  I'm new on this server model so I apologize if this is a simplistic question. My COMPUTER service gave me 4 servers Dell PowerEdge R720 with no OS on them and no other information or documentation.   It's huge (+ 10 GB), then it may not be the best way. You can download and install the drivers one at a time. Start with the chipset driver, then install the drivers for the device with the yellow exclamation marks in Device Manager, have installed drivers 'generic' and all available drivers that are newer to the native Windows drivers - you will need probably the video drivers and the network may be drivers. You must also install OpenManage Server Administrator (Managed Node).

  As part of r.620 and R720 server sizing, I try to erase the various system logs, so that the provisioned client will get a clear slate. I'm trying to do that programmaticaly (via racadm).

  So:

  racadm clrsel - works fine.

  racadm clrraclog - complains that this command is deprecated with 12G. That's fair enough, but I can't for the life of me find the replacement, the method sanctioned to clear log CARS. How do I do that?

  racadm lclog - none AUTOMAGIC to clear. Now I understand that life cycle is intended to be for life, but here I am creating a new life cycle - there must be a way to clear the log of CA when I reactivate an old box?

  Hey Doron,

  The option SystemErase is not supported on systems of 12G.

  There is no option to remove the LC logs unless you run the LCWipe method on the iDRAC.

  This resets the iDRAC to the factory settings and delete all settings iDRAC, including network settings and you need to reconfigure the iDRAC locally. This can be done in F2 > iDRAC parameters.

  There are two ways to perform some LCwipe:

  (a) execute the LCWipe method using the winrm provided more earlier of windows OS.

  OR run the command wsmancli of linux OS below.

  (b) you can also do this in the life cycle of the controller by pressing F10 POST. You'll find a default Config clear and reset option under hardware Config. Then the controller across the life cycle. The system turn off to do this and you have to manually turn it on again.

• Dell PE R720 fully updated

  We  have  a new dell R720 I need to install xenserver 6.1 on it.
  
  However before that i need to fully update the firmware on the dell box 
  
  I searched online and found that there is a ISO that we can download to update the firmware

  What you need to do is to start on the BUU (Build and update utility), then when you get to main menu, insert the diskette SUU (Server Update Utility) and select the update of the firmware in the menu.

• 5.1 ESXi does not connect after installing - R720 Dell

  I installed ESXi 5.1 update 1 on a Dell R720 server. The installation was made using ISO provided custom in the Dell site.

  After installation I can't connect or ping to the machine.

  After SSH-ing to the host via the console I could see that the host can ping to its own IP address, but not of its front door.

  Is this a problem with the network Dell drivers?

  Information: There are 4 network cards. All are Gigabit Ethernet of Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM5720 cards.

  You should check the configuration of your network management. If the IP, subnet mask, gateway, DNS are correctly configured and if it it set to vmnic3, as it is the only NIC you connected.

  If everything is correct, I would check the physical switch of the server config is connected to. Maybe the port is blocked or a bad local VIRTUAL network is configured.

• Installation of CentOS on Dell R720 after you disable the RAID

  I have this R720 Server I want to install CentOS 6.3. It has two 256 GB partitions that have been previously configured as a RAID-1 volume. I removed it because we must not RAID and just need performance when it comes to disk read/write. However, the CentOS installer does not recognize two physical disks. But if I configure the RAID-0 drives the installation program recognizes the discs. I do for the installation program to recognize the physical disks? Thank you.

  What RAID controller do you use?  I assumes that you use the H710 PERC, which does NOT support non-RAID, so in order for everything to be presented to the operating system, you will first need to configure it in RAID.  If you don't want to use RAID (even as a RAID 0 drive), then you will need get another controller.  PERC H310 supports non-RAID (the other controller for the R720 options make too, but they won't work on Linux).

• Need help Cant Hard Drive when formatting Poweredge r720

  Hi guys,.

  I need help in formatting of our server I think I messed something configuration or delete.
  We have poweredge r720 server in the office and we want to reformat the drive to become the new server. Here's what I did:

  1. during startup, we go to lifecycle and configure raid 0 (we have 3 HDD)

  2. the system starts fine and the server installation of the operating system that we have. (but we cannot see the 3rd disc because we believe disk 2 = Raid 0 and we try to see the 3rd disc as a second partition but it is not shown, we just decided to recreate a raid 5 to see what is happening.

  3 create. us raid 5 through the lifecycle in the start menu. but we get errors and we have in stock here: the error is SWC0015.

  4. Please help... I tried to boot to the operating system before, but we can not sound already remove cause maybe I'm kidding not within the parameters of the life cycle I think.

• Reuse a RAID disk and hot spare procedure

  My questions are for a PE R720xd with the PERC RAID internal H710P controller.

  I have replaced several RAID drives in the past, but I never did this before, so I was hoping to confirm my procedure for hard drives hot swap. A drive failed on one of my live servers. In the past I would always bring back the server during a maintenance window and replace the drive by using the configuration utility to make sure everything went correctly. This particular server has become a system of very high availability, so I was hoping to use for hot spare option do without bring down the server.

  The other issue is that Dell is not in stock on the disk, I need so I intend to use a same car I replaced recently on a server off-production that has already been fixed in a RAID1 in another Dell R720 Server table. Any time, I have never replaced a RAID drive, I always used a new drive out-of-the-box, so I'm also not 100% on how to prepare the drive to use for a new RAID array.

  I thought I am brings the donor server down and come off the drive I want to enjoy this the RAID array server using the configuration utility. So a question is - is there anything else I need to do preparation used in car for use in the new table?

  With respect to hot-swapping which lead to the new array, is it really as simple as just popping one out and put a new in? Can I do to confirm it has taken - apart from just confirming that the lights blink like crazy during synchronization?

  You can switch the drive, but it will be not just to rebuild there is data on the hard drive. So when this disc is inserted, it will show foreign. You will need to do is to boot to the controller (Ctrl + R) and then CLEAR the foreign Configuration. Once completed, then you will be able to rebuild the disk on the virtual disk, you can do the BIOS of the controller, or from the OpenManage web interface (depending on the operating system).

  "Collection tool is not available" here means one application software/viz DSET is not available.
  When you have tested DSET by iDRAC, who was from the same server SupportAssist?

  Can you send me a screenshot of the programs and features installed on the server SupportAssist?

  Additionally, make sure that all the connectivity tests work in SupportAssist. Connectivity tests lie in the upper right of the UI SupportAssist under your name of user or administrator.

• Fibre channel host bus adapters should be removed if not in use?

  We have a Dell Poweredge R720 server that has a Qlogic host an orphan in her bus adapter. The lighting on the HBA flashes yellow, green and orange. I wonder if this orphan adapter could use the system resources and if it should be removed.

  Let me understand the situation.

  Mentioned that the MD1200 is connected to the R710 is detected to R710 Open Manage?

  RAID and SAS driver is installed on the server, server which is? R710 R720 or both?

  When you install the SAS HBA on R720, have you seen any prompt Ctrl-C in POST server? -Do you think that any device detected in the Windows Device Manager?

  Here are a few suggestions:

  (1) installed the card, start the server and make sure that the SAS HBA is detected in the R720

  (2) install the last handle Open, 7.2

  (3) stop the server and the MD

  (4) connect the SAS on the SAS HBA cables

  5) turn on the MD, wait some time, 1 minute.

  (6) turn on the server, make sure that SAS HBA is detected during POST

  (7) management control.

• iDRAC7 - activate SNMP for all alerts

  I try to activate SNMP interruptions for all available on a R720 Server alerts. There are 15 pages of alerts with checkboxes for each of them. I thought I had found a way to enable them, through racadm, but it seems that the cfgTraps group no longer exists on the iDRAC7.

  To enable all SNMP trap alerts

  Note: You will get error message saying "few parameters of alert have failed." It is normal that some events will not support SNMP
