrator and my knowledge of Red Hat is somewhat lacking.  On this basis, it may be preferable to use a storage OS like Openfiler or NexentaStor.  Do you have an opinion on which one is more stable or efficient?

  Openfiler is Linux or FreeBSD. I still have to examine in detail, but in both cases, they are both complete BONES. Openfiler is much easier to use, however, and will be iSCSI or NFS. If it were me, and I didn't know anything about Linux, I'd use Openfiler.

  VMs allows access to the storage indirectly however ESX.

  Great, so he can participate in your existing IP storage network.  Configure web access (management) to Openfiler being on the same network as for existing SAN management application. Then have your data on the IP storage network.

• General question about adding storage Readynas 204

  I have Readynas204 on x-raid with three discs of 3 TB sends me some 5.45 TB of storage. Yesterday I added another 3 TB and readynas recognized without any problems but the storage size has not changed. I installed the new drive straight out of the box and I don't think that it should reformat because the drive status is green and the 'Format' button is grayed. The State is green, but that is to say the reconstruction of the volume. My question is I am suppsed to see the storage of 8,38 to size once the volume rebuild process is finished? or I suppsed to see increased storage size rightaway after adding the 4th disc? Thought I should ask this here first before submitting a ticket. Thank you

  You should see the larger size when the rebuild is complete.

  Now it's the same construction that I use for my use, I have a comment in the above exception block where I need to print the line number where the exception is produced, now since I'm on so that any other article, my procedure is always succeed even if an exception occurs, but using this technique I am not able to quickly debug my code but print line number would help me a lot Please help me with this as its rescue me great distress.

  Try something like:

  (Hoping that this is a simplified example and you are not actually using dbms_output as an exception handler...)

  AFAIK that should be given the right address if you save your standard warranty. I guess that you will receive an email from Toshiba with good security agreement number. It takes a few times. But if you want, you can ask Toshiba authorized service provider for this number.

• A question about conservation of a number

  Is there a way where if I have a number in an image (for example) and I go to the next section... If I go back to the original frame to keep this number?

  Frame 1 I have a score and it maintains.

  In the first picture, you can use a conditional to check if the variable exists.  If this isn't the case, declare it and assign the starting value.

• Question about the BOROUGH a number to the nearest quarter

  Please forgive me if I am not posting this at the appropriate place, but I do not know what area he could enter (script, Javascript, Designer...) and the Acrobat Scripting forum seemed as good one place as any.

  I have the field that allows a user to enter a number with 2 decimal places 2-digit. (i.e. 12.30 or 9.78 until 24.00.) This field corresponds to the hours in a day). What I would like is to "round" the quarter of an hour. As an example, if a person enters:

  22.15 - the field would round up to 22.25

  9.78 - the field would round down to 9.75

  12.10 - the field would round down to 12:00

  .15 - would round up a.25

  .96 - would turn to 1.00

  .01 a.24 - would round up a.25

  Essentially, any number that they take place in this field (until 24:00) would be around in an appropriate manner.

  I looked at the ROUNDING FormCalc function and DATE / hour, but it doesn't look like one of those that would allow me to do what I have to do. I guess, that it should be in JavaScript, but yet again, I'm not sure.

  If someone can point me in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated, and if all goes well, I explained to him what I want to do it properly.

• Question about converting objects in number

  This may sound a little silly, but I have a function that converts an object into a number and then checks if it is NaN to make sure that it is indeed a number, it returns true if it is a valid number, or false if it is not a number
  
  Now I have a TextInput and when I type for example 'HELLO' and call the function will return false (since it is not a number), if I type 23 it returns true (it is a number), if I hit 20 'a', it returns false. Everything works well except for a combination, if I type any number and the letter 'e', for example, 2nd, 9th, 5th, etc., it returns true, which means that it is a valid why number, is it?

• HP Presario CQ60-211DX: Question about adding ram

  My moms HD took a dump and I'll replace it and update the ram.  After defining and entry model information site, she came back with a couple different options.  He says that I can use PC2-5300 or PC2-6400.  The PC processor is a Celeron 585 2.6 single core with a 667 Mhz FB.  As I understand it, requires PC2-5300 667 Mhz FSB of the processor?  (This is what I guess I)  PC2-6400 runs at 800 Mhz FSB?  I just think?  And what advantage would I using the PC2-6400 on the 5300 with my current set in place?  He said that the two are compatible and they are at the same price.  Help, please.

  Your a chipset GL40, which culminates in the DDR2-667. Also known under the name of PC2-5300 (same thing). So you can install DDR2-800, but it will run at the same speed that is 667 mhz DDR2-667. If they are both the same price get the DDR2-667. DDR2-800 is generally a bit more available and a little less money, believe it or not, but apparently not where you found it.

  Yes, it is possible.

  Yes, it is the purpose of REMAP_SCHEMA. Import metadata and data from one schema to another.

  It's always better when you have total control of what you're doing. I prefer to put all the tables, of course it not easy, but you can use sql statements to generate the TABLES all = parameters you need like the following:

  SELECT 'TABLES='||table_name
  FROM all_tables
  WHERE owner = ''
    and table_name like 'RECORDS_%'
  ;
  

  In case of import, you need not specify that you must import because the entire dump contains the tables that you imported exported tables, but it is very advisable that you specify the tables.

  So if the tables in the target schema must be created with names different than the original, you must use the parameter REMAP_TABLE =.:

• Question about adding additional disks with voting rights (AIX cluster)

  I maintain a database cluster Oracle 10 g RAC running on AIX servers and I would like to add another disk to vote. I intend to use the following, executed command as root: crsctl add css votedisk device_pathname.
  
  This command can be performed while the database and cluster services are active, or do I have to stop both before changing the configuration of the cluster?
