Questions about reinstalling Windows XP after the end of Support
Several members of the family of my friends that I sometimes provide technical assistance for are still under XP SP3 on their systems. These systems are too outdated and underpowered to upgrade to a newer version of Windows, and it will probably be some time until they are able to upgrade to a more recent hardware capable of running most modern versions of Windows.
If in the meantime, something happens to one of their computers requiring a reinstall of Windows after support for XP purposes, but before they can get a newer computer, I have a few questions about what will happen:
- Is there still a way to activate their existing copies of XP during installation process?
- While I understand that new patches, updates, patches & will be is no longer provided, existing patches will be available through the Microsoft Update service so that I would be able to get those computers to update state that they would be about to XP supported ends, or do I have to search elsewhere to try & find these updates? (It would be nice if Microsoft put up a cumulative update that would be sort of a mega-patch for people in this situation to be able to get back to the most current state systems, but I would not be surprised if there wasn't such a thing).
Anyone know the answers to these questions?
Thank you
You should be able to clean install and activate Windows XP. You should be able to upgrade as well, even if the wise move would be to get the updates stored on portable media or integrated into a multimedia installation (or both) as soon as POSSIBLE if the plan is to continue using Windows XP for a while.
My suggestion is to set up and to buy Windows 7 Professional renovated systems / lease from places like TigerDirect.com - as pricing is generally about the same as just a license for Windows 7 or a little professional, the hardware specifications of these machines are likely machines Windows XP current in use, using something like the PC Mover take care of Laplink and Microsoft to move files (or for the more than 25 USD the) applications that can be moved as well) to the new system of the former is possible, and Windows 7 will get updated until 2020.
Recently research I've seen systems to Windows 7 Professional for as little as 150 USD with 4 GB of memory and dual core processors. Not bad.

A few questions about installing Windows on a Mac
Hello world.
I'm considering installing Windows on my 2006 iMac. I have a few questions I was hoping you might be able to help me with that. I know that this machine will run Windows 7 or 8, in terms of system resources, but probably doesn't have the RAM for 10.
The girl has reached Apple Obsolescence and no longer can be upgraded to newer versions of Mac OS. Unfortunately, this also means that she can not get the latest version of iTunes and don't talk to my phone. But she still my entire library of music.
I know that used at least iTunes is available on Windows, but I seem to remember that they took it. Y at - it an option to put my iTunes music on an iPhone 6 in a Windows environment? I don't mind if I need to convert files or otherwise work for her. I have just a few old out-of-print stuff that I really miss being able to listen to anywhere other than my office.
I'm pretty much stuck with versions before 10, due to the RAM thing. Honestly, I haven't used Windows since around 1998, with the exception of a terminal XP at work, so I don't know much about it. Any recommendation on which version is the best? And I can buy a copy online directly from Microsoft?
If I would be better off buying a new laptop for very cheap, it is also a possibility. But my Mac still works well, despite not being not supported for updates, and I hate wasting perfectly good material. I just don't have the money for another Mac right now.
Hello
Any questions on iTunes, the best place to ask the community Apple iTunes is their program, not Microsoft.

Question about installing windows on a Macbook Air
Hello!
I was just wondering if I would be able to use the student updated Windows Upgrade Pro 8 (the http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msapac/en_GB/pdp/Windows-8-Pro-Upgrade---Student-Offer/productID.282175100) to install Windows 8 on my Macbook with BootCamp. Or Windows products 8 student updated only applies for machines with existing versions of Windows installed?
Thank you!
Hi Tatiana,
If you are still looking for more details here is what, in my view, could help you.
As Shenan Stanley says, if you do not have a qualifying previous OS such as Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7, you can not use the Windows 8 Pro Upgrade. Also, here is a link that talks about

Question about reinstalling Windows after virus/malware crashed the system
OK, I'm not exactly super tech savvy but I can manage. Here's my dilemma. I clicked a bad link in a Yahoo search and started getting all sorts of flashing messages that my laptop has been infected. The next thing I know... Windows (I have Vista) crashed and does not now.
Question #1 - so... can I spend $85 and make it my buddy to the computer to reinstall Vista... or can I invest in upgrading to Windows 7?
Question #2-si I do it myself, can I just go ahead an installation of Windows 7 since I have no operating system on it because Vista won't load?
I'd appreciate any help I can get with that. I really think that whatever it is, I would be smart to buy Windows so I have to drive since it is not come with the laptop or my all-in-one.
Thank you!!!
Hello
If necessary, you can record all necessary data (files) by putting the hard drive as 2nd in another computer
or in an external box and copy of the data on the removable memory (CD, DVD, USB key or)
others). The physical disks in Vista can be purchased cheaply system machine since you already own windows.
Ask them about Windows 7 as they could also make a case here. Normally, it would be more advantageous for you
to buy the disks of Vista and then upgrade to Windows 7 (unless the system manufacturer has a special offer).
Before upgrade you to Windows 7 make sure that the system and the software will run you on it.To run the Upgrade Advisor you will need Vista work. Check with your system manufacturer support
and/or support of any specific manufacturer of the device to make sure the drivers are available for your system.Windows 7 Upgrade Advisorhttp://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/get/upgrade-advisor.aspx
Also check the Compatibility Center
http://www.Microsoft.com/Windows/compatibility/Windows-7/en-us/default.aspxI hope this helps.

OK, until recently, the hard drive of my laptop couldn't, and I had to replace, no biggie, I really care about this laptop in any case. Then I threw ubuntu top and let it go from there. But recently, I wonder, if I could get windows again for her, for free. I am sure that it is not under warranty, but I could go and check of 90 percent. I have no back ups for it because it was cheap.
Additional information:

Yes, if the hard drive has been installed you can just catch a Windows ISO-8 8.1 is not available now and make an own Install. Then, if you have the sticker of the product key on the back of your laptop use the product key to activate. Devices with Windows 8 generally have incorporated in their BIOS product key and use the following tool to get the product key:
Download the key tool produces OEM of Windows
Then, you can use the key to activate. In the meantime, here is the link to download windows ISO 8.1 and generate the installation media

Later you can improve Windows 10 too if you wish.

Portege P7220: Question about C:\windows\system32\drivers\symevent
I have a Portege P7220, bought in 2001 with Win2000. I tried to switch to XP, using the PCMCIA CD player I bought at Toshiba with the computer.
1. in the first steps of the installation, he told me that I didn't have a CD player, with some info on "SCSI" which I did not understand, and he interrupted the installation of XP.
2. I then restarted Windows 2000 and got a dialog box with the title 'NAV Autoprotect' and the message 'unable to launch C:\windows\system32\drivers\symevent. If I close the dialog box, the system apparently works.
Should I worry about warning dialog box? A way round the problem that I encountered when trying to install XP? Would appreciate advice.
David
Well, I found that "C:\windows\system32\drivers\symevent" belongs to an old installation of Norton Antivirus, which I got rid of. But I have not found a solution to the problem of installing XP without recognizing the external CD drive.

If you need to reinstall all programs after reinstallation of Windows.> If I use the restore CD, all partitions will be deleted or only C:?
If you use the recovery disk will be formatted the whole HARD drive then back up your data first.
After reinstalling Windows, you save your data on the HARD disk again. -
Question about the Windows operating system upgrade
If I were to upgrade to Windows Vista, when it is released in the future the warranty on my laptop is cancelled? And Toshiba install it for me at a lower price? (I know stupid Question but I was wondering)
Hello
First of all at the moment the Windows vista is not official on the market. AFAIK this lead on Windows Vista operating system will come at the end of the year or next year. Second, this unit was delivered with another Windows operating system. The Toshiba service partner can install your device only with the delivered operating system.

As a general rule, it is best to use the app or program uninstall, or use the Add/Remove Windown utility?
Good question. I usually turn to the programs built in uninstaller and cleanup utility if it is available as my first choice and if is not knitting, then next choice is add it / remove utility and depending on how stubborn the remaining files are, I turn to Revo Uninstaller for his ability to find and remove the remaining files and registry entries.

Question about upgrading windows and replacement of hard disk
I originally had windows 7 premium 64 bit and later upgraded using a product key anytime upgrade to windows 7 Professional. I still have the two product keys for the premium and professional.
I want to replace my hard drive and upgrade to windows 10.
What I asked:
I have upgraded to windows 10 first and somehow make a boot disk, replace my hard drive, and then use the disk on the new hard disk?
Can I get a disk to boot windows professional 7 some hand and use it on the new hard drive and then use the tool of a free upgrade?
Any suggestion would be great. Thank you
You must first reinstall Windows 7 Home Premium, reactivate and then rerun the upgrade to Windows 7 Professional can make sure that it is turned on.
After which, you can download and install the free update for Windows 10.
Another option you have is to create an image of your current installation of Windows 7 Professional system and restore it on the new hard drive.

After the restoration of the image and adjust the layout of the partition, make sure that Windows is activated, then check Windows Update for the upgrade of Windows 10 or download manually:

- Disable the general USB peripherals (for example - smart card reader).
- If you are using a SCSI drive, make sure you have the drivers available for your storage on a thumdrive device and it is connected. During the installation of Windows 10, click on the advanced custom Option and use the command load driver to load the driver for the SCSI drive. If this does not work and the installer still fails, consider switching to an IDE based hard drive.
- Perform a clean boot, restart, and then try again.
- If you upgrade to the. ISO file, disconnect from the Internet during the installation, if you are connected in LAN (Ethernet) or wireless, disable both, then try to install.
- If you are updated through Windows Update, when download reaches 100% disconnect from the LAN (Ethernet) Internet or Wi - Fi, then proceed with the installation.

Question about activating windows and media used for installation
Intel Visual BIOS 2 my computer on board DZ87KLT - 75 K (Firmware updated) can not detect the optical drive as boot EFI device. So I made a bootable USB flash drive to my system OEM Windows 7 Pro x 64 DVD manufacturer who (USB flash drive) my system detect successfully as efi boot device. My question is if I do a windows 7 clean install with EFI enabled using the flash drive on the same computer that runs this window for the last 9 months, there will be an activation problem to not use the DVD?
The problem is that your key is already used. He'll have to re - install Windows by using the same key (as long as it's the same motherboard and not a replacement) phone activation.
