R710 refuses to update bios

I have a r710 server that was originally sold by EMC as a storage avamar node but be re purposed to an esxi host.

I installed the server 2012R2 directly on the local disk and downloaded the iso system update utility. From there on, I was able to update everything except the BIOS of the system. I was able to update the perc, the bottom of basket, drac, etc.. When I try to Flash the bios, he asked to me to reboot and says "BIOS update attempt failed!

The system has 1.1.4 bios currently. I tried to go to the next step of 1.2.6 here. I then tried 1.3.6 direct Windows 6.3.0 & 6.4.0. I tried to initiate the system build utility of the drac, then moving to the iso standard SUU. I tried back bootable ISOs with all versions of bios. I wiped and reloaded the system with server 2008, and I tried to use the utilities to ufi at startup. The same error result.

I'm not sure how to proceed, and I've been troubleshooting for days. What Miss me?
Is there some sort of rider protection write somewhere that I'm not aware or something else?
I want to upgrade my processor e5504 and do not have the firmware to support my replacement.
EMC requires proprietary firmware? I didn't see any EMC brand other than a sticker on the chassis.

I think I what will work for you. Unfortunately the OEMR 6.4 won't be ready for some time. I already put in the query. For now, if 6.4 is what you need, it must be non-OEMR version.  Apply the package from the command prompt with the following switch:

/ForceType
You should be able to use that even happen in the future when pushing the OEMR back version on.

Hello, I have two questions on Portege 3410.

First: I can't update the BIOS (current usage, 1.50 there, I want to update to 1.60). Instruction does not work: I connect Teac USB into USB port, turn on the USB - FDD emulation to activate, portable switch with pressed F12, the message «Ready to update BIOS...» "appears, I touch in a hurry, but nothing happened. What's wrong?

The other: I can't install Windows XP on laptop (it does not start from USB disk or external USB DVD drive).
    How can I install Windows?

    Thank you.

    Hello

Just a question: why do you want to update the BIOS? Is this really necessary?
I ask this question because this update is always somewhat risky and you might damage it ROM module
In any case, have you tried to load the default settings in the BIOS before you start the update and install XP?

You can install XP without CD. Therefore, you must copy the folder i386 on the HARD drive from another computer and the boot to the HARD drive files, I think you need a little search with Google to find a workaround for this. You should find enough! ;)

  • Don't recharge Tecra S11-119 - updated BIOS question too!

  • Satellite P20 S203: update BIOS after version 1.70

Hello! I have a Satellite P20 - S203 BIOS is Ver1.70, published on 20/11/2003. I think there pretty outdated now, but there has been no new versions for years and I think that this great computer, despite the old, should be more supported. What I don't understand is why they made an exit for the PSP23E and not for the PSP20E, that make the differences that they should deserve to be updated bios different?

Does anyone of you know about BIOS versions after 1.70 which allow the laptop to boot from SD cards or removable media? And that the problems of the management of multiple USB devices?
    Thank you

    Hello

I use P20 over two years, without any update of the BIOS. If your device works well I recommend you to leave. Boot from the SD card is not possible and update the BIOS will not allow this.

What problem do you have with the USB devices?

  • HP Pavilion 500 series: updates Bios

HI I was wondering tonight in my hp support center was a significant update of the Bios I was wondering if I could please get some advice on the question of whether it is a good idea to Bios if there is nothing wrong with the Bios in the first place.  Why should I update the Bios or should I not update the Bios for my hp Desktop.

Thank you for your time and help

In general, I agree with redshore.  I'm used to be of the opinion that if everything worked as planned, then leave it alone.  Since I use a HP ENVY laptop with Windows 8.1 one year, I noticed that the HP helper has done several updates that I probably have on my own, especially updates BIOS.  I don't know why there would be many updates to BIOS, so have to asuume engineers tried to fix a problem that had been reported.  As redshore, you always stand the risk of bricking the unit with BIOS update is bad and if you read the forums here, there seems to be more those happening.

Some units now have a feature where a regime of BIOS recorvery is integrated, a good idea.  You might wise to explore your PC to see if the model you have this feature for a while where you might need.

  • Question about updating BIOS for my Satellite M40

So, my laptop does not start, but works recovery procedure. Support suggested me to update my Bios.
OK, given that the last time, it was easy.

    I downloaded the newsest version vor my Satellite M40 (PSM40) (1, 70 - WIN<= i="" have="" an="" ati="" grafics="" card)="" and="" extracted="" the="" bios-20070709161345.zip="">
    But there was a surprise:
Instead of getting the old data structure, as written in the FAQ update Bios
1 extract the zip file containing the BIOS upgrade to a temporary folder.
    2. in the folder temporary three subfolders will be generated. "docs", 'Update - 3.5' disc', 'Update - CD - R or CD - RW"

I get a file only: BIOS of Windows Knockhill10GV170.exe
Extraction of it I get 8 files:
    -fdbase.img
    -InsydeFlash.exe
    -iscflash.dll
    -iscflash.vxd
    -KPM170. ROM
    -Platform.ini
    -The c:\windows\system32\unicows.dll

Now my question: How can I create this bootable CD-ROM to update my Bios?

Just to know: download all the other things are done on my desktop from my laptop is not starting ;)
I also tried to run the exe in the hope that it will create a floppy disk or a CD-ROM, but it is written "basic cfg address not found."

    Hello

Update the BIOS there are two ways to do this:
-Traditional mode (TRAD) and in this case, you need floppy
-Windows (WIN) and this update can be done under operating system running.

Update BIOS WIN will work if you run Windows on your laptop satellite. If I understand your assignment well you are trying to do traditional BIOS updated, but using the BIOS to WIN update. On the Toshiba download page, there are two listed BIOS updates and two of them as versions of WIN. This means that you can update the BIOS under operating system only.

Back to your problem: in the history one thing confuses me when you write: my laptop does not start, but works recovery procedure. Sorry, but if the recovery procedure is working and you will have clean installed OS.

Be a little more concrete in our laptop does not start. What happen exactly when you press the power button / stop?

  • Satellite T135 - update BIOS 2.70 won't be finished

I have a Satellite T135 Win7 running with an original BIOS that I'm moving to 2.70. I ran all the other software updates in Service Station (2.1.51) with no problems. but the BIOS downloads 2.7, initiates and cautions that I'll need to reboot (I select Yes to execute) and receive notice of popup on the electrical problem (defective DC) which corrects this BIOS, then nothing. It just stops.

I disabled my firewall windows antivirus, but the update is still unable to fill. I downloaded the file directly from Toshiba (outside the Service Station) and run the file and exactly the same thing happens.
The event viewer shows all the related entries.

Anyone has an idea on how to get the updated BIOS up-to-date?

    Hi mwarwick,

Did you install any new version of package of added value of the Web from Toshiba site? This program is necessary if you want to update the BIOS to check if you have installed the latest version.

In addition I recommend you load the default settings in the BIOS before doing the update. Then, go into the BIOS, press F9 to load the default values, save & exit it.

Can update you the BIOS now?

  • Update BIOS Z830 satellite

Hi, everyone tried to upgrade the BIOS Z830.
After I rebooted, I get a message to insert an original disc of Windows, but Z830 has no optical drive and more I don't have a Windows disk, since that it is pre-installed?

I went back to the store and they plugged the USB optical drive with an OEM of Windows version and I entered my ultrabook, but a day later I got the same message to insert an original disc of Windows after a re-boot without me even trying to upgrade the BIOS, it seems that the upgrade of the BIOS did not the first time!

Why update BIOS asking for an original Windows disc? Any thoughts? Thaks!

    Hello

    Please try this:
    Switch on and press F2.
This should allow you to access the BIOS.
Press F9 BIOS this will outline the BIOS default settings. Press F10 to save the changes.
    Now start the machine.

If you will not be able to start Windows. Try this:
Turn on the computer and press F8.
Now you should see a menu of advanced boot.
Here choose fix my computer-> drive HARD recovery.

HARD drive recovery will start the recovery procedure, without the use of all disks.
This will help you define the laptop back to factory settings.

    Hope this can help you.

  • Update BIOS Satellite 1730

I want to update BIOS and who have already downloaded and the file dezipped. This file that I copied to a floppy disk. In the description they say I have to restart the computer and press a certain key (F12 or the left of the space bar). But it did not work. Does anyone know how to do this?

    Guenter.

    Hello

on this model you do not need to press F12 or another key. Just unzip the packege BIOS on a blank floppy disk, reboot the machine and make sure it boots from the floppy disk. The upgrade of the BIOS will be done automatically.
Make sure that you have the power adapter plugged!

  • Satellite Pro M30 - error message: the user is not authorized to update BIOS

    Hello

I bought a Satellite Pro M30 of second hand. This one has the Bios 1.30... I would like to install the bios v1.70.

I am running Windows XP Pro SP3 and tried first update in Windows.
I however got the message "the user is not allowed to update BIOS.

This message is quite surprising given that I have administrator privileges.

I read that you can use a floppy disk to update, but I did not...

So, is it possible to update the Bios with the CD?

    See you soon,.
    R.S.

    Hello

I checked the page European driver of Toshiba and found the version of BIOS 1.7 WIN in the field of ARCHIVES.

As you can see, it's a version of BIOS Windows and not a traditional version of the BIOS (trad BIOS can be updated using the diskette).
This BIOS win can be improved only from a running OS Win.

In any case, I see that you have installed SP3. It could have a bad influence on the update of the BIOS.
Then maybe you should try to update the BIOS without SP3 installed?

Remove SP3, download the good BIOS, unzip correctly and then try to run the BIOS update file.

_Ps: If you laptop then runs without problem a BIOS update is not necessary! _

  • Laptop HP 15-ac176na: update BIOS (Intel processors)

    Hello

I was download the updates from the HP support Assistant.  3 updated driver installed fine, but the update BIOS for Intel processors just to be on the road all day.  It seemed to download ok, the blue bar filled and he said that it was installing, but never finished because I had to stop going to bed.

How long does take to install?  HP laptop laptop 15-ac176na.

    Thank you

    Paul

    Hi Paul,.

There seems to be a listed version between your and the update offered - F.1E Rev.A (provides microcode update CPU)-the HP bios updates are almost always cumulative, but I saw a few times when it's bbe made in order, then it can be interesting to see if F.1E Rev.A Flash correctly - if this is the case, try to rerun F.1F Rev.A

F.1E Rev.A is on the following link

    http://ftp.HP.com/pub/SoftPaq/sp74001-74500/sp74374.exe

Once the download is complete, close other open windows and programs, then open your download folder and double-click the installer to start the process.  The real flash will occur when you restart the machine - do not interrupt it somehow, even if nothing seems to be happening for a while - when it is finished, the machine will load in Windows as usual.

    Kind regards

  • Tecra M2 - updated BIOS is not supported

Hello; I have a Tecra M2 I want to update BIOS.

I downloaded it from the Toshiba site, specified for this model. But when I unzip in my book, there is a message that says "Bios Update v. 3.2.8. This computer is not supported. But my laptop is a 32-bit computer, and there is nothing strange about this... What is going on?

I need a help. (It's only a simple update BIOS...)

    Thank you

    J.

    Hello

The Bios Update v. 3.2.8 error message. This computer is not supported"might appear because the DMI information that contains the name of the laptop and other details of s notebook is wrong.
In this case the DMI must be updated.

The other reason why you are not able to update the BIOS, it is this tool called common Modules is not installed on your laptop.
So install it and check if you can update the BIOS

Last but not least, the reason could be the preinstalled OS, I hope you are using Win XP in order to update the BIOS
