R420 chassis due heating controller raid card

Hello

We bought 6 Indian dell servers.

We are facing a problem of severe heat on top of the chassis above the card raid with all these 6 servers.

the server configuration

R420 - hexcore single processor 2.2 ghz, 32 GB ram

Readers 4 x 600 GB 15000 rpm
(configured as 2 drives in raid 1 + 2 drives in raid 1)

These servers are placed in a data center - the temperature is around 18 degrees C

We are facing a severe heating up on problem of the chasiss just above the raid controller

When the servers are placed one above the other as they are usually placed in a datacenter of the servers heat up between 50, 4-57 degrees celcius

Support Dell changed the motherboard, raid card, power supply etc. of one of the above servers which is off-production (heating to 50.4 degrees Celsius), but the problem is not resolved

Thorough review of the raid controller card, I noted that the fins of the radiator on top of map of raid controller - instead of being parallel to the open air is actually perpendicular to the flow of air and is actually trap heat

the same card in a r.620 server has the fins of the heatsink in parallel to the air flow which remains cool

has someone else in this forum has noted this and are facing such a heating problem?

could you please check this and let me know the resolution of this problem

the heatsink orientation of 90 degrees so that the fins of the radiator are parallel in the open air?

Thanks for your help

the dset report displays normal temperatures since it measures the temperature at the entrance (26-28 degrees C) and the temperature of the cpu (57-62 ° c).

The server works as expected. There is nothing to fix. This has been reported before, and we investigated it. Our generation servers 12 had a massive overhaul with thermal and acoustic design. For this reason, the chassis can become hot to the touch at the back of the system, but it poses no risk to the system components.

You can change the default fan control to increase the airflow and reduce the temperature of the exhaust gases, but this will increase the use of sound and electricity. Go to the iDRAC - iDRAC settings > thermal. Change the user Option to compensate for fan speed and set the offset of the fan speed to compensate for high fan speed.

Thank you

Guys, good evening to all the same time.

I get out of this crazy short, I ask humbly help.

    I explain my problem:

I have a Mac Pro (early 2008), with RAID CARD MEDIA

He does not then I "gave" to my mother who must use windows for work.

I'm out all 4 disks in RAID installed and mounted 2 - SSD OCZ Agility 256 GB.

one of them is installed OSX Yosemite. on the other hand, I want to install WINDOWS.

    and here the problems begin:

When I insert the win8.1 to proceed installation standard dvd (EFI not talked since the beginning of 2008), I get, when I have to decide on which disk to install and format windows, does not reveal the installed drives

After 2 days of tweaking, I was able to understand that this is a problem due to the RAID card installed, I also read that you just remove it and connect the SSD in one of the two doors empty ODDsata (and not in the 4 planned the raid card slots)

but still does not see the attached HDD / SSD, so keep trying and I think it's a driver problem and I need to install the AHCI driver, now, I'm pretty Nerd, but I still can't get.

Regarding issue 1: it could be this new firmware is already installed.

Look at page 3 of the release notes (http://www.cisco.com/c/dam/en/us/td/docs/security/content_security/RAID _...)

After running the update of the firmware, the firmware upgrade package appears in the list of available upgrades even after a successful installation. The presence of this package does not indicate a failure of the upgrade.

To verify that the upgrade is running correctly, you can run the upgrade script again after the machine has restarted. If the upgrade was successful, the upgrade script indicates that the device does not require the upgrade

Regarding your second question: the software upgrade:
-you have an internet connection for update servers (the upstream proxy settings check maybe..)
-What is your version of the software running (did you check upgrade)? Maybe you should first upgrade to 753 or some other version...
-Maybe the reboot will solve the problem?

  • Looking for the number of right-hand side of a built-in raid card of R415 H700

    Hello

I have a server with a RAID card integrated S300 R415 and I'm looking for:

Dell PERC H700 integrated RAID controller

to install in the integrated RAID controller connector. I don't want to use the PCI-E slot card just above a RAID card because I need for Ethernet. I like the 1 GB if possible but I think they devised only integrated map of H700 with 512 MB.

When I search RAID controller internal Dell PERC H700, I get a lot of results, but could not get an exact match for a server R415. I'm afraid that if I get homesick, she is not right. Please let know us on the H700 onboard correct for a R415.

Unfortunately, the only card that can go in the built-in storage location is a modular 6ir SAS or a modular S300, which you already have. The SAS 6IR has no cache and only supports raid levels 0 and 1 (no raid 5). To go with a H700, you must remove the current Ethernet card, you have to slot 1.

  • Promise FastTrak Tx4660 - Raid card

    Hi all

I try to install esxi 4.1 with a Raid, FastTrak TX4660 card.  I understand that it is not listed under vmware hcl or hcl whitebox.

I hope to customize Setup and to include the driver for this raid card.  But I'm not a linux guy and I know it's going to difficult for me but I hope to make it.

Can someone please guide me on how I can include the driver for Tx4660 in esxi or how I can use this raid with esxi card using a different way to install esxi...

    Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to communities

I do not think it is a hardware based RAID controller and depends on the software to provide RAID calculations. It would be not supported in ESXi even if you did not have a pilot. If you need RAID then see if you can find a Dell Perc 5 card online. The card is pretty cheap and is supported with ESXi.

  • Suggestions for a RAID card

    Header 1

Currently I have an Adaptec RAID 3405 card, it is about five years old and about two of every three boot-ups, he negotiated one of the disks at half speed, i.e. 1.5Gps. To mitigate the problem, I've done as a "hot spare" HD Having replaced the cable without result maybe it's time to get a new card.

I want to do is get a RAID card allowing five internal hard drives (2 TB) and for future expansion also a SAS /... external connector.

Currently, there are three sets of external drive connected via eSATA and Sil3132 SATALink Controller. Latter is configured through external enclosures in RAID 5 and RAID0 respectively, so there is a single HD via the eSATA port.

The system is of recent construction with an i7 950 and 24 GB of RAM. "' 'C' (System) drive is Raptor 10 K rpm WD, the" D "drive is a 1.5 to 7200 RPM, the 'G' disc is consists of four HDs Seagate 2 TB 7200 RPM drive 'I' is a Kingston SSD 128 GB which is used for caching. More combinations of external drive mentioned above.

In addition to change/upgrade the RAID card, I would get a late model SSD to replace my existing 'C' drive and use it to replace the existing "D".

    Looking forward to your suggestions.

    See you soon,.

    Michael

    HI Mike,.

We recommend to not to fill readers beyond 65%, depending on the performance degrades quickly at this point (beside SSD)

I don't know that prejudice will agree.

    Intel Raid RS2BL080

And then there is this one which is newer RS25DB080, but now you get up in the price of the Areca.

Best software of management of each of them.

Atto is the only other that we love.

    Nothing wrong with Areca.

In all honesty I haven't used a LSI in 2 years and more. At one point they were my fav as comparable to those of other performance

Even cheaper. We had some problems with them some time ago and stopped using their... also support was easy to get ahold of and well informed.

Really, I don't know what the problem was with them...

  • Is this a decent RAID card?

I have three disks, a 10000 for OS and two 7200 for everything else. I wanted to have the two for everything else in RAID 0 mode and don't plan on adding any drives for a while. This card would be OK:

    http://www.Newegg.com/product/product.aspx?item=N82E16816124037 ?

Waste of money. There is no controller raid well below $400. Use the controller to the mobo or Windows software.

  • Controller RAID Pavilion sees reinstall my biggest records according to the OS, but Windows does not.

I removed the two 500 GB drives orginal my Pavilion CTO (set at the factory in a RAID 0 configuration) and replace them with two WD Velociraptor 1 TB drives.  I started from my set of recovery operating system (3 DVD) discs and restored the system.  The restoration wrote to one of the disks.  After completing all the starting tips for first time Windows, I ran the utility Intel Rapid Storage Technology (RST) and rebuilt the RAID 0 volume, taking the option to keep the data residing on the first hard drive.  The accumulation of volume took several hours.

The bishoprics of controller RAID Intel than drives are drives of 1 TB, and it built a 2 TB RAID 0 volume.  However, even after restarting a few times, total area of 1 to 7 see only Windows on the C: and D: (original image) logical drives, rather than the actual volume of RAID 2 to.

How can I get Windows to recognize the larger volume?  Is it possible, or is the 1 TB capacity 'wired' somewhere in my system?

Note that throughout this process, I left "Mode SATA controller" = "RAID" in the BIOS.  In view of the fastest 10 K rpm Velociraptor readers, I am flexible concerning the RAID 0 configuration; two independent readers would be OK, if Windows would recognize their actual size.  So I did a little experiment: I started in the BIOS, change 'Mode SATA controller' = 'IDE', registered and you leave.  The system starts only a car config, so I started another set of my operating system recovery disc restore.  He rewrote the operating system to one or two hard drives (who knows), but then the system would not start, probably because the disks are connected to a hardware controller RAID Intel physical and will therefore work mode controller BIOS to "RAID".  I recycled power, entered the BIOS and changed the mode of controller to "RAID".  As suspects, the system unbootable, so I now have to reinstall the OS with the controller in RAID mode, but before that, I want to determine if there is a way to get Windows to recognize the size of 2 TB.

Thanks for the advice; always nice to know some utilities, we didn't ever existed.

As you suggested, I run Diskpart and cleaned the second disc (instant).

Then I went to control panel > administrative tools > computer management > storage > disk management.

I clicked in the unallocated disk area second on the graphic display and went through the dialogue to create a new volume and assign a drive letter.  Pretty painless.

Then, an "Autoplay" window open on the desktop, and there was my second 1 TB drive.

    It's a wonderful world.

Now, I just have to remove all the bloatware, apply the updates Windows and HP of 3.5 years, reinstall and reconfigure all my apps, reload my data, make some adjustments and call it a day.

    Thanks again.

  • 2008 mac Pro Apple Raid card problems, help!

Hello, I have a mac pro 2008 with a raid set up. I want to get rid of all old raid together upwards and instead put a new ssd in the first Bay. The computer cannot read it because I think that it is always configured as a raid. Does anyone know how to make the available drive bays to new readers? You're help would be highly appreciated. I want to take the Apple Raid card so I can have an additional PCI port and I also want to get out the discs four raid. Just so I can put in a single ssd! Thank you very much.

When you remove the Apple RAID card, readers who were searched will be unreadable. You need to make backups before time, because there is no way known to them read differently.

There is a data cable, called the iPass cable connected to the motherboard to the RAID card. You must remove this cable when you remove the RAID card and reconnect the plug corresponding on the motherboard. Once you do this, you get four bays returned as SATA bays and can install any drives that you like. The problem with a lot of SSDS is that they are 2.5-inch form factor drives and may not fit on a standard sled. Users have used an IcyDock (in the 2008 version and earlier versions) or the newer technology adaptadrive:

    http://eShop.MacSales.com/item/NewerTech/ADPTADRV/

... to get the alignment and attached straightened.

  • Single controller RAID, LUNs, virtual disk groups question does?

    Hi VMware Experts.

I have 5 servers (each at full load with local SSDS 8 x 1 TB).

    I'm curious:

    1. If I configure raid 5 (I'll have 6 TB per host), how many LUNS / data warehouses should create? Is it important here? In any case, we still have controller raid just unique, right?
    2. If I use VSANS, is there a difference in the answer above? A data store for each host is probably correct? Or because the VSAN configuration: raid0 /passthrough better to create several data warehouses/LUN?
    3. Insights into the performance here?

    Thank you!

    1. Yes, it is ok, because you have no other choice.

    2. you can't do several stores data vsan. A single vsan by cluster data store is possible.

No matter how many ssd\hdd for each host that you have.

  • How to install the driver for a Raid card.

I hope that this question is of you and yours.

    I have:

ESXi 4.1 operational on a Dell 1950. He has a basic raid card that works. This is the functioning and VM are stored.

I installed a 1212 4 Areca Raid port cards. I have attached two Intel SSD's in raid 1.

My Bios sees both the original and the 1212 raid cards and disks.

Areca at startup utility says that everything is swell.

ESXi is unable to see the 1212. I went to the Areca website and downloaded the driver for ESXi 4.X.

I followed the instructions for all upward using the CLI interface. He begins to apply the patch, but then I thought that a meta.zip file is missing and things are abandoned.

I went to the site of vmWare and downloaded their solution. Once again using the interface CLI things start to download but then I thought that there was no update occurred or the boot. Nothing to do.

Here is the link to the drivers of the Areca. The installation instructions are great, but for the meta.zip file.

    FTP://FTP.areca.com.tw/RaidCards/AP_Drivers/VMware/ESXi_4/

    Any ideas? Thanks for help.

    John Ullom

I had a similar problem with the Areca 1222 (version 8 ports of yours).

I was able to fix by changing the zip file of Areca. In the folder while offline connection-bundle, you will find some arcmsr ARC - 1.20.00.15.vmk.100202 - offline_bundle - 262812.zip. Inside that zip you will find metadata.zip. Inside of this zip, look for vmware.xml. Modify the file as follows:

    Find the following text:

You should now be able to install the CLI.

  • Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD7 video card + raid card?

I've been looking over some of the new motherboards socket 1155 and found that this Gigabyte card allows more lanes (2 x 16 pci 2.0). Not this Committee would make a video card and a raid card?

    http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3646#SP

Incorrect answer. Read it carefully, the PCI-e slots share bandwidth, so it's 8 x and x 8 or x 16 4 x more, etc. There are only 20 channels available for both locations. For the video you want x 16, so everything what he leaves is 4 x.

  • Model of card mother T7500 and configuration of the controller RAID LSI 1068e

Hi, I just bought a T7500 workstation I would get around mid-December. Because of current prices for HARD drive storage, I decided to go with the 500 GB basic disk up to HEALING of Thailand. Thus, I am limited to basic integrated RAID controller. Because I am not familiar with the RAID configuration, etc. I wanted to read more before I dive in. The starting point would definitely find what was right for the Precision T7500 motherboard. Surprise! I can't find information anywhere. Even Dell people (3 different sales and support representatives) have not managed to tell me it's the Intel 5520 chipset (it looks that they believe that it is the motherboard model...). Well, I'm stuck. I would appreciate if someone could provide me with the model of motherboard and Special Edition, all information on the capabilities of the controller integrated RAID (LSI 1068e) would help me determine what drives should I plan to buy. In addition, one thing that is not clear to me what I inferred from the configuration on the website Wizard is the issue around disks > 2 TB. Of after I read it, I was not able to determine whether the problem was related to the simple readers > 2 TB or if it was related to the management of a storage space > 2 TB (which could be composed of several readers less than 2 TB). What I have in mind (remember that I do not have the machine right now) is to 4 X 1 TB drives in a RAID 0 + 1 (which I'm not sure that the integrated controller supports) configuration that will result in the storage of 2 GB mirrored. The operating system is Win 7 64 bit. Thanks in advance for any info that will help me to prepare my setup (buy hard drives, if I can find cheap ones) and find information on the configuration of the RAID. MrBricole

I'm sure the T7500 uses an Intel Server Board (since this chipset is located on the Intel site under its motherboards, Dell is essentially correct, even if they didn't know why), but it doesn't matter in the context of your question, because the '' integrated '' RAID controller is not actually on the Board.  It's a card (called "integrated" only because it has a slot on this machine).  Because the functionality of the RAID controller is not on the Board of Directors, Board info will not help you.  Everything you need to know about your Council and the entire system, you can get the T7500 manual.  SAS 6/iR (LSI 1068e) RAID controller information can be found here:

NOTE from the ADMIN: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell >

The SAS 6/iR will not support more than 2 TB of drives, or it will support more than 2 TB of virtual disks.

It will also only supports RAID 0 OR RAID 1 OR both, but not together (not levels no RAID nested as RAID 10 or 0 + 1).

So with four 1 TB drives, you can easily do two RAID 1 (called integrated mirror in the controller BIOS CTRL-C)... or you can do two 2-drive RAID 0 (Stripe called integrated in the controller BIOS CTRL-C)... or you can run mode non-RAID, with four individual discs in the operating system.  With this controller, those are your only options with four 1 TB drives.

If you want / need more features RAID (nested RAID, 2 TB of the VFD above, on board levels, cache, etc.), you must upgrade to the PERC 6 / i.

Do not buy office records class... Make sure you get enterprise-class drives.  If you decide at some point to go with PERC, not only enterprise class disks will be fundamentally necessary, but certified records would be strongly recommended for stability and performance.
